Where she took a chunk of my skin off in the corner.
    shaela s.

I was recommended to have Ke do my nails. I was excited to have a pedicure and manicure since I haven't had one in months because of Shelter-In-Place. Well, I am really really disappointed in my pedicure and manicure. First, she cut a chunk of my skin on my big toe which hurts very bad and I can't wear a closed shoe(pic included). I didn't realize how bad it was until the next day when it was so sore. You can see where it was bleeding in the corner. Secondly, she did not scrub my feet well. I still have so much extra dry skin. I do understand that a nail tech can't take every little thing off but I have been getting my nails and feet done for over 20 years, and they have never came out like this. I'm being honest. Pic included. Thirdly, the polish was done super poorly. Her polish was very thin and looked cheap. Not sure if it was or not. But it literally bubbled up when it dried. My manicure was ok but she filed my nails crooked and not oval like I asked. I definitely did not get what I paid for. A family member had her services as well and was very disappointed. She even brought a broken machine with her and couldn't do the proper services that was asked, which was a gel manicure. I never make negative reviews and I was really counting on her to be good. But, unfortunately it just wasn't. And I would have had her try to correct it but I knew it wouldn't have made any difference. I paid a lot for these services and I'm unsatisfied. There was also a money mishap and she was not empathetic to that issue either.

Please teach the receptionist some manners. It's costing you customers and that's unfortunate seeing that I live in the area.

I booked the 9am and got there about 8:25, which gave me time to get oriented/tour facility and do a soak to prep. The reviews were accurate. I glad I was solo, made it easier being comfortable being nude. Lots of amenities to glam up before leaving. It was calm and quiet when I arrived, and got busier as I was leaving. Staff was great, and made me feel comfortable and welcomed. They explained everything and answered questions with a smile. The place was super clean and staff actively removed used towels/swept throughout my stay. A good scrub, felt like a symboloc ritual for shedding the old for the new. I now have baby soft skin!

Actual rating: 3 1/2 stars…read more Women only spa by appointment only. Day passes available but only the day of if there happen to be cancellations. Otherwise, you'll need to book a service at least a month in advance. It's situated in Japantown. If you're driving, I recommend parking in the garage as street parking is either by permit and limited to two hours. They kindly pushed our scrub time to later since one of our party members was running a bit behind. This is the first Korean place I've been to where they requested you come an hour earlier versus thirty minutes. Seemed like a long time to soak. There's also no clock inside the actual bathing area, so difficult to keep track of time. Also, first time going to a Korean spa where they want it to be absolutely silent. I get that they are going for a relaxed environment, but kind of difficult to just soak for an hour and not chit chat amongst ourselves. The shower/soaking area is on the smaller side and for some reason, they didn't have any stools for the sitting bathing areas available. There's one hot tub, one ice tub, a dry sauna, and steam sauna. This would have been more of a three-star experience for me if not for the scrub. My ahjumma, Lee, was great; very attentive and did a very thorough job! Not mentioned in the list of services, but they also wash your hair and face as well as part of the thirty-minute scrub. After our scrub, we headed upstairs to try out the Himalayan salt room and the red clay room. They had staff cleaning throughout so they definitely take cleanliness seriously. Locker room area has lots of Aveda product toiletries and blow dryers available for after. As we were leaving, they gave a face and eye mask which was much appreciated. I can see this being a go-to place if you live in the city, especially if you prioritize relaxation and cleanliness. Just be sure to make an appointment ahead of time.

That was probably one of the best things about this place besides, they're overall ambience and calm environment. It is also very clean here. I've been to a couple of other places, but this is my regular spot. If for any other reason, I just wanna get like a touchup I would definitely come here and pay the higher price point and get professional service here instead of going somewhere else and paying less but getting subpar service. They also give you numbing spray which is super helpful and other great tips to minimize hair grow growth. Totally worth it and highly recommended!

I visited Cocoon Day Spa in Rockridge for a model lash lift service and it was a great experience…read more I believe the aesthetician was Susannah and she was training someone new (although I forgot their name unfortunately). The service was thorough and I thought they took their time to make sure my lashes looked nice. I will say I did expect a little more information on the different steps during the service or some aftercare instructions. Regardless, I was happy with my lash lift and the results were better than expected. While I have visited this spa for occasional massages and facials in the past, I'd consider returning for lash services in the future. Customer service was friendly and attentive and the spa is cozy and modern. The check in and check out process was easy and efficient. The location is convenient and easy to find. There is street parking available but this can vary depending on when you go. Alternatively, you can also park on a nearby street and walk over. Overall, a solid spa with plenty of services and spa treatments. Worth visiting if you're nearby.

Nobody asked for a Kabuki vs OnsenSF comparison, but here…read moreyou go. 1. $$$ Price Kabuki is $49/pp 2.5 hrs OnsenSF in the tenderloin is $50/pp 2 hours 2. Environment & Ambience: Kabuki has a much wider space, calming music, great ambience, wonderful smells and decor. OnsenSF is a dining space when you enter and spa in the back. Everything looks modern and nice, relaxing environment despite being located in the tenderloin. 3. Hot Tub: Kabuki has a rectangle shaped hot tub as opposed to OnsenSF's square shaped tub. 4. Cold plunge: Kabuki has a cold plunge that's perfect for people who don't need it to be extremely freezing. OnsenSF has a cold shower with many heads in place of a cold plunge. Both are enjoyable experiences 5. Steam Room: Kabuki's steam room is also rectangular as opposed to OnsenSF's square room. Kabuki's steam room also has a shower to rinse off excess salt and sweat before entering the common area. 6. Showers: At Kabuki, there's also a line of stools for the seated handheld showers where you can fill a tub of water and pour it over yourself in addition to the traditional shower stalls, where OnsenSF only has the traditional showers if I recall correctly. 7. Sauna: The sauna was great because you could adjust the heat by moving up the wooden bleachers. There was also plenty of space to stretch out and lie down. There were wooden half-cylinder blocks to place under the neck and back to promote blood flow. My partner's favorite standout was the salt scrub they have that's free to take at the refreshments table. You use it to scrub away dead skin in the shower and steam room. My favorite was the bowl of towels buried in ice cubes that helped me keep a cool head in the hot tub and sauna room. I will say that the thing that makes OnsenSF stand out is their dining pop-ups, but there's plenty of dining options on Fillmore and in Japantown. I would definitely go back to Kabuki again. The experience was incredibly relaxing. Highly recommend.

Possibly the best bathhouse in the Bay Area…read more Kabuki Springs is tucked away off a busy street in Japantown and feels like a portal to another dimension, one full of warm water, a quiet atmosphere, and plenty of lemon ginger tea. I was instantly drawn to how intentional everything feels here, from the dark wood of the sauna to the sleek tile in the showers. It feels carefully crafted to be both modern and timeless, with the Japanese motif flowing through all of the design. Personally, I love the dim lighting in the baths; with no windows, it feels like time is suspended. Is it midday, or midnight? Sunny, stormy? Early, late? You can't really tell when you're there, and that feels like the point. It's an escape in its truest, most relaxing sense. Attendants are constant in the baths, which makes it feel far more luxurious than what the price would suggest. Cucumber, lemon, or plain water are all on tap, as are iced hand towels, salt scrubs for the steam room, and hot lemon ginger tea. I loved how cups are encouraged to be reused (I hate seeing the giant pile of single-use cups in the trash at other spas). I'm holding out hope, however, that traditional green tea may make an appearance in the future! I'd recommend attending on one of the single-gender days, as I found that lent itself best to the fully immersive experience. Shower sandals are available, though I found them a bit uncomfortable. Next time I'll be sure to bring my own. As a bathhouse enthusiast, I cannot recommend this place enough. I can't wait to bring my friends here to learn for themselves just how relaxing and rejuvenating the sauna, steam, soak, and plunge rotation can be.
