Unfortunately, the service was quite slow, and we had to flag down our waitress several times to get her attention. I ordered the goat cheese salad with chicken, which was good overall and had fresh, enjoyable flavors. However, there was simply too much goat cheese and dressing, which overwhelmed the other ingredients. With a lighter touch, the salad could have been excellent. The Church cafe bar was one of the best places in Dublin. Highly recommend the history tour and Irish coffee demonstration. This is only offered between 11am - 4pm. Call in advance to confirm a spot. The history tour and Irish coffee demonstration takes about 1 - 1.25 hours and costs $40 euros. Soooo worth it! Our tour guide was Becca and she was beyond amazing! She walked us through the entire church and shared the history of the building, the surrounding area, and fun facts like Arthur Guinness (founder of Guinness) had his wedding at that church. If you want to learn more, book the tour! Worth it!! After the history tour, Becca walked us through an interactive Irish whiskey demonstration. My husband and I got to make our own with Roe & Co. whiskey, fresh cream, coffee, and orange chocolate shaving. Delicious! After our tour and Irish whiskey demonstration, we stayed for dinner. Since we were on the whiskey train, we enjoyed a couple of whiskey sours (not an Irish drink, actually created in Wisconsin). For dinner, my husband got the chicken and I got the burger made with Irish beef. Both meals came with potatoes. My burger was so good! The perfect meal to go with all that whiskey. Do people come here for their outstanding food menu? To be honest, not really. The main attraction of eating here is that you can eat and look around & admire the amazing infrastructure. They really did a great job of keeping the interior of the church while building a eye-catching bar right in the middle of it. It's a really unique concept. I was able to walk around inside and it's all really well-made. You can even walk alongside the organ on the 2nd level. I did dine here with a few friends on my first trip to Dublin. I noticed that their menu is definitely on the up charge (due to the popularity of this experience), which is understandable. I personally chose to get the 8oz prime angus burger. It was decent NYC priced burger, so I was okay paying the price. It also came with some fries which were good. We all had a great time at the Church, especially from our mezzanine table and the ability to watch the musicians and dancers below. The former Church interior was stunning, as were the number of people here, and the guys at the entrance controlling "traffic". We had a reservation, so we were able to skirt the line and get right in. The mezzanine had a little more room, and our view of the interior Church architecture was impressive. The musicians/dancers did require a short move to the railing to get a better view. There was some disagreement regarding how well we enjoyed our dinner choices. I thought the that my Mussels (in wonderful cream sauce) and chips were super, while Gayle really liked the Grilled Cornfed Irish Chicken Supreme. Fern ordered what Gayle did and was less impressed, as was Don who stated that he had enjoyed better Fish and Chips elsewhere in this trip. The Adult beverage choices were the "usual": Murphy's Stout for me, Guinness for Don, a Whiskey Sour for Fern, and a Gin Martini for Gayle (switching later to Chardonnay). I thought our waiter was a real plus, with good insight on the menu, and patience of those who had questions. We also appreciated that the outer front stairway to get out was just a short walk from our table, and easily sidestepping any congestion. read more

I Stopped by The Church for oysters and drinks--this place was busy and clearly a popular spot. We were seated in the lower level, which unfortunately felt a bit like a dungeon and didn't quite capture the atmosphere we were hoping for. That said, the food and drinks were solid. We had a selection of 8 oysters, all incredibly fresh, and Irish coffees that were smooth and flavorful. The speculoos cookies served alongside were a great touch and paired perfectly with the coffees. After we finished eating, we went upstairs and finally got to admire the main church space--it was beautiful. Such a unique and fun way to honor the building's original architecture and history. Overall, while the downstairs seating was a bit of a letdown, the experience upstairs and the quality of the oysters and drinks made it a memorable visit which I'm glad we were able to see on our trip! read more

The service and food were pretty decent overall with prices that seemed in line with what you would expect from an establishment like this nowadays. The best food item we had was their stew, it was nice and hearty, though it needed a bit of extra seasoning along with some of the other food items. Went here for a quick late night bite after our first night in Dublin. My friend and I split fries and the Mango & Lime Chicken Wings. Typical bar food order but was pleasantly surprised by the tangy taste. I really enjoyed the wings! The fries were just very basic. We did get seated at an interesting table which you could definitely tell it was a church back in its day. I love historic buildings, especially those that had a former life than what stands today. And The Church is just that. It's a historic church in Dublin that now serves as a restaurant and bar. I had a pleasant time here. I needed to find sustenance, so asked the concierge at my hotel for nearby eateries, which is how I found The Church. Walking distance from my hotel, I visited on a Thursday night and even then, it was lively and packed with people. But the space is large, so I lucked out on getting a table as soon as I walked in. But I didn't have the best seat in the house, which is the bar or upstairs where you can see everything, including the stage of the singers and dancers! They have traditional Irish music performed here with the traditional dance, which was so fun to see! What a treasure for me to experience this on my first night in Dublin. For food, the menu had everything I was looking for, which was traditional, comfort, Irish meals. I ordered the lamb stew and a mulled wine, which came with two minced pies for the season. The lamb stew was delicious, with tender pieces of lamb and roasted carrots and potatoes in a hearty stew. The mulled wine had spices to it and was nice and warm. After I ate, the server said I could walk around the restaurant (since I was asking so many questions about the building), so walked up to the second floor where you can see the organ pipes and all throughout the restaurant and bar. I recommend getting a seat upstairs that overlooks the place if you're able to. The space is amazing and the service was great, but the food wasn't quite at the same level. The butter nut squash soup had great flavor with a hint of curry, but it was a little on the thin side. Appreciated the little house salad and the oysters were some of the best I've eaten. My wife ordered the salmon and I had the lamb stew. Of the two, the salmon was the better dish. Giving this restaurant a 5 just based on the atmosphere alone. It's a really cool environment with remnants of the church, but with a huge bar in the middle, presumably where the pews used to be. We sat upstairs, which is highly recommended, so you have views of the bar, the Irish dancing, and the entire restaurant. A reservation is a must, I would think, unless you want to stand in a long line, and even then, you might get a seat on the ground floor. The food was pretty good here. We ate at the restaurant on a Sunday, so we got their special Sunday menu. As a starter, we got the Pork Ribs and those were excellent. For dinner, I got the Traditional Irish Lamb Stew, which was just ok, I would say. Nothing out of the ordinary. But, my wife got the Sunday Roast and that was excellent. If I could order again, I would have ordered that as well. For dessert, we had the Apple Crumble which was very good. And then with the assorted drinks/wine/coffee, really made for a good meal and good experience. Back to the dancing. This occurs every night at 7 pm, I believe, and it's traditional Irish music along with the dancing. It might change, but the night we were there, there were two dancers. Who doesn't like going to church to have a few drinks? This was a place on my bucket list in Dublin and let me tell you I absolutely loved this place! I came here with a few friends and they were all delighted with the Irish traditional dancers that were dancing every half an hour after 6pm. We all loved music.. The ambiance...the Church bar maintained a lot of its religious items inside the church. There's still a huge pipe organ, saints and the stained glass windows. We loved the food. I ordered the special that night which consisted of a lamb burger and it was probably one of the best burgers I've had in a long time. Huge, juicy patty, well seasoned and you can taste the difference with grass fed organic food here vs the U.S. it just taste hella fresh and better in Ireland. We all loved our dishes. Our waiter was Ramses and he was super nice, attentive and very social with us. Shoutout to Ramses for his amazing customer service!! If hell had table service, it would look like this. Thought it'd be charming to eat dinner in an old church. Turns out, the only thing being resurrected here is my regret. Walked in expecting ambiance. Got attitude. Staff looked like smiling had been banned under some ancient curse. My server used fewer words than a monk in silent retreat -- and about the same amount of facial expression. Not even a nod. I've had warmer welcomes from vending machines. The place was empty, yet they sat me right next to another couple like we were speed dating in purgatory. Food took ages. When it finally arrived, it tasted like someone had punished it first. And then came the grand finale: the server asked what tip I'd like to leave. I said the customary 10% -- this is Ireland, not Vegas. But somehow, that translated into nearly 30% on the bill. So either math is different in this dimension, or she thought I wouldn't notice the divine act of robbery happening at the altar. Honestly? You're better off at a Marriott. Or a vending machine. Food was awful I couldn't even eat mine- salmon was extra dry/ extra well done, super fishy- the calamari was definitely re frozen and rubber band extra chewy , and the "pecorino" gnocchi had NO pecorino at all and way is a very VERY oily pesto. The food was ok. I got a steak dish, cant remember the name, but it had a lot of the fat which I don't like. The inside of the place looks really beautiful and if you want the experience then definitely try it out. What really bothered me was that I couldn't enjoy the food. I was being rushed constantly because another person had reserved the tables. I was given about an hour and 15mins, which included the time it took me to look at the menu and the wait time for the cooked food. At the end I only had about 30mins to eat everything. This place is utterly gorgeous, delicious, and musical. The ambiance is insane, and you are really transported in this chapel converted restaurant. The organ is still in tact, along with the high vaulted ceilings and stained glass. The music and dancing are excellent. The food is phenomenal. We got the cod and garlic potatoes with the mussels and it was HEAVENLY. The cod with the potatoes (substituted out the chorizo for the potatoes) was an amazing combo. The fish was perfectly cooked with a real delicious seasoning on the skin. The potatoes were out of this world and it was the perfect combo. We also got the large mussels which was HUGE. We could not even finish it, but it was exquisite. The cream sauce for the mussels had dill in it which was delicious, and the garlic bread paired perfectly. The atmosphere is something else. It really preserved the church aesthetic and feel while making it into a celebratory atmosphere complete with live Irish dancing and music all night.
