I guess I came in here after an amazing Mexican meal in Camden, SC the night before, and thought it could be replicated here. It was not. Venue: This is just a quick in and out, fast cause restaurant tucked away inside an historic building. Staff were extremely friendly and welcoming. They have great happy hour prices, too, which can also set the mood of the place with the steady stream of diners. Vittles: Not bad. Everything is Southwestern. I had the chicken nachos, but there cook forgot the chicken, even though it was on the receipt. They quickly fixed the order, though. My brother (47, native Georgian) & I (29, Floridian/New Yorker) were walking around downtown Augusta looking for a cool lunch spot...we passed a couple other places that seemed like they might be good candidates, but they didn't inspire confidence. We took a look in the front door of this Nacho Mama's and Gregg said: "this is the place!" I really liked the look of it upon entering, wish I had my camera to get a better photo. Ordering is easy enough at the bar as soon as you walk in. Give them your name and in about 10 mins they have your orders prepared. (See the photos for the plate I ordered)...they do have a waitress that will come around or someone to clean up...but everything is pretty much do it yourself. Very tasty and filling with extra beans & rice on the side. Gregg had a burrito too (also good). We were watching all of the other dishes that were coming out, everything looked good. For the price ($6-10 a plate), the area & quality/atmosphere we'd say this place gets 5 stars. They had a drink fountain and juices or beers in a freezer. So you're drinks are pretty much covered. There are tables as you walk in & high tops along the side, booths in the back. In addition, they have a loft area with a pool table and additional seating up the stairs in the back. Bathrooms: We didn't check the ladies room, but the mens was relatively clean & stocked, they also had hot water (which is good in winter time). Decent place to go for lunch downtown. Had my first visit here today. I was WOWed but the food wasn't gross. It was pretty tasty and surprisingly non greasy. I had the Daddy Nachos. The chicken was very good & the guac tasted excellent as well! Food took a bit long to get out, there's no ice machine at the serve yourself drink station so I had to wait for an ice refill (not a huge deal, just an annoying inconvenience) and the place was a little sticky. There also wasn't many larger tables for groups bigger than 4. The staff was pretty nice and the food was tasty, so I would def give Nacho Mama's another shot! read more

Havana burrito was really good, I could tell that the shrimp were of good quality. I liked that it came with rice and beans on the side which were also really good, and they let you sub black beans for the re-fried ones that normally come with it, which was a good choice. They also had a ~D Chicko's hot sauce which I thought made a great addition to the meal definitely worth a try. My girlfriend got the Daddy nacho's which were also good, they definitely don't hold back on the portion size, except she said that there really was not much jalapenos, which detracted from her meal. These came with a side of guac that was really fresh. Overall chill place, you can have beers and margaritas here too if we pass through Augusta again we may have to stop by. read more

Nacho Mama's seems to be a pretty popular staple of the downtown Augusta eatery scene. I'd like to do something more comprehensive but it may have to wait as I only tried a few tacos and didn't order appetizers or drinks with my meal. Let's start with the meat and potatoes. The tacos were good, the meats were really well seasoned and juicy. I had a chicken, pulled pork, and mahi mahi sampling. The cheese I don't recall standing out and the lettuce was a simple shredded variety, probably iceberg, but it tasted fresh and when combined with the meat I was content with my meal. Pico de Gallo was provided but I'm not much for raw chopped onions and cilantro so I usually avoid it. I would've loved for a meat specific sauce to've been added but it wasn't the end of the world. I'm sure I could've ordered salsa or queso and that would've been a nice addition. The décor was fun and there's art all over the walls and a giant wall menu from which to order. The service style is fast casual, order and seat yourself, rather than that of a sit down restaurant with waiters and waitresses. Because the bar is in the middle and the restaurants shape is shotgun style, there're two seating sections, one at the front and one at the back. Looks like they have plenty of space and with the quick rate with which they produce the food, I expect the turnover is quite reasonable and you shouldn't have to wait long even if there's a line. The staffers working behind the counter were very pleasant and I'd feel confident asking for their recommendations. Nacho Mama's location in the downtown on Broad between 9thand 10thmeans there're plenty of parking opportunities nearby, even if you have to walk a little bit. It's right on the main drag's southern sidewalk and enjoyable enough a stroll should you be out and about for a night on the town. While there wasn't a huge crowd, as we were there right before closing, the ceilings were high and I don't expect it ever becomes too loud. Their online presence is substantial with a profession looking webpage with everything you might need to know from menu and price to hours, contact information, and even a map and address. I am thoroughly impressed by the online presence and visibility and the search engines knew exactly what to look for when I searched them. Well it wasn't all I thought it would be. I was really hyped to try it but I was very much disappointed. I ordered the bomb burrito and the T-Huff pasta with shredded beef. The chicken on the burrito had no taste. It was very much bland. The pasta needed salt and other seasoning as well. Instead of shredded beef, I'm thinking the shrimp would've made the pasta more flavorful. The only thing that was decent was the Nachos my husband ordered but again the chicken was very much unseasoned. However, the service was quick and the staff was friendly. Walked in and grabbed a Baja burrito and my buddy had a Godfather burrito. While waiting for our food to come out, saw this other group with some epic looking nachos. Will definitely be getting those next time. We sat down and devoured these burritos like no one else's business. They were quite amazing. Loved the food and the decor, but there was something going on with the ventilation there. New to Augusta. Stopped by for lunch with colleagues yesterday. The restaurant was much larger than I expected. Currently utilizing COVID-19 protocols with distanced seating, hand sanitizers, etc. I ordered the Capon burrito with chicken, black beans, spanish rice, lettuce, cheese, traditional salsa, and sour cream. It was a very large portion with rice and beans on the side. The burrito wasn't very flavorful...I really just tasted beans and sour cream. I got two tacos- one chicken and one carnitas. They came with cheese, lettuce, and tomatoes. I got soft shells. The tacos were nice sized but the taco meats were not seasoned very well or at all. We also got pork nachos. The salsa on the nachos looked like canned tomatoes. They were something we could have made at home and they would have tasted better. I last came here a few months ago when I was pregnant and sadly could have no margaritas. Today I wasn't pregnant but opted for a cider instead. My husband and I both ordered soft tacos. We each had a pulled pork and black bean soft taco, a mahi mahi taco, and he had the red chile shrimp taco. They definitely stack those tacos really full so about half of it comes out. Honestly, I thought the tacos could have used more seasoning in the meat. The only sauces available were red and green Tabasco, which tastes just like vinegar to me, and Di-Chick-O's hot and garlic peri-peri sauces. Nacho Mamas also has house salsas but charge for hem and I didn't feel like paying extra. From what I remember, the nachos I had last time were significantly better and I'd get those again instead of the tacos. The decor is more counter culture than Mexi-fornia style with pictures of 70s rockers and stars on the walls mixed with prints and colorful tiles. They also appeared to be tuned into a Ted Nugent station on Pandora because we heard three songs by him while we were there. They have a nice selection of draft beers and also make great margaritas.
