Got my gel French manicure today by Trang, she's giving me a fair job and I'm glad I did bc these 10 fancy fingers make me smile. I'd like to come back for the pedicure next time since the new chairs are in, and it looks like the owner's giving this salon a new dress! Too bad he disappointed some of the many faithful clients by not updating his business. Today I needed a quick mani pedi, I had never been but always am in the area and that "special" sign outside looped me in. t The nail tech was pretty rough with my toes and skipped both massages. The finished product was ok, I wasn't expecting anything spectacular for the price. I just needed a quick fix for the week.....but damn my toes are still hurting ! A bunch of customers were FaceTiming on their phone. It created a noisy environment and I prefer serenity and relaxation while getting my nails done. I wish they had a little sign about minimal cell phone use and consideration of others. Lastly, the place could use some TLC. I noticed it was a bit outdated but I started looking around, it was plain old dirty and the carpet needs a vacuum. Or to just be removed. I came in for a pedicure and NEVER again. They don't sterilize the instruments used for the pedicures. The woman at least cleaned the chair and basin before I sat down and used a new plastic wrap. The woman never used any exfoliating cream or water for my heels and began scrubbing away. The paint job was good. They need to update their shop. Ok so this isn't the cleanest place in town, but its not unsanitary.. if you want Newbury street looks, there's only one place to go for that... Newbury Street folks. The place is very spacious and even with a line, very seldom you will be waiting for a chair. They also do a fabulous and thorough job on waxing. My natural nail french manicure was great and the pedicure came with it for 25 bucks all together! Thats great and almost unheard of! The TVs are great and the color selections are vast. This place is great as long as you know what you're here for. It's quick, cheap, and convenient so don't expect any luxury while you're here. Not the cleanest/ nicest but it's not the worst. I come here for be $25 mani/ pedi which is a deal you can't beat!! I've come multiple times and have always been disappointed with the service because it's very clear that they just want to get you in and out and that's it. This last time I went I got Tammy and honestly I'm looking at this place differently now. She was AMAZING! Super nice and does her job very well. I went in there for a facial and was very disappointed. First off I had requested a specific person to work on me and when I arrived for my appointment she started the facial with me but about 5 minutes into it she left and had someone else take over. This is very unprofessional when you have an appointment with someone and then walk out in the middle leaving them for someone else to finish up. Then to make matters worse the person who worked on me did not even use steam during my facial and when I asked about it she lied to me and said she used very little steam, which is a total crock as I felt absolutely none and did not hear the machine they use for the steam running. I had been there one time prior to this and had a good experience but now that this has happened I will never set food in there again. I would much prefer to spend my money at Mimosa Nails across the street. read more

I'd like to first say that I'm a pretty FAIR reviewer of established businesses. With that being said, my daughter & I decided to get our nails done here by chance (our usual spot we booked to capacity). The first signal for me to leave was that there were NO prices listed anywhere. In my haste to get nails done I stayed & decided that I'd simply ask for pricing before we commence. I did so & was given the price of $25.00 for my nails & 30.00 for my daughters. She wanted a specific styling, which the guy confirmed he could perform. By the time we were half done...my daughter was cut twice, bleeding & on top of that the guy just slapped what looked to be art project-style glitter polish (I mean HUGE tacky glitter polish) on her nails & totally disregaurded the simplistic request originally asked of him! When I complained about him going off & doing his own thing, neglecting to do what he confirmed he'd be able to do, he plays dumb & says "its fine"! Then he fesses up to say "i cant do"! NOW, in my 36 years of life, lying to a customer in order to get them in your seat is BAD BUSINESS! But wait! It doesnt end there!!! He begins to get frustrated WITH ME because I call him out (by the way, i'm somehow managing to keep my composure). He rushes to NOW ring us out AND to put the icing on the cake (so to speak) he proceeds to charges my card $30.00 more than originally said!!! IM DONE!!!! Horrible attitude, Nasty business practice, complete disregard for you customer!!! & blatant disrespect!!!! Rude & spiteful. NEVER AGAIN!!! Ill even give the establishment the benefit of the doubt & say 'maybe he had a bad day', 'maybe his broken understanding of English caused miscommunication' BUT I'd be lying to myself & to you if I EVER honestly believe that! This place is good if you need to run in and get a nail fixed or get a fill/pedi with a tight schedule. However, if you're looking to go get some tender love and care, or an afternoon out, then don't bother. The prices aren't cheaper than other places and their mentality is definitely "get you in and get you out". Think of them as the fast food of nail care. They are very showy, with big fancy pedi chairs and nice decor, but don't be fooled. They spend more time on the decor than your treatment. read more

I'm sorry to hear about all the bad reviews. I personally like going to Nail and Spa. I have never been rushed out and i appreciate their quality of nail polish (primarily OPI and ELLE). My Nails are always well done, and the polish lasts for weeks at a time without chipping. That's with me doing dishes, laundry, washing hair, etc. (and i get the simple mani/pedi) I have been looking into testing out all of the services they offer on the "Spa" side and thus far i have gotten a Brazilian there. Would i recommend it? Not necessarily. But the job was done. There is only one person i would have do it, can't remember her name but she's the tall thin woman that sits in the very first chair, in the front all the way to the right of the salon , if you're facing the pedi-chairs. At the end of the day everyone has their own opinions and have their own interpretation of experiences. Give it a try at least- you may actually like it. I prefer to go on Sunday afternoons, after church. In most cases its just me and maybe 3 other clients. read more

This place is gross and the service is awful. I also work in the nails & spa industry and my experience with this place was horrible. So, I was leaving for Canada the next day to visit a friend and needed my nails done at the last minute. I walked in and asked for a fullset of french gel nails. I got rushed in and about $45 and 30 mins later I was done. Two days later in Canada, 4 nails popped off. Remember, I'm on vacation in Canada so I'm barely doing ANYTHING AT ALL. I came back on the 4th day after the fullset was done. (My trip was short) I stopped by to show them the nails that "Le" did. I wanted them fixed and they wanted to charge me! AFTER FOUR DAYS! I had a huge dispute with the receptionist, and she was just plain rude telling me it was my fault that I was "rough" on my nails. And let's not even start with the sanitation issues at this salon. I have never seen any of the techs. sterilize their tools, or even use the barbicide jars. That's just disgusting! Rinsing your tools in just water is NOT sanitary! After this incident, I will never EVER go back here again. Save your money and go to another salon because this place just wants you in and out. They're after your money, not your loyalty to them as a customer. read more

Went in for an acrylic fill. It felt like this was the first time this girl had ever done this... She tore up my cuticles in about 4 different places (OUCH!!) I've never had such a painful time getting my nails filled! Seasons down the street, although usually a wait is marginally better. The salon is nice and relaxing, but what does it matter when I'm sweating and freaking out that this chick is going to tear my hands up?! I also was kind of grossed out by the fact that when she had to remove one of my acrylics, she opened up the big box of fake nails, took one out, used it to slide under my acrylic nail to remove it, then SHE PUT IT BACK IN THE BOX! That fake nail was used to REMOVE MY NAIL, she should have NOT put that back in the box!! WHA?! Probably won't be going back! Looks like some of their clients were real "favorites". Having not seen me before, it felt like they gave me their "apprentice". Idiots! read more

I've been going here for years. They have their negative and positives and good far out-ways the minor things that can irritate us as human beings. Eyebrows - I guess the #1 thing to do is the waxing of the eyebrows. No matter who does it, it always turns out great as they use the natural arch of your eye brow to shape how they wax it. Mani Pedi - Here, some people are better than others but it you're not too sure, just ask for May. They do a very good job of clearing out your cuticles and if you don't want that done, just say so. Communication is key. Facial - The facial was nice. Not extraordinary but I felt relaxed and smooth after. Brazilian wax - I am a complete wimp and at one point another worker had to come in to hold my hand and help lol. The best person hands down who will do this the most pain free is Fong. Please beware that this is next to another nail spa that you do NOT want to visit. You'll know you're at the right place when you see the $25 mani pedi special sign outside. I went in with my daughter and niece to get my nails done they started to get their nails done, when the lady that was doing my nails was ready she came over and asked me to pick out my color, so I did and sat at her station. I wanted to remove the overlay I had on my real nails not acrylic, so she got the machine and started the piece that she put on was metal, she started on my nail and went so deep it cut my nail bed, I snatched my hand away so quick and she tried to get upset because she cut my nail bed it hurt so bad. To make it short don't ever go to this nail salon no respect and very bad customer service. read more

I'm surprised at all the negative reviews. It's not a 5 star nail salon but they're a pretty decent place. The place is very spacious, lots of pedi chairs, and mani booths. It does get busy...but you do get seated pretty quickly. A few times I have felt a bit rushed but I've gone on other days where they've taken their time. I've never had a unfriendly technician.. and there are many of technicians working there. But one pet peeve I do have is..talking on the cell phone while you're doing my nails. THAT'S A BIG NO NO! I've had that done to me a few times. The ladies who wax are very good.. and I always come back for them to do my eyebrows. The price is right here... and the service is decent.. I thought that I was having a bad experience just because I was in a sleepy mood and just wanted to get a mani/pedi without going downtown. First off, the nail tech seemed annoyed that she actually had to work on me. She sighed as she looked at the bottom of my feet for calluses. Yes, there were a couple but I take care of them at home twice a week so they are minimal. It took two seconds for her to smooth my heels. She also did square nails on my toes, not squoval but square. Who does that? She was annoyed I brought my own color. I have super short finger nails and she was annoyed at that because apparently they're much harder to work on than long nails. I brought my own polish for my nails. Essie Ballet Slippers. A classic. She tried to get me to put on a brighter color. I kept saying I needed neutral nails for work. She seemed upset at this. She put oil all over my hands instead of lotion. What the heck? Who wants oily, greasy hands? I made her put alcohol on them to get the oil off because it felt disgusting. She was, again disappointed in me. She did a pretty good job on my nails but it's not that hard to do them. I have serious doubts about the cleanliness of this place. I didn't see any autoclaves and the file she tried to use on me was used. No. Just no. What the heck with the cheese grater on my foot? I didn't even need it. A quick pumice would have done it. I really wish I'd either dragged my sorry self in town or waited until I Monday when I work near some great nail salons. I am disappointed. The nail tech was disappointed. I dont even want to give this place a star. My most recent and LAST time there, the tech used one of those buffer things right over the finger I had a hangnail on...eventhough I pointed out that it was there and really hurt. She totally ignored me. She seemed more concerned with freeing up the chair, and getting me out. So a few days later my finger is red and swollen. I went back in there to speak to the owner and show him my finger. I basically just wanted him to acknowledge that something wasnt being done correctly, so he could do what a normal owner would do and remedy the situation with his employees. Nope. Not even close. This guy is a total di*k. He accused me of making the story up! As if I have nothing better to do than conspire against Nails and Spa. He actually got up in my face! I couldnt believe it! He was shouting at me right in front of his customers. He then followed me out of the salon, yelling and angrily gesturing at me. He watched me get into my car and wrote down my license plate number! I have NO idea what he thinks he's going to do with it. I can only imagine that I've been black listed or something, and they'll be on the look out for me. As if I would ever go back. So bizarre! This guy is definately the mayor of crazy town. The moral of the story is- not only did the service completely suck, but the owner is a psycho and should be reported to the police. Theres a nail salon next door that charges the same price, and the people there are actually nice and do a good job. I try to always find the "good" in every place but this time I can't. The shop id decent and the people are really nice but the technique of the manucurist is horrible. I came for a mani/pedi a few months ago and was not impressed or even satisfied. The color was chipping on ALL my nails by two days later. I got a half-ass job done on the manicure, it felt more like $15 job versus a $25. This time however, I got a refill and I requested a simple nail design. I told the gentleman at the desk I wanted to have a nail design and he told me no problem. He then sent me to a manicurist who had no idea how to do nail art. I had to tell her how to make a simple bow (i was trying out a design for a wedding) on my nail. After showing/training her, I can only say she attempted and FAILED miserably. Not only that, it hasn't been a week and my refill looks terrible. It literally looks like I'm overdue for a refill. I needed my nails done in a pinch and from the moment I sat down I knew I wasn't going to be happy. So I am officially saying, I will NOT be coming back to this salon. I went in for a gel manicure, a younger nail technician tore up my cuticles so bad, to the point where I told her "stop it hurts." A week later, my finger was swollen, and side of my cuticle was GREEN. Luckily I went to the ER and they told me I had an infection. GROSS. Clearly this place does not sterilize their utensils, they will no longer be seeing here. GROSS. I did not see the tubs cleaned with any type of cleaning solution. They rinsed and wiped them quickly and carelessly to sit the next client. New pedicure tools were not opened or thrown out after using. Skin peelers were used and not cleaned after use- just placed back in bucket with rest of insanitary tools. As I sat down for manicure I saw skin on tools! I went in for eyebrow wax and drinks were knocked over because the place was in such disorder. Trash was overflowing and for the 1 1/2 I was there I watched multiple staff walk to can and stuff more trash in. I was grossed out and will never return!!!! I am starting with review here and then sending my experience on to board of health. I visited on Mother's Day 2015. read more

I came here because I was in desperate need for a manicure and it was on my way home. I agree with other reviews about TERRIBLE customer service. Mostly, because no one speaks English well here. Every time I spoke to someone, s/he had to ask the person next to him/her for translation. So overall experience was very frustrating. I came here on a Saturday afternoon for a gel manicure. I came in and signed my name and started looking at the colors they have. They have lots of different colors for gel manicures and the place looks clean. So it looked promising. When it was my turn, a lady started removing my previous gel manicure and she was SO rough with my nails. At one point with the electronic file she filed my nail where the polish had already chipped. And yes, it hurt. The woman filled the bowl of water with cold water so that wasn't relaxing. I asked the woman to cut my nails very short but to be careful because I have very uneven nail beds. She attempted to cut my nails very short but was about to clip some skin off so I pulled my hand away saying ouch. I guess she assumed that meant I didn't want my nail cut. So I have an uneven nail. I asked my nails to be cut shorter and she said she would file them down, but they ended up being longer than I liked. She almost forgot to do the top coat of my nails. $25 for a gel manicure removal and new gel manicure. read more

I went to Nails & Spa for YEARS. Literally, biweekly for a mani/pedi ($25) with my best friend. Yes, they do rush you in and out, but my manicure and pedicure was always okay, and overtime you learn who the better nail techs are (because at N&S there are some HORRID ones). Regardless, over the past year or so, I really started to pay attention to the owner (I don't know his name, he's Asian, tan, and has highlighted hair - most often the only man in the salon) and realized how much of a jerk this guy is. Seriously. He watches his parking lot like its gold, and if you park in the lot and DON'T go in his salon, he will have your car towed. Literally. I asked the nail techs why he did this, and they told me that a lot of people park in his lot, then go next door to Fancy Salon. I then made it a point to talk to the nail techs every time I was in there about him. The owner is a jerk. He forces the nail techs to rush you and doesn't give two cents about quality. He cares more about the money coming in, and thats clearly evident based upon his appearance. I'm sorry but I'd rather go to a salon where the owner focuses on customer satisfaction and quality of the work, rather than if his labels on his jeans are visible and the parking lot is patrolled. Not only this - but he lets his friend walk around the salon selling bootleg copies of DVDs that are out in the theaters.. Seriously.. ghetto. I've been going next door to Fancy Salon for about 4 months now. Their prices are EXACTLY the same, and the service is 100x better. Parking is busy for Fancy, but they will valet your car on-the-spot. It's cleaner as well. Save yourself the disgust and just go next door.. read more

Went here for tanning bc Fancy Nails lot was full, horrible mistake!!! I used the stand up and was annoyed by the weak bulbs and burned out bulbs in every panel, not to mention the staff couldn't understand me when I asked how to change time. She cut my finger and I left there with dried blood on the side of my nail and finger. I asked 3 times if she could make 2 nails shorter and she still left 1 so much longer than the others. You get what you pay for. This place is inexpensive and does a decent job on basic mani pedis. I've had gel a couple of times and they do a decent job on that too. The nail techs don't speak English well, if at all, so makes me wonder how they could have possibly passed any test to get a license? It's not the cleanest place. Today the sink in the back room was very dirty. Last time I went the sink was backed up. No one seems to care. Might be time to try a new place....there are lots on the neighborhood. read more
