We finished up watching a game at Capital One Arena and were looking for a place for dinner. All the local restaurants were packed with crowds. We wanted to go to Raising Cane's but it had lines out the door. We decided to go to Chick-fil-a instead. I loved the cherry blossom designs inside and all the spring decorations. It made it feel very warm and relaxing. I ordered a chicken sandwich meal with waffle fries. The waffle fries are always great. You can't go wrong there. I enjoyed eating the chicken sandwich with the special sauce. I don't usually go out for fast food so this was a treat for me. I get that this is inside the GWU, but I wish we could pre-order or earn our Chick-fil-A rewards through the Chick-fil-A app. Even though there are staff lingering about, they prefer you order using the self-order terminals and even with that, maybe there is only one cook, because the food takes soooooo long! Chick-fil-A is sort of like the Mormon church. The people you encounter there seem impossibly nice, though you sense there is something darker going on beneath the surface. Nevertheless, Chick-fil-A has built a cult like following, even among liberals who once denounced the company for being homophobic. I know many people who attempted to boycott the chain only to eventually succumb to their cravings. I don't eat chicken, so it's hard for me to meaningfully judge this establishment, but I will say that the milkshakes and fries are quite good. The Mac and cheese is decent but could be better. I ordered the Chik-n-Strios from here at 10:30 in the morning, and I was very lucky to find a place to sit down. There are less than ten dining room tables in the entire store, and a lot of the space is occupied by delivery people. There are quite a few of these guys gathered in the front of the store as well. The combo that I got included the waffle fries and a regular fountain drink. The chicken itself was exceptionally good today, and it's good everyday really which is the reason why I keep coming here. This is my go-to Chick-fil-A in DC. It's a convenient location by Capital One Arena and the Portrait Gallery, and it's metro accessible from Gallery Place/Chinatown. It also accepts the app to rack up your reward points (not all DC CFAs participate). I always order via the app so that they can start my order while I'm en route. It's never a long wait and they have a giant tv screen displaying in progress orders and ready orders to easily check status. I often customize my orders and they have always been accurate (extra pickles, yes please!). Their sauce game is also strong - at other fast food joints, the condiments are often missing from my to-go bag. At this Chick-fil-A, they pay attention to the details and I can pick-up my order with confidence. Thoughts: If you are coming here to this location use the app. The amount of traffic that comes through doesn't allow for quick service during peak hours. I feel it's too soon for a review but I'm gonna do it anyway and give it another shot and update. I work nearby this location and decided to grab a quick lunch. My honest opinion is that chick fil a is not suited for small places. It's just not one of those fast food places that can be treated like a shack. EVERYONE prefers chick fil a for fast food. I ordered ahead on my app at about 12:50, left my building at 1pm and "confirmed" that I was at the restaurant in the app although I still had a 10 min walk. My food was ready when I got there but BOY WAS IT PACKED AND BUSY? Literally body to body type of packed. There were a lot of people waiting for mobile orders and delivery orders but it took the staff a little bit to acknowledge the people in front of me. I typically admire Chick-fil-A's exceptional customer-oriented approach, but it seems like the staff at this particular location fell very hard in terms of training. Basic courtesy and common sense are qualities that most of us naturally possess, even when we're not in a customer service role, but unfortunately, that isn't the case at this location. A very busy location and not sure the DC staff can pull off the customer service that C-Fila is known for. I saw 12 orders all sitting on the prep table behind the counter and employees standing doing nothing as all the customers waited. Then after several mins someone decided to pick the bags up and dish them out to customers who were all standing around waiting. Service was slow and backed up and it was due to lack of management and lack of work ethic on the staff. Many employees were unfamiliar with how to ring up items or even extend a friendly welcome or "my pleasure." Corporate needs to do an overhaul as this location gives the company a poor name. Seating area is small with min tables/chairs. They have high top tables with only three stools at just one area in front of window. All the others have no stools. So I guess you can stand and eat on a board mounted on two poles if you like.
