Went here to treat my gluten-free girlfriend for her birthday dinner. I've never paid so much for such a horrible dining experience. New fall menus had several typos and inconsistencies. It clearly had not been proofread or checked for accuracy-- lazy. At a restaurant known for dietary restriction accommodations, they were completely out of gluten-free buns for my girlfriend's burger and the meat patty diameter was smaller than McDonald's--barely a tablespoon of shredded cheese on top. Our "crispy" potatoes were undercooked, cold, soggy, and completely unseasoned. Tried to replace them with mashed potatoes, and they asked to charge us for it. Insulting when potatoes cost less than a dollar each at the grocery store. My $35 dollar steak was also COMPLETELY unseasoned. I ordered medium rare, and somehow the outside was completely charred and brittle with no seasonings to "blacken." The stovetop was clearly too hot, yet the steak came out practically room temp. I couldn't finish it. I've had better steaks at Waffle House. It was supposed to come with caramelized pearl onions, and when my plate was brought to me they were nowhere to be found. The server came back saying the kitchen had no idea why pearl onions were included on the menu and they didn't even have pearl onions. It was advertised with black garlic aioli, and there was only a pitiful drop. Less than a ketchup packet's worth. The olive oil cake tasted like rubber cement, although the coconut topping was tasty. The food gave me such a bad stomach ache that I ended up throwing up when we got home. Gnats were flying around us the entire dinner, and the music was too loud and overstimulating. Her gin & thyme cocktail was the only thing that tasted salty, and my $18 bourbon cocktail was smaller than my fist and short-poured. Tasted more like a popsicle than bourbon, and was less liquid than a baby bottle. I didn't want to cause a fuss on such a special night and embarrass my girlfriend, so I didn't send anything back. It's not the fault of the server, she was very quick with service and friendly. This was a horrible first impression for me, and I definitely won't be coming back. My girlfriend had been there before, but she said they'd gone downhill. After you spend $120+ on a romantic birthday dinner for two, you don't want your girlfriend to say "How can we still salvage the night from that? I'm so disappointed" as soon as you get in the car. It's rare I feel actually robbed after a dining experience, but I won't be coming back and plan on telling all my friends to save their money. read more

Worst service in recent memory, which has prompted this review. We sat down and ordered coffee. They poured what was left and said they had to brew another pot. Fine. We waited for that coffee for well over an hour. Finally after asking for it again and again, from 3 different servers, we got our cups of coffee. Unbelievable. And the restaurant did not appear to be operating at max capacity. I don't know what the back patio looked like, but the lunch rush appeared to be over and there were some empty tables around us. First off, a beautiful space! Probably the most aesthetically pleasing restaurant we visited on our trip. The menu looks fabulous. The drinks are interesting, and I was curious about several. We came here on a weekday, when we walked in there were three other tables seated. We had a downtown tour to attend roughly an hour and ten minutes after we arrived, but since they brand themselves as fast casual, I didnt think it would be an issue. Drinks took about 10 minutes to receive, seemed a bit long, but we weren't too worried. Ordered the cauliflower and a salad. After we got our food order in, waited 25-30 minutes, pulled the obvious glancing around everywhere for a server, to being ignored for another 5 minutes. At that point I assumed our orders were never put in. Finally got the attention of the manager, who said she'd look into it. We watched them look through the kitchen orders, ours wasn't there, and she came back to us. Our original server finally came back with a lackluster apology. This entire issue was very confusing to me, due to how few people were in the restaurant when we ordered. By the time we actually got our food it was much busier. This is now an hour into our visit. Went to Naive for Valentine's Day (with reservation). This is a fairly negative review worthy of less than 3 stars, but I'm giving the benefit of the doubt that the special event overwhelmed them. Arrived on time for my 7:30 reservation. Was waiting at the door for several minutes before we were seated. Sitting towards the front of the restaurant was uncomfortable due to it being cold outside. Every time the door opened and Arctic wind would push through the place. Many people were wearing winter coats at the table still. I have seen other restaurants deploy a temporary secondary entrance hut out front to fix this. We were seated for several minutes before we were greeted by a very friendly server. She quickly brought us waters and asked if we had questions regarding the Valentine's Day meal options. We ordered some maple old fashioned's. Soon after the first course was brought out our server asked us for our choices for the rest of the meal. Mine was - mushrooms Salad Chicken Creme brûlée. My dates was- Mushrooms Carrot soup Cauliflower steak Creme brûlée We had a chat with the server about a vegetarian restaurant making Creme brûlée. Quite interested in that in particular. Mushrooms came out after a reasonable wait. They were tasty. Old fashioned's took quite a while. I saw them being made and it took a few minutes for them to get to the table. Next someone tried to being the main course. I told them we hadn't had the salad course yet. Salad/soup course arrived. Salad was decent, soup was excellent. Seriously, get it when you go. They then tried to bring desert. They then brought the wrong entrees. Ordered drink round #2. They are good old fashioned's. We finally got the correct entrees. The chicken was really good. This is largely a vegetarian/vegan/gf place so I was concerned about the chicken, but I would recommend it. The cauliflower was disappointing. It was just basic cauliflower for the same price as a well dressed piece of chicken. Very different in quality and volume. I made cauliflower steaks at home for curiosity sake afterwards. Was quite easy to make a better one never having done it before. Recommend skipping that one. We waited quite a long time for desert. Especially with them already trying to serve it before the main course. After a while someone came and said we would have some cake or a brownie as they had run out of creme brûlée. On a fixed menu mind you and we had ordered the deserts with everything else nearly an hour before. Neither replacement option seemed good to us. She seemed surprised that we wouldn't jump at the chance to pick something besides what we had already chosen against. She offered to replace it with drink from the bar. We agreed to comp our round 2 drinks. With tip it was $128.00 I believe for some good, some not good food. 4 drinks, and no desert. Would not recommend based on this visit. read more

We came for a girls night dinner on a weeknight that wasn't crowded. The service was very friendly, and she kept returning to us to check in and replenish water even when we had finished the meal and just were talking. I do love the look of the restaurant, how very millennial of it all. I have been a bit reluctant to go because the menu online isn't very specific and it seemed a little complicated for complicated sake. However, I am so glad that I tried it anyways and got the poke tuna bowl. Rice noodles, a bed of greens, sweet pepper, a generous helping of quality raw tuna, all dribbled with a maple teriyaki sauce and sesame seed. Maybe a little too much sauce for me, but it was a yummy and interesting meal with different textures and sweet/spicy ratio. Would absolutely recommend that meal to everyone. Location is on the outskirts of downtown but still walking distance, which made it a lovely place to eat while still feeling a bit secluded. Outdoor patio was so nice to sit at while dining in the nice weather. We absolutely loved the ambiance, and our server was helpful and kind. For the group of 4, we ordered the General Tso's Cauliflower, broccolini, farro bowl, roasted eggplant, stripped bass, and one other entree that is escaping me right now. The flavors were delicious, but portion sizes were a bit small for the price. However, the place definitely has a monopoly in the "healthy/trendy" category for the city. My husband had originally chosen a different restaurant for lunch, but when they were unexpectedly closed we decided to try Naive. I honestly think we had a better lunch here than we would have at the other place. It is very plant-centered and has lots of vegan and vegetarian options (it is not a vegetarian restaurant). If you have food allergies, this is a great spot as the menu is very clearly labeled for dairy, egg and gluten. We had a delicious starter with the General Tsao's cauliflower, which was breaded crispy cauliflower with a wonderful sauce served with crispy greens and pickled green beans, followed by the grain bowl and the noodle bowl. If you are a vegan or vegetarian be sure to add the tofu to your dish-it was delicious. In addition to the amazing food the ambiance was great, very modern with large windows letting the sun stream in and the service was attentive without being overly so. I went to Naive with a group of 9 for brunch and while some things were spot on they definitely have some kinks to work out. I will without a doubt be a returning costumer. For starters, the menu includes options for various types of diets, which I find extremely accommodating since my group of friends includes vegans, vegetarians, and meat-eaters alike. Going somewhere that everyone has equal opportunity to find something delicious on the menu is underrated. The decor and atmosphere are stunning, and leave you feeling comfortable and impressed. Our server was great, and you could tell knew what she was doing. The servers were making bar drinks, espresso drinks, and taking care of a full restaurant by 12:30. With only 3 servers that was pretty impressive. Sure, I've had quicker service elsewhere, but we weren't in a hurry, and these servers aren't just slinging basic mixers in here, so you can't expect it to be speedy quick. The key to this menu seems to be knowing what to order. Some of the dishes were stellar, and some fell short. To start off we ordered the buffalo cauliflower, and beet hummus. For me, both these dishes were a win! The hummus was rich in flavor, beautiful in color, and garnished with fresh mint which was a nice touch. The cauliflower was *perfectly* cooked, crunchy and spicy goodness, but the portion did seem slightly small. For entrees, several of my friends ordered variations of the Foundation Bowl depending on their diet. Every single one of them was impressed, and loved it! I even tried a bite of my boyfriends kale, and that was seriously the best cooked kale I've ever put in my mouth. They were generous with the avocado, and you could tell that was some quality bacon used in the meat friendly one. My friends that ordered sandwiches said the bread was a bit much, and the overall flavor was bland, but nothing was terrible. The tuscan potatoes they ordered as their side option far outshined the actual sandwich. The potatoes didn't look like much but they were perfectly seasoned, and cooked. I ordered the breakfast tacos, but made them vegan. I think this was a mistake on my part, but also that's something Naive could look into improving. The vegan eggs are very dry, and so are the beans, and the corn tortilla, which made the dish not super appealing. From the bar we ordered Bloody Marys and Mimosas. Honestly the Bloody Mary was the worst thing on the table. They were watery, lemony, and very under seasoned. For a 9 dollar drink, I think its fair to expect much more. The mimosas however, were a huge hit at our table, and very fairly priced. They had a lot of pulp which we loved. I truly can't wait to try this place again and see how it goes! read more

So this is after going to this place 4-5 times over the last year myself and talking to friends that have also been. Food: Not worth the price- not even close. They're veggie forward dishes seem to be at war with seasoning, and to our dismay they're winning the war. Dishes are typically very bland. They never have a complete menu, they're always out of something and the waiter/waitress is never able to give you a heads up before you place the order. Place your order, wait 15 minutes, pick another is the typical cycle. On one visit the Bucatini noodle were a weird lukewarm/cold and the dish honestly didn't taste good, despite how hard the ricotta tried to save it. The gnocchi dish was a single consistency of mush, similar to the consistency of processed baby food. Pork and peaches are not a good combo. I would say stick to burger but they've been out of it 80% of the time I'm there. Drinks: Decent at best, they need more alcohol forward options. The current menu is mostly sweet or citrus forward. Service: Also leaves a ton to be desired. As mentioned earlier they never have a full menu and the waiter/waitress never know until you place the order. The wait wasn't too bad on my last visit, but Ive had 1.5+ waits for the main dish on 4 dish orders with friends on a Friday night. I've also heard some horror stories from people who's orders that were forgotten/lost or half placed. With infrequent checkins at the table that had their order forgotten/lost ended up being there for 2-3 hours for lack luster food. 1 star for the cauliflower appetizer. 1 star for the ambiance. Would have gave two stars but they have those wildly uncomfortable booths where you have to straddle a poll / sit on stools. Big nah. read more

Stopped in Naive for dinner last night. First thought on walking in - love the decor!! The bench seat was a little tight/awkward for my 6'5" husband the way the bar comes down from the table, but he made it work. He had the chicken pesto sandwich and I ordered the beets & citrus salad with chicken added. I LOVED the salad; it's something I would order over and over again. It felt healthy but not boring, still yummy and satisfying. I think my husband was less thrilled with his sandwich, which he described as pretty good. He thought the type of bread used for the sandwich was a bit of an odd choice, the super crusty chewy bread with big holes that can be awkward for sandwiches. He liked it well enough, though! After two visits to Naive, I can say this place gets a solid four stars. After being a "six-day-a-week" vegetarian for four years now, I have a pretty good sense for good vegetarian food. My first visit here was on a very quiet weekday night and resulted in a pretty boring 3-star-meh plant-based burger. However, my second visit was a weekday lunch for a pretty fantastic salad with apples and avocado that didn't skimp on the fun parts of the salad. I remember the dressing being great as well. Certainly one of the better salads I've had. The decor is new hipster (less industrial chic and more 80's tropical) and while I can't comment on the drinks YET, my wife and I will surely be back for some food and a drink at some point. My only issue (besides the boring burger) was that this place didn't really have anything to set it apart. New American hipster-y restaurants are a dime a dozen in this city and the vegetarian spin wasn't executed quite well enough to keep my eye from wandering elsewhere when deciding on a dinner destination. I have no doubt we will be back, but probably not before trying a few other places. read more

I had the Kale Shroom Burger, vegan style with coconut milk cheese. The pickled onions really set the flavors off. It also came with crispy sweet potatoes with a tomato curry sauce. Amazing! I wanted to lick the little sauce container clean but that would be bad manners. My friend had the Masas de Puerco and it was super good. The pork was served on a bed of rice and beans, which by themselves were very good. I could find nothing wrong with the food or the service from Brennen. Go! Visited on a slow Sunday for a birthday. We were a party of 6. To keep it short and sweet, we were there for three hours and it took forever to get our food and drinks. Once we got our food, it was wrong and they charged us for food/sauces that we didn't get. The server took the extra $5 charge off my ticket for an item that was not ordered. Then we requested sauce for fries...it took over 45 minutes to get it and by the time one order arrived, we were all done eating and they charged everyone in our party $1 for this condiment that only ONE person requested. And they wouldn't take the charge off any of our tickets. The food was great but the service/management was poor. I'd say the food is a solid 4, atmosphere also 4, but 2 stars for the service/wait times. If you decide to visit, I would recommend the veggie burger and to sit outside as the decor is super cute. read more

Honestly one of the worst meals I've ever had. Our food was not cooked properly, service was incredibly slow despite us being the only people in the restaurant for most of our meal. Bean burgers were almost inedible, came with no sauce and we were charged for asking for any condiments at all. Someone in our group got the chicken and spent all night dealing with food poisoning. Did not plan on spending over an hour and a half at this restaurant as almost the only diners in the entire place. Staff had bad attitudes and we left hungry and incredibly disappointed. Y'all. This place is INCREDIBLE. We absolutely regret not coming in sooner. We had been meaning to for months and now I regret all the time lost not eating this amazing food. My parents came into town for my dissertation defense and "wanted to eat healthy" so I thought this would be the perfect opportunity finally try Naive. I was a little wary that my parents might have a hard time finding something to eat but I was absolutely wrong. They actually had difficulty picking because it all sounded so good - but both settled on the masas de puerco. I had the seasonal nachos (beyond delicious) and my husband had the pulled pork sandwich. We also started with the general tso's cauliflower and truly it was the star of the night. All of us are meat eaters and all of us agreed, the cauliflower was the absolute best dish of the night!! My cocktail was amazing too - brandy, grapefruit juice, honey, and IPA. I couldn't believe how much I liked the drink considering I'm not usually a fan of brandy or IPA's. To top it all off, service was quick, casual, and friendly, which we all very much appreciated. Truly, Naive is doing something special here and has something for everyone - I hope they continue the excellent work and I can't wait to come back again. read more

Truly disappointing service. This place was aesthetically beautiful and the food was delicious and gorgeous as well, however the service gave off the vibe that we were unwelcome, forgotten, and like the servers and cooks completely gave up. I was excited to try this place and thought it had excellent offerings at great prices, however the service was some of the worst I have ever experienced. Our drinks took forever to arrive, the server did not check in on us, it took us about a half hour to even order food (and it was not busy at all when we arrived, only two people at the bar and another table being served). Then it took a long while for the food to arrive. My friend and I ordered the same dish however hers arrived 20 minutes before mine did. Once it did arrive it was plated differently and the server said the kitchen was running behind today. Not sure why? It took us at least an hour after sitting down to receive both of our meals. It took us 30 minutes after asking to also get someone to bring us the check, they took it to the back with our cards and it was another 10-15 until we got our cards back. We ordered coffees to go and received them without straws and couldn't flag anyone down for any. Once we left I tasted my drink and it tasted like someone dumped half a bottle of salt in it. My coffee legitimately tasted like sea water so we had to toss it. Very confused if it was the kitchen, the server, or all of the above that just did not care. I legitimately felt bad for the table next to us and anyone new coming in and wanted to warn them that if they sat down they will not eat for a long while and if they are hungry to go somewhere else. I think I found my new favorite spot. Naïve is minimalist and yet abundant with greenery and welcoming vibes. Their menu is just varied enough without becoming overwhelming, and they have some killer cocktails as well as wine and beer. My husband and I went to Naive for the first time as a sort of anniversary lunch, and our 8 month old came along with us. I got the Full Moon Harvest bowl and I'm still dreaming about it. It was fresh and creamy, tart and savory, all at once. We also ordered the kale and artichoke dip, and I had to restrain myself in order to keep from licking the bowl clean. It was just that good. While I doubt there are any high chairs or slings in Naive, we felt entirely comfortably bringing out daughter, and noticed a couple of other families with little ones as well. I'd say it's a safe bet for lunch, though I can't vouch for how casual the vibe is at night. I was thrilled to be able to enjoy a heavenly meal in a beautiful space with my family to mark 5 years with my husband, and I'm so grateful that Naive provided the opportunity for us to do so. The decor and set up reminds me a lot of places in larger cities like New York or Scandinavian cities. Really bright and minimalist in a hip way. Went with a friend and we each ordered an entree item to share. She got the super food nachos. They were great! I was surprised by how good they were. I ordered the General Tso's cauliflower, which was the real showstopper for me! It was delicious and didn't have me missing chicken at all. The portions are probably smaller than some are used to, but I thought the servings were a good size. I was full, but not uncomfortably full. The day I went was so hot and we had been outside all day, so I decided to skip the cocktail. There was a beet margarita that looked amazing and based on the patron's faces who ordered it, it probably tastes amazing. Will need to make another trip to try it! read more
