Wow! Just walked in with my 82 year old mother and was greeted by the coldest woman. She was unbelievable rude when we asked "is the pho good" her poor ego couldn't handle it. First time there. Best Pho broth I have had! I was given a generic red ketchup style dispenser with my pho and asked if it was sriracha. She said no, they don't use sriracha, it's a homemade hot sauce. She said pho stands in Vietnam don't use sriracha, they make their own. It was delicious but spicier than sriracha, so I would use a bit less than my usual squeeze next time. read more

10/21/2023 Ambiance: straightforward eatery, mid-sized, and not cluttered. There should be a sign to let customers know to seat themselves since no one greeted us upon entering the premise. The cashier behind the counter waved for us to walk towards her and handed us the menus to seat ourselves. No warmth, no smile but not cold either. Just very nonchalant. However, staff were very friendly to their regulars as they shouted their names as if they've been friends for a long time. "Cassandra" got a shout out, not us. We really didn't need a "Cassandra" shout out because we are low profile people, just a warm friendly smile would suffice. After all, first impression is most everything. Service: our server seemed like he's still learning as a new employee. He was gentle and doing his best. He didn't make any mistakes with our orders. There was a staff by the name of Liêm (he may be the owner or family member belonging to the restaurant) who helped our server out a bit as he was the one that brought out our cafe and phó. He was attentive as he asked our server to give us more water. Every staff member helped each other out - even when another customer asked why she got regular rice instead of broken rice (what she had ordered). Staff/owner provided an explanation and got the customer's order right thereafter. Food: we ordered the summer rolls, 2 bowls of pho (1 regular, 1 large), and cafe. The peanut dip (for the summer rolls) has just a slight sourness to it. Something we are not used to. There was no crushed peanuts on it. I asked for Sambal and another server (not our server) brought out the chili sauce, which I asked whether it's sriracha? The sever then nicely said, "It's not sriracha, it's chili sauce". She said that she will ask but never came back with info as she never came back at all. No one came back to ask what we needed or try to clarify about the Sambal/chili situation. Oh well, it's not the end of our world. When the cafe was brought out, my husband tried it. I simply asked him how it was. Before he even responded, we hear a voice holler from behind the counter, "Not every Vietnamese coffee is the same!" She must be the owner, looking straight at our table, which is right next to the counter/cashier/kitchen area. How strange - and that was the end of that. She didn't say anything else since we didn't respond to her outburst. Should we move onto the pho? Ok. Here it is, there is something missing in the pho broth itself. You can't truly taste the essence of beef pho broth or its spices. No depth, no layers to the broth. One lonely note. Yes, we ate everything. It's not bad to the level where we had to spit it out. It's just ok. All in all, the prices were way too high for everything, especially, for the below average pho. At last, the encore to our experience here - as we got up to leave after paying the bill, the same staff/owner (the one that shouted out about the coffee earlier) asked us, "How was everything?" I simply responded, "It's okay". Next thing I heard was she responded in a mocking voice, "It's okay" and laughed. To the owner: you or your staff may want to be retrained about mocking a customer even if you don't agree with our opinions. What if I were a food critic writing for a newspaper? Secondly, if you don't want to hear the truth, then simply don't ask us. I was simply being polite when I said it's ok. We left without responding to her mocking me. Just remember, the power of the pen. I would dismiss this if it were her having a bad day as we all have those. But, it wasn't a bad day because she was laughing with her regular customers and staff. She even invited her staff to go fishing with her. She even changed the hour to picking them up at 5:30am since one of them said it's too early to go at 5am. I would go fishing with her if she hadn't mocked me. Finally, just remember, customers don't just come for the good foods, they also come for the experiences. This is a one and done deal for us. We rather put in the gas money and drive far into Eden Center or Pho 75 in VA. Good foods, good experiences, great referrals and free advertisements by the mouths. Some seriously good pho. I'm a pretty big pho snob and I can say this place is amazing. The pho is also loaded. The broth and the brisket are my recommendations. The service is very genuine and pretty fast. The place is smaller and pretty busy but the owners are so genuine and hospitable. All Pho is made equal. I can't believe I would even write that ... and I can assure you it is incorrect. I was introduced to Pho over 25 years ago by accident. I was instantly addicted to the complex flavors intertwined with great textures making what can only be described as phenomenal. Today I was introduced to Nam Pho Since then, I have made great efforts to identify my "go-to" Pho spot. Oddly enough, I always find my next destination in a shopping center in a random part of town. Today I was introduced to yet another shopping center storefront serving Pho. Like so many before it, I went in with tempered expectations. As we entered, the space was clean and not cluttered. The tables were relatively full for a lunch visit but not so much so that it was not comfortable to have a friendly conversation. The server, we would later learn his name is James, greeted us and invited us to find a table, and he would be right with us. A few moments later, he arrived with their menus and some water. The concise menu offers several options, including Bun Mi and other traditional Vietnamese dishes. We were there for Pho, though. To keep things even, I always try to House Pho on my first visit. I am a big eater, but for some reason, I chose to go with the small one today; it was plenty LARGE. The large would have been great, but I would be napping now instead of writing. Everywhere you try Pho, they have their version of the broth. Each tries to outdo the others with some different twist. The chef at Nam Pho has figured out his broth and figured out a winner!!! It was not too salty, had great complexity to the melded flavors, and made me want more broth! The portion, as stated earlier, was perfect, and the "add-ons" (basil, sprouts, peppers, etc.) were enough for two, but not wastefully too much. The service provided by James was excellent. You could tell he enjoyed his job, took it seriously, and wanted to make sure your meal was memorable, not your time with him. The prices seemed appropriate for what you were getting, not inexpensive, but a value for the price. I REALLY wanted to like the food here. The customer service isn't very nice, but that's ok if the food is great. I have tried a variety of dishes (pho, banh mi, rice w/ meats, spring rolls) their absolute best is the grilled lemongrass chicken appetizer. Excellent. The pork in the pork/rice dish was SO fatty - awful. The spring rolls are extraordinarily small and loaded with wrapper - and not the rice paper variety. I guess I am used to Eden/ Northern Virginia Vietnamese delicacies. I am sure there is a market here for this - but with the high prices and lack of luster, am so disappointed. Moved to Annapolis from California, this restaurant gives me hope for Maryland/east coast. Im tired of old bay and same food everywhere. Check out this hidden gem. Great selection of vegetarian and vegan options and the owner is careful to point out items that aren't vegan when you order something custom. Very kind and efficient wait staff. I can't post a review because I couldn't get past the cost of a bowl.....I've had Phô in NYC in Manhattan that wasn't this pricey. I don't want to put undo pressure on the product because it CAN'T be good enough to justify that price. Maybe one day when every other Phô place in the area follows suit, but in the meantime, going from 7.95-9.95 pre-Covid to this now is just too much for me and I'll stick to Phô 5UP and the like. read more

My partner and I have been checking this place out, first through takeout twice and then today we went for lunch. It's super convenient for us, and in nicer weather would be walkable, so the location is a big plus, and we love that it's a mom and pop shop. For takeout, we have tried two of the banh mi sandwiches. Today, he had the #31 Eye Round Pho/Pho Tai and I had the #21 Stir-fried Vegan Pho/Pho Xao Rau. It's all been fantastic. I tried a taste of the broth from the #31 and the depth of flavor and deliciousness was off the charts. I can't wait to try that whole meal sometime. The #21 was perfect for my mood, warm and soothing flavors, though I didn't need comfort, it was still the perfect comfort food and I will get it again sometime when I do need comfort food. The bowl of it was also huge, so I have lunch for at least one day from this meal, too. The tea is the best I've had since I moved back to Maryland. It was really just a great meal all around. Someone mentioned the price in another review, and I can see that it might seem pricey for lunch, but the quality of food is fully worth it to me. And if you want to make it even more with it, get the #21, which is a lot of food. Even if you're a hungry bear and don't have any left over for lunch the next day, you won't be hungry when you leave. Oh, and everyone there is super nice and helpful. My partner has been the one to pick up our takeaway the two times before we are their today, and the owner already remembers his name. read more

Just discovered Nam Bros Pho! Great little shop hidden away in the Eastport Shopping Center. Great food. We had an order of summer rolls that had pork, shrimp, cucumber, and mint with a yummy peanut sauce. Then a chicken pho and a round steak/Vietnamese meatball pho for two of us. I live in Frederick but have a property in Annapolis that I visit often to maintain. I usually just walk over to Main Street and eat there. Today I decided to try the nearest Vietnamese restaurant and was pleasantly surprised. Their pho is really good, I made the mistake of putting too much hot sauce (did not realize it is homemade). I am not a novice in eating pho as I have had it all over North American and Southern Asia. Having said that, I was disappointed in this restaurant's version. They did a great job on the noodles but thought their broth wasn't as flavorful as I like. I also felt the meat was a bit stingy for the price. But probably was my biggest complaint was their house-made sauce. They didn't have a bottle of Sriracha on the table as almost all other pho restaurants in North America. Phõ is such a pleasure food to be enjoyed for the satisfaction of our taste buds. BEST of the best Vietnamese food on this planet. Nam's Phõ serves more than Phõ, rice noodle... they share their kindness and enthusiasm for hometown cooking. The chefs only serve customers what they eat and drink... we are so lucky and so grateful!! My husband and I moved to Annapolis from New York six months ago. We love Vietnamese food from west coast, Saigon City, in Bay area San Mateo to Greenwich Village, Hello Saigon, in New York City...... they are all delicious!!! Till we are here at NAM's Phõ, Eastport, where we've found the BEST of the best Vietnamese food on this planet. Every thing we have ever tasted is so good. We feel so blessed and so lucky to have tasted Jen's recipes from her hometown... yes! recipes have sustainably been passed onto from generation to generation... today we ordered from November Special. Wow!! We couldn't wait to share the photos (making sure you let the chefs know you like spicy... house-made only) my husband doesn't eat spicy, but he was willing to enjoy and to try everything I ordered and loved it with his favorite house-made lemonade (freshly made with palm sugar); the chefs only serve customers what they eat and drink... we are so grateful that we only live ten minutes from Nam's Phõ. We just need to remind ourselves that Wednesdays are their day-off. The dessert of this month is sesame rice balls... how wonderful to finish our meal with such delightful dessert... now it reminds me the slang of " The way to a man's heart is to through his stomach". We will be back soon to remember take photos of the round rice noodle seafood special before I get my last spoonful. And the jasmine hot tea is delicious too. I don't normally leave Yelp reviews but this experience left me irritated enough that I feel like I need to. First off, don't be deceived by the photos, they don't have Bahn-Mi sandwiches, which is the whole reason we came. We placed a to go order for 2 pho's & a Vegetarian bowl. The server was super nice & courteous, and this review is in no way a reflection of the service. After ordering & paying we were told they had no Tofu (2/3 of the things we ordered were vegetarian) and asked us what we'd like to do. We asked for extra veggies which was a suitable replacement. Our total ended up being just under $60 which is over priced for some mediocre noodles, broth, & "veggies." When we got home the veggies pho had little to no extra veggies, but more noodles. The veggie bowl was where the extreme disappointment set in. The extra veggies they added were sliced, limp mushrooms, some sort of radish, and sliced carrots. I ended up picking off the mushrooms & radishes and was left with noodles, peanuts, carrots, cucumber, and a few basil leaves & lettuce leaves. For as expensive as this place is, it surely doesn't make up for it with the food quality. Extremely underwhelmed & still hungry. read more

Just finished a delicious bowl of beef meatball pho. I love the pho at the end of the day because the broth has been cooking overnight and all day and the bone marrow fills the broth with such delicious umami! It is full of flavor and Jenny offers native Vietnamese hot spice sauce to those of us who like a kick in your mouth. You get the full works with her pho--bean sprouts, fresh Siam Basil, fresh jalapeño peppers, rice noodles, and about a dozen roasted spices to make the pho absolutely the BEST. I moved to Annapolis from an Asian -centered community and immediately missed my local pho provider. We have waited years for Jenny to open her restaurant and bring her Mother-in-law's recipes to our community. The weekly specials have been superb - my current favorite is her curry, but I also make sure I stop in weekly for her beef meatball pho. IT's that good that I never tire of eating it. This is my second review of this restaurant. This time I tried the crispy noodles. It is the go-to dish whenever we go to an Asian eatery. My expectation was high because I can also make this dish at home with decent results. Well, the shrimps, chicken and veggies were not overcooked. They were well seasoned. My main complaint was the sauce was sugary sweet. At some point I thought about stop eating it in protest of this extreme poor taste by the chef. My secondary complaint is that there seems to be two type of veggies - carrot and a type of greens. I also was not impressed with the slightly over-fried noodles. This dish has so much potential but the chef blew it. No matter how much the dish is priced, it isn't worth it. I kept telling myself that I won't need to have dessert after having this crispy noodles dish. I was miserable trying to finish it.
