I'm a mismatched human. Long torso, shorter legs. Broad shoulders, shorter forearms. As a result some things just don't fit me right off the rack. Take pants for example, a 30 inch inseam is too short and a 32 inch inseam is too long. Sometimes I get lucky and find a 31, but I usually need alterations. I used to go to a place on Forest across the road from Westfield Valley Fair, but it stopped working for me so I found Nancy's Alterations & Cleaners, a spot conveniently located close to home. Walking in to Nancy's the first thing you notice is clothes everywhere. I have no idea how they can locate anything or do the work as fast as they do, but it seems to all turn out okay, at least all of my experiences have been good since I started using them three years ago. They are very no-nonsense. Walk in the door, wait to be greeted, tell them what you need. They will direct you to a room to put on the garment. Open the curtain when you are ready and the tailor will join you and quickly pin the item then ask you if that fit, length, etc... is okay. You affirm then they mark it, leave, closing the curtain behind them. Once dressed you come out and they tell you when it will be ready, typically the next day or following day. They also offer same-day service for a fee. In addition to alterations they do dry cleaning. I'm not sure if they do it on premise because I don't see the equipment, but the quality is good and the price is right so no complaints here. I don't do a lot of dry cleaning any more, I try very hard to avoid buying materials I can't maintain at home. Nancy's is an inexpensive, efficient tailor and cleaner. I recommend them. read more

I brought a Coach coat in for a 24 hour turn around on dry cleaning. When I received it back it had several red orange stains on the collar, body, and sleeve, long black animal hair on it, and black marks at the bottom of the coat. The woman said she saw her boss take my coat in and that her boss promised it to me by end of day the next day, but the woman said she didn't want to do it for me. As a person of color, that sounded very racist to me. The woman said I was obligated to give it back to them and allow them four more days to fix the damage to the coat, which I could not accommodate. I asked her to provide me the pink slip so I could take a picture of it. She refused. I told her I wanted my money back due to the damage to the coat. She also refused this. The manager did not seem to be around or available. I would not trust anything expensive to this place. They aren't honest about what they do with your items and don't seem to care if they damage your items. read more

I went in on a Monday to bring in a silk shirt with a stain I needed removed along with some black denim jeans that needed to be dry cleaned. I was told they would be ready by Friday. I went in to pick up my items and the shirt looked the same as I had dropped off, but ironed. The lady proceeded and told me she couldn't get the stain off and gave me this look I picked up like was lying to my face. I proceeded to go to target after and bought a Tide to-go pen to try to remove the stain myself and sure enough, I was able to remove the stain myself. Don't waste your money here, they will try to fool you if you look young. Take your business elsewhere. read more

This review is for denim alterations only. I've taken multiple of my daughters jeans here and they are perfect every time. She's curvy with a small waist. The waistline always looks very clean and the darts added to the back of the waist look like you bought the pants that way. Highly recommend. We've moved to the other side of town and I'll be driving over to drop off more pants this week. read more

I came here for the first Time to get some dry cleaning done. I ended up meeting Nancy which is the owner and she is a delight to meet. I took two blazers and one business slacks and it came out absolutely perfect. It was recently priced and not overly expensive. There is parking right in the front but there is additional parking towards the back which I didn't try because there is parking conveniently in the front at the time. I placed my order on Saturday and the soonest I was able to pick it up was on a Tuesday afternoon. I ended up not picking it up right on Thursday afternoon but several days later and another sweet lady was there to help me out. I was looking for a dry cleaner closer to my house and this spot looked promising. I dropped off 16 shirts on Thursday and they told me they could be done by Saturday which was a good turn around so I was optimistic. I asked the lady at the counter how much the shirts were going to be and she told me $3. Not an amazing price but it's super close to my house so I went with it. I arrived this afternoon to pick up my shirts and they were ready as promised but instead of 3 dollars a shirt she tried to charge me $4 I asked why the price had increased and she told me she charged me an extra dollar a shirt because my clothes were too big. Now in my 12 years of getting my work shirts dry cleaned I have never once been charged a fat tax. I argued with her saying you told me it was three dollars a shirt you saw my size when I walked in you cannot after the fact charge me more. She finally agreed to the 3 dollar price she had originally quoted me. Needless to say I will find somewhere else that doesn't have a hidden fat tax. Incredibly rude. read more

This is an update since my last ureview of Nancy's Alterations. After twice going to pick up my dress and it not being found, this afternoon i tried again. At first they said they still couldn't find it and then they changed their story and claimed i had already picked it up. They actually looked me in the eyes and lied! They both "remembered" when i came and picked it up. Kim said that i am old and forget things. I may be old but i am not senile. They are such accomplished liars that i was beginning to think that i came and picked it up....except i am just out of bed after a 2 week bout with Covid. During the argument, a woman calling herself Margaret and claiming she is an attorney came out of the dressing room to defend them. Margaret knew they were lying but it was to her best interests to help them....they have been doing her alterations for years and probably at a special price. If she really is a lawyer, she should be disbarred. I kept insisting that they give me my dress or compensate me for what i paid to purchase it. I was very angry because i am morbidly obese and it's so hard to buy suitable clothes. I was so happy to find such a nice dress....(sigh). My only recourse is small claims court and I am sure that i would win the case. Ubfortunately, my time is more valuable than the cost of the dress. So all i feel like doing is warning others to avoid this business. read more

I got my jacket sleeves shortened ($35), shirt sleeves shortened ($15), and pants hemmed ($15). Nancy was helpful and prompt, work was done on time, and everything looked good. Prices were on par or slightly lower than other tailors that I checked. Minus one star for the grumpy cashier/assistant (seamstress?). I nearly walked out while she took measurements and didn't appear to know what she was doing. Also rude with the checkout. Be sure you get Nancy (taller, glasses) to take your measurements. This place is close to my house, so I walked over to give them a try. I dropped off one cream-colored short sleeved blouse that is pleated in the back, plain in the front. I dropped it off on a Wednesday and was told it would be ready on Friday after 5. When I walked over to pick it up on Monday afternoon around 12 noon. They couldn't find my blouse and appeared to be confused. Everyone behind the counter looked for the missing blouse, for about 30 minutes. I began to worry when one of them made a phone call and spoke to someone on the other end in a foreign language that I didn't understand. I was then told that my blouse had a stain on it that they couldn't remove. This confused me because I have a stain phobia. I have been known to run out and buy a new blouse/shirt if I see a stain on my clothing. (Yep, I even keep a complete change of clothes in my trunk, along with my gym bag) The staff began to scold me on how my blouse was terribly stained. Let's take a breath and a step back. Please keep in mind that I am in cleaners and people take dirty clothes here to be cleaned. IF the shirt were stained when I dropped it off, they would have pointed it out to me, flagged it and charged an additional stain removal fee. That's how it works, especially when you only drop off ONE lonely solo item and pay cash for it to be cleaned. They told me to come back later after 2:30pm and pick it up. I don't think they were being honest with me about what actually happened ~ needless to say when I picked up my blouse it did not look as if it was professionally ironed. It wasn't crisp, and the hem was wrinkly not flat. I am speaking from a mid-western point of view as a woman who owns 2 irons and a steamer. I walked away as an unsatisfied customer, no one bothered to apologize for my inconvenience or bother to say have a nice day. I don't plan to give this one a second chance read more

First review and it's a shame that it's a bad one. Went there today and expected my order to be ready because they said Monday and it was Tuesday. And then I came and they were confused, didn't know where it was, some machine was broken... Blah, blah, blah. It's dry cleaning not brain science. I understand things happen but no one apologized, offered compensation, or even told what precisely was going on. And then she tried to tell me half of my order could be brought in in a few hours end the rest would be ready later! What the hell is that?!? Who splits up dry cleaning orders except for a customer? Dry cleaning is already made inconvenience that sometimes grants itself to be a necessity, but this really made it so much worse. Will never ever return. UPDATE: It's Thusrday and I finally got my clothes, needless to say her attitude was horrible, still didn't even get an apology and really no one even remembered they made a mistake. I thoguht I would bring my dress here since it is so convenient just 1 block away from home. Dropped it off on a Friday afternoon and the lady confirmed will be ready for pick up by Wednesday the next week. Decent enoguh 1 dress, 5 days. All it needed was to be taken in an inch since I lost a lot of weight from when I first bought it. It was a simple summer dress. Thin material, no boning, or anything special. It cost me $30, to get it take it in. Steep pricing than what I have experienced at other places. When I went at 5pm to pick up that wednesday, first lady couldn't find it took her multiple tries to seach and about 10 mins to do so. Then she asked a 2nd lady to help her. 2nd lady found it i. The pile right I front of me, which the first lady looked throguh 4 to 5 times prior. When she found it she asked when do you need it by? WHY would she ask me that you ask? Because the lady explained she might have "missed it and it wasn't done." I was leaving for a trip the next day and just couldn't believe it. NOT ACCEPTABLE. Ended up just running to the mall to find another blue dress for my trip. read more
