The staff was incredibly attentive, friendly, and extremely polite throughout our visit. We ordered the Mango Curry and the Red Curry, and both were absolutely delicious with amazing flavor. The white rice was cooked perfectly, and the vegetable egg rolls arrived piping hot, crispy, and were so good. Everything from the food to the service exceeded our expectations. It was a bit too sticky for me. The papaya salad - The positive point was it was not as salty as others' salad and it tastes like papaya. The shortfall was there was an after taste I can't pinpoint that I personally didn't like. Price - Pretty high for the quality and the portion. Both were so delicious I decided to order another pad Thai to go. Presentation of both dishes were also beautiful. Cito, the owner took care of us. He told us exactly when to expect the dishes and asked also for our feedback. He asked how we liked our dishes. I thought that was really thoughtful. He also checked on us. Cito really cared about bringing the best experience to his customers. I can feel his passion and it shows. The place was a little busy with a lot of take out orders. What a pleasant surprise. I had not seen this location, but they're located in the Tractor Supply parking lot next to the paint store. We ordered a variety of items - and everything tasted great. The phone ordering was a little tricky, we thought the garlic lovers was a noodle dish but it was just veggies and meat. It was good, just not what we thought! The inside of the restaurant was nice - very well decorated and peaceful. We ordered food to go, but I sat inside for a bit until it was ready. Service looked good! What a fantastic meal!!! Everything was fresh, crisp, and flavorful. Additionally, the ambiance is beautiful! Well decorated restaurant, beautifuk dishes and cutlery.... you really feel the intentionality that goes into the entire experience from the moment you walk in the door. The owners have am omakase restaurant that I really love in Davis so when I heard they were opening up a Thai restaurant, I knew it would be great. And it is. We tried the green curry, drunken noodles, papaya salad, and fresh spring rolls. All were fabulous but our favorites were the green curry and the drunken noodles. Peanut sauce was scrumptious. I'm giving Amara an extra star because they are still in their soft opening phase. Their grand opening is tomorrow. Before then, I hope they have better signage on the door and hours posted and maybe even a phone number to call. After reading Wendy Weitzel's coverage on the Comings & Goings blog, I expected other options than standard Thai restaurant fare. She mentioned that the owners planned to include entrees from Myanmar. I wanted to order the Noodle Salad after asking if it was served cold and the waiter asked the cook, who confirmed it was a cold dish. So, I ordered it, only for the waiter to apologetically came back from the kitchen to tell me it was not available until their grand opening. I instead ordered the Veggie Delight stir fry and my husband ordered one of his standards, Pad See Ew. The food was tasty but nothing special. One has the choice of zero to three on spice levels. I couldn't find any website, so I couldn't check out the menu online. I tried to take pictures of all the pages of the menu, but they are encased in plastic and reflected the overhead lights. Here's three out of five pages of the menu. It's a relatively small restaurant, with tables and chairs to seat about 40. Sadly, I am very unimpressed with what I ordered. I elected to try the pad see ew with beef. The beef was really tough and chewy. It was not the least bit tender. The sauce was too sweet and not savory. I will not order this dish in the future. Perhaps the drunken noodles will be more palatable. read more

This is a small restaurant, but when we were there it was busy. The staff and chef were all extremely nice to everyone who walked into the restaurant. I ordered a ground chicken salad called larb and my husband had the Panay curry which was full of flavor. The ambience is very relaxing and the young man who served us was very conscientious, refilling my glass with water each time it was low. There seemed to be a lot of takeout order on top of the busy tables tonight too. The food took about 30 minutes to get but it was worth the wait, we ordered spring rolls, yellow curry, drunken noodles and one more dish. Stopped into Amara for a quick lunch, the restaurant is cozy, has really nice interiors ie the tables and chairs are cute and all the dining ware is really nice as well. I ordered the shrimp fritters and the pad se ew with beef. I was hoping they would have Thai iced coffee on the menu , only tea at this time but the server said they are working on a recipe for iced coffee. The shrimp fritters were very yummy, not what you might think is a fritter, it was a shrimp wrapped in spring roll dough and fried, but it was quite yummy. The pad se ew with beef was really delicious, lots of good veggies and the beef was tender and seasoned well. Great customer service as well, extremely friendly staff, can't wait to go back and try more of their menu. read more

Went once after they first opened. Great service, great food. Took my daughter for her first time & were promptly seated. The waitress wasn't personable or friendly at all but that's ok. We looked through the menu, closed them & set them down, waiting for our order to be taken. The same waitress walked past us once, looked over at us about 3 times & still didn't come take our order so we left. Not sure whether she's new, shy, or just doesn't like her job but it was quite off-putting. Not sure whether we'll be back. They also don't have lunch specials. The perfect food stop before costco. We have been to Amara multiple times since and have nothing but compliments to the chef and to the service the team provides. Anthony does a great job managing all the guests no matter how busy it gets. We saw a big order come in when there was a full house and he continued to ensure all guests were taken care of with professionalism and was always all smiles. Most importantly to us, the team is very careful about allergies. Something we really appreciate as we have life threatening allergies to some foods. Anthony and the chefs are very thorough and always explain every step of the food prep to us and why certain stages might take longer due to cleaning and to prevent any allergen cross contamination. We believe their thoroughness is also reflected in how clean the place is. The bathroom is always spotless. We came in for dinner service the day after their grand opening and boy was it packed. After only about a 15 minute wait we were seated. We started with Thai Teas at 50% sweet, yes you get to choose the sweetness. We also ordered the crispy shrimp croquettes and Thai crab cakes. We were at the croquettes as they were not what we would consider a croquet but were still very tasty with a little coriander tucked in the pastry and served with a typical sweet chili sauce. The Thai crab cakes resemble a croquette, these were deliciously filled with crab and service with a spicy chilli sauce. For our entrees I got the Pad See Ew with chicken. Very tasty and fresh crisp vegetables. Katherine got the Pad Thai, it had a very nice balance of flavors and a generous portion. For dessert we shared a mango sticky rice since we were so full from our appetizers and entrees. I just love when mango stick rice shows up with that fresh rice smell and tastes just as delicious. This was comped because it took a long time, not necessary but thank you. Amara is brought to us by the power dou of Hakari in Davis, Sithu and Zin, and is Halal. This is a cozy restaurant so it fills up quickly, I recommend trying to come in during the non-rush times. read more

Oh wow! It was great! They took over the spot that used to be Saffron, in a shopping center that has been in desperate need of some good eats. They delivered! Woodland needs a good Thai restaurant. Davis used to be overflowing with them, but even now it's hard to get good Thai food. Finally! Yay! The place is warm, warm and comfy. It's not huge, but it was very popular when we went there on a Saturday night. We didn't have to wait though. Service was impeccable. Anthony took incredible care of us. He even warned us that our food might take a little bit longer because there was a large party that had been submitted before us. I thought that was so considerate. That said, the food came out in a very reasonable amount of time and it was absolutely delicious. Soooo good! We tried the shrimp fritters and spring rolls as appetizers, the pad Thai, a curry dish, and the drunken noodles. All were absolutely delicious. Been here three times now. The food is good, portions are generous and service is excellent. What we've tried so far ... Calamari Appetizer: it comes with a fresh tasting chili sauce which is not overly sweet. Panang Curry with chicken: richly spicy asked for "thai hot" and it is full of flavors, not overpowered by the chilies Cashew Nut Stir Fry and Eggplant Stir Fry with tofu: Both of these are yummy. The roasted chili sauce is memorable. The stir fries do not include rice which we ordered separately and that's good too. Pad See Ew with chicken: Good, mild, different broad noodles than I've had before Pad Thai with shrimp: I was a little disappointed in this one, The sauce was sweeter than I like and perhaps the noodles a little too soft. The shrimp was good and there were plenty of them. The space is nicely decorated but the ambiance can use some work. The entry side is dominated with a sheet glass window and glass door. There is no shade so it is ultra bright, uncomfortable to face that wall. There are four or five tables along one wall which provide seating without facing those windows. A giant TV screen plays Mukbang nonstop (luckily without sound) I find it distracting and would prefer no TV at all. But ... did I mention "good food"? We'll be back. read more

My husband and I went to Amara Thai Cuisine with our son and his family. The waitress took our orders. After waiting for 20 minutes, we assumed that they must be very busy. After 35 minutes of waiting, the waitress brought the food orders to our table except mine. The people at our table already finished eating and I was still waiting for my food. I waited for a total of 1 hour from the time I ordered my food, when the waitress finally brought my food, I told the waitress to just bag my food so I could eat it at home. Went there for lunch a couple of times. The food is basic Thai, nothing special. The flavors are well blended and they can adjust the spice level for you. Service was good. Server was attentive and checked on me regularly. The restaurant is small but clean and nicely decorated. My only issue is that they only serve Thai ice tea. First time in to Amara, midweek dinnertime party of 2. Thai iced teas to start, looking back at the menu now I noticed you can modify to be half & half, oatmilk, or almond milk! Fresh spring rolls with shrimp -- the peanut sauce was so yummy we asked for more! The shrimp wasn't visible right up against the rice paper wrapper, rather, tucked in between the greens. One was filling for one person! Shared one order of the green curry with tofu, and jasmine rice. Note, when we asked for wild rice they did not have any available, but they did have sticky rice. Also, all of the curries start as a baseline level of spice at MEDIUM, then the usual ranking of yellow being the mildest, then green, then red. Panang is a medium-spicy. Starting with MEDIUM, the next levels are HOT and THAI HOT for the brave and daring. The green curry was very good, and that base spice did make itself known, quite the hit. Eggplant, basil, bell peppers, and the curry itself was not too thin, great for drizzling over the rice. For dessert, they also only had two options available: the mango with sticky rice, and the long donut with coconut. We got the mango sticky rice, nice presentation and the extra condensed or coconut milk drizzle was great. Did not try the soups, salads, stirfries, noodles, or chef specials this time. Not sure if they have special pricing at lunchtime, but I would like to come back and taste some more offerings. Neat to know that the owners of Amara also own Hikari in Davis! read more

This is a new restaurant in Woodland and we were excited to try it. We ordered it to go because it was getting late. The service was great. He even delayed the order since we were still driving home from Natomas. I wanted to try the mango red curry but was worried it might be too spicy for me, since I'm a lightweight when it comes to heat. The server advised us that it is medium heat and mentioned red is the hottest out of yellow, green, and red curries. So we ordered yellow curry with chicken (but asked to add mangoes) and basil stir fry with chicken. The ambiance is very nice. Quaint, clean, and had an elevated atmosphere with a sense of Thai decor. The food was actually very good. The Basil stir fry had lots of authentic Thai flavor and the curry was very good (not too spicy for me at all and delicious with the added mangoes). I highly recommend this restaurant and will have to come back to eat there when we are not in a rush to get home. The portion size is fair and reasonably priced.
