Over the past several years I have passed this seafood shack dozens of times. Never had the opportunity to stop at it until today. I was surprised at how fresh the lobster was, and tender. The roll was grilled and still warm. I opted for it without mayonnaise and enjoyed the sweet, tender lobster without it. The onion rings were the thin sliced kind. Quite sweet with a thin, golden crispy coating. I'd definitely recommend giving this shack a try if you are in the area. As an added bonus they had fresh picked apples (Macintosh and Cortland) for sale by the half bushel. read more

If feel like if you are selling lobster rolls within 20 miles of the coast, they should be fresh and beautifully made to show off what the coast has to offer. Here they could really use some upgrading on the lobster rolls. Sad that it tastes like it was previously frozen. Disappointed that it's on watery side to the point that I had mayo/water dripping down my arm as I tried to eat it. On the upside the onion rings are good and the lady who runs it is super nice. read more

This was a great little spot . We were headed home from the beach and wanted to catch a quick bite to eat. The food was fresh and quite tasty . The ladies at the Shanty were super friendly and shared their Maine hospitality . We enjoyed our quick bite and some lively conversation as we waited on our food. Just know if you are stoping by be sure to have some cash on hand as they are a cash only restaurant . We will defiantly put this on our places to grab a bit when headed out to the beach. read more

Nance's Seafood Shanty...a seriously adorable "shack" on the side of the road. I happened upon this place while driving and decided to stop without having read any reviews. Nance was very nice and happily fried up my clams with a crumb and batter mix. I also tried the lobster roll, which at $11 seemed to be a bargain. It wasn't, really. It was a tiny lobster roll, made with chicken lobsters if I had to guess. The clam basket was also skimpy on the clams - she was heavy handed with the fries though. The lobster roll and fried clams were honestly delicious; the fries were just ok as they were fried in the same oil as the seafood. I'm not a fan of that. Up the portions a bit and I'd happily give a higher rating. read more

As other reviewers have said, this is an adorable roadside seafood stand with overpriced, skimpy lobster rolls. It seems like the thing to try here in this state, so my friends and I stopped by this week. $12 seemed like a lot, but we didn't know what the going price was. The roll was served on a regular sized toasted hot dog bun. We were asked if we wanted spinach or lettuce, and we chose lettuce - perhaps unfortunately, as the filling seemed to be half lettuce. It was delicious - but we felt like we'd been had, especially as just down the road there were cheaper places. I'm not in the yelp habit - should have checked here first for words of wisdom. It looked like if you ordered non-lobster dishes you got more food. I would definitely also give this a higher rating if more food was served. read more

LOVE this place. Truly a great representation of Maine. My boyfriend and I are from here and stumbled upon it on our way to the island. The view is amazing and I think these are the best sweet potato fries I've ever had. Yes the lobster rolls are on the small side but of $14 you can't beat it. You could get the same size in Portland for $25. Seeing locals stop by for lunch and talking with nance was a plus too. We love it so much we are heading back today! read more

Driving on Rt.123 is so pretty and relaxing so what fun to come across a seafood shanty. There is a lot of potential here but the food is very mediocre and it doesn't have to be. I ordered a clam cake sandwich and onion rings. The clam cake had a rubbery funny taste - could not finish it. I don't think they test their recipes. The onion rings were nearly non-existence because of how thin they were cut. I like crunching into an onion ring. If they could improve their cooking skills this place would be a pleasant stop over on a drive to Harpswell. Good luck to you. read more

My husband and I went here the day after our wedding! We were exhausted, starving, and in dire need of a pick-me-up. Let me tell ya, this place was everything you want a roadside seafood shack to be. The woman (Nance?) was super friendly and the food was outstanding. Fish was fried to perfection and the fries were super crispy and delicious. Lobster roll was also a solid 10/10. Honestly, I don't use yelp very often but I had to leave feedback for this place. Go there!!! read more

I would give this place zero stars for the quality of the food and the attitude of the people working there. When I went back to the window to tell them my chicken was overcooked (I am allergic to seafood) and that my friend's lobster roll appeared to have been left unfilled, they were quite rude and told me that there was 'nothing wrong with that food' and that the lobster roll had 'more lobster meat than any place else.' The fries and the chicken were all cooked in the same oil that they used for onion rings. I fed the chicken to the sea gulls and they wouldn't eat it. That's bad, because sea gulls will eat almost anything. The shack is cute and that is misleading. We will definitely not be going back and will tell others to drive on by. The lobster rolls at the nearby fast food chain are cheaper and much much better tasting. I truly wanted to have a fun experience at this place but it was not meant to be. read more
