There are two places I like getting my nails done. This place is one of them, and the other is called Mirage Nails in Rockville, MD. I've been coming here for a while now. It used to have an odd configuration but with the reconstruction, this nail shop is really nice. The service here is very quick. My friends and I walked in for a pedi and we were escorted to these really nice massage chairs in the back. The chairs lean all the way back and you control your own massage settings. The pedicure, itself, was very relaxing. The ladies provided great foot and leg/calf massages. I almost wish they didn't stop. The nail colors are either OPI or Essie. They have a large variety so there's something for everyone. You can also purchase any color you like. The Pedi is 26 dollars, which in my humble opinion, is a pretty good deal. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who's looking to get their nails done beautifully without having to give up an arm and a leg. read more

I recently moved to the area and have been on the hunt for a new nail salon and I think Nail Designs could be a strong contender. It was easy to make an appointment the day of and they even managed to squeeze me in a little early (5:00 appt, arrived at 4:45 and had to wait no longer than 5 minutes). They had a great color selection and the salon seemed relatively clean. Also, I didn't have this done since I got a manicure after my pedicure, but its really nice now they offer to wrap your toes so they don't get messed up if you're leaving shortly after a pedicure. read more

I don't know where to begin, the condition of this restroom is horrendous. You can see that it's all moldy and the dryer vent is right there in the restroom. I don't even think that you suppose to vent it into the restroom. One of the worker say that it's been there for years, they told the owner about it and that's a health issue but they just don't care enough to fix the problem. read more

I wanted to get my nails done and cleaned before Valentine's Day, and found this establishment via Yelp!!! It had good reviews and it was close to work so I tried it out. I'm glad I did! They have a SMALL parking lot but it was packed so I ended up going into the garage..sucks. People park there mostly for Chicken on The Run. sigh. The staff there is friendly, kind, and funny. Unlike my last experiences else where, this place does not rush you unless you ask them to. I was on a time crunch and didn't know they were able to rush but my technician said "if you are rushing, just let us know so we'll get more people working on you"... good to know :) I needed a simple mani/pedi. My technician asked very specifically what I wanted and needed as well as to let her know if something hurts (I asked her to cut my cuticles.) She also gave me suggestions, and tips on keeping my nails healthy and how to prepare them for summer. I didn't notice tool sanitation :(.. I am assuming they were clean. However, I think the salon itself looks clean. So far, I'd go back, and I'd recommend this place to anyone. read more

This was my weekly go to nail salon for more than 5 years. I have recently moved to a different neighborhood and don't visit this salon that frequently any more. That being said, I had a mani and pedi on Saturday afternoon and it was horrible. The technician didn't even clean my cuticles and actually put polish on my straggling cuticles! I also didn't even get a leg or hand massage. Seriously WTH? I had brought my friend with me so I was busy chatting with her to notice the horrible service I received...though I did wonder why it was such a quick service. As mentioned I was a weekly customer at this salon and still know quite a few of the technicians by name and they know me. I don't expect better service because I'm familiar to them, I expect decent service because I'm paying for decent service. I think this salon has gone fast downhill since Amy left (or sold it to Michelle or whatever changed in the management). I don't plan on going back. I must confess Nail Design is my second home! Been coming here for years, and not to mention I've recently moved from Bethesda MD to Alexandria VA, so I find the time to drive there every few weeks! I have explored other salons in the MD to VA area and have not been happy. Must admit I feel like a new women when I leave Nail Design. Most importantly the place meets my standards of cleanliness (I'm a germaphobe), tools are sterilize and packaged, pedicure tubs are scrub down with an antibacterial soap after every pedicure (A+) and overall the staff and owners keeps the place neat and fresh. Also, they sell personal tool kits, I purchased my very own personal mani/pedi kit a few weeks ago (great investment). Love love the huge OPI/Essie/ChinaGlaze nail polish color selection! Michele takes care of all my wax needs, eyebrow, lip,underarm, bikini, and full leg. Michele is gentle and the wax job last longer then normal ones. I call her "magic hands." Lol even with the most sensitive areas I don't feel a pinch of pain. They say "beauty is pain" it's not true with Michele! Also, she great with gel nails! Tammy for my gel-nails! Her job is consistent, long-lasting and I love how she changes up my nail shape (currently have coffin nail shape) with great stylish colors! My manicure last a few weeks with no chipping nor lifting! I get a lot of complements on my nails!! Pedicure by Lynn. She does a great job!! Makes my feet and toes feel happy! Very consistent, gentle and polish last forever! My newest service is Eye Lash extensions by Tuyet! Naturally my lashes are thin and short, and now after one service with Tuyet I have gotten a face-makeover. Seriously, my close girlfriend ask me the other day did I get eyelid surgery. Lol ummm no just individual lash extensions!!! Tuyet's amazing job accentuate my eyes and I love the complements!! The lashes look very natural and simple to maintain! Tuyet is my new BFF! On a whim today after lunch we, my friend and I made an appointment for a mani-pedi for $37. It was first rate;Dee did my friend and Karen took care of me. Very nice foot rub and hand massage. Went for a manicure and pedicure. Pedicure was fine, nothing special and very quick. During the manicure, the tech removed some skin from my cuticle and it started bleeding. A lot. No apology, she just started dabbing this fluid on it. Literally, she was touching the tip of the bottle to my finger. I work in the healthcare and no matter how "antiseptic" this fluid is, it is not okay to touch the tip of a reusable bottle directly into my blood. It kept bleeding and she just kept pouring more fluid on and dabbing it. Finally, I took a tissue and left pressure on it for a few minutes. When it continued to bleed, I asked her for a bandage, and she rolled her eyes. I had to ask repeatedly for a bandage, which she finally brought. I understand that these workers get paid very little. I tipped her very well despite this issue but think the business should know better, on many levels, and should've offered some kind of discount or at least an apology, especially considering I have one finger not painted because, an hour later, it is still bleeding. I have serious reservations about the cleanliness of this salon and the importance they place on infection control. Very unsettling. read more

Went here with two girlfriends based on Yelp reviews and we were so glad we did! It was the first manicure/pedicure for me and one of my friends and the other friend had actually been here before but I suggested it to her before she told me about it! We had so much fun getting pampered. The employees were all patient and nice and though I'm not an expert on mani/pedi prices, it felt affordable. It was $14 for manicure only or $39 for a mani-pedi. I just got the regular mani/pedi and the end product was fantastic! My nails are still looking great one week (including a hectic bridesmaid weekend!) later. A small parking lot is also available outside the salon which is awesome. Free jolly ranchers at the entrance of the salon was also a nice small perk. I will totally come here again! read more

I have been here for a mani pedi about 7 times now: Pros: they're always fast, you can get a mani pedi at the same time and be in and out in an hour, which is a huge pro for me. 6/7 times my SNS manicure has lasted a full two weeks without chipping. Cons: the polishes are so unorganized and the staff aggressively rushes you when you're trying to choose a color. Forget trying to match a regular pedi color to your SNS mani color or gel color because there is no system to find a matching color and they don't care to help you find it either. Last time I was there, the manicurist filed down my nails so much, they still hurt one week later and two of them chipped the next day. read more

Nancy and Hai are a great mother-son team. Nail Design is very clean, and they really spend time making sure you are satisfied with their work. They also give you a great hand/foot massage as part of the mani/pedi. I must note that I've only had Nancy or Hai work on my manipedi's so I can't speak about others. Although I was there when Nancy was interviewing a potential nail technician, and she seemed to really be concerned that anyone they hire continues to provide high levels of service. I have been going to this place for a while but I am rethinking it. Most manicurists are very capable but not very nice and one of them in particular is very disrespectful towards customers and the salon itself. I was very disturbed by what I have noticed this young woman do more than one time. The young lady who did my nails last timehas reddish colored hair and is seated in the middle in the second row from the door. I do not know her name. When a customer walked in the salon she looked at her, turned towards her colleagues and started laughing and visibly making disrespectful remarks in Vietnamese. This reminded me of Seinfeld. The owner should remind this woman and the other people working there what professionalism means and that their finances and the reputation of the salon depend on how customers are treated. I do hope that the owner or manager watches this girl and, if she does not change her attitude, she should be fired. Hello, This past week I decided to give the salon another chance although, when I called, I definitely made sure I would get anyone BUT the lady with red, shoulder-length hair. I am completely disappointed with the pedicure service that I received. After reading some positive reviews, I decided to give it a try. I feel like the entire "pedicure " was rushed! My feet spent a total of 7 min in the water and the entire nail maintenance (cuticle push, nail trim and file) was completed in about 3 min. My feet were barely scrubbed with the pumice bar. To top it off, my massage chair wasn't working and there was a young man completing a DIY clock project on the wall next to me. I did not appreciate the intermittent banging of the hammer during my "spa" experience. I expected much better for the location and price. I could not in good faith recommend this place to anyone. I've read so many positive feed back of this place. I flew in from Fort Lauderdale and due to the hurricane I was not able to attend to my feet. Coming to D.C. For the weekend to spend time with the MAN. We decided to take time out and get my feet done. I've read so many negative reviews regarding Coco, the nail technician. My visit was ok! Yes, she moves fast and not being able to allow the client to appreciate the time that was taken out to pamper one self. Not once did she assist in placing the temporary flip flops on or even suggesting to put my shoes on before she polished my feet. There's room for growth. Would I return, perhaps not.. Although, Andy was very pleasant and greeted both of us upon our entry, only a 5 minute wait and was able to assist us both to getting pedi's done in the private room with a window view of outside. I came here for the first time 2 weeks ago to get the powder manicure. I had never done it before. I had to wait longer to get powder, but I honestly liked that because it ensured me that I was going to be put with a tech who knew how to do it well. Its been 2 weeks and my nails are still PERFECT. My friend and I went in for pedicures. Very rushed and not at all thorough. From the time we sat down to the time of the final coat of paint was about 20 minutes. No scrubbing, no clipping. Nothing. Sat in the water for maybe 2 minutes and they were letting the water out before we even realized the experience was over. Basically a glorified polishing. Upon the conclusion of this "pedicure", I felt the bottom of my feet and they were as rough as when I came in. When I gestured to the lady about the issue, she said it was due to a lack of moisturizing and it needed to be scrubbed off. DUH. That's why I came in here and asked for a pedicure. I assumed that the scrubbing was common sense and included with a pedicure since I paid $50 total for it. My friends was only $35 since she didn't get gel but she was equally dissatisfied and both our feet looked like we had just polished over them. Still rough, still dry, toenails still uneven, no sign of a pedicure at all. I was weary about trying it out because of the outward look of it and told my friend we should look a little further but she encouraged me to give them a chance. So every grown woman I know in Bethesda goes to Nail Designs, and as I grew up in Bethesda and have childhood friends who have become Bethesda Women (ick) and my mom has lots of fairly high maintenance friends.. let's just say that's a lot of demanding women. Personally, I get my nails done twice a year-- whether I need to or not-- because I feel like a complete jackass having another human being dremel my feet and buff my fingers. That being said, whenever I go to Nail Designs I come away looking fan-tab-u-lous and wondering why I can't just get with the program and be girly. The place is constantly packed-- there are 6+ massage chairs for pedis and even more mani stations- so call for an appointment if you can. The ladies there take their time, shape your nails the way you like them, and do the whole massage thing so you come out feeling gooooooooood. They're also very, very sterile-- with fresh tools for each client that are previously sterilized as well as doused in alcohol at the start of the session. If you're a regular you can have your own little box with your name on it and your own tools, although I think that kinda takes your rich bitch quotient to a whole new level. My mom, who gets ingrown toenails, swears that they do a better job on her feet than her podiatrist did, so now she goes there every other week for a pedi and hasn't had foot problems in years. When I do go my mani/pedi always seems to last for weeks, which rocks. They also do chair massage and waxing, but having not tried those services out, I won't comment. It's $35+tip for a mani/pedi, which makes ND expensive if it were in the Bay Area but sort of standard for DC. They are about a 5-7 minute walk down Old G-town Road from Metro, have a small shared parking lot out front and are right near the large St. Elmo's public lot. read more

This place was great. I had called other nail salons looking for 5 appointments at the same time for part of a bachelorette party. They were the only ones that were able to have 5 appointments at the same time which was great. We were all able to sit and chat and relax. I don't remember the name of the person who did my nails but she was great. She asked for my input on how I wanted my nails. She also took her time and when she saw a slight bubble or bump she went back to fix it. We all had a great experience. I will definitely be back to get my nails done again! read more

I came here yesterday. It was good salon with a nice enviornment. They always seem pretty busy. I had good service, but I did run across two problems. One, I do not like the surprise of the unknown, there is no price listing any where in the store. Two, when I searched on yelp for inexpensive, this nail salon came up & it had good reviews. Literally thought it was too good to be true. By the time I paid, there was nothing inexpensive about it. Their service prices are average & are equivalent to other nail salons. In a way I find their Yelp page misleading. Great service, they are good for the money, but they are definitely not inexpensive. Their prices are the same as any other nail salon. So I find this nail salon note worthy of average stars, because nothing really sets them apart from all the other salons. read more

Though new to Yelp, I've frequented Nail Design for the past 14 years - even when living out of town, manicure, pedicure, and bikini wax at Nail Design were always on my to-do list while home. From day before prob to day before wedding, Nail Design delivers. Extremely fair prices (bring cash!): one of the last places where your bikini wax won't cost more than your gym membership! Appointments: Call for appointment but you'll likely have luck as walk in. Parking: There are a few free spots right in front, metered parking on street, and above ground lot directly to the left... also not far from Bethesda Metro. I noticed some reviewers complained they rush. In response, don't go to Nail Design if you want to slip into a robe and sit in the relaxation room. Do go to Nail Design if you are game for a fast and and flawless job, which is likely the case on way home from work or on weekend with lengthy to-do list and other plans. I went here yesterday for a dip dye, and walked out with bumpy, smudgy nails. Now I feel terrible for writing this, and eight out of my ten nails look pretty good, but the other two-unacceptable. I pointed out during the manicure that one of my nailed looked a little bumpy, uneven if you will. To be 100% honest this was my first dip manicure, I usually only get gels. But I've seen a lot of Facebook posts so I wanted in. So I said very little assuming it would just, work out. That one did. That one bump did. My left hand is basically the disaster. The thumb looked a little 'light on the dip' when the top coat was going on and it wound up, yep, finishing looking f@cked up. My ring finger and pinky are also a little light...when I say light it's because dip dyes are polish they're like, sand/dirt, so if the dust doesn't stick it blows off. Lots of empty space of unevenness covered by marred topcoat. I paid $45. That's more than any gel. This is overlooking the fact that I was ignored the second a pedicure party walked in, never offered wine or any holiday cookies. I'm going to have to redo them myself. I'm not happy. read more

I'm a fan of the low prices. You can't beat a mani/pedi for under $40. They try to have a fast turn around so you will be hurried along, but the women know what they are doing so the paint job is good. The massage chair I sat in during my pedi was not great, only 1 massage mode worked - but then again, I'm not paying high prices so I don't expect a spa experience.
