The worker called me cheap, even though she was overcharging me. I went here to get a dress altered. I bought the dress online for $85, cheap materials but I was okay with it as it was a bridesmaids dress I had to wear. The worker wanted to charge me $80 to alter the dress. I felt this was extremely high in general, but also considering the dress was only $85 and made with simple, thin materials. She proceeded to call me cheap and I immediately attempted to walked out. She stopped me and grabbed the dress out of my hands and proceeds to take out the pins from inside it she pinned. Extremely aggressive and un-kind service. I don't think she had any right calling me cheap for not wanting to pay $80 to alter a simple dress that was only $85 to purchase. read more

I was told I could pick up my dry cleaning Friday evening or Saturday at 10am or later but when I showed up Saturday at 10:30am the store was closed. I called the phone number on the door but there was no response. I really need the suit being dry cleaned this morning but can't pick it up because the shop is closed during published opening hours. I waited until 10:40am and no one showed up. This is a complete lack of responsibility and customer service. Looking at reviews and through friends' recommendations, I decided to try Southbay Cleaners. And boy, am I impressed... and satisfied! I had a stain on my jeans that would not go away no matter how hard I tried. I was pleasantly surprised when the stain was gone without any damage to the material! All the lint and dog hair from my jacket were completely gone. The service was great - a cute little ma and pa shop, they are incredibly sweet and friendly to all their customers. I've been very unimpressed with their work, after using them for a few months. * They hemmed jeans, and didn't use a chain stitch. These are jeans! * Very slow turn-around on clothing * Irregularly open. As others have mentioned, don't *ever* try to show up at 8:30 (when they claim to open). No one will be there. I wouldn't trust them with any tough work, and certainly not with any alterations. For cleaning a shirt, they'd be fine ... if they were open. read more

I've used SouthBay for years and they are as good as it gets for my needs. I use them primarily for washing and pressing work shirts and occassionally for dry cleaning and mending and they have always met my needs. So washing and ironing is pretty boring stuff so the husband and wife team really differentiate themselves by their service. They've been quick to learn names and anticipate needs and they own their brand - they are the brand! If only all businesses could act and feel this local. read more

I was "Cleaner" browsing. I have this ten year plus old pea coat that I've been taking extra care of because it's finally starting to show its first signs of wear and tear. It's had a few buttons replaced, strengthened and the ink of the tag that says it's size is now barely legible but it's still so comfy that it still deserves a lot of tender love and care. So much so that it cant be washed at any old hole in the wall dry cleaners just to save a buck. So looking around, asking around and even web surfing around on google and even here on yelp this place comes up in my search results. So I thought "it's in San Jose, it's off Winchester" and with the yelp reviews and even the one verbal recommendation I got from a close friend of mine, "I'll do it"!! So I grabbed my coat, folded it up, told my pea coat not to fall apart and drove about eleven miles to finally get it dry cleaned. And boy oh boy was I not disappointed!!! I dropped it off, said my goodbyes, and had the loneliest drive back home. I know what your thinking but believe me, it was practically my linus baby blanket. So, the turn around time for the coat was decent, the price was fair but I kid you not, the hands of these employees must be blessed because they had totally resuscitated my decrepit old coat! It was intact, it didn't stink and it was made soft again! Needless to say it's still my favorite jacket to wear. So yeah, they did a banging job. Blew my expectations away and the whole timing of it was like I was being given signs all throughout the day that this place would be great. Even when I had first made it to the counter to mention and reiterate the importance of my coat retaining at least it's coarseness when relinquishing my coat with minor doubts, I saw a very thoughtfully written card by a customer about how much they appreciated their quality of expertise and just at that very moment a very attractive women walks in with a few garments saying, "oh yeah, that's my card. I come from san Francisco over here because they're that good." I was reassured that I would be safe and that this lovingly mom and pop store was no act, but they actually care about your things as much as you do. And I know you're thinking they must have cast a spell on me but FUCK, I'm sold! So hell yeah I'll be back. The only trouble I will say that I had that isn't really their fault was on my way finding this place I did miss the turn into the plazas parking lot because they're not a corner store it was in the middle of two intersections and I had to make a u-turn to come back because it was hard for me to see if they were in that plaza to begin with. All in all I say if you're going to dry clean your clothes then you obviously care about them a bit more than stuffing them in your own washing machine so you might as well get it done here. And who knows, you may even fall in love. read more
