A shit business closing for some garbage reason.

Fuck this place showed up on a Saturday night as it said it was open only to find it was only open for some special event. I'll gladly go to mikuni

I dined in for the omakase experience and it was definitely worth the price. We sat at the counter and we were able to witness the preparation and the explanation of how all the dishes are prepared. My favorites are the black cod, tuna, and wagyu. We will absolutely revisit for the omakase experience.

I had Hikari bookmarked for the longest time, and finally had the chance to check it out. We came here on a weekday when they opened at 5:00. The place is small, with sushi bar seating and two tables on either side. I went with the OMAKASE SAN- 14 courses. We started off with the chawanmushi. I found the liquid in it to be salty. The hamachi crudo was mixed with mandarin orange pieces and ikura. There were white pieces still on the orange. Next, we were given a hamachi hand roll. I thought the hamachi was over marinated. The 10 pieces of nigiri was all fine, nothing exciting. The hamachi was probably my favorite. I felt the wasabi in some of the pieces overpowered the fish. For example, the scallop would've paired better with something citrusy (maybe yuzu or lemon) rather than wasabi. I later heard the waiter ask another couple if they wanted the wasabi on the side or as is with the nigiri. We weren't given that same option. We ended the meal with (Japanese) cheese cake with green tea ice cream. Overall, everything was fine but didn't meet my higher expectations.

Very memorable night, it was our first omakase experience and definitely will not be our last. This was the best sushi I've ever had, and its conveniently located in Davis!

We did a 2 person walk in at 5pm for the 14 piece Omakase San menu. The service was fast and attentive. Chawanmushi (4/5) so yummy and served right after they took our order. But the size was small and we wish there was more! Great start Hamachi crudo (5/5) so refreshing for a hot day. The fruit was perfect and the cashew is great for a crunch. Nigiri Platter: salmon, amberjack, and the sea bream were our favorite. The seasonings were paired well but subtle. Wish all of them were a bit stronger. Dessert: the dried papaya was delicious but tiny. Lovely matcha flavor in the ice cream. Thanks for having us!

Believe the hype. This place is absolutely what everyone says it is. Server was very knowledgeable and attentive. Great little spot that's intimate yet elegant. Food was out of this world and didn't even break the bank for Michelin-level sushi. Some of the best bites I've ever had included the salmon, salt water eel, and the medium fatty tuna. Fantastic sake selection with flexible options in terms of size of pour. Can't wait for another opportunity to go back and splurge.

This was my second time here and it did not disappoint. The quality was just as superb as the first time I went several years ago. High quality ingredients with precision preparation. Each dish was perfectly seasoned. Still my favorite Omasake in the Sacramento area. An intimate dining experience . Staff was very professional, friendly and efficient. I will continue to rave about this restaurant to all my friends.

Hikari Sushi & Omakase is an absolute gem in Davis and NorCal! The omakase quality to value beats SF hands down. Chef Sithu treats you to an incredible two-hour, multi-course feast featuring melt-in-your-mouth otoro and hand-shaved fresh wasabi. Every piece of fish is impeccably fresh and expertly crafted. The intimate counter seating lets you watch the masters at work, and the service is attentive and personal. While it's a splurge, it's worth every penny for a special occasion or date night. The chef updates their omakase menu based on the season and availability of the fishes flown in from Japan. My wife and I have been here multiple times and are constantly amazed by the creativity of the chefs' dishes. Their Friday and Saturday Omakase are their signature reservations, so I would highly recommend those reservations!!! Reservations are essential. This is, without a doubt, the best sushi experience in the area. 5/5 Stars

Finally tried this place and I'm very happy I did. Super fresh fish prepared as if in Japan. The atmosphere and service was as expected in a fine Japanese restaurant. I can't wait to go back!

Dining at Hikari Sushi & Omakase is an experience not to be missed! We were able to book the second seating weekend omakase. My dining companion had the sake flight and all glasses were excellent. The omakase here is unlike anything I've had before. Each course was thoughtful, beautifully presented, and bursting with flavor. The chef's creativity and passion really shine through, and the intimate setting makes it feel extra special. If you're looking for a one-of-a-kind Japanese dining adventure, this is the place!

This place has been one my bucketlist of places to eat since it came to town. I was surprised by my husband and kids as a birthday gift to come here and have dinner with them. This place is really easy to find, it's located right across the street for the movie theater. This is where you're getting highest quality sushi in Davis, right here. It's a very small intimate place that only seats about 8 people at the bar and they have two tables on each side that only seat about 4 people. they have a very tight knit staff there, they give you instructions upon coming. Omakase means chefs choice. As a chef myself, I absolutely love seafood, this was a amazing treat. It is a preset menu here, where everything is meticulously prepared right in front of you and served you. It is a beautiful journey you're going through, where as each dishes prepared, it is also explained to you how it's being prepared and what the preparations were up to it. these are fishes that are being flown in from Japan. Each dish was so delicious it just melted your mouth or or just made you roll your eyes back because you couldn't believe how unbelievably delicious it was. Everything was phenomenal and you definitely do get full. I love learning the style of food and the history behind the food. The chefs did phenomenal job of presenting all the food and talking about it. The servers were all very friendly, attentive and super helpful. Just know, to be prepared to pay a little bit more money than usual for a experience like this. you do have to make reservations ahead of time and they are normally two weeks out. They have three seating times at 4:30 7:30 and 9:30, it is only offered on Friday and Saturday only. The rest of the week you can have normal sushi menu there. If you love seafood, and sushi, this is a definitely must do for you.

Came here on 1/6/26 for a weekday 14 course Omakase San meal. It is one of the best tasting Omakase for the price! The server was great and explained each course to us. Will definitely be coming back here again.

This is the best sushi place in the Sacramento area, no question. Authentic and quality omakase, without a generally purist take with just the right amount of experimentation. The pricing is extremely reasonable for what you get as well.

Ask the Community - Hikari Sushi & Omakase

What is the price for weekend omakase now?

$175 per person and an optional $50 for a sake pairing.

    Do they do walk ins?

Yes, except I believe on Fridays and Saturdays when they do the omakase-only seatings. We have frequently been able to get a spot at the sushi bar on a walk-in basis. It is an absolutely incredible place and you will not be disappointed!

Service: Service was good. Our server checked in on us regularly, made sure our waters were always refilled, and gave us enough space to enjoy our time without feeling rushed. Ambiance: The atmosphere was clean, modern, and cozy. It had a relaxed but slightly upscale feel. I was shocked when I walked in. We had mainly been focused on the food when choosing where to go and didn't pay much attention to the ambiance beforehand. But it's okay. It was a nice place. Perfect for catching up with a friend or even a casual date. The decor and lighting made it feel welcoming. Overall, it was a really enjoyable experience. Good food, attentive service, and a comfortable vibe. Definitely a place I'd come back to.

I sat at the sushi bar. It took quite a long time for someone to come over and take my order. And it also took a little while for my sushi and sashimis to come out. One thing that grosses me out a little bit is that my soy sauce dish is oily. But I can't wave anyone down so I used it anyways.. The sashimis are fresh. And they give really big pieces too so it is great value. The Madai sashimi still have scales on them tho that was a little surprising in texture. The nigiris are in massive pieces. Which again I appreciate the value. However, the uni was visibly dark in color in some piece. I thought it might be a regional character (cuz uni from different place can have different colors). But upon first bite it tasted a little stinky which is not how it's supposed to taste. To be honest, I would rather have less uni and smaller nigiri if I can just have fresh fish. When eating raw fish freshness is a huge priority. This dinning experience too way longer than expected. And I'm very disappointed in the freshness of an expensive ingredient. I do hope they improve and succeed as it's been in Davis for so long.
