Initially when I started driving at 16 years old I was with State Farm with Darren Featherstone for over a decade and then I eventually switched to eSurance. I wasn't happy with their service. I am a creature of habit of and it was very hard for me to try new things. So then I went back to State Farm but with Rivers Schara when I moved to San Antonio. Then eventually I relocated back to my hometown Austin and was with Nancy Callahan. All in all I always found my way back to State Farm. I was initially on a multi-car discount on a policy with my x-husband. And when we separated I reached out to Janet Ruiz who was my primary contact and addressed my new transition. She was very understanding and told me not to worry that she would take care of me. I have moved from apartment to apartment and they are so prompt with updating anything I needed with my renter's insurance. I got into a car wreck with my rental and they helped addressed issues and guided me into whom to call and the process. Customers need to understand that your agent doesn't handle claims. You have to call a separate number! I also recently have to relocate for my job out of state and told them my automobile will be parked in a garage in Texas and they gave me options that will meet the Texas requirements. I have no issues with them whatsoever. They have exceeded my expectations in everything. I was so happy with them that I sent their team cookies from Tiff's Treats. Client Customer Service is very important to me because quality over quantity is vital to me. They don't treat me like a number but like I am actually part of the family. I have honestly NEVER stepped foot in their offices because everything is addressed via email, phone, or even through their user friendly phone application. After my accident, Nancy Callahan's SF office treated me horribly! 1. On day of accident, SF insisted on towing my wrecked vehicle to my house (12-miles away) rather than a nearby repair shop. I couldn't agree bc I was having an open house at that time at my house. So, standing on side of highway, stressed, hurt, with a million cars going by, I didn't feel like arguing w/SF about it, so I paid $75 to join AAA and get the car towed to the nearest body shop across the highway - less than 1/2 mile. 2. A couple days later, SF towed my car to my mechanic for repair. My mechanic said it is fixable and that the estimator would come next day to appraise. Since I heard nothing to the contrary, I thought my car was being fixed. Two weeks later, when I called to see when I could pick up my car, I was surprisingly told that SF had not yet approved the repair. 3. When I called SF to see what was going on, I was told a check for repairs had been sent to Service King, but SF had actually sent the check to the wrong body shop. SF said they were going to cancel the check and reissue a new check to 5-Star for repair. Then suddenly, SF agent discovered in the notes the car had been deemed a "total loss!" What? How can there be so much confusion about 1) whether car is repairable, 2) where to send the repair check? Total confusion! 4. Now, I was within 4-days of having to return my rental car. SF only agreed - after much pleading - to extend the rental 2-days. 5. Since there was so much confusion, and I REALLY needed my car for my part-time job and to look for a permanent job (recently laid off), I called my local SF agent, Aspen, for help. In the past, I had found her to be helpful and was encouraged when she promised to "go to bat for me." But, in my next call, Aspen had nothing new to report. When I questioned the confusing way things were being handled, she rudely said it wasn't her job to handle claims. Honestly, I thought that was part of the role of an SF agent to help clients if needed. Maybe I am wrong on this, but considering all the SF screw ups, I think she could've explained that in a nicer way. So, apparently, "Like a good neighbor, State Farm is there." is just a good motto, not a reality. 6. To add insult to injury, I had Purchased Gap insurance at the time of purchasing the car, 9-months before, but when I inquired about this at the time of agreeing to my settlement (only $207 personal compensation after loan payoff), SF told me my gap insurance wasn't applicable in this case for some inexplicable reason, but my understanding was that SF's payoff check covered everything - the entire balance of the loan. WRONG AGAIN! 7. Next, I was shocked to discover that A+ FCU (loan owner) had pulled two car payments from my bank account AFTER the accident. They said they DID "REVERSE" ONE draft by putting it into an A+ FCU Savings Account, which I didn't even realize existed, nor did I authorize. Furthermore, I never received any A+ statement to this effect. Quite possibly, I would have never discovered this mistake or regained that money had I not happened to come across it while going over my bank statements and decided to call about it. Furthermore, A+ said they retained $233 of the *2nd* $250 draft to cover the DIFFERENCE in the loan payoff and the loan balance! What? I thought SF had covered everything. I had been told SF's payoff would settle the balance! 8. Immediately, I made a 3-way call between A+ and SF. SF agent said *Gap Insurance* is usually used to payoff the remaining balance, but she would ask Aspen to follow up with me since she didn't know all details. 9. Aspen called and when I informed her about the situation and asked, in a normal voice, about the difference in the loan payoff and the balance due and why I had not been advised that I didn't need gap insurance, Aspen, rudely told me in a very emotional and condescending voice, "It is not my job to manage your finances!" Wow! I was totally stunned. I didn't expect to be so sternly slapped down by this "professional." I didn't feel I was asking her to "manage my finances," I was asking for an explanation on why I had been improperly advised about my right to receive gap insurance and the necessary steps to take to right that error. Truthfully, I was in an accident for which I still have pain six week later. My car was totaled at the worst possible time in my life. The case was bungled from day one. I have had nothing but an uphill battle trying to obtain the small compensation due to me. State Farm gets no credit for being like a good neighbor. Is this the best they can do to show appreciation for the more than 20 years of loyalty? Truthfully, I never want to deal with SF again on anything, but they still cover my house, so until it sells, I guess I have no choice. At the end of the day, it's about how unnecessarily RUDE and UNHELPFUL ASPEN's attitude was, as well as SF's INCOMPETENT way of handling this whole matter that is so disappointing. read more

I was helped with my auto insurance and even with a discount for putting my home insurance with them. After requesting quotes for three investment rental properties, the clerk contacted us requesting my date of birth. I said I don't provide that kind of information without a reason, and that reason was not apparent given that we're seeking quotes for investment rental properties. (Auto insurance I can understand - insurers rate risk based on driver's age, but home insurance?) I asked for the reason, interested in learning about the need for that information. Their response? Nancy Callahan has been our only Insurance Agent since 1983, yes that's over 32 years now and still counting. We have been approached many times in those years and asked to change to another company to save some money or get 'better' service. You have heard their little jingle "Like a good neighbor - State Farm is there!", I can assure that Nancy Callahan and her staff must have been the original agent that State Farm used to create that little jingle. Whatever the issue has been for us, including the Halloween Flood of 2013, they have been there. That day I did actually have to use my phone to say the jingle of course but Nancy's staff "suddenly appeared" at our flooded home bearing help, food, and most of all some hugs that we really needed. Terrible insurance experience. This insurance agent will not help you when you are in an accident. Their motto should be "We help the other guy get your money". We were rear ended at a stop light and this State Farm group decided it was out fault even thought we were not moving and were hit from behind at a red light. After arguing with them and multiple calls we got no where. They didn't bother to follow up with us, we had to call them every time. We are now with another company and pay much less for more insurance and better service. read more
