I've gone twice for pedicures and would go again. The regular pedicure is $32 when you pay cash - not bad for Bethesda. I had a great impromptu pedicure experience at Sandy Nails yesterday. My best friend and I decided to get our nails done together last minute and we had a wonderful time together. The salon is pretty spacious once you step inside. The parking garage is right around the corner. It's free on the weekends. The waiting time was minimal and my nail technician was very efficient. The whole thing was done in less than 30 minutes. My feet felt and looked so much better so QUICKLY. It was mind blowing. You know what else was mind blowing too at this day and age? The pedicure here is only $32 plus tips! That's right! This place is in the middle of downtown Bethesda and only charges $32 for tips!! Unreal steal!! Sure the salon interior might look a bit dated but the chairs have good massage and the technicians are wonderful. I have zero complaints! Looking forward to returning again in the future! read more

I have been a client of Sandy Nails for well over 10 years. That says it all! Still, i will elaborate. Sandy Nails is owned and managed incredibly well by Peter T. And his wife, Anna. They keep the salon clean and up to date on all kinds of nail procedures. My personal nail tech who tends to my weekly manicures and monthly pedicures is Maika and, of course, i highly recommend her. Honestly, you can't go wrong with any of the well-trained, experienced technicians at Sandy Nails. My daughter resides in California and whenever she visits "home", she looks forward to a mani-pedi with Amanda. I will NEVER return. First time I have been here and I came for eyebrows. First of all, the whole place smells weird. And not even like a nail salon. Second of all, I got my eyebrows done and SHE RIPPED MY SKIN OFF WOTH THE WAX! There are two sections, one larger than the other and it burns, even with water. Also, she used scissors instead of tweezing, never seen that either. I have never ever had this happen to me at any salon I have been to, across the country. I have never left a negative review for any business in my life, but this experience was so bad I had to create a Yelp account. I have been going to Sandy Nails since 2017 considered it the best nail salon in Bethesda. Ownership recently changed and it wasn't what it was, but it was OK. Pedicure was mediocre, but dip manicure was terrible. Problem started when I questioned if the color she was using matched the color I had chosen. It wasn't and then the technician got an attitude, owner tried to convince me it was a "better" color, and instructed her to blend two colors in an attempt to correct it. I didn't have time to start over so I resigned myself to live with the color. Technician proceeded to take another client while my nails were drying, refused to wash off the chemicals leftover from my removing my previous dip manicure - no hand massage, no cuticle trim, nothing. When I asked her about how to get my hands clean she rudely told me to wash them off myself - and there was no hot water to even get chemicals off. Photo shows my hands after a $45+ manicure. Yelp - please implement a 0 star rating! It was a horrible experience. Settle in for this one. I live and work near Bethesda. I usually go to L'Avee Nail Spa at lunchtime, and I like it. My 8 year old daughter wanted to have a pedi with me. I was excited to see Sandy Nails had chairs for kids, and it was highly rated. My daughter was ridiculously excited for her first pedi with mommy! We arrived and were essentially ordered to the back of the store. The chairs for kids were cute. First, her pedi. They dipped her foot in water without having them soak or use the foot bath/ Jacuzzi foot feature, pulled her feet out, quickly cut her toenails and painted. It would have been less than 10 minutes, but she was looking forward to the foot massage because I had been saying that is the best part of the pedi. They barked at me that the massage is a dollar a minute. I said fine, do five minutes. Meanwhile my daughter is watching everything they're doing for me and disappointed they weren't doing the same for her. Oh and to keep her toes apart, she tore off a piece of paper towel that was dirty (had other nail polish colors on it) and weaved it around her toes. Now to my pedi. Also rushed. This was a first - my foot was dipped into hot water, pulled out immediately, and the scrubbing of my heels began. I have never had my heels exfoliated BEFORE my feet had soaked. Water was drained almost immediately. Toenails were cut and filed so poorly that they were jagged. I had to file again at home. We both ended up with a lot of nail polish on our skin. And I'm sitting here with gross, rough heels. From the other reviews I've read - Mindy strikes again. She was awful. Ditto for the front desk staff and the woman who did my daughter's nails. I'm really disappointed that I have to write this review, because I have had good experiences at Sandy's in the past. This past Friday was enough for me to no longer return. I walked in on Friday 5/17 around 12:30 and it was busy (not anyone's fault). I asked if I could get in for a standard mani/pedi and an eyebrow wax. I was told I could be seen and only waited a couple minutes, picked out a nail color for both my toes/fingers, and was sent back to a waxing room. Luca, the woman who worked on me, was very rough and to be honest, quite rude. I just finished up six weeks of physical therapy on my neck due to an auto accident and she jerked my head all around whenever she needed me to move. Even without my injury it would have been painful. The only plus was that my brows turned out decent. On to the mani/pedi. I sat down, set my phone on the tray attached to my chair (promise this is relevant info for later), and then put my feet in the foot bath. The water was on the cold side and I was not asked if the temperature was all right. Since it wasn't scalding me I let it slide. Once Luca was ready to work on my toes is where it gets really painful. I have never had anyone be so rough while doing a pedicure in my entire life. She dug so deeply and cut so much cuticle off that they were sore and swollen for over a day afterward. The paint job on my toes was mediocre at best. When it was time for my manicure, she had the gall to tell me that I could not use the color I picked out, a neon-ish orchid, because that color is for "children." She proceeded to pick out another color for me as I sat there dumbfounded. I didn't realize I was paying to be shamed for my color choices but ok. She was very aggressive, I was on limited time, so I didn't say much when she came back. She then had me soak my fingers in liquid that actually was scalding and I had to ask her to cool it down, to which she seemed rather put out. Again, she was super rough on my fingers and the paint job was even worse than on my toes. I think what really was the straw that broke the camel's back was when the gentleman employee (not Trang, I've seen him before and he is lovely) put his customer in the seat next to mine he huffily told me mid-manicure that the tray attached to my chair was hindering him from putting the tray up on his customer's chair. I really don't see how that's my problem, as I was there first. I told him that there wasn't much I could do, considering my nails were wet, so he slammed down this lady's drink on my tray and splashed liquid all over my phone. And even after all that Luca had the absolute nerve to tell me that maybe I should have stopped by mid-week because it's not as crowded. Look, lady. I work a 9-5, a job that I work very hard at, I had the day off, my commencement celebration for my master's degree was that evening, I wanted to look nice, and this was the time I had to come in. I also have two children and that limits my time even more. If I was inconveniencing anyone they should have said they didn't have a slot available and I would have gone elsewhere and not held it against them. In short, I will never go back to Sandy Nails again. You might want to have a talk with Luca and the other gentleman you employ about how to treat customers. I don't expect a red carpet to be rolled out when I ask if there is space for a walk-in appointment but I do expect to be treated with basic courtesy. Yesterday both my husband and I had pedi and mani the following is the list that was left in an incomplete state. -nails with razor sharp edges not smoothed off -skin on feet left jagged where it snagged blankets at bed time -skin on cuticles that were partiality trimmed and left with large uneven bumps of skin on the finger beds This situation has taught my man that there is a difference between a mani and pedi at a "nail salon" and a spa such as The Wood House or the Red Door. I made an appointment for a mani pedi and modified my day around the time slot they gave me. I showed up for a 4:30 appointment and they had two walk ins who arrived moments before me and were seated right away. I waited for 20 minutes until they put me in a chair, another 10 before I got a technician. The color I chose from their selection (Opi brand) turned out to be gloopy and thick -- clearly at the dregs of the bottle. I asked if I could pick another color that was a better quality and was told there was no time. Bonus! They charged me full price for uneven application. There are so many nail salons in Bethesda. I've been going here since 2002. I have always had a great experience. Staff is professional, the procedures are done with perfect attention to detail. Every one is very kind and thoughtful. They run like clockwork so you should make an appointment. They still try to accommodate walk ins though. The only negative thing I've ever observed are a few rude, entitled customers (who were treated with undeserved politeness.). I loved my first experience at Sandy's! They took me in early and had me in and out quickly. The salon is very clean and you can tell they care about their clients. I went to this salon for a dip powder manicure, and had an awful experience. First, they would not let me see a selection of colors, they asked what color I was thinking and gave me two options to choose from. Second, the nail tech did a terrible job shaping my nails. Almost all of them are crooked, and I had to re-file them at home. Third the nail tech was extremely rough. She kept hitting my skin with the electric sander and was very obviously not being careful, so I left raw skin on most of my fingers. Fourth, an item she was using fell on the floor and she picked it up and continued using it on my hands. Fifth, she didn't even have me wash my hands before putting lotion, which is standard practice after a dip manicure. Will never be going back here. read more

My sister recently got mauled during a boyfriend-bought brazilian at a fancy salon in Georgetown -- I have NEVER had a problem here; the girls are all business. Mani or pedi? Pick a color and take your seat! Depending on your mood your technician will make conversation or not, and I love the little drying fans at the end. You're probably thinking, oh, Bethesda nail salon, it probably costs an arm and a spleen. Not so! A bikini wax or a french manicure will run you $20, which is the best pricing I have seen anywhere. The only complaint I have is they don't offer to nibble your feet... via fish, of course. I told Kevin L. we need to have a group visit to Yvonne Salon in Alexandria for that. Useful rating alert! Got my nails done here once and hated it. First the removal of my dip was absolutely messy and unlike other places where they wrap the finger in foil, a much cleaner technique. I wasn't given much choices for colors and then apparently they don't know how to mix colors to make a hot pink a little lighter. The guy who did my nails just did a terrible job there were brush marks making it look like old polish and the color turned yellow within a week. Essentially it was literally the worst nail job I have ever had done. I don't know if it's because I came much later in the day or the man who did my nails just sucked. Description: These guys spent a long time on the "pre-polish" part of my pedicure... lots of cuticle trimming and a nice foot massage. Particularly when they are not busy-- try Tues, Wed, Thurs evenings for great service. *Usually when I come in here, the technicians will open a new, sanitized package of tools to use on my feet, which I like. However, the battery-charged nail filer (that is sometimes used to smooth the bed of an uneven toenail) that I saw them using on my mom's toenails is not even wiped before it is used between clients. Also, the pumice stone used to scrub away skin on heels has obviously been used before with other clients, but I do not know how and if they clean it. read more

I have been going to Sandy Nails for over 10 years. Their prices are good for this area. I usually get a manicure and pedicure. They have great spa services also, waxing legs, under arms and brazilian bikini waxes. I also get an eyebrow wax. I love their massages. And the husband & wife owners are very thoughtful and kind. The wife goes to great legnths to make you feel OK about getting a massage with a large body,and scars from several operations; I really appreciate it. They work 6 and 7 day weeks. I've been coming here for several years to get my eyebrows waxed or get my nails done. A few friends of mine are loyalists. I never was a huge fan of manis/pedis but have grown to enjoy the social aspect of girls' time and have enjoyed many afternoons in the company of great friends getting our nails done. It's your typical Vietnamese-run nail salon that's packed all day every day. One thing this salon offers that's unique is child-sized chairs (and flip flops) for the many young girls who are treated to an afternoon with their moms and grandmas. It's rather cute, really. A great selection of colors to choose from. Good prices. Plenty of parking at the garage nearby -- and a big sign on the door to remind you not to park in the lot next door where you might get towed. In and out in under an hour, no problem. Chairs that massage you while you get your pedicure -- awesome. Brought my friend here to get her nails done for her wedding. She got gel which is the way to go because her French manicure outlasted mine. Still, I'm pretty happy with the results each time I come here and always feel pampered. Love my French manicure each time I get it, and love the special attention given to any ingrown nails or other issues you might have. There is a reason why you see regulars in here all the time. I went to Sandy Nails over the weekend for the first time on recommendation from a friend, and boy did she send me to the right place! I can only speak to their waxing services personally, but as far as I could tell everything they were doing seemed to be of equally high quality to the waxing. The space is brightly lit and inviting, everything I experienced was very clean and comfortable, and they have a good amount of room for accommodating big rushes of people. The waxing rooms are well-lit, too, which I think is really important because I would rather have a well-executed wax than atmosphere and dozens of leftover hairs. Scheduling is really a breeze and they have great hours. The woman who did my wax was truly a champ. For a fairly tricky area, I was in and out of there in 20 minutes with a virtually perfect wax. She not only made the job quick and relatively painless, but also took the time to tweeze any strays. She was very professional and worked efficiently to make sure that she gave me the best services possible. At no point did I feel uncomfortable at all, and she checked in with me several times to make sure of that. On top of all of this, in spite of being right in the heart of Bethesda their prices are incredibly reasonable. Waxes range from around $15-$35 depending on what you're getting done. The only major drawback is that they do only take cash, but as long as you come in prepared for that it's no big deal. Luckily, I checked in here first so I did know that in advance. I have gotten far worse service for a much greater expense in other places, and it's kind of sad to think about. I should have been coming here all along! Walked in to Sandy Nails on a Sunday wanting to remove the acrylic on my nails so I could start wearing my natural nails. I asked if anyone had time to see me right away, as I had plans for the day. The receptionist insisted that they had time to do what I asked so I was quickly put into a chair. She put my fingers in a bowl of acetone to soak the acrylic off and thats where it all went wrong. I have been through this process numerous times and it does not take over an hour to soak off! She got so caught up with doing her duties as a receptionist (answering phones, stocking shelves, etc.) that my fingers were literally resting in a bowl for an hour in 7 minutes (yes I timed it). She would come back now and then to check on me but would quickly stop when someone would walk in. What made this even more upsetting is that two women came in after me and were seen right away by other nail technicians, and were in an out in under an hour. I spent 2 and a half hours total in that salon, which is absurd. No one apologized to me, even after I mentioned that I thought it took too long. I appreciate when employees at nail salons are honest, as it gives me a fair opportunity to decide if I want to stay or try to go somewhere else. The receptionist knew that no one was available to see me but instead put me in a position to wait for hours, and I obviously couldn't leave with gritty acrylic still on my nails. read more

I came in with pretty good expectations since I have friends who come get their nails done here regularly. Overall, the service was pretty good, I'm just unhappy with how my manicure turned out. Firstly, the French manicure costs more than a regular one, and I don't understand why since there's hardly any nail polish being used. There's significantly less being used as there's no nude coat and then white tips, it's just white polish and a top coat. Second, no less than 6 hours after I had gotten my nails done, two of the nails had chipped (and one of them was a pretty good chunk too). I can't imagine why they would chip this easily, this has never happened to me before. Usually my nails will last a week or so before they start to chip. I've had manicures at other places, including spas and expensive ones, and I still have not had as good a manicure as those from Sandy's Nails. I've been to a ton of nail places around the area, and Sandy Nails has consistently been the best. They're not a luxury spa, but they provide excellent manicures and pedicures as well as waxing services. Mani/pedis: They're gentle, and will ease up on the scrubbing if you're ticklish. The polish is always very well done, pedicures last for weeks before chipping and fading. Waxing: Good eyebrow waxing, I especially like that they don't try to take my brows pencil thin. I have thick eyebrows which I quite like, and they do a great job of shaping them and cleaning them up without trying to thin them out. I love that they always have plenty of staff scheduled, I have rarely had to wait more than 5 minutes for a pedicure, and never have had to wait for a manicure or a wax. Bad pedicure. Overzealous with the buffer left me with a cut on my big toe and so much digging around the toes it resulted in bleeding has likely left an infection. It is very red and swollen three days later. read more
