Things started off a little rough due to some circumstances that were outside of Stefan's and his guys' control. But what should have been a stressful day ended on a really positive note. The guys got to my place a little after 6pm, and having started at 8am they were exhausted. But they had such a wonderful, chipper attitude and were very fast. At my new place I went in to take care of some paper work with the management company as the guys unloaded. In the building manager's office you could see everything being caught on the security cameras, therefore able to see the guys loading up the freight elevator. Several times the manager would stop mid sentence and comment on how fast these guys were. I will definitely use these guys again, and have been recommending them to my friends as well. read more

Communication from moment one was great. Stefan was very clear on where what and how. We called/emailed, he responded. We agreed on date, and off we went! We had three guys for our move (Dale, Sammy, and Demo (sp??)), and they were polite, hustled, treated my items with the utmost respect, and went that extra mile not to ding or break anything. They are at a great price point, don't cater to hipsters like some other companies I spoke to ... they just worked hard and carefully. It was smoking hot that day as well, and they just worked through it. Also, they couldn't have been more appreciative of the water/soda I made available to them. Stefan and his guys were friendly, fast, and took good care of all of our furniture. Stefan showed up and got right to work, even seeing to the little things I didn't think of (i.e. taking light bulbs out of lamps so they didn't break in transit). I have used other moving companies in Chicago for past moves, but these guys are now my go-to movers. I've already recommended him to a friend that will be moving in July. We used Koev's to move from a condo in the South Loop to one in Lakeshore East. We had contacted Stephan to confirm the estimated cost and any additional fees. We were quoted a reasonable rate and were told there were no extra truck fees. The day of the move, Stephan and his team showed up on time and were very professional. They completed the move within the window we were given for the building's elevator reservations. My concern is that they damaged a dresser, for which Stephan offered compensation, but then tacked on a "truck fee" which negated the compensation for the damaged dresser. This was dishonest practice and we would not recommend them. read more

This is long overdue from a late April move. We had contacted some larger moving companies for quotes and they were astronomical- just to move us about 5 miles to our new house. Stefan came out and had a very reasonable quote! We booked him. We had to have him load our things on a Thursday, store them overnight, and move us in on a Friday after our closing. Stefan and his team were so quick...but, responsible, too!! He was training his guys as he worked...often stopping to point out safer/easier ways to wrap, lift, or carry something. I heard him tell his guys, "If I see you without something in your hands you owe me a beer. If you catch me with my hands empty I'll owe you a beer!" No one slacked off! Super professional. Stefan was pleasant to talk to and so sweet to my kids. He heard my son liked Minions so he brought my son a box of Minion cereal the next day because his own son liked them! Great guy! These guys are AMAZING! I was in a panic mode because I only had 4 days to find movers to move me from my parents house in Park Ridge, to a one bedroom apartment in River Grove. I called numerous places and none could do it for the day I was moving such was a sunday, most were even closed on Sunday! My last call was here, and Stefan (the owner) answered quickly, and was able to talk to me while he was on his way to a job! He was able to fit me into his schedule with 4 days notice, and explained all costs to me and the extra charges, if needed. I kept apologizing for the short notice that I was in the hospital for a few days, and just had gotten out, and couldn't call earlier. He was very polite and was even concerned and hoped I was feeling better! They (Stefan and another guy) arrived right on time (even earlier than expected) and moved everything from the house in less than an hour! I couldn't believe how FAST and STRONG they are!!!! Stefan was more than willing to drive to another destination to pick up my furniture (sextional, bed frame and dresser) that I ordered in Bensenville at a warehouse with no extra crazy charges that most companys would do!! It was about 3 hours for my move and came to about $300 which is a steal! He helped set up my couch and even came the next day to help my dad pick up the dresser ( IN HIS OWN PERSONAL CAR!) from Bensenville that they screwed up my order on sunday! He helped my dad set up my bed frame that day too! I can't say enough about Stefan! He is incredible! He only charged us $75 for that next day, which is UNBELIEVABLE! We gave $100 just because of how great he is! We even offered to pay his gas, and he wouldn't let us! The next week after i moved, I texted Stefan and asked if he sets up furniture, and if so; could he help me with 3 big things (still in boxes) he said ofcourse he can help, and I'm just waiting on his availability! Hired them from a recommendation from a friend and they made everything smooth and easy. This was my first time hiring professionals and I will never move myself again. Was moving a 1 bedroom just a few miles, and two guys were in and out in under 4 hrs (would have been shorter but took some time to reassemble the bed, which they didn't charge me extra for). They were also mindful of tracking in snow/salt into my new place (which no one was expecting for an April move) and moved a ton of random small stuff without question. I agree with all of the other Yelpers in here that Stephan is extremely friendly over the phone. However, there are three things I want out of a moving service .1) Don't break stuff 2) do the job fast and 3) be on time. Nothing really got broken, a couple of plates here and there, the move speed was average (4 hours for a large studio/1 bed in an elevator to elevator move) but, the problem was that the two man crew arrived 2 hours late. That is just bad customer service. At the end of the move, Stephan offered to waive the charges for travel (it was five blocks), shrink wrap (not sure how this becomes $30 anyway) and insurance, at a push. Stephan said that it was not their fault and I believe them, but even if it wasn't, they could have done a better job letting me know in advance that it would be so late and then compensating for the delays at the end. I recently moved my large one bedroom apt across town. I had moved here 1 1/2 years ago from another state with a 14 foot U-Haul. I'm beyond heavy lifting so my son and a friend moved me into my 2nd floor apt then. I couldn't get them again, so I filled out the online forms for two of the big moving companies listed here - detailed furniture list, good estimate of boxes, etc. They both came in very high - four guys, six to eight hours, big truck and around $1000. Huh? I have a fair amount of furniture but nothing that can't be easily carried by two guys. I saw Koev on here and sent him an e-mail. We had a couple phone calls to set things up. And two guys moved me with a 14 foot U-Haul and it took just 3 1/2 hours. That was from one 2nd floor apt to another 2nd floor apt, so there was a lot of climbing stairs. And these guys worked hard and fast. Total cost was around $370, not counting the well-deserved tips I added on. These guys were friendly, careful, and a real pleasure to work with. I hope it will be a while before I move again, but Koev will get my call when the time comes. And I recommend them to anyone. I couldn't rate them higher. read more

Stefan and his crew had to roll with us through a move from hell in 2012. We had a lease that started on July 1, and initially planned to move on that date. It turned out, however, that the owners from whom we were renting were hoarders. We had to change moving times with Stefan TWICE at the last minute. Even on the third and final date of the move, the owners had only removed their possessions from two rooms of a ten-room apartment, so Stefan and his guys had to work around an apartment full of their junk to move our stuff in. They busted hump to get it done, got all of our stuff moved in with no delays, and displayed a great attitude even though we were put in a position of unwillingly jerking them around on this job. You won't be surprised to learn that the place we moved to in 2012 didn't work out for us, so we're moving again on June 1. Guess who I just called to do the work again? You got it! This is the worst moving company I ever dealt with. They broke my bevelled table top glass and they promised to replace it. They took my table and the broken glass to a glass shop. They said it will take a week. Two weeks later we followed up with Stefan and he said that the guy who broke my glass no longer works for him. So I called Stefan's crew who broke my glass who said, Stefan deducted $100 from him to pay for the glass. We tried calling Stefan again and left several messages. He never returned our calls. We decided to pay for the glass so we could get our table from the shop. We contracted with Koev's moving and we expect Koev's moving not to point at its crews when problems happen. He also promised that he would have enough pads to protect our wooden furnitures. He had some so they used plastic wrap for the rest of our wooden furnitures resulting into dings which were minor but irritating. When we contracted with him we were under the impression that he had his own truck big enough for our move. On the day of the move, 2 guys with a 17 footer U-haul truck showed up. They had to cram our furnitures that caused the broken glass and dinged furnitures. Stefan never showed up. Run away from this moving company. read more

Koev's Moving was BY FAR, THE BEST moving experience I've had in my life time. I am experienced in being moved, as I have moved 7 times in the last 15 years. Koev's Moving provided excellent and timely customer service, a hassle free and damage free move, and the most fair price. We moved from a 1400 sq. ft, 3 bedroom apartment, and the job was done in a timely fashion, with no problems and no damage. I have used a different moving company during each of my moves in hopes of finding a better company. In the past, we've always had some furniture damaged and were not compensated for it, as well as were charged well over $1200 for the move. However, during this move, we had more furniture and boxes than in the past, and were charged less than in the past, had better customer service, and zero damage. I have read all of the reviews on YELP prior to using this company, and I highly disagree with some of the comments of the clients who gave 1 star. All of the financial information was provided up front, including any possible additional fees, which were waived. All communication was swift, professional, and friendly. Traffic and road construction in Chicago is NOT something people have control over. Stefan and all the other movers were very good at their jobs! If I ever have to move anything again, I will ONLY be using THIS COMPANY! I highly recommend this company for anyone looking to have an efficient and safe move, and for a bargain. At first Stefan seemed very nice and responsive. His quote was very competitive. In the end, it cost almost 3 times as much as the "binding estimate". Several of the men working for him were unprofessional and using way too much packaging materials to jack up the costs. Several items broken or missing. Rather than fixing or replacing them, Stefan just blamed someone else for it and blew me off. For example they broke an expensive vacuum. First he said he ordered a replacement part, which did not materialize for weeks. Then he blamed my cleaning woman for it. Than after multiple calls he showed up with the "new" part. It turns out he just glued it. The dial of a unique clock never showed up. Several large glass pieces and bowls are missing, presumably broken, but never admitted to it. I have moved many times in my life, and this was not a good experience. read more

I had Stephan and his guy move stuff from long term storage into my remodeled home, from my mom's place, from a storage pod into my house, and drop things off at my sister in law's. I totally overscoped the move on him, telling him it would only take two guys and it really should have had four. He showed up on time, and he and his guy worked their butts off to make it happen. They worked without stopping to eat until 6:00 to meet some of my timing requirements, then grabbed a sandwich, and came back ready to rock and roll. They hustled, were careful with my stuff, knew what they were doing, and went above and beyond. They even moved a heavy piece of equipment into my basement for me. Imagine a phone call from your college age daughter, stressed out and worried because she "dropped the ball" contacting the movers you had lined up for her to go from one apt. to another. (I'm in Columbus ,Ohio, she is a DePaul Univ. student.) That is the scenario last Friday evening as I called mover after mover only to get their voicemails.Thinking that all is lost and that I am going to have to wait til the next week and pay rent for two apts., I remembered Yelp, logged on and found Koev 's Moving with only one review. Only one review, but it was excellent...why not? I was desperate because she had to be out that upcoming Tuesday. I called Koev's and, wonder of wonders, an actual person answered. I described the situation to Stephan Koev, he asked a few questions, who, what, when ,where, and said he would call me back in a minute or so. (This is a holiday weekend , so I am already impressed.) Stephan calls me back pronto, gives me a very competitive quote, and says that he can be there early Tuesday morning. I accept. Tuesday morning arrives, I am at work on pins and needles, hoping and praying that all goes well. I have badmouthed the moving industry for so many years, after several terrible experiences with big name/ big volume movers. Whether they ended up damaging your items, lying about their hidden costs, working ridiculously slowly to run up the bill, show a lack of respect, etc...I constantly found ways to be disappointed/disgusted with the large amount of dollars i spent using "professional" movers. I decided maybe it wasn't the best idea to go with a "nationally recognized" name..for maybe they just didn't care as much now that they were "nationally recognized:". Maybe the level of attention to detail was lost when they became so known. I found Koev on Yelp. They seemed to have very good reviews...and the reviews actually looked real. Thought I'd get a quote. Stefan came out personally to meet me and my girlfriend and I had a very good sense that I found the right company. After meeting him, I didn't get a price quote from anyone else. He was VERY friendly and made you feel like he was one of you...putting himself in your shoes. He took extra time in our home making sure he understood every last detail about the move and our belongings. He came across incredibly honest and never over-promised anything just to land the sale. I was impressed by his price quote, and the skeptical part of me said "no way will it cost that little" but I really trusted his style and approach and decided to listen to my gut. I loved the fact that the owner of the company was meeting with me and putting his reputation on the line...as opposed to some sales rep coming out who had nothing to do with the actual move. Well...my gut was right. This was EASILY the best move I ever had in terms of what I got from my movers and for my money. They were on time. They were friendly, communicative, interested, rather professional and polite. Stefan brought two of his guys with him and they started working, and HARD, right from the very first second. I never saw them standing around or moving slowly. These guys were WORKING every second. And they were really thinking about their decisions on the order of what to move things to not only keep the move as quick as possible...but also to be as conscientious about our belongings as possible. They had a real good system down and knew how to work together to make everything go smoothly. We even had to squeeze an extra component of the move in at the very last second when we asked them to go with us to clear out a big storage locker...and they adjusted on the fly with no hiccups or complaints and got it done quickly. Nothing was broken. No time was wasted. They were continuously giving us updates and asking questions(while moving, not standing), asking us where we wanted things if we didn't label them well, etc. This was a very hot day...they took no breaks besides a very short lunch on the way out to location #2. These were all solid, likable guys...and real hard workers. I never tipped movers as much as I tipped these guys...because I truly wanted to reward such a great job. I felt the typical percentage tip you'd give on my move wouldn't have been fair with the job they did...so I made sure to go above and beyond..for their performance and effort was worth that much to me. I would use them umpteen times and refer anyone I know to them. I'm a real person...this is a real review. Anyone can move you...but if you're concerned with the job being done to your expectations/satisfaction...and you want a fair rate to go with that performance...don't look anywhere else. After reading all the great yelp reviews I thought I made the right choice by choosing Koev because I wanted to make sure I would have experienced movers that was careful and courteous since I had bad experiences with movers in the past. I spoke with Stefan over the phone and requested that he would be part of the moving team, but understandably he was out of town and was unavailable on the day of my move. Instead they had sent three movers, Brandon, who was fantastic and was the lead, but two brand new movers that I was told had only moved once or twice before. One of the movers did not know how to wrap when he was asked to wrap up the sofa and a few chairs. After about 10 minutes of watching him attempt to wrap the sofa he abandoned it completely and disappeared. I understand that there are furniture items that cannot avoid scratching the walls, but the same guy was just grabbing smaller, looser items by the armful with items sticking out all over the place and kept bumping into my walls and rails when those smaller items could have easily avoided the walls if he was just more careful. I was nervous every time he picked up anything. I had two boxes that had broken glass with liquid items. Two snow globes exploded and water spilled onto my hardwood floors. A box of pantry items were full of broken bottles and sauce was dripping out of the box. I opened it up and it was a box full of broken shards of glass and sauce. Imagine trying to find a towel when everything is still in boxes. They also do not accept checks. I didn't realize that until the last minute when stefan called to give me the total that I owed. It was my fault for missing that info on his website. They do accept credit cards, but not without a fee that was the percentage of the total and not a flat fee. Update Sept 30, 2014 in response to owners comment: Stefan, I did not fabricate anything here but I have edited it to remove some of the details that may be irrelevant. However this was my experience and nothing was exaggerated even tho I removed some details. Response to your comments below: 1. I am only stating a fact that you do not accept checks regardless if you have it written in your clause and I had missed it. Either way I re-worded my review to say that it was my fault for overlooking that info and removed the inconvenience I put on myself for having to run out to the atm to get the cash. 2. I did come to yelp, which is why I called Koev. Others' experience does not change my experience. However I do want to state how courteous and careful Brandon was during the move. I really appreciated him and how hard he worked. Because of this I'll meet you half way and rate three stars instead of two. 3. Yes my snow globes were wrapped in bubble wrap and my box of sauces were wrapped in newsprint. Yes you are correct that I did not mention any of that in my emails to you because I was willing to overlook that because my concern in my emails was focused on the inexperienced mover and I was merely informing you about it. But I did not lie about the broken glass items just because it is new news to you now. 4. Like I've stated in my email the only way to repair the damages would be to re-drywall the walls and re-sand/re-stain my furniture. I didn't want it fixed by covering it up with a felt marker or by a magic eraser or anything similar. That is my decision. You can't fault me for declining your offer to come fix the damages when I would prefer it done professionally. I was just saving yours and my time. 5. I did not exaggerate. Since you have posted my emails, here is one of your emails you sent to me in response to my initial email after the move: "I did have a chance to talk to crew and am now confident I can state the following here: I, too, find the third guy not attending up to our strict standards. I am willing to compensate 4.0 manhours ( $12.75/hr) as a small token of appreciation. I also am willing to come by and try to repair the scratched furniture to the best of my ability and any wall/railing scratches as well. Please do let me know when is a good time to stop and mend our work. Best regards, Stefan" But you recanted and now you stand firm that he did do a good job and I was never compensated. It was never about the compensation for me. You sympathized and I was grateful at first, until you changed your view and now saying that I am fabricating. 6. You did scheduled 7:30am with me. I remember this very vividly because I told you that the elevator was reserved for me at 8am and that 7:30 may be too early but you said that is fine because they would be using that time to wrap furniture anyways. btw I did not know you were on the west coast and that it was 6am where you were. Stefan and his team are incredible! Needed a 8 pieces sectional from Costco to be moved to my home basement. I spent two days calling all the local movers but to no avail the cost and time were not reasonable. I gave one call to Stefan and he was able to fit me in next day during evening time and provided a reasonable price. Next day Brandon and Mo mo called to let me know they were available earlier if I wanted. But unfortunately I was at work. We set to meet at Costco and they were on time, loaded the truck and bought it to my house. They were courteous and professional. Unpacked the sectional and took pieces down to the basement. I picked Koev based on their Yelp review. I was moved by the sincerity of the review, and decided only to call this company for a quote. This was a risk, but I was very busy, and I didn't have a lot of time to call around. Thankfully it all worked out. Stefan Koev replied to my email inquiry within hours and the we scheduled my September 30 move all via e-mail. A few minutes before Stefan and his crew arrived, I found out that the freight elevator in my building was broken, which required the guys to move me in the much smaller passenger elevator. This stressed me out greatly, but the Koev moving team was very reassuring that it would be ok. The guys packed the elevators and ran down 5 flights to unpack. They did this for over 3 hours. I felt horrible, but they again assured me that it was fine. The move took longer than initially estimated, but everything was delivered to my new place carefully wrapped and in full working order. Stefan and his team were hardworking, careful and very friendly the whole time, importantly, they were affordable. I was so pleased with the work they did, I shared their information with two friends who were planning on moving in the coming weeks.
