    Egg sando
    Liz C.

Found Nakama via Instagram which was a pleasant surprise as I've been looking for a good Japanese sando place. As of now - you order through their order form (link on their Instagram bio) on Mondays at 10:00 AM. Afterwards, you'll get a text confirmation with details on how to pick up. Right now, pick up is either on Saturday or Sunday. You can then pay via Venmo. I ordered promptly at 10 AM and then got my confirmation. We followed instructions and then waited in the car for our order to come to us. Super friendly! We brought them home and got to devouring right away. -Tonkatsu sando: hands down our favorite. The bread is so fluffy and airy, and the tonkatsu is seasoned, juicy on the inside, crispy on the outside. So incredibly flavorful and delicious! -Egg sando: probably by far the best egg sando sandwich we've ever had. Very creamy. However, it did feel like something was missing (like a little oomph or something). -Strawberry sando: end with this as dessert and you won't regret it. Perfectly made whipped cream that is light and not too sweet. Pairs perfectly with the plump and sweet strawberries on the inside and that perfectly fluffy bread. Overall - would definitely return and try again!

Small business that makes Japanese Konbini Style Sandos. They use milk bread and good portions of ingredients. Two of us were completely full after just eating one sando. Very thick! HONESTLY... The best Tamago Sando I have ever had! It was so creamy and custard-like. The texture was incredible! I would definitely order this again. The Ebi Katsu Sando was decent! It had a very potent smell that was lingering in my car for a while unfortunately... The flavor was pretty great though! Fresh thinly sliced cabbage and crispy katsu. The patty was quite thick. The sauce was creamy and had a mustard flavor to it. Pretty tasty~

You can stay updated with their business through their Instagram (@NakamaSJ)! The presentation of the sandwiches is so pretty! The packaging is minimal but very pleasing. My group ordered the Torikatsu, Tamago, and Strawberries and Cream Sandos. - Tamago ($10): This was so creamy and the egg yolks were custardy. I liked how there was a bit of seasoning on top to add more flavor. It was good for the first few bites but then I got tired of eating it. - Torikatsu ($16): This was so flavorful! The chicken was crispy and juicy and the mustard mayo gave it a pickled taste. The house sauce also balanced out the pickled taste. This is best eaten right away since the breading and milk bread can get soggy. I just put mines back in the air fryer and it tasted good! - Strawberries and Cream ($10): This one was a pretty basic and easy sandwich to eat! There was nothing tooo special but their bread was very fluffy and the strawberries were sweet! FYI: These sandwiches are pretty dense/heavy meals since there's a lot of bread. We were so full from the sandwiches that we barely had dinner!

I had to try 2 times before I was able to get my order in and I'm glad I did! Bread is soft and delicious. Ebi katsu: good and huge! Really good flavors. This bread was a little toasted and best eaten asap! Strawberry and cream: our absolute favorite! The cream was delicious that I honestly would've loved just the bread and cream. Strawberries were fresh. Tamago: good, but I wish it was a little more creamy. Definitely the best egg sandos in the area, so I'll definitely get it again.

I came across this place from one of their instagram posts being shown on my feed! I was curious to try it out, since I never had Japanese sandos before. I got the Torikatsu Sando ($14) & the Strawberry Sando ($10). These two were very tasty, and the mustard mayo gives it a unique taste to the overall sandwich. The chicken was crispy and tender, and it really filled up me for lunch. I also didn't expect this to be this big, so I share it with my family, which they all enjoy :) As for the strawberry sando, the strawberry was really sweet and pairs well with the cream and bread. Perfect for dessert!

Searching for visually appealing food then please add this to the list. Japanese sandos have been on our must try list but there are not many places in the Bay Area that do it. Surprising right, to be restauranters here's a free tip and probably a ready instagram foodie market. Now this place is exclusive and have to get your order in by 10 am. The send you an invoice to pay via any of the apps. Once you get your foot in the door then there is some room for changes. The sandwiches stay for a few hours and so great for picnics and small parties. They do cost a bit and so it can quickly add. The tamago egg sando wil require something else to fill your appetite. The meat ones are probably more filling. You may need to add some spice if you like food on the spicier side. Definitely something to try to get over the visual cravings.

Just an update to my experience the business has offered a satisfactory resolution for me I wish more businesses would take their lead and also do this. taking accountability and working with their customers this has given me hope and the heart to try to eat this vendor again

The perfect picnic food! Found them randomly on IG (nakamasj) They take preorders every Monday unless otherwise stated for Saturday and Sunday pickup. Their order form is on their IG bio and opens up at 10am. I clicked at like 10:10am and half the sandos already sold out so you gotta get your order in quick! I got 2 different sandos. Cant wait to try more in the future Torikatsu (chicken thigh) 5/5: soo good the chicken was perfectly cooked, crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside. The slaw complimented perfectly and the mustard(?) gave it a nice kick as well. Would def get this again! Menchi (hamburger like meat) 4.5/5: Wasnt sure if I would like this but it was pretty good. Def well seasoned and crispy.

BEEN WAITING TO TRY THESE SANDOS!

Review for my visit on 1/15/2023 FYI NOT A PHYSICAL RESTAURANT NOR IS IT A WALK IN PREORDER REQUIRED! To start off Nakama is a Japanese Konbini Style Sandos concept. I've been waiting to try Nakama since 2022 and I finally had the chance and time to secure my order. So on Monday at 10am you go onto their instagram and follow the link to their form and you add everything you want to your cart choose either saturday or sunday pick up a time then you hit checkout! Once you check out he will reach out via email with your receipt and ask you to submit your payment on Venmo which is tagged on the email. From there Dan will personally text you and confirm your order and time for pick up. On the day of pick up you follow his instructions and arrive at the location he shared and text him when you arrive and he will have your stuff bagged and ready for you. So lets talk about how his sandos are because I ordered one of everything except for his strawberry sando, but he gave me it on the house to try so very much appreciated Dan! Tonkatsu (Pork) Sando $16: I've had my fair share of tonkatsu's in my days and I gotta say Dan has done an amazing job, im UNSURE how he gets his pork so tender but there is no resistance to each bite, but there is still a bit of a chew. If you press down on the meat you see this bouncy response and the pork glistens some nice juice. I wonder if he sous vide his meat before he breads it up and deep fries it? Who knows! I really love how he sparingly uses that tonkatsu sauce (Brown sauce inside) because it can become a bit too tangy or overpowering, he really gives the protein a chance to shine in unison with the milk bread and cabbage. I overall give his tonkatsu a 4/5 stars. Its not the best I've ever had in my life, but it definitely is solid for The Bay Area. Ebi-katsu (Prawn) Sando $16: What I can say is if you LOVE shrimp/prawns, this has the shrimpiest flavor in every bite it was insane. Theres actual pieces of prawns inside where some bites you get this nice crunch from the whole prawn, and im unsure if he has blended prawns in there as well as the whole prawns, but this was REALLY good. I do want to warn you guys that this one should be eaten ASAP as the prawn juices really makes the breading soggy and this was the LEAST crispy of the bunch but the flavors were so strong it blew my socks off. I believe if you added a bit of kewpie mayo to this you can have an even better party in your mouth but thats just my opinion. I give the shrimp sandwich a 4/5 stars Torikatsu (Chicken) Sando $14: #1 item on the katsu side of the menu for me. The chicken like tore itself right off with EASE with each bite. The chicken was neither dry or bland, it was JUICY & TENDER AF and carried such a flavorful kick to the tastebuds. I could not help myself for going back for a second, third, and even fourth bite of this sandwich. I also hve to add that the breading on this guy held up the best too, the chicken was SO crispy the texture plays such a significant role when you're aiming to enjoy these sandos and this one excelled in that. I give the chicken a 5/5 stars Menchi-katsu (Beef/pork) Sando $14: Imagine a hamburger patty, breaded up and deep fried that is menchi katsu. Let me just tell you, if you LOVE hamburgers this right here is fighting head on with the chicken for the crown for Katsu sandos. The beef/pork patty was so flavorful and it held together so well. Menchi is a bit more obscure so if you get a chance PLEASE try their menchi, its solid! I give menchi a 5/5 stars Tamago (Egg) Sando $10: soft-boiled egg salad, generally egg salad sandos are the one thing that ALWAYS gets me. Dan your execution of a tamago sando is pure perfection, idk how the texture of the egg got like that, but its like whipped or smushed into this CREAMY HEAVENLY goodness. And the color of that yolk is it jidori or what!? This is the BEST eggsalad sando I've ever had the pleasure of feasting on. I could honestly go for 2 of these bad boys weekly. Like this sando deserves a 10/5 stars. Strawberries and Cream Sando $10: OKURRRR marscapone vanilla cream with the freshest non tart strawberries. I didnt order this because I thought to myself, HOW good could it be right? Well Dan I am so happy you gave me this to try, because I had NO idea how delicious that marscapone vanilla cream would be in that sando... and how did you pick your strawberries to be so sweet? 10/5 Stars hands down. Overall, I appreciate how this concept gives Nakama a small menu to work from and that gives them ample time to really PERFECT their 6 sandos and make it the best they can be. This concept as far as I know is unique to Nakama for The Bay Area and they are on the right path to being something niche that everyone will start flocking to Nakama to enjoy one of the only and possibly BEST Japanese Sandos The Bay Has to offer. Everything is solid, but not everything is at it's BEST yet, I will continue to monitor the growth!

    Torikatsu Sando

Ordered the Torikatsu Sando and Strawberries & Cream Sando...both were amazing! The Torikatsu Sando had a satisfying crunch and the flavors were delicious together! I'm usually not a fan of mustard, but this mustard mayo elevated the sandwich and made me want more! The Strawberries & Cream was my first ever fruity sandwich, and I loved it as the strawberries were all ripe and sweet, and paired with the cream and milk bread made this such a yummy dessert!! I just wish this sandwich was a little bigger! I ordered online through the instagram, and orders open every Monday at 10 am. I recommend ordering as soon as they open, as one time I tried ordering a couple days later and almost everything was sold out! Everything is very organized as you receive a confirmation email and link to Venmo for the order, as well as texts from Dan who gives you more information about how to pick up your order. Overall I had a great experience, and would definitely recommend to others!

The customer service here is exceptional, they're all really nice people and very attentive. Booking a reservation was super easy online. With the table experience, you get everything that the bar experience would get except the chef isn't serving it directly to you. Servers bring each course to your table after you finish each plate. For the food, every course was delicious! However, the portions are small. Great quality and the presentation is really nice, but if you have a bigger appetite or you're coming here starving, you will still be hungry at the end and probably will order more items à la carte. It does get expensive when you do this. I probably ended up spending as much as a more premium omakase, but the options we chose were really tasty so I don't have any regrets. Overall this was a great first omakase experience and I would come here again! It's really cool how they change up the menu every month.

The place is casual and a little not-fancy decor or ambiance wise. You wouldn't bring anyone here you wanted to impress. . .but the food is what's important, right? The sushi was good! The rolls were large, the options were creative, and everything was tasty and met expectations. I wouldn't say it's elevated sushi, where there are layers to the flavors and you go "wow". But you get your sushi and see the portions are a good size and are happy that you get to dig in and eat satisfying sushi. I'd come back here again, especially for casual sushi where you want good value. Service was good as well - again, nothing fancy or overly attentive, but perfectly adequate for the level of restaurant. Also, it came pretty quickly, which was a plus as well (it wasn't that crowded when we went).
