And just to put it in perspective, I literally drive here all the way from Sacramento. What can I say about the sushi? It's absolutely incredible. Today I tried a new spicy shrimp roll. I don't exactly remember the name, but wow, it was so good. Overall, your sushi is just 10/10. I also noticed you've added drinks since the last time I was here. It's been a while, so I didn't know about that, but I love it. I'm really into drinks like that. And they look just as perfect in real life as they do in pictures. Another 10/10. The only small thing I'd maybe suggest is working a little bit on the interior. But honestly, the atmosphere is still great. It really gives that cozy, homey vibe with a nice touch of Asian culture. A small, hole-in-the-wall restaurant that specializes in takeout sushi options. I opted to dine in and order the Chicken Katsu-don, costing me $16.99. The dish is made up of the curry, a fried, chicken cutlet, and a bed of white rice. While there was nothing necessarily wrong with the quality of my dish, nothing in particular made it stand out. The curry wasn't exactly too flavorful, but the chicken cutlet was breaded quite well. For its price point, I expected either a larger portion size or better quality of food, as you could find better quality chicken katsu curry at a similar, or even cheaper price point within Davis. It took around 15-20 minutes for my dish to come out, although the service was friendly throughout my entire visit. The greatest highlight of my experience were the desserts/drinks that are created on a daily basis, in-house. The strawberry matcha was quite overpowering, as you could taste more of the strawberry bits as opposed to the matcha. The vietnamese coffee was extremely delicious, as it was sweet, yet not overbearing! The real star of the show was the banana pudding, at a perfect balance of sweetness, consistency, and price! Finally got to try Anti-Monday for the first time AND on a Monday :P Imma be honest we did struggle to find where it was. Google Maps and Apple Maps were no help and we had to resort to TikTok to find out where it was. We didn't know it was inside of the Davis Sushi! I watched to check out Antimonday after seeing a post about their Biscoff banana pudding matcha. The kiosk is inside a sushi restaurant. They have a good variety of drinks! They have options for milk alternatives (almond, oat) as well which are $1 extra. I also wanted to order sushi but I could hear the line picking up behind me and only noticed matcha and desserts available to order on the kiosk. I waited a bit for my drink but totally understandable because I think there's only 1-2 ppl behind the counter making drinks. There were also 5 people ahead of me at the time. Chirashi bowl was huge and had some sweet pickled things in there but was very pleasant overall. Came with a sweet sesame oil which was unique. Nigiri pieces were satisfying as well, nothing to complain about. However, my mom and I immediately tasted a bit of funkiness in the galbi + apparently last time my family came here it was burnt, but we were refunded for it this time. I have never had galbi meat that tasted off/had a strange aftertaste so it worried me. The biggest issue was that even though the restaurant was empty, we ordered around 1:15 and our food came at 1:50. It didn't come all at once either, we got the last item at 2:00. So in between we were starved and just splitting everything. There were like two people serving and making the food (we watched 4-5 Doordash orders come in while we were there too), so they were definitely maxed out. I don't want to trash this place at all, the people here were extremely nice and hardworking and I want them to have good business. I just wish they had more hands. Everything and I mean everything was delicious! The biggest surprise for me was the sweet buns with egg custard - they were so soft and tender, with a velvety sweet custard that wasn't too eggy. Maybe this place is better for takeout? There are literally two old, sticky copies of the menu at the front. It's a good size space and there are several tables, so I don't get where there would be just two menus. The sushi rice has too much vinegar. The rolls are huge and filling which sorta explains the high price, but the quality of the rolls was pretty average. We had to get our own utensils, got paper towel from the bathroom to wipe the table, and never got a chance to even ask for a water refill or if we wanted to order more because the server never came out to check on us. So maybe all the good reviews on here are about takeout, cuz there's really not many options on this side of town. But to say it's anything more than basic is wild. This spot just opened a week ago and serves sushi and Japanese noodles & rice dishes. It's currently open for take out orders, and I'm not sure when dining in will be an option. It's not too busy and not fully staffed yet. The parking lot has plenty of spots on a Friday evening, so no need to worry about finding parking. My partner and I ordered a dragon roll and a lion king roll (baked salmon with crab meat). The dragon roll is similar to what you typically get elsewhere, so it was good; the chipotle mayo sauce on top was new for us. The lion king roll was disappointing because it wasn't baked well. We ate it right after getting our order and the roll wasn't even lukewarm. The center of the roll is only filled with crab meat, and the salmon was oddly dry. The inside of the restaurant is just a bunch of tables around the center of the restaurant. It doesn't look fully setup, but they're fairly new to West Davis. (SAME OWNERSHIP AS DAVIS SUSHI BUFFET) I wish I knew previously that this was the same restaurant just relocated and new items as Davis Sushi Buffet because I probably wouldn't have ordered due to previous experiences of unfresh fish. I ordered various nigiri, and they were all unfresh and somehow flavorless with a weird texture, despite this restaurant opening so recently, which was disappointing. I also ordered the shrimp dumplings which also were weirdly dry. I've never had a dry dumpling like this before but the rice noodle/paper on the outside was literally dried up and the whole dumpling was falling apart because it was too dry to stick together. Reflecting now, I'm pretty sure these shrimp dumplings were microwaved which would explain the weird dry texture of the noodle outside. The miso soup was also a bit unsatisfying and not a lot of flavor. The only decent thing we ordered was the Korean galbi, but you could easily get the frozen short ribs from Trader Joes and make this at home instead. Hopefully this restaurant will find a different source to get their fish from to overall improve the freshness and quality, and use a steamer or another method of preparing their dumplings. read more
