Our annual Maine vacation was underway! We made plans to stop in Boothbay for a a few days before heading to Northern Maine. So our dinner stop before heading to Boothbay was Five Islands Lobster. We arrived around 4pm, just before a dinner rush. Parking is tight, but you make do. I was able to find a spot to accommodate my care and the small packing trailer on the hitch. Once we were parked we made our way to the buildings. The one building you order your lobster, another building you order other items. It was a very easy and simple process. Between all of us there was so much lobster and other fine dining options. The lobster was fresh and sweet. It was very delicious. The lobster came with corn and potatoes. The butter was perfect! It had that foaming too I love! My husband enjoyed his fried haddock sandwich and the fried scallops. He raved about the fried scallops. The staff were great. They were kind, helpful and hard working. The view was stunning. I saw a loon and was able to adventure on the rocks during low tide. Overall this was a beautiful spot to start our Maine vacation. Five Islands Lobster is a must when visiting Maine. We made our way up from Massachusetts and we were not disappointed after passing other stands along the way. We ordered 2 2lb lobsters, onion rings, and fried oysters. The lobster meat came right out of the shell (shout out to some man on the dock who helped us Marylanders with some verbal direction) and were full and flavorful! We are big crab eaters but it takes about 6 or more XL crabs to feel as full as we did with one lobster! The onion rings and oysters were perfectly fried and just as delicious. The oysters came with fries (which explains the ketchup) as well and all were large portions. It was the perfect location too! Sitting on The prettiest harbor in Maine in an unspoiled fishing village. Featuring fresh caught local lobster (sold by the pound). The waters are the coldest and deepest on the coast making delicious lobsters. They also have local dug clams, corn on the cob all cooked together giving it a delicious flavor. The fried onion rings are very good and large enough to share. The lobster rolls are delicious but the steamed lobsters are the best you can buy. We had 2 twin lobsters (1.25 lbs each) and corn on the cob for $30. You place your order at the Lobster hut (or other seafood and non seafood items at the Love Shack) and find a table on the docks. You can bring your own wine or beer. The water front view is breathtaking. Hands down the best lobster shack anywhere. Don't forget to get some ice cream before you leave. I make a yearly week-long pilgrimage to Maine for my personal Lobsterfest, and always spend a night at Five Islands. It is the quintessential Maine lobster shack. The gorgeous setting on the rugged coastline, a wonderful view of the harbor while you enjoy your meal, college kids who are pleasant and hard working to make and serve your meal(be generous when you tip!), and of course the delicious food. You pay for your lobster by the pound, (mine last night was 2.7), and I ordered it from the lobster shack with a pound of steamers, potatoes and corn. More food than I usually eat, but hey, it's my week to indulge. You eat dockside at long picnic tables, and get to meet and enjoy the company of really nice people with the same passion for great food. So this place was highly recommended by our Airbnb hosts and we thought let's go. It was at least an hour or longer for us to drive here. When we showed up there was a slow moving line to get I. The door to order. The weather was showing impending doom but we were not deterred. I have had quite a few lobsters in my life but this goes down as some of the largest ones I've ever eaten. You order your lobster by relative poundage and the. They get them and weight them to figure out your total. Everything except for butter is an extra. We ordered 3 2+ lb lobsters and one 1.5 lb lobster. Mine was huge and man the shell was so thick you could not even break it with crackers and we had to beg the staff to bring out something industrial and then it was even a challenge. Beautiful little spot to sit outside by the harbor and eat fresh-caught lobster. Our friend's parents took us here for dinner, and the wait was looong. But eventually we got our food. It was my first time have lobster, but it wasn't bad at all! And everybody else at the table loves it. I had the somewhat unusual experience of going here as a non-seafood eater. It's a charming little shack with lots of seafood items and a few non-seafood, with lots of tables outside on the dock so you sit right by the water. I went with my friend on a gorgeous Sunday at noon and the line was pretty long but moved quickly. I'd say we stood in line for about 15 minutes and waited another 10 or so for our orders to be called. We managed to find a place to sit for the two of us but it would have been difficult with a bigger group. I ordered the veggie burger and split onion rings with my friend. The veggie burger was ok - the patty itself seemed to be rice-based and was rather flavorless, but I'm not surprised that vegetarian food isn't their forte. It came with chips, though I could have upgraded to fries for $2. The onion rings were amazing - perfectly crispy with a flavorful batter. We were on an excursion in Boothbay and HAD TO stop by here before heading back in to Boston for some lobster recommended by our friend. We arrived around 5:30pm just 30minutes before closing. There was a line and we were able to get our order in by 5:53pm (cutting it close I know!). Plenty of seating outdoors with a beautiful view of the water and the islands. It got a little spooky when the fog started coming in from the ocean. Since it was an overcast day and close to sun set the sandflies were out and huge - I was in shorts but thankfully I wasn't bitten which is shocking because I'm usually a target. We ordered from the red shack and got the lobster rolls served with Ruffles plain chips, corn, slaw as well as a haddock chowder and a new shell lobster to share. The cashier will bring out a lobster and weigh it on the scale in front of you. They take about 15-20minutes to have your order ready. By far some of the freshest lobster I've ever had. The whole lobster is boiled in salted water - I'm not sure if a lot of places do this or not but it was new to me. read more

We stopped here at the recommendation of a friend and absolutely loved our experience! It's post-Labor Day so only the Lobster shack was open, but that was what we were here for. The line was daunting but it moved fast. Trust the process! Lobsters aren't any fresher than what you get here. There are picnic tables spread out in various areas for you to sit and enjoy your meal. Beautiful view, clams were great. Fried haddock sandwich was flimsy, and could have used more dredging, before fry. Onion rings were doughy and slightly undercooked in spots(would not order again). I prefer the lighter crunchy fry shack style, which is available at many NE summer spots. The French fries seemed shack made and were better than average, they come with the clams. Would definitely order the clams again, but would forgo the other items and get twin lobsters etc from the steamer hut. We saw a couple people with cans of beer but didn't find anywhere to purchase. Not sure if it's legal to bring your own? That's definitely a question I have before we go back. There are picnic tables all around. I brought water and soda from our car. I have been coming to Five Islands since 2008 and I think the quality was not what I expected at this visit. I just do not believe you are getting a premium lobster roll for the price anymore. The service is counter service and it was fine. The tables have a spectacular view and you might enjoy it just to eat seafood in suck a lovely location. We finally found the Five Islands Lobster Pound and it is a beautiful place to spend a Maine dinner! Let me start with the most obvious thing about Five Islands Lobster Pound - THE SETTING IS GORGEOUS!!! The surrounding water, the actual 5 islands, the quaint boats gently bobbing in the tidewater around us - all conspire to create a quintessential Maine location that cannot be outdone anywhere! The restaurant itself is very rustic. It is outside - you sit on park benches to eat. You peepee in porta-potties and there is no soap to wash your hands. So, please be prepared for all of this. You have to understand that you are walking back into time about a generation. There simply are very few places left in the world like Five Islands. That is part of the charm! If you want a place that reminds you of the very best of Maine, this is it! There are 3 shacks on the pier: (1) for handheld sandwiches and tshirts; and (2) one for full lobster meals; and (3) one for ice cream. You might want to have someone in your party go sit at a table because it will be crowded. We were there on a cool July day (I cannot even imagine how the words "cool" and "July" go together but they do in Georgetown Maine. So be sure to take a light jacket. Plus you are surrounded by ocean on 3 sides so there will always be a nice cool breeze. We got the haddock chowder, the haddock sandwich, full lobster meal, hamburger (not recommended) and onion rings. All delicious and all so big that it will be a challenge to finish them. I do not recommend the hamburger here; it was clearly a pre-formed patty that was probably purchased that way. But, seriously, why in the heck are you going to a place called "Five Island Lobster Pound" for a hamburger??? That judgement must be questioned to begin with. Whatever - the seafood is fresh, plentiful and you can see it on the boats that surround the lobster pound. This place is the real deal! You place your order and then you wait for them to call your order number. This is the hard part! The picnic tables are far away from the food so it is hard to hear them. But, again, that does not change my opinion of this place. Indeed, it's all part of the charm! This place has really grown on me over the years of visiting. The scallops are really good (lightly fried) and I finally tried the big boy lobster roll (a bit pricey but it's HUGE and has .5 lb meat). I even got a really soft hoodie this time. Definitely splurged this year but it was worth it. Ice cream is good as usual though I think the portion sizes shrunk. The absolute best place in Maine for lobster AND onion rings! I've been coming here for since I was a kid and it's remained stellar food and experience. With plenty of outdoor picnic tables overlooking the water and Maine islands, this lobster shack is perfect for a messy family dinner or a nice meal off the boat. The lobster is so fresh, that the fishermen pull up their boat and sell their freshly caught lobster right at the dock next to the restaurant. The red shack is where you will order fresh lobster by the pound, specials such as clams or any catch of the day. We got the twin lobster special, which are 2 identical lobsters for $24!! Your order is not called by a number or your name, but by the boat that caught the lobsters you are about to feast on! The grey shack is where the grilled items and lobster rolls are served. We thought... go big or go home. So, we both got the Big Boy Lobster Roll, which was complete unnecessary but well worth it. This footlong lobster roll was so fresh and the lobster so sweet, it was delightful. We also got the clam chowder or course, which complimented the rolls nicely. All of the tables are outside with amazing view of the Maine waters. It is hard to explain how picturesque this area is. You just have to come see it and eat it to believe it. Location is quite impressive. Seafood choices are very fresh. You can get fresh lobster (cooked or take home) right from the water. My family got the lobster roll, homemade onion rings, and Jenny's special (with the mustard dill sauce, which was packed with great flavor). Cheap ingredients, with expensive prices. Steamed lobster: The butter tastes like it's diluted with Whirl. An artificial butter substitute. The Haddock Chowder had no flavor other than "butter" a hint of cream but mostly tasted like milk. They are 100% NOT using a fish stick or base. Onion rings. Though they are freshly made, no effort was made to keep them from being a giant inedible hunk of onion in a batter pile. It's all hype and they do not deliver. No bathroom, no running water. There was a boat that caught a huge tuna and was unloading it onto a truck. This is the real deal and the real maine. Prices are very good. They have a menu board that changes daily. First off, you won't find a better view, no matter the price you spend on lunch. The haddock portions aren't huge, but big enough to be filling. My daughter got the chicken fingers, which WAS a huge portion for the price! It was all very tasty.
