This place in in allllllll the tourist materials so steel yourself for a very painful experience. Our food was 'bleh', the service was slow and unenthused, and the atmosphere felt crafted in a way that is soul-gutting. The prices are inflated to accommodate the coupon they give every person who rides the site seeing bus. We didn't have the coupon and found the prices wildly out of sorts with the quality of food presented. The only reason we came here is because it was walking distance from our Airbnb. If we ever are in Dublin again, we won't be back. We had much nicer experiences at every single other restaurant/bar we visited in the city. read more

While I can't even begin to guess at the meaning of the name, there's no mystery to why Nancy Hands on Parkgate Street is doing so well. On the ground floor the huge pub is split into three areas with bars in each. Seats are plentiful and tables clean, though on busy nights general noise from patrons, TVs and the sound system is inescapable. Service is smooth when things are quiet, and it's the perfect time to talk to the bar man about the speciality whiskies in those big glass cabinets behind the bar. If you're not in a drinking mood a selection of teas and coffee is available, just watch out for those splits; at €2.70 for a small glass bottle of Diet Coke it's easy to empty the wallet without trying. A bar menu serves a rather rich selection of proper dishes and finger food -though my gut says beware of fishcakes branded as "seafood". Expect to shell out anywhere from €12 to €16 for lunch. Anyway, if you're really hungry, there's a proper family style restaurant and carvery upstairs serving all day. With a dinner menu packed with classics like fish and chips. lamb and porkchops, dinners here are what I think of as traditionally Irish: simple, plate-loading and smothered in gravy (incidentally, Nancy's menu is the first outside of Temple bar that offers boxty). While perhaps feeling just a bit more commercial than other nearby pubs, but without the pomp and diddly-aye music of its bretheren in Temple Bar, Nancy Hands is an excellent option for explorers wandering off the beaten tourist path in town. read more

We went here on our last night in Dublin and it was quite a walk from our hotel. But we love walking and it was definitely worth it! It's divided into a many-roomed, comforting pub, with sports on in some rooms, not in others, and a big old-school wooden bar. Our waitress, like most everyone we met in Dublin, was kind and easy to talk to, and made us feel at home in what was clearly a more local pub than some of the places we had been to. Our meeting finished early... 45 mins to kill until the next one and Paul (my colleague) said "I know this great cafe where we can grab an early lunch" ..the great cafe seems to have closed sometime in the mid 1970s... Paul is 40... how did he know about the cafe? could he remember it from 40 years ago or is he actually a time traveler.. and if so, why is he working with me instead of looking at live dinosaurs or zooming into the future to do something interesting in space? While I was pondering, Paul spotted Nancy Hands... it looked OK, we were hungry and under pressure, so we gave it a bash. Really - tasty pub food? Is it possible? Nancy hands is a fantastic place to enjoy the wonderful pub traditions of Dublin; AND get a great meal. On top of the great food - the service is awesome . . . in-spite of the fact that they are always super busy. I must admit, I wasn't expecting much when we went to Nancy Hands for a post conference get-together. I expected that I would get a pint and then head off for dinner at a restaurant on my own. When, the evening kept going on-and-on, so I decided to get food. That was a great move. The traditional Irish pub food on their menu is awesome. Super tasty. Very approachable and easily matched to the non-Irish eaters palette. I loved the fact that the Shepard's pie included meats prepared in Guinness. I also loved the fact that the waiter tried to help me find items on the menu that match met particular leanings. The french fries (chips) were delicious. With over 40 people in our party, we had everything on the menu. I heard not a one negative review. In fact, everyone to a person was extremely complimentary to the food and the service . . . and we went on a Friday night to boot. read more

Nice bar. Good place for a few beverages and food. Nothing too fancy, just your typical pub grub. Good place to relax in the beer garden on a sunny day. Check in out. Stones throw from the train station and near park gate to Phoenix Park. It's a good shout if you've time to kill before/after a train journey. I think they've music some nights! read more

Gluten free menu at lunch consisted of 2 choices- soup and cod. Regular bread was served with the soup. Having visited specifically because a gluten free menu was highlighted, this was disappointing. Other food was okay at best. The cheese in the Falafel and cheddar sandwich was 'rubber' American style sliced cheese. We wandered into this restaurant after a long day of sightseeing. We instantly found it to be comfortable and a great environment. The staff were friendly and welcoming. Our waiter was kind and funny and knowledgeable about the menu. We ordered steaks, seafood, appetizers, desserts. All were stellar and off the charts. The steak was the star of the show. If you go here, please order it. Grass fed Irish beef cooked to perfection with delicious sauce and sides. By far the best meal we have the entire 11 days we spent in Ireland. If we had time, we would have gone back. So instead, we told all of the other tourists we ran into that it was the place to eat dinner. I came here with my tour group so we had a pre fix menu with a few options for starters and mains. I loved the atmosphere of the pub and the owner welcomed us graciously and told us the story of Nancy, the original owner. The shelves behind the bar are old apothecary shelves that were repurposed to hold the spirits. And the staircase originally resided in Trinity College! We had a lovely time and a lot of fun! I went here on a Saturday night to watch a friend play, she is a regular pianist there. It really is a beautiful spot, the decor has that old world charm and the service is friendly. It's just a pity that not many locals or Dublin dwellers frequent it as much as they should. It is a bit of a tourist spot, I believe one of the bus companies deposits them here... So the Orish feel may get jarring. I just had a starter and although tasty (the fish cake) the portion was too small for me. Would I return again? Stopped in on our way to a concert and ordered drinks and one app. Since we were in a hurry, I ordered what I thought would be the easiest, quickest thing. A cheese plate. Cut a few wedges, throw some grapes and crackers on the plate, and ta da, it's done. After we ordered, a large bus let off outside and about 50 people came in. 15 minutes later, a waitress approached our table, and informed us that she didn't know when or if we'd get our app, because they just had a large group arrive. I was talking about Nancy Hands earlier today and realized I never reviewed it! Sham on me! I ate here twice while in Dublin. Once for dinner and once for snack while purposefully getting day drunk. Dinner here was amazing! Delicious meat & potatoes, a perfect pint of Guinness and a wonderful Bar staff. They apparently have an upstairs with seating made of pews and there is a Whiskey Bar separate from the main one just a step down into the Living room. When I was here before I left for Portrush I had many pints & the beat bread pudding of my life thus far. So much so we ordered a second one later on because sharing the first one got ugly. This is a great place for the traveler or Non-Natives because everyone here was lovely and the food was amazing! read more

Nice smoking area both upstairs and downstairs. It honestly wouldn't be my first choice of places to go but apart from Ryan's next door, it's the only place I would attempt to drink in in the area. What a great experience spending time at Nancy Hands! Not many people know this but Dom is the most famous movie star bartender in all of Japan. After a serendipitous bus accident, we ventured into this authentic Irish pub rich with tradition. The locals were very kind and gracious and the staff was simply wonderful. I learned about Nancy Hands from the Irish Whiskey Trail website, and I'm really glad I made the trek. It's a solid 20 minute walk down the River Liffey from Temple Bar, and though there isn't much to see, it's a pleasant and pretty walk. The pay off though, is a bar that's oozing with charm and filled with excellent whiskey (and whisky). When we first walked in we saw the table taps and considered getting a pint for the novelty, but decided to stay focused on the whiskey. When I asked the bar tender for a whiskey menu, he said that he was the whiskey menu and to meet him in the back room. So we walked down there, and lo and behold, on the shelf behind him were no fewer than 200 whiskies, all lined up and ready for pouring. He was extremely enthusiastic about serving us. He let us try a couple different drams, showed off a technique for warming the glass that releases the aromas, and was very generous with the pours. In other words, he was enthusiastic about sharing whiskey with other whiskey lovers. Exactly what I was looking for. In addition to an excellent Kilbeggan and Redbreast, he poured us a taste from a fascinating bottle of scotch that had no label and tasted unlike any whisky I'd ever had. In addition to the incredibly friendly service, the bar has a vintage look that really adds to the experience. Many of the windows and decorations were brought in from an old church, adding a decorative and welcoming look. I'd make that 20 minute walk again in the heartbeat. read more

We were walking around and stumbled across Nancy Hands looking for a place to have dinner, and this was an amazing find. The service was pleasant, it wasn't TOO noisy (it is a pub after all), and the food was downright amazing. We got the seafood platter to share as an appetizer. It was delicious-- even my husband who doesn't particularly like smoked cured salmon even ate that from the platter. It was a big enough sized portion that we were both a little full before we even got our main entrees (cooked salmon+veggies and surf+turf). Nancy Hands needs more hands on deck. Our waitress, let's call her Becky (idk her name bc she didn't introduce herself), was basically non-existent even though the place was empty. And on the rare occasion she did grace us with her presence, she was angsty and seemed slightly annoyed with us just asking for more water, which most of the time, we had to seek out for ourselves. The atmosphere is nice if you are looking for an authentic Irish feel or a place to watch the World Cup, as there is a plethora of TVs. But, if you want attentive, friendly service, seek nourishment elsewhere. If you are brave enough to go to Nancy hands after the comments above, here is the review on the food: average. Good solid restaurant. They serve Guinness and have a good pub food menu, which a lot of pubs don't have. My kids likes the chicken nuggets, key while on holiday, and I thought he BLT was sublime. I'm unsure why this place has such high reviews. We came in on a rainy night for some local color and pub fare. Both were scant. Husband had a chowder that he said was pretty good. Not being a meat eater, I ordered one of the only non meat items on the menu, the nachos. Let me just clarify for the confused Irish folk: marinara sauce is not the same thing as salsa, and is disgusting on nachos. Additionally we were held hostage by the server who refused to let us pay for a solid 20-25 min after we were done eating. Huge pet peeve. The bar area looked like a much better idea. An unsuspecting pub with surprisingly exceptional food. I was staying down the street at the Ashling and it was a great choice for dinner after a really short walk. After my late flight, I had tried to get food around 10 o'clock as Yelp had originally told me that they were open past ten, but they stop serving food at 9, but stay open for drinks. Came back the following day after a bit of sight seeing and was pleasantly surprised. I had the chicken wings and later the chicken curry. All of the others on my group had excellent food. Well cooked and well presented. A+. Only con... The only cider they had on draft was Bulmers. I'm not too picky with ciders but that one's a little harsh.
