Purely based on the quantity of food in the Crab fettuccini, I have to rate this a one star. We got carry out and to my surprise I open the metal container and it is 1/3 of the way full. A joke for $24.00. Update 7/7/16 I appreciate the comment, but having said yourself that it is a 24 oz container and my comment 1/3 of the container was full, that equates to 2 oz of uncooked pasta.. I loved this place! We went on a Saturday morning in September for breakfast. While other places were packed, we parked and were seated easily here. Coffee came fast, the waitress was attentive. Our waters & coffees were offered refills no less than 3 times in an hour. I got the crab omelette which was AWESOME!! Asked for Old Bay which got me a slightly weird look but it was delicious. Tons of back fin crabmeat. Kids got pancakes & eggs. Everyone left full and happy. read more

Food was good. Service was good. Waiter was good. Atmosphere was good and Interior was good. But pricing of some of the foods did not add up correctly. My fish and chips dish was so small it wasn't worth the $14.99 as advertised. It was more of a lunch plate than a dinner plate. Seriously? Something more like I could get over at Food Lion for almost 3/4th less. It not a bad place to go to. I would recommend it because of what I said in the first paragraph but a little change in the prices could give them a wholly of customers from the economic standpoint of supply and demand. To Management: As I said the portion of Fish and Chips was a small plate. For $14.99 it was more of a $5.98 plate. Glad to hear it was fresh fish, my statement of Food Lion means you can go over there and buy for the same amount of fish for less. Yes it was delicious but a little more would do good. read more

A group of nine of us had breakfast here this week. We got seated without any wait. The food was generally very good. Biscuits and gravy were very good. The French toast was delicious. I was told the chocolate chip pancakes were just average, but the bite I had was fine. My wife said the pecan pancakes were fabulous. My daughter said the scrambled eggs were really good. Service was fine and coffee was refilled on a regular basis. We can definitely recommend this place for breakfast. read more

Quaint little spot on the beach road. Staff was pretty friendly. Ordered grilled fish sandwich with fries...was ok but very cookie cutter like cafeteria food. We arrived at Old Nags Head Cafe for breakfast when the restaurant was about half full. We were seated right away but no one ever greeted us at our table or took our order. We waited around 20 mins before leaving. Two other groups were seated after us and were waited on. Every other place had a couple hour wait on Friday 7/3 We walked in here with 5 people and sat right down. We were so glad. The sourdough bread was amazing with my shrimp and grits. The kids pizza had the most amazing dough. The best part was desert, salted caramel cheesecake that melted in our mouths. Will come here many times again. read more

We've been eating here for over 10 years. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The seafood is fresh and cooked "light". We always get a few orders of fried green tomatoes to start things off. First time we tried this spot and the food was good. Definitely cannot be in a rush if you go here because they are not the most efficient or attentive place. The wait staff consisted of 3 individuals, one of which appeared to be the manager/owner I assume. Of the other two, one of the servers was completely useless and just wandered around like a lost pup without attending to any table's needs. There were multiple tables that were seated and then had to ask if someone would take their drink and food orders after 20 minutes had past. Four different people at multiple tables had to send their orders back to the kitchen because they came out wrong. Anyone's guess as to whether it was a kitchen error or server's error in notating the order in the first place. With some server training or replacement and a streamlined kitchen this could be a really good spot. read more

It's mid-August and I stopped in Old Nags Head Cafe for breakfast. I'll summarize the review this way- food is decent, service is poor. It's not worth enduring for the food. I was seated relatively fast, but hostess/waitress that seated me did not give me a menu. After a few minutes of waiting to be waited on, I got up and helped myself to a menu. After roughly 10 minutes a waitress came up and said "I'm not your waitress but I'll take a drink order for you until your waitress waits on you." Soon thereafter, actual waitress comes and takes order. She knows I've been waiting awhile so she asked me if I know what I want to order. I order an omelet. Coffee and Bloody Mary (spicy) arrive soon after, however, no water, no offer for another drink after last was finished. 30 minutes later, omelet arrives. Then I realize there is no silverware. I hail down a waitress for silverware. She leaves promising to bring silverware but doesn't. Five minutes later I hail down my waitress to bring silverware. She feels bad and then brings right away. But omelet has been sitting for at least five minutes after waiting 30 for it. The place was not that crowded. From the looks on faces of other diners (and no plates), I can tell this is not a unique situation. I give the place two stars because the Cajun omelet was good though very lite on the sausage portion. Good luck with service if you choose to try this place. This was the worst breakfast experience I can recall. Waitress was inattentive, scatter-brained.never did get knives or spoons, cafe au laiit was really plain milk with bad coffee in a tiny glass cup. The food- eggs and potatoes ok; bacon burned and tasteless(!), pancakes undercooked and rubbery (obviously a mix) syrup cheap off brand and gloppy, grits (not grits) dry and clumpy with no flavor. TERRIBLE! I'm not one to wright a review so harsh but this is probably the worst place I have ever been for breakfast. The staff was very inconsistent and I practically had to beg for any type of refill on our beverages. Not to mention there were no more than 5 groups of people at the time. Everything on our plate was microwaved besides the eggs and was cold when it reached our table. The pancakes, hash browns, grits, everything was cooked in the microwave. Went here this past Saturday and left pretty satisfied. The atmosphere was very relaxed and non crowded so it made the experience even more enjoyable. My boyfriend and I ordered the fried pickles to start off and they were fried perfectly. They weren't soggy and were very thin like chips. For our main course we ordered the shrimp and grits and the sirloin steak. The shrimp and grits were to die for and the steak was ok. It was a nice sized steak so you definitely get what you pay for but it was a little tough (i ordered it medium-well). The staff was very friendly and the wait time for our food and refills was slim to none. Great job old Nags head cafe! I will be back, especially for the fried pickles! read more

Had breakfast here this morning. In an area with overly inflated restaurant prices, the Nags Head Cafe has managed to offer a great menu selection at extremely reasonable prices without sacrificing quality. The meal was definitely cooked to order, eggs & biscuits were fresh and the hash browns weren't greasy. The fact that my meal was $3.99 was a confusing, yet not unpleasant surprise. On top of that, service was fast and friendly. We chatted with all the staff about the local area. Wish we had tried them for dinner! Definitely will next time. A+++ read more
