I've asked her to do a handful of tough colors (silver, grey, pink) on my hair and she's knocked it out of the park every time. Another thing that keeps me coming back is that Lindsey is always upfront about the longevity and maintenance of the style/color I'm aiming for. I always leave with a gorgeous hair-do that I feel comfortable up-keeping on my own until I see Lindsey again. This review is about Akiko the nail tech. The Salon owner, Nancy Angelair, runs a great operation. Her salon is clean and her people are really qualified. The receptionist Edwin is a gem - always happy to assist. And one of her greatest hair stylists is Miwa - kind, terrific at her craft. My issue with Akiko. She will never discuss her pricing. Her workmanship is great, but her attitude is not. If you dare ask her about her various prices, she becomes a bully and rude. She will not be accountable. With her it is basically take it or leave it. This is unfortunate because she knows the nail business. As an aside, she dislikes working on the nails of clients who have disabilities. This was not my situation but I witnessed it a few years ago. Totally unacceptable. read more

There are not many gel nail salons in Chicago. When I found this salon that had a gel nail service, I was very excited about it. Akiko did her best but compared her skill to the price I paid (more than $120,) the quality was overpriced. She put too much gel on my nails that looked so thick. I got my hairline breed a bit because she cut cuticle too much. It took 3hours just doing new nails (I didn't remove any gel) It was a year ago. I hope her skills get better by now. read more

I looked forever for a soak off gel manicurist that could do minimal art or cool designs, she is the only on in the whole city, and my manicures NEVER break. I had to work out of town, the manicurist there screwed up everything and caused temporary damage to my nail, I came back and Akiko took the time to fix everything. Worst worst hair service I ever had. I cut 2in + perm and requested a "relaxed, loose curl". Guess what! my hair turned out to be curly like the ethnic curly hairs (no offense). Didn't he understand the meaning of relaxed/loose curl? My hair is naturally straight but is thin and easy to maintain. I also have lots of hair, means that I am not like one of the "difficult" hair clients. I went back to home and took shower right on that day, but unfortunately it was still too curly. I ended up buying curl remover and applied it twice to get the curls removed (I feel so bad on my hair). Now I have somewhat straight hair but this time, I figured out the haircut is awful. The lengths on both sides are not matching + I have weird short hair that looks like long bang, which I can't understand. They are too short that I can't even tight in. The stylist was Mark and I can believe that I spent over 200 bucks to get this sh*t. He didn't even checked my hair periodically while I was neutralizing. The sampoo person did half of the works. A long filmography doesn't represent that he is skilled. Worst hair service I ever had in my life. read more

This is going to be a long one because I have so many nice things to say! Like Stef, I followed Miwa to Nancy Angelair and have seen her a few times since. The staff is always warm and friendly- no pretense or bad attitudes here! The work is high quality and the prices are very reasonable. Before I found my beloved Miwa, I paid much more for much less. She's been my stylist for about eight years and I would never go to anyone else. Miwa is talented, attentive, considerate and one of the nicest people you'll ever meet. I have a dry, frizzy, curly mop that doesn't respond to any product out there. I spent almost 10 years fighting with my hair. Miwa turns it into the silky, shiny, soft and swingy hair of my dreams. If you're sick of sweating it out in front of the mirror trying to get a smooth blowout, go see Miwa for a relaxer. Unlike the keratin treatment, it won't fade out in a few months and it's much less damaging in the long run. This may sound petty, but it WILL change your life. For cuts, she is a perfectionist and respectful of what you want. You'll never get six inches cut off when all you asked for was a trim. I trust her so much that I sit in her chair and tell her to do whatever she wants. She's also very honest. If you come to her for a treatment and she doesn't think it would work for you or that it would damage your hair, she will say no! In the end, she only has your satisfaction in mind. She's not happy unless you're happy. Miwa also did my wedding. She styled me, my mom, grandma, MIL and maid of honor. Needless to say, she did a beautiful job! If she decided to move to another city, I would fly to see her. She is that good. And when she retires, I will go back to looking like Cameron Diaz in Being John Malkovich. Until then, I know that Miwa will keep my hair looking fabulous. read more

I have to disagree with the other reviewer who commented on Ingrid. I did not intend on writting a review tonight, I was merely looking to get the new address of the salon. When I came across that review, I felt compelled to write my own experience. I've been a very long time client of Ingrid and I have followed her to three salons over her career. I started with her when I was in my early to mid-twenties. My style and needs were totally different than they are now. She has always listened, given great feedback, and ultimately provided me with a stellar look every time I've gone to her (every 8-12 weeks regularly), and every time I've gone through a life evolution. My look has changed a lot since I was 24-25. When I started with her I had long, blonde, highlighted hair and I living in the Gold Coast as a single woman. She helped me transition back to my natural color (brunette) and really did wonders with the awkward "grow out" phase at about 28 years old. To take someone who had been blonde since age 13 and gracefully, stylishly take them to being a brunette takes a true color genius. I knew I had found an exceptional colorist/stylist in Ingrid. She did my wedding when I was 34 years old and one thing, besides my dress, that most people remember about my wedding, was my hair. She created a timeless, yet very stylish up-do, that did not look wedding or prom. It was much more of a Oscars Red Carpet look. Several people have commented even a year later, that I had the best hair because it did not look like "wedding hair". It was gorgeous and fashionable. She also did all of my bridesmaids. EVERYONE was so impressed with her style, demeanor, and talent. I had some very picky bridesmaids who worked in fashion in New York and LA. They could be hard to please, but they were all thrilled with Ingrid. She gave all of my guests the same personalized, attentive,and creative attention to detail that she gives me every 8-12 weeks. She continues to cut and color my hair even now that I am 35+ year old, married woman, who lives in the suburbs, and is a working mom with a new 3 month old baby. She always makes time for me and my crazy schedule that affords little flexibility. I always feel like a priority and she goes above and beyond to accomodate my schedule. She never makes me feel rushed. I always leave feeling beautiful and well taken care of. I have also referred at least five girlfriends that I can think of right now to Ingrid and they all still go to her to this day. No one has ever been anything less than happy with her at any time. The staff at Nancy Angelair Salon has also been wonderful. I cannot say that about the staff at her last salon, so I feel very strongly about giving credit to the people that Ingrid works with every day. Elaine (receptionist) is always friendly and welcoming. She has also done wonders with working on the schedule when I've needed to make a change (even last minute). Jonathon (assistant/shampoo) is spectacular too. He is incredibly attentive and provides a fabulous shampoo experience. I'm here for nails today. Akiko booked me for 5 hours for mani and pedi with design. She is very meticulous and puts the time in to clean everything. I loved her work and the attention to detail. Worth the wait. If I lived here...I would be a regular. I found her through Yelp, searching for Japanese nail art. She stays up to date on the nail art trend in japan and sounds like she goes back often to continuously get more training. She is absolutely the best! Worth every penny. I think I have found my go-to Hair salon and stylist - Justin is simply amazing. I have tried a lot of different salons in the past (my blond hair grows out so fast so it needs highlights every ~2 months ) and Justin understood my preferences from the get-go and knew exactly how to make it the perfect blond. My hair is also very thick and it takes a good while to apply the highlights and then cut it. The layers he put in there (i hate having such thick hair so i always request layers) were perfect! Justin puts so much focus, passion and precision into his work - the results from his service exceeded my expectations and I will definitely return. FRANK, FRANK, FRANK! I cannot recommend him enough. His work will make you feel like the best version of yourself. I go for a cut and color, and sometimes just a haircut. How can a haircut change the way you feel? I didn't really know until I started seeing Frank. He encourages me to go, ever so slightly, out of my comfort zone, which is what I need. He is a great conversationalist, and will make you laugh and smile while getting your hair done. I have quite a few female friends that I've recommended Frank to, and they are all very happy with their haircuts. To the Owners/ Managers of Nancy Angelair Salon, I just hung up with your receptionist and am so put off that I've resorted to filling out this review, I never do this. I have short hair and have had bad cuts in the past; I've learned to be diligent in my research of only top tier salons hoping to find a Master Stylist, an expert in cutting and styling short hair. Online reviews - be they from a magazine or a current/ former client - were all favorable and I became easily convinced that your salon was the one for me. I told the receptionist that I would be a new client and asked if she could suggest the stylist with the most expert experience cutting short hair. She responded with a curt tone that made it clear my inquiry was an inconvenience. She said she didn't know and asked if I first checked your website to find myself a stylist. This is disconcerting for two reasons, not only did she snub a potential new client she made it evident that she knows very little about her place of business. As irresponsible as it sounds, I've spent upwards of $250.00 on a haircut. I would've been willing to pay whatever the cost for an exceptional cut at your salon. I have been going to Noel Shaw for my haircuts since he joined Nancy Angelair and he is a GENIUS. He really understands how hair behaves, how cuts will look on you, and how to fix hair problems. For example, my hair is wavy and if it's too layered it looks messy and if it's not layered enough it looks limp on top but poofy at the bottom. Whether I go longer or shorter he's able to balance the cut better than any stylist I've had before. read more

I followed my long time hair stylist Alexis Florentino here and both he and Nancy Angelair Salon are great. Alexis is always up on the latest hair trends and has suggestions for new styles or color variations we can try with my curly hair. I like variety and he always delivers. When ombre was big not long ago we did that. We explored black and copper streaks and color variations based on the season and all have worked out really well. Cutting curly hair isn't always easy but he has a way of making it work so it flows naturally and is easy to manage. On his advice I went longer and even tried bangs, which I have never had before and didn't think I could pull off with curly hair, and both ended up easy to manage and fun to wear and made me feel (and look) great. He also did my hair for my wedding a year and a half ago. Alexis is personable and easy to talk to and will listen to concerns, questions or suggestions that you have for what to do. I trust him and his knowledge so appreciate hearing his suggestions, which often surprise me and work out well as I've noted above. I always get compliments on his work on my hair. Nancy Angelair is a modern salon with a really comfortable vibe. It's in a great location, easy to get to and full of really nice people willing to get you water, a glass of wine or even order and deliver food for you from the downstairs sushi place Jellyfish (which is really good) that you can eat while you are waiting for color to set. There is no attitude there, which I really like. As a result of my experience I recommend Nancy Angelair salon and Alexis in particular. read more

Derek is the best stylist in the city, hands down. Since moving to Chicago 7 years ago, I have been struggling to find someone who really knows how to cut and shape my hair. Its wavy and thick, and with the wrong cut it looks terrible. My friend recommended Derek at Nancy Angelair salon, and right away he saw the flaws other stylists had made. Uneven layers, too blunt, etc. After my first haircut, I couldn't believe how light my hair felt and healthy it looked. I have been seeing her for about 2 years now and always, always get compliments on my hair. She does both cut and color and is a perfectionist with everything. Since I was in the womb my mother has been going to Danny Heaps for her hair needs - starting from the illustrious I. Magnin Salon on Michigan Ave. to Rueve on Dearborn and now Nancy Angelair - I have followed in mom's footsteps and only allowed Danny to handle my precious locks since birth. The best color in Chicago, always commented on by strangers and friends alike - my updos are always unique and stunning and the haircuts are perfection. In 30 years no one else has touched a hair on my head - except Nancy herself who did my senior prom updo and the 2 drunk friends that gave me bangs one New Years Eve (Danny fixed em of course). The new space is super chic and open. Maggie & Hattie are the best head scrubbers around, Elaine is a gem and keeps the place running smoothly. I have been going to Ingrid for about 6 years. I'm so happy with this stylist. She never pushes me to do extra treatments (unlike other stylists) and warns me even if I want something that my hair will be damaged. Indeed my previous stylist ruined my hair with chemical treatments that I paid hundreds for per treatment. Ingrid looked at my hair and forbade me from doing any more chemical processes, told me that I didn't need them and even lectured me about how nice my hair is naturally. She changed my opinion of my own hair and it looks healthy, full and natural. Ingrid is VERY smart and practical. As an attorney I need that, I have no time for anything else.
