When I am working in DC, this joint down the street from the Navy Yard, I always stop by here to eat. I eat either the chicken wrap or the skewers. Delicious chicken, I have tried this place multiple times and I have never been disappointed. It is not the typical chicken place where the chicken is fried, this chicken is very well seasoned and cooked directly in the flames. You can choose the sauce with which it will be seasoned, they have one of lemon and herbs which is not spicy, and you have other sauces that are a little spicy to very spicy. My favorite chicken sauce is medium, it is a bit spicy and delicious. The sides are delicious and varied, I recommend you try their fries, they are exquisite, also the corn is very good and you also have vegetables of the season. This Nando's is always good to pop into. There isn't a ton to say, but for me, that's a good thing. I've had quite a few of the menu items and almost always find the chicken to be juicy and moist. I'm a big fan of the red skin mashed potatoes, which are hard to find around DC. Sometimes, the service can seem to drag or you'll think they've forgotten about you, but for the most part, it has always been pretty solid. But do budget some time to get sauces because the sauce bottles are perpetually clogged--on multiple locations, every last sauce bottle has either been totally clogged and unusable or 90% clogged. I've watched water freeze faster than that lemon herb sauce came out of the bottle. But I digress...for some reason, I'm a sucker for the electronic drink machine that seems to have a bajillion choices...even if I usually just get water because I don't drink pop (yes, I call it pop, not soda). Stopped by on a not too busy Friday night and enjoyed the service and atmosphere, but the food was not the level I expected (and how my previous Nando's experiences have been). Came here for lunch on Friday. I love LOVE the wash basin / sink next to the condiments and drink dispenser. Took me a few seconds to figure out how to turn on the water -- just push the spigot to the side. I really did find that fascinating. Things like this should just be standard at all restaurants. Unfortunately that's about where all the excitement ends for me. I ended up getting the 1/4 chicken (leg+thigh) with one side for $6.95. I decided on the "chips" otherwise known as fries to 99% of Americans. Why you would call your fries something considerably less exciting doesn't make any sense to me unless you're calling it "Fish and Chips". The chicken itself is just $4.95, so it $2 extra for the side. Do not get the fries as your side. It's a waste of money and ABSOLUTELY UNDER NO CONDITION should you get the peri-peri seasoning for an extra 15 cents. It's *&#$@! load of salt and you'll spend your time brushing off the fries because unless you're a salt water fish you won't appreciate the mega-dose of sodium in your diet. Funny how an extra 15 cents will completely set you back $2. When it comes to portion size, they definitely have the "less-is-more" concept nailed down...just not when it comes to seasoned fries. Let's forget the fries though and focus on the chicken. $4.95 for the legs and thigh isn't bad, but it did look rather lean. The 1/4 chicken (breast + wing) is 50 cent more and hopefully larger, but in general I prefer dark tender meat over white meat. I didn't expect the Lemon Herb chicken to be so strong on the lemon -- I'm not even sure I could taste the herb. The whole table/seating and service thing is a bit confusing. First, you place your order, then find a seat, but you don't get a number like you'd expect at other places. It's also a combination of wait-service and self-service, so it's a little unclear whether you tip or not. They bring your food, and clear off the tables, but you grab your drink, condiments, and utensils. So far, I'm really on the fence as to whether I want to come here again. The very juicy chicken has a good spice level to it by default, but you can always add more or less to it with the variety of sauces they have to offer. Get the mashed peas! Those were by far the best I've had anywhere. The chicken burger was great in flavor. Very tropical with the pineapple and pickled onions. my review is from our experience with the food and thoughts for others doing pick up. Staff was very nice. We ordered two wraps, and there was minimal chicken in my wrap. I brought it to their attention and they apologized, saying they were running out of cooked chicken and had to make more. they quickly did and made me a wrap with fresh cooked chicken reflective of a $10+ wrap. Manager came over and apologized and made sure the wrap was to our satisfaction. We appreciated that. My other point is that think of all those who pick up made meals and received wraps with next to no chicken in them. they've left the location are stuck with what they picked up. I stopped at this Nando's location after leaving Audi field. The other restaurants were very crowded so we opted for a quick meal at Nando's. When we initially arrived there were only a few people ahead of us in the line with most seats unavailable inside. We waited about 35 minutes before ordering and an additional 15-20 for the food which was delivered to our table. My quarter chicken breast was very large but a bit dry if not doused in the sauce. I removed the skin as it was not very crispy. The chicken breast sizes varied dramatically between the orders which is a bit odd. The platters are probably the best deal with a choice of light and dark meat with one or two sides....plenty of food. My favorites are the roasted veggies and the fries. Fries were a bit disappointing as they were soggy and not evenly seasoned. Not as crispy as in previous visits. The sauces were the only consistent thing about across all the visits. I would probably order ahead rather than wait in the long lines. Be sure to try the medium and lemon herb sauce for dipping or smothering! read more

I love nando's but I would hate to have rate this place a 3 stars! One of my favorites was their sangria. I normally order the white sangria that comes with mango and peach. But this time the sangria was a disappointment because it tasted watery and mostly with sprit in it. They don't make it consistent throughout their stores. Depending on which location you go to, they taste slightly different every time. We were a party of 5 and we ordered 2 full platters and hummus. We had a huge order and the order was place properly, which is always nice. The hummus came pretty quick and it was delicious. While there was still some food left on the hummus, the server came and took the food away without asking if we were still working on it. The staff were not super attentive, even thought the concept is mostly self serve. During the whole visit, there was no staff came to check on how we were doing. Absolutely love Nando's and so sad at the same time because I'm physically 3000 miles away :C FOOD: - Chicken Thighs w/ 1 side ($11.65): Comes in 3 pieces of chicen thighs with seasoning of your choice and it is to die for! Had to go with the hottest on the scale (not spicy at all) but they have sauces laid out on the side to take to your table like Chipotle. Chicken itself is super juicy & crispy on the outside! Love all of their sauces but my personal fav has to be the Wild Herb Peri Peri sauce! Decided to get the side of Macho Peas - mashed peas with chili & mint (that you can't taste lol)... it's OK - Naughty Natas ($2.25): Portuguese egg tart... good but sadly looks better than it tastes. And $2.25 for this tiny pastry is not cheap! It would've tasted much better if it was served warm. SERVICE/PARKING: - Excellent! This is a order-up-front and get-served type of restaurant and i love it! If I could give a zero I would. The service here is the worst. Everyone who worked on the front line on 3/5 and 3/6/2020 around noon needs to be retrained in customer service or fired. On 3/5/20 I stopped in for lunch around 12:30. I was pretty surprised to see it was pretty empty. I placed my order. First mistake the two cashiers were eating on the front line, while at the register. I have worked in Fast Food and know this is a big no no. Next I tried to order 3 thighs and they were out of thighs. I then ordered 2 quarter chickens. I sat down to wait for my meal and prepared my to go sauces to take out. After waiting for 10 minutes I went to check on my order and was told I was waiting for the chicken quarter I took a seat. My co-worker who had went down to Sweet Greens had returned. He was shocked to see I was still waiting. After waiting a few more minutes I returned to the front to check on my order. When the lady behind the counter (the line cook) checked on the chicken she was told it would be 20 minutes. By this time I was pissed I already waited 20 minutes and my lunch hour is only 30 minutes. I asked for a refund. The manager gave me a refund and a gift card. I decided to give the restaurant another try and returned the next day. This time it was busy however I walked right up to the register. I placed my order and provided my gift card. Neither cashier could process the card and had to get the manager. Once processed the cashier was not able to print my receipt. No big deal as long as the order is in. After preparing my sauces I sat down to wait on my order. Once again it took a while after 10 minutes I went ip again to check on my order. The line prep person asked my name I gave her name to my surprise she couldn't find my order. When she asked for my receipt I advised I never received one. She checked with the cashier who confirmed my order. ONCE again the manager had to come. She ended up having to prepare my food. Which is really sad that the manager had to come and do it. After two days and nearly an hour wait I finally got my food. The food was great but the service was horrible. If you have a short lunch break this may not be the place for you. read more

We ordered our Christmas dinner for four and had a pick-up time for 2:45 Christmas Eve. We arrived and the restaurant was closed - lights off, doors locked and no one answering the phones. We called another location and were told it was a supply chain issue. Really? We did not get a phone call or email -to give us a heads up to make alternate plans for our PREPAID Christmas meal. So now it's 3:00 Christmas Eve and we have nothing to eat for Christmas Day - we walked over Harris Teeter's and on the fly planned a menu and shopped. That evening and Christmas morning I was in the kitchen cooking and cleaning - that was not how Christmas Day was planned. I wasn't the one who did the ordering at Nando's nor was I the one who PREPAID, but it did negatively impact my Christmas. Really poor management. I know things happen, but no call, text or email? We were with a party of about 8 and before coming to this part of town, we called a bunch of places with outdoor seating to see if they would have space for all of us. The wait times were around an hour and up. We decided to drive to the location and then wander around before the fireworks. This place had tons of seating! I think it's because this place is "different". This ain't Applebees...if Fat Joe and Charlize Theron had a baby, they would name their child whatever, and then Charlize would divorce him, find Cristiano Ronaldo and have a baby with him named Nando. Brought the food with wrong sauce and wrong side. Severer just kind of stared at us when told her the problem then wandered off without saying if she was getting it fixed. Never did fix everything. Told a second person the order was messed up and got the reply "oh, I'm sorry to hear that" and she walked away with nothing more. All the hot sauce options!!!!! I really appreciate having this place close to me. I'm a huge fan of grilled and heavy spiced meat so I decided to give this place a try. When my boyfriend and I got there, it was a little confusing. The girl behind the counter seemed frustrated and told us that there should someone by the door to sit us. After that, instead of sitting down, we were told to order by the counter then we can sit down and someone will bring the food to us. Besides that little confusion, our service was good! I first got the spiked lemonade, it's strong but very delicious and easy to drink. Then we went to the sauce station to try out all the sauces and bring which ever one I want back to the table. My boyfriend got the half chicken n fries while I got a salad with chicken. We were both very satisfied and full. I even had leftovers for lunch! Overall I would recommend this place. The Story: Came here to celebrate my brother's 26th birth anniversary in November. He swore this place was the best and of course he was the one who got to choose. The Vibe: Staff weren't very attentive, although a bit busier than I expected, that shouldn't stop great customer service. Staff were not knowledgeable of items on their menu, which was a bummer- it was my first time dining. Luckily, my brother stepped in and ordered for me. The Food: Personally not the best. It was a mix between bland with (literally) a spec of spice- like I could grab a spice pebble with my fingers. Chicken was cooked perfectly, just wish the flavors were there. This is definitely somewhere you want to go after you've walked 7 miles around DC! My veggie burger was good. Definitely not dry at all like other veggie burgers I've had. The fries were a little on the dry side but the seasoning was great. They gave you SO MUCH food. I was glad that my friend was willing to finish some of my fries. This was the worst eating experience I've had, maybe ever. And I'm positive that my feeling was shared by EVERYONE in the restuarant when I was there. Bottom line - we were all there about 6 PM on a Friday. It was busy but this is a fast casual place so how long could it possibly take to get our food? OVER AN HOUR FOR EVERYONE. I saw several people ask for their money back. The place where the food was coming out was COVERED with plates of food and take out boxes and yet none of that food seemed to be going to anyone. There were little kids crying because they were hungry. One guy, who had received a bag of take out food, and was headed on the way out told my friend "I had to bribe them to get my food." At that point, I don't think he was joking. There were at least 12 staff members I saw there and yet no food was getting out. Truly terrible. I told some girls who were walking in how bad it was. I went in for lunch and ordered a simple chickpea salad. I ordered at 12:01 and even after waiting for 45 plus minutes my salad did not arrive so I inquired. A nice young lady took my receipt to the kitchen and inquired but even after that my salad did not show up for another 15+ minutes. Later I requested my money back and the staff was rude and mentioned they are busy. Well my small advise for manager here is to put a big sign on door stating we are busy and food might show up or you might leave hungry after an hour. I tend to visit Nando's in waves. There are times when I will visit a few times a month and then many months without a visit at all. It was during the last few weeks that I have started visiting again, and because of the location to where I live, this has been the location I have visited the most. The food has been more or less consistant and flavor is good. As the menu is the same as every other Nandos in the area, nothing really to report here. The employees are friendly (more friendly than most of DC's fast/casual fast locations) and the location is large and bright, unlike the dark and smaller Chinatown and and Farragut North locations. My orders have had a couple mistakes, but these were quickly acknowledged and rectified. For example, I ordered a portobello mushroom and the restaurant was out. I just asked for a refund on the mushroom, and was given that, but also given a voucher for a whole new meal. (However, the refund never did appear-- I didn't contest it since I got a whole new meal from a $2 missing mushroom.) The other thing I have noticed one time is the shift supervisor/manager was chiding the cooks to hurry up with the meals and why wasn't *something?* done sooner and the wait time was unacceptable. I looked around the restaurant and no one seemed to be put out or upset; I was the only customer without food and I'd only been waiting a couple minutes. Maybe there was a big online order or maybe someone was having a bad day-- I'm not sure, but this is not something I generally see. Street parking is really tight most of the time; much easier to take the train. Credit/debit cards are accepted. I certainly plan to return to this location. read more

Normally, I'm a fan of their Haloumi Chix salad. I'm obsessed w it! I decided to branch out to their chicken caesar wrap. All I can say is, it went in the garbage after two bites and they need to work on quality control. The wrap was so drenched in caesar dressing it rendered it inedible. I was so hungry, I tried to "wipe off" as much dressing as possible (disgusting, I know) but everything had become so saturated it wasn't salvageable. Wrap was soggy due to the dressing. Lettuce virtually breaking down to nothing and the sun dried tomatoes weren't even in the wrap. I hope this was a one-off but please do better. I have always liked the chicken and garlic bread, but this Navy Yard location in the past has had some management issues. But I am happy to report that they seem to have turned the corner and my recent experiences have all been positive. The food is good and the service matches now. I wanted to give credit to Nia, who was super-attentive as we waited a little while for our chicken tonight. The staff was up-front about the wait, it was a beautiful night, and we opted to wait outside and enjoy a pitcher of red sangria (which is good) while they caught up on chicken orders. The location at the Washington Navy Yard is a DISASTER. The past 6 months i visited this location 6 times, 4 times something was wrong with my order. I've been served half cooked chicken and cold fries. The managers don't to care enough to make changes. Last night, they forgot to put my wifes sandwich in the bag. I spoke the manager a short time ago, he stated he couldn't ensure every order was correct if he wasn't present. I'm done with this location forever. read more

The place was practically empty but the hostess was friendly. She tried to sit us right next to other diners but I kindly requested a different table since you know any other was available... I split a chicken platter with my husband and the food came out incredibly fast. The chicken and sides were very good, up to Nando's usual standards. I like Nando's as an alternative option to most fast casual places. I would come back again but my one major complaint... the bathrooms...
