Came here with a group of friends and had a great time! The restaurant is on the smaller side and is quite popular so be prepared to wait! Originally when we called for a reservation sonce we had a big group, they said that they didn't really do reservations and to just arrive early to make sure that we had a table. They ended up putting our name down early anyways, so when we arrived early, it was no problem getting tables. Food was amazing though. Portions are crazy big - one entree is enough to feed 2 or more people. My friends and I got many different things off the menu and everything was great. The lemongrass chicken vermicelli and special pho were the top favorites though. The staff were very nice but there are too few for how many people were seated. It takes a long time to even track down a server and we had to go up to the counter to get our own water refilled. Nen is a relatively new Vietnamese restaurant located in the strip mall at the corner of Canada Way and Edmonds. I decided to try it after reading the positive reviews on Yelp. The restaurant was clean and the décor was pleasant. I ordered pho to take out, which cost about $17. The pho was fine, but fairly average and milder in flavour than I prefer. They also offer an excellent dine-in happy-hour special for about $15. It includes the same-sized bowl of pho as the regular order, along with spring rolls and another dish. That seemed like an amazing value, but unfortunately, I didn't have time to eat there. What stood out most during my visit was the service, and not in a positive way. The servers were not particularly friendly and seemed to be simply going through the motions. I smiled, said thank you and tried asking a question, but each time I was met with a neutral, blank response. Friendly service can make a big difference, and for that reason, I would probably choose to try another Vietnamese restaurant next time. read more

Very happy with this restaurant. Managed to get a seat for lunch. Service was friendly and restaurant was clean. Steamed rice cake - not quite what I was expecting. I had this dish a few times at other restaurants and although it was good, it wasn't my favorite. Nen special pho - the broth was good and there was a hefty portion. My friend really enjoyed it. Even packed the rib bone home to eat it. Lemongrass chicken vermicelli - huge portion. I enjoyed it a lot. I've had it at other places where the chicken was just a bit more fragrant. Until now, our neighbourhood "go to" Vietnamese restaurant was a few blocks away from here on Edmonds St. I had started to tire of ordering the same Bahn Mi sandwich each time we go. I don't eat meat so my options have been limited at the other restaurant. Soooo happy to have this Nen restaurant on Canada Way. I tried their Lemongrass Tofu on Rice and it was sooooo good! I am super impressed with this dish. The Lemongrass flavor was very pronounced. Our daughter ordered Lemongrass Chicken with Vermicelli noodles and my husband ordered Lemongrass Chicken with Rice. He said the Lemongrass Chicken could have been a bit more grilled, but was pretty happy with the food otherwise. Portion was very generous. He could have just shared it with our daughter. Maybe next time he will. They have Coffee and Matcha Flights at this restaurant. These items are probably what draws the crowds to this place as they are "Instagram worthy" items. We tried a Coffee flight which came with four different flavors and you get to choose what kind of foam goes on top. Out of the four flavors, there was one that was mixed with Matcha. We unainamously agreed that this was the best of the bunch. Hubby felt it was generally disappointing. I'm not as harsh a critic. I think I enjoyed this flight experience more. Worth noting though, that I'm not really much of a coffee person in general. I'm more of a tea drinker so...my opinion is perhaps not a very reliable one when it comes to coffee beverages. We came here on a Friday night. I called earlier to try to make a reservation but was informed that they don't take reservations. The lady on the phone advised me to call back about half an hour before we wanted to get a table and put my name on the waitlist. We wanted a table for 7pm so I called around 6:30pm to put my name on the waitlist. Shortly past 7pm we managed to get a table. Always looking to try new Vietnamese restaurants and this one is at a great location with plenty of parking. Focusing on more the northern Vietnamese style of cuisine, they offer some items not seen elsewhere. Beef rib bone pho was rich but not oily. Plenty of meat and the soul of the broth was pronounced. Chicken stew with rice noodles was soothing and super tasty. Healing flavours. Steam rice cakes were super popular and done well. Spoonful of toasted peanuts, minced meat sauce, one big bite and complex flavour profiles bursting on the palate. Too bad one order only has 5. The beef carpaccio was also on point and we love them ultra thin slices showcasing optimal texture. Coffee flight was nice if you fancy vientamese style coffees. One thing wish they will add is beer. I finally had a chance to visit NEN. I found this place through instagram. They offer central Vietnamese cuisine. I did not have a chance to din-in, so, this time I take out What I got: Lemongrass chicken on rice, Grilled pork banhmi Egg matcha. Egg matcha was egg coffee style matcha latte. It was very creamy sweet egg form on the top of matcha latte. It was good, But I think this form paired with coffee better. However, this version was not bad. I did not have Grilled pork banh mi, my partner said it was ok. Pork was good, but it felt like it needs more vegetable to balance. Lemongrass chicken on rice was very decent and good. Portion was very large. Chicken was very tender and had very strong lemon grass flavor. I liked it. Overall, everything was very decent. Nen went pretty viral with their authentic Vietnamese cuisine, featuring home-style central Vietnamese dishes. A lot of care in the menu and presentation of the food can clearly be seen in every dish. As price goes you'll be paying $15-30 depending what you order. But from what I've seen the platters as big hit as well as their matcha/coffee flights. We ordered (description from Ubereats menu): Mi Quang Pork and Shrimp- Mì Quảng Tôm Thịt $21.50 - Fresh rice noodles with pork and shrimp, egg, topped with roasted peanuts, fresh vegetables and crispy sesame crackers. Served with a light flavorful broth. Nen Special Platter - Mẹt" Nén"đặc Biệt $27.75 - Grilled pork on lemongrass skewers, grilled beef wrapped in betel leaf and shredded pork with fine rice vermicelli. Coffee Flight $14 Again, beautifully presented. The platter was good to share or have it for leftovers. The meat had a good smoky grilled flavour. The one think I wasn't a huge fan of was the grilled beef wrapped in betel leaf, it was over cooked and tough to chew. The broth from the Mi Quang Pork and Shrimp had great flavour and was welcoming on a cold day. Coffee Flight/ Matcha flight is four 3-4oz of coffee or matcha with different foams on top. Great for a caffeine pick me up. Prices are a bit steep considering all the other Vietnamese restaurants in the area. But they are doing something new and different, elevating and focusing on Central Vietnamese cuisine. But rejoice! They've just rolled out a Happy Hour menu! Monday- Thursday 12PM-5PM (Dine in only) you select one of four meals and get 2 veggie spring roll for $15. Not a terrible deal in this economy. Parking is limited, and I do believe that it still gets pretty busy, so get there early or at an off time to avoid waiting. read more

Been seeing quite a few new Vietnamese restaurants popping around everyup corner and Nen was amongst one I was really looking forests to try! The restaurant is tucked in a small complex Burnaby with parking lot which was convenient. We arrived for dinner before the dinner rush and was lucky to grab a table pretty quickly. We ordered the crispy spring roll, mi quang chicken, and nen special pho. We really liked the spring roll because it has very unique crispy outer layer that wraps the spring roll wrapper that makes it extra crispy! The mi quang chicken was not my favourite. It is a chicken stew with curry like spice but I did find it a bit bland in flavour and they missed the crispy sesame crackers in my platter. The nen special pho was very flavourful and that large back rib sure was a highlight and surprisingly meaty. The dishes were a bit slow to arrive but the staffs were very friendly and did let is know the kitchen is still a bit new. I would come again to try out their other menu items and da nang flight in particular! read more

We got the Nen special platter, butter garlic chicken wings, shrimp papaya salad, Mi quang shrimp noodle soup (without pork), and Matcha flight with ube, salted, and two matchas. The special platter wasn't what I expected. It came with fresh ingredients, such as lettuce, basil, mint, and pickled veggies. I liked that it came with chicken, pork, and beef. The chicken was overcooked, but the pork and beef were tender and tasty. We had to check on when the chicken wings were coming twice. We were pretty much done eating and they still hadn't come. When it finally did, it was the most disappointing part of our meal. The wings had a very mild garlic butter flavor and I found that it wasn't consistent throughout. The shrimp papaya salad was good, but the shrimp was not deveined and it was overcooked. The Mi quang shrimp noodle soup was very different from anything that I have ever had before. The broth was super flavorful. One thing we didn't like about the dish was that the shrimp had the shells still on them. I feel like this took away from the dish and just felt lazy. The matcha flight was good, but could have used a touch more sugar. The ube was my favorite and then the salted one was my second favorite. 3.5 stars read more

Stopped by on Saturday at noon. Waited 45 mins for a table for four. Food arrived promptly but it was a little smaller than I expected at the price point. The bun bo wasn't very flavorful - I ended up adding a lot of chili oil to it. The matcha flight was cute but not much matcha flavor. Enjoyed the cold foams though. Amazing. We had a party of 7, shared two dinner platters and 3 pho, an Ube coffee and a pop and it was all so very delicious! The prices are quite reasonable as we thought the bill would be more than it was after splitting it all. Highly recommend this place for its hospitality (they don't take reservations but I called ahead to let them know we were a bigger party and they were happy to help) and service but above all the FOOD was so good! It's not a dish that's easy to find elsewhere. We ordered the bánh xèo and Nén's special platter. Overall, it was decent. However, the pork skewers were a bit dry and saltier than expected.
