Phnom Penh noodle dry small #28
    Carolyn L.

I like the Phnom Penh noodle (dry version) way more than the beef noodle. Both are tasty but maybe not many places have Phnom Penh (or Cambodian) noodle, so I like it better. It is very similar to the bak chor mee (minced pork noodle or Teochew noodle) in Singapore. The difference is in the sauce. But if you are missing the minced meat, shrimp and fish ball in your noodle, this will be the place for it. The soup is also tasty. At the end of the meal, you get a fortune cookie (and a slice of orange during lunch). It was not very busy the few times I dined here. I did notice people do take out more over here. Cash only and there are plenty of signs around the restaurant to remind people of that. I wish they will change the cutlery as the metal soup and chopsticks are just not very easy to eat with.

I live nearby, so this is one of my go-to "don't feel like cooking" places. It's fast, cheap and tasty. The service is always quick and friendly. You're seated and given menus almost immediately. They're quick to take orders and serve food, but you're not at all rushed. The food is not the best Vietnamese I've ever had, but it's pretty good. I recommend adding the satay spice to pho, otherwise it can taste quite plain. The beef and carrot stew is tasty, as is the curry soup. If you're not in the mood for soup, I recommend the vermicelli with grilled meat and spring roll. They started using metal utensils, which I'm not a fan of. They get very hot if you leave them in soup. It's cash only!

Food was tasty and the broth had good flavors. It's just a nice family ran spot. Very fast service and very inexpensive.

I went to this restaurant before the pandemic and was getting ready to go on vacation so didn't want to cook if needed, I ordered the rare steak tendon & tripe with salad rolls with shrimp, I was happy with my choice and would go back

As the city grows, so do the expansion of 'pho' noodles joints. Kingsway is filled with these, and here's another one. It is near metro, and I think it is open either really late, or 24 hours. It is roomy, new, and if your coming late at night there usually is tons of parking right along Kingsway. On this night I had a regular bowl of pho, and one of their salads for a late night dinner. The servings are standard size, the noodles though could use some work. Middle of road in any othe rarea, but near Metrotown, probably one of the better ones if your looking for a 'pho' fix.

I had the most expensive spring rolls in my life here, and they weren't even good. Skin was so thick, so it was really hard to chew. Guessing pho was not their specialty cuz fish cake noodle soup and BBH were both just edible. So much dill in fish noodle soup, it tasted like dill and dill and dill. Other ppl ordered rice, so maybe rice is better

I always loved this place, a lot of my friends live in the metro area and this would be our go to pho place! It has one of the best broths that I've tasted, and the portions are always enough to make you full. Last time I went with my hubsy after we stopped by in the neighborhood. I ordered a BBH instead of my usual special, and he got Spring Rolls on Vermicelli. Just saying, had this been a normal trip I would have rated their pho 4.5/5. The BBH however, is gonna be slightly different. The BBH was eh... Ok at best. Don't get me wrong, the broth was great as usual. My problem was that instead of pig blood and pig hock they simply tossed some sliced Vietnamese ham. Like, really? Not too impressed. Had they put on the correct toppings I would have given it a 4/5 but instead I'm gonna rate it a 3.5/5. It was still delicious but the lack of toppings was bad in my books. The spring rolls were great as usual. Vermicelli gets a solid 4/5, but I usually order mine with the meats haha. Hubs was trying to save money because we dine out too much. Still delicious though. 4/5 overall, mainly because of the pho. Try that before anything else.

There are a number of Vietnamese places close by but so far this newcomer is the best Pho I've found in Metrotown. I've had the rare steak Pho and deep fried spring rolls several times. The Pho is clear and flavorful. Somewhat unusually the Pho and especially the spring rolls are both somewhat spicy (black pepper). Something to be aware of if that's not your kind of thing, you might want to mention when you order. Staff has always been friendly and accommodating to requests. Lemon wedges and bean sprouts to add to your Pho. Orange slices and fortune cookies after your meal. Decor is eclectic, not sure if they specifically designed it that way or just left the walls painted with a sort of Mexican surfer theme from whatever was there before them.

The wonton noodle is so disappointed! None of the wonton is not broken. I have never eaten a wonton noodle as poor as this one. The soup is too sweet.

The meat and skin of the wing was crispy and juicy. The fried rice was a bit too moist for my taste, and there're green peas in the fried rice which I don't like. But it's just my personal preference. Overall, it was pretty good. I also tried their Hong Kong style milk tea. The taste and texture were quite authentic. The server was friendly. The restaurant was clean and decorated with Hong Kong old movie posters. I appreciated the owner's love for Hong Kong culture.

The food came out pretty quickly too, and we were very thankful lol. We ordered 2 stuffed chicken wings to try/share - the corn cheese one, and the cumin lamb rice one. It is a very interesting concept of stuffed chicken, and I am not sure I would re-order this again. I liked my cumin lamb rice one, but I wish there was more cumin and lamb flavour, and less rice. I would DEFINITELY come back to have their tomato beef noodle dish again. It was so homey, and the flavours really hit. The stew sauce tasted like a great mix of Asian and Western flavours. I don't really know how to describe it, but I was slurping this down so quickly. The beef was tender and cooked perfectly. I kept telling my partner how I wanted to learn how to cook this myself at home but was unsure how to replicate the flavours, hehe.

Hands down one of my favourite dining experiences here…read more Came to celebrate a birthday. The staff were wonderful and attentive. All dishes we had were flavourful and executed with precision. We were seated near the open door for the patio and the staff did not hesitate to offer a blanket for the chill. Our waitress was super sweet overall too; happy to have had her. Soft shell crab (4.7/5): perfectly crisp, delicious and fun to get hands on to eat as well. Bone marrow (3.8/5): immensely flavourful, maybe a tad overpowering, but also a messy but enjoyable eating experience. Crab fried rice (5/5!!!!): THE PERFECT RATIO of crispy bits, umami, soft rice volume, and refreshing green onion topping. Without the sauce, the rice was already perfectly savoury. The sauce was heavy on spice and soy so we added it sparingly in our own servings of rice, but definitely loved adding it in. We tried to keep the crab intact in its own little pile to maintain the texture as well. Perfect fried rice experience. I forgot how much I LOVE rice, but this dish revived my passion ~ Garlic noodles (4.3/5): HEAVY on the garlic, rich and creamy mouthfeel. Great texture on the noodles having been slightly charred during the fry. Great choice as well. Three Layer Dessert (4.8/5): I've never had anything quite like this. All components were delicious and executed well. A texture lover's wet dream. My personal take was that the streusel was a little too much, but the taste of everything together was top tier - loved taking little bites of each component. HIGHLY RECOMMEND. Lunch Lady's bib gourmand is well justified across the board. All my love to the LL team, they're quite honestly the best ever.

We are big fans of traditional fare, but the Block is a place we are so glad we experienced and will certainly return utilizing the knowledge we garnered during our first experience. A big thank you to for helping us through picking one price fixe January exploration of your local restaurants and filling it with other ala carte additions. As we often do we ordered far too much food, wanting to explore everything off a menu that is far reaching. Not sure if our additions worked with the price fixe menu, but we sure enjoyed checking everything out. The interior is interesting with the addition of structural steel in the space to keep this heritage building (I think) standing tall for a few generations. We sure hope it's still here for a long while and will most likely come again the next time we are in Victoria. That is saying a lot as there are a wide range of restaurants in the neighbourhood, but you do want to check the Block out!
