You know those quintessential places where the name alone draws you in? This was definitely one to me! My lady, raised in Augusta, mentioned this place to me, and I was pretty much hooked instantly. Nacho Mama's is FAR from your average, run-of-the-mill southwest-style grill. Oh no! This is MUCH better! The place itself has lots of comfortable seating with cool rock and blues decor (and great music playing). The menu is pretty vast with plenty of options for tacos, burritos, salads, pastas, and of course nachos. In fact, I'd give this place a 4.5 if I could (5 if the beer selection were a little better, but still I was really satisfied). You order at the counter and they'll call your name once your goodies are ready. The staff are super friendly and willing to make recommendations for any first-timers. My lady and I both opted for nachos. She ordered the simple nachos (chips, Monterey jack cheese, jalapeños, and fresh salsa) with beef while I got the step daddy nachos (chips, Monterey jack cheese, refried beans, pico de gallo, lettuce, sour cream, and mango habanero salsa) with pulled pork. The portions were HUGE! Definitely worth the money and THEN some! I was honestly surprised that I finished it all. But it was absolutely delicious from first bite to the last. Nacho Mama's, one of Augusta's "must try" locations! This restaurant is one of the least interesting ways to spend $32 on "nachos" for two. I say "nachos" loosely, because it was more of a lukewarm semi-dehydrated tortilla soup with a scant helping of dry unseasoned chicken. The sundance sauce is very good though, and did its best to save the dish. The serving sizes are reasonable. It is edible, could be good if I've had a few drinks, but probably would only be a first choice when there are no other great choices available. read more

So I found myself in Augusta unexpectedly on a Sunday and was craving nachos. Upon my Yelp search I learned that at least half of Augusta closes on Sunday, which is not necessarily a bad thing, I think we need a return to old fashioned values, but I digress. I stopped in just wanting a good margarita and nachos. A sign at the register read " It's nice to be important but it's important to be nice " this immediately put me in a good, positive mood. I love finding this attitude anywhere these days. As I approached the young man to order, expecting a friendly welcome, I basically got "What would you like ". Not rude in any way but based on the sign I expected an over friendly attitude. So at this point I know the sign basically means, be nice to our employees no matter what. Ok, that's cool. I order basic nachos with beef and a top shelf margarita, with tip $22. I thought that was pretty steep but maybe that's because I'm an old fart. Not sure why I tipped as you place your order at the register and they yell for you to pick it up when it's ready, but ok, it's cool. Margarita was way too strong, which some may love, but I like a delicious, well made margarita. The nachos were very, very average. The black beans, black olives and beef were good but the cheese had melted and dried already. I make much better nachos at home with minimal effort. Actually, I get better nachos at the movies and my son's high school baseball games. Anyway, I've been of the opinion lately that I only eat out at the 4 or 5 places that I feel like I get a good meal at a reasonable price. This reminded me of why I've taken this attitude since the pandemic began. Basically places want us to be understanding of slow service and even the quality of the food and the increase in prices. Well I've decided that I want my money's worth and I won't patronize places that give less than that. I've already completely quit with fast food. I really can't recommend this place and if I'm back in Augusta, I can't see myself returning. Beware! You'll get your dollar's worth here. As they don't do anything small. The fact that they actively say that they don't do anything small is something to take into account. Look, I went with a couple of coworkers and one of them ordered some nachos. He couldn't get through it. He only finished half of it, and he's 6'3. Out of all the major choices, what did I order? I know I'm weak, but I ordered a salad. I ordered the seizure deluxe. It. Was. Big. On top of the salad I added chicken and also a couple of tacos. The tacos I got was pulled pork and shredded beef. Let's start with the salad. The dressing that came with it was sort of a vinegarette based sort of dressing. It was tasty. The tacos were scrumptious. There's something I did want to say though, I believe the pulled pork was a little dry to my taste. Both of the tacos, I got one hard shell and one soft shelled and toppings were pico de gallo and cheese. It was tasty! I enjoyed the shredded beef a little more though. Definitely a place to come eat, but if you're looking to go restaurant hopping or to go to another spot afterwards... forget it. This place will fill you up with good prices and you'll be either stuffed, or extremely pleased at what you ate. It's only a couple minutes walk away from the Marriott, where I stayed, so it's really convenient. I sat at the bar... on a weekday. So the service was good. I wouldn't be so sure as far as sitting at a table, but for the bar, the service is usually the best. I did notice that the tables didn't get quite as much attention, but then again it wasn't that busy. This place is worth checking out. read more

The chips are always crisp, the pork is always delicious, and the cheese? There is always more cheese than you could ask for. Seriously though these guys are by no means stingy with they toppings and I LOVE it so much. They're dealing with the new restrictions, thanks to Covid, really well. Nacho Mama's because yo mama knows how to season her food. I got The Godfather burrito with pulled pork. The pork was so dry and unflavored. The beans on the side tasted like beans dumped straight from the can. We also got nachos, and the chips tasted like stale store brand tostitos. Went here on Monday after traveling back to SC. The place was ok. My wife has been here before and was anxious to try it again. I ordered the Stepfather. Loved the mango/jalapeño salsa on it but over all it was just okay. Not much flavor. I ordered it with chicken. My daughters shredded beef quesadilla was bland as well. My wife's chicken burrito was par for the course. Not too sure that I was too impressed. If We do an Ironman here again may give it a go but has to be on the last day. All of it came out at once. When I approached the building I was pleasantly greeted with the smell of authentic Tex-Mex cuisine. I opened the door and saw the requirement for masks and complied as I already had my mask on. For Nacho Mamas customers who did not have a mask, they were provided. All customers not willing to comply were kicked off the premise. I walk to the counter following the social distancing guidelines clearly marked on the floor and asked for my "Step-Daddy Nachos" order. While waiting I told a moment to enjoy the beautiful (for sale) artwork by local artists displayed within the restaurant. This is an unassuming joint with a super friendly staff. We had a drink along with chips and salsa (you get to choose types). Our salsa choices were Traditional (good flavor, not spicy) and Mango Habanero (fruity with almost no spice). We also had a quesadilla and nachos. No surprises with the quesadilla, but the nachos were unique and delicious! They have really good house margaritas and a small, but good variety of beers on tap. Give it a whirl! read more

This place is amazing. I have been there 4 nights in a row as I'm a traveling welder and don't have the time to cook. The salads are large and tasty. Plenty of protein (chicken, beef, mahi, shrimp) if you chose to add it. The quesadillas are a little smaller than I was expecting but the taste was absolutely phenomenal. The tacos are just as good. Up from Jacksonville. We like small scale Southern downtown scenes - Mobile, Natchez, Augusta, Memphis, etc. We were directed to Nacho Mamma's on Broad St by our hotelier Chuck at The Fox's Lair B&B. He said it was funky and real. It was all that and more. Great food, cool scene and southern friendly in a Millenial and Gen Z kinda' way. Their Bloody Mary was okay, but if it's among the best in town then maybe there aren't good Bloody Marys here. The spice level was good, but there were no garnishes. The portion size was very generous, I could have probably split it but we came here after spending a few hours on the river so I was hungry. The atmosphere that everyone likes had me further confused as to what this place was intended to be. I got a "soul" flavor by the decor... and it didn't really go with "Mexican" at all. Ok if this is the type food you are looking for, the place has "charm" and the decor is eclectic

I had decent expectations going in. There is clearly no care that goes into the food here though. Every ingredient is from a can or a bag except the chicken (which was dry from, I assume, sitting under a heat lamp all day). This is one of the handful of times I've ever been disappointed with restaurant food and I can readily say: if you have the energy to buy a bag of tortilla chips, some shredded cheese, and a chicken breast from the store and toss them all into the oven, then you can make better at home. read more
