While I'm glad that Nando's has expanded it's menu with more vegetarian options, it still has some ways to go. The Sweet Potato Halloumi Wrap had large chunks of sweet potato and didn't mix that well with the halloumi cheese, arugula doused with lemon honey yogurt and sweet chilli jam. I might opt for a bowl instead. The fries were soggy (we got delivery). The Veggie Burger is bland and lacking flavor, it doesn't taste homemade. The Naughty Nata custard was the best part of the meal! It was a bite-size dessert with a hint of cinnamon. The fudgey Dream Triple Chocolate Brownie was decadent and delicious as well! Nando's is a chicken lover's paradise, and wish there were more vegetarian options available.

Ordered online for lunch pick-up. Spent $20 on the three chicken thighs and mashed potatoes. The carton of mashed potatoes was filled 1/3 of the way. Instead of 3 thighs I received 1 thigh and two small medallions of chicken. I've sat in at this location regularly and received a full serving of this exact meal. I guess the scam is providing less food for takeout at the same price. If I hadn't been back at work when I opened my order I would have turned around and got my money back. Instead I will just leave this review to warn others.

Petition to have Nando's in California! This sounds silly, but I went to Nando's 2 days in a row for a short trip in DC. Everything was delicious! The chicken is fresh, well seasoned, and I'm not a big chicken girl. This chicken was so well cooked, not dry at all. I love the different variations in spices and the spice bar!! It's always a new adventure trying different sauces. The fries were delicious and well spiced, the chilies shine through. This also has the BEST Mac and cheese out of any other fast food chain I've had. Service was quick, very friendly and attentive. I'm going to Nando's again next time I spot one.

7/6/2026 - 2 stars for the food and -3 stars for the waitress or hostess who was not good and walking around not enjoying her job. I arrived with a party of 3 around and sat down immediately. Given menus and waters. Easy. We tell her when we catch her going by 10 minutes later we have a free app for bread. She told us to go to the cashier to redeem. We do this. We sit back down and ready to order. He's dour in 5 minutes. Another 10 minutes goes by and we wave her down. She takes the menu and we are like we need to order. She then tells us I told you to go the register to order. All of us are like no, you said for the free bread. She then said she told us to scan or go to the resister when we arrived. Again we all said no you didn't. We go to the register and order. 10 minutes later the food is out. We all loved the food. We left no tip. First time I never gave a tip to anyone in any of my world travels. Also, she spoke with such a soft voice she was hard to hear when we confronted her about not telling us. We told the cashier what happened when we ordered and wasted 20 minutes of our time when no one told us what to do. She didn't care as well. Go here for the food, expect bad customer service. See photos of the food and the bill. $55 total and NO TIP! My second time here. First time was a to go order and no issues.

I came to Nando's after the Georgetown basketball game with some friends. It was busy, and we were told there were groups ahead of us. They said 10-12 minutes, but we had to wait outside. Not ideal on a winter day, but we obliged until a group ahead of us got up from the waiting area a few minutes later. It's nice that you can order your food at the table via QR code or at the front counter. When they deliver your food, utensils are not included. Everything is located in a section in the back of the restaurant. The chicken was decent, especially with the mild sauce, but nothing I'd go back for. The fries were good with the Peri sauce.

Saturday, August 2, 2025. 7pm After a very long day, walked 20 minutes here, excited to try South African-influenced food. It's semi casual; you order at the counter, but there's servers. Everything seemed ok, staff was friendly & I said that someone in NYC recommended the place to me. The vibe got weird after I got my food. I ordered the mango lime thigh, crispy brussels sprouts, mashed potatoes, pine lemonade. I noticed the dish of mashed potatoes looked like it had been stirred into a spiral. I tried a 1/4tsp & it tasted buttery & okay. I really wish I trusted my instincts. The staff were all standing along the back counter & I felt all eyes on me. There were a few other solo diners & 3-4 groups. It was obvious that the staff was watching carefully what I ate. I locked eyes with a few & the cook on the left. At one point I mouthed to him "How are you?" because he seemed locked in. Every time someone walked by carrying dirty dishes, or from across the room. Felt like they were hiding smiles. Different bites of the food started tasting like rubbing alcohol, something bitter. I had a weird upchuck feeling. I immediately took some (traveler emergency) Pepto & drank a lot of water. I'm not usually sensitive to food, so it was incredibly strange. I cut up the rest of the chicken & taste different bits & the brussels. The first 1/3 of the meal was very normal, so I was confused. I kept going back to the mashed potatoes to mask that taste. I eat a lot of different cuisines - Peruvian chicken, jerk chicken, chili oil noodles, mala stir fries; this food here was def tasting weird. I sat near the back, just a few tables away from the manager on a laptop & staff chatting with her. The whole time they were kind of gathered over there. At one point she gets up and goes to me "Are you okay?"..."How's your food?" (I stayed polite & said fine), checks on other tables. You know the vibe when you just feel like you're being watched? 3 staff, 1 manager & 3 cooks I slowly finished the small plate & noticed an occasional stomach rumble. I know right away that something's not right. It was clear they put some kind of diuretic in the food. Maybe rubbing alcohol? Maybe the food got messed up but they still served it anyway? Let's just say I did not have diarrhea, but my systems were moving & loose. Which isn't my normal evening bathroom schedule, lol. Headed to the restroom and one of the waiters seem to follow me, went into the kitchen door next to the bathroom. I waited at the door & looked back out because it was so odd, he pokes his head back out in my direction, we lock eyes & I looked at him with a "What?" expression. He goes back into the kitchen. When I exit the bathroom, the waiter comes out of the kitchen at the same time. He says good night & was about to start clearing my drinks. I needed to say something - turned around & went back & asked the waiter if they "use liquid smoke in the food" because it got bitter. "Our chicken is made differently maybe it's from the grill." Said that I felt uncomfortable, it felt like everyone was watching and waiting for me to eat. "This place is pretty open, yeah it feels that way." What do YOU think I should I do if I feel nauseous? He said he would get the manager & I can get a refund. The look of fear & guilt on his face! The manager came over, quickly listened, didn't react, said I could get a refund. (Almost a little too quick) While I was waiting at the cash wrap for the refund, I made sure I was in eye sight of the waiter; who sat down near the Manager's laptop; with his head between his knees, then looked up & worried, watching me. So disappointed. I think tampering happens in the food industry more than we know - diuretics & tourists. I filled out Nando's company contact form & sent the incident & my receipts to the DC Department of Health. Would really like some CCTV footage of body language & facial expressions of their staff that evening also.

I've read a lot of reviews prior to visiting D.C. and knew this was gonna be one of my food spots to try and it did prove to be good. On a Friday night we were able to get a table right away, we had great service and got our food pretty quick. I had the chicken breast sandwich with fries and I was also able to try some rice and the sweet potato they had as well. Their chicken is really juicy and flavorful, on a nicely toasted bread with lettuce and tomato. The fries come seasoned with a bit of a Cajun like taste and crunchy and crisp. They have a little great section with a bunch of sauce bottles for you to try and thought that was great for anyone to just be able to add whatever flavor they feel is missing to their food, but to be honest the food is already seasoned and cooked well.

Everything was super yummy including the lavender spiked lemonade. I loved the wings I would order these every time. I also ordered a side of brussle sprouts which I didn't love the ranch that was drizzled on top however the sprouts were really crispy and tasty. The Caesar salad wrap was pretty tasty I wished had a little more flavor.

Walked in And was greeted by the entire team. Food was amazing well seasoned and cooked perfectly . Fav is always gonna be their mashed potatoes. The pineapple lemonade 10s across the board. The garlic bread clt was good i ordered because I was moving too fast and thought it was the one that had the pineapple on it but it's different but it was still tasty. Service was great they brought food to the table and silverware. They noticed my friend had leftovers and brought her a Togo box and bag. And spoke when we left thoroughly enjoyed my experience

We tried this place out, while visiting Washington DC in April 2025. Although we were just 'hungry', the menu was quite appealing and simple. The server (Aki) seated us right away and explained the menu and ordering procedures. The restaurant gives off a modern but simple upbeat vibe. This is family friendly but they do offer a limited menu of adult beverages. Once we placed our order, the drinks came out fast. The food followed about 10 minutes later. We tried several of the sauces but found the hot and extra hot to be our favorite. The chicken was moist and flavorful (even without the sauce). It is the sauce that makes the difference though. My favorite side was their corn and rice. While there, we ate here three times! It was that good. I highly recommend this place during your visit to DC or any of their other locations.

Hip Portuguese chicken spot right across the street from the National Portrait Gallery. $19 gets you half a chicken and 2 sides. Chicken is marinated & grilled to be flavorful & moist and you can add flavor with assorted dips on the counter. Interesting Portuguese sides too. Lots of alcoholic & non-alcoholic drink choices. Order at counter or via scanned QR code. Self-serve non-alcoholic drink station, so this place is hybrid of table, counter & self serve. Place is hopping sorta loud with cute circular booths, tables and even some outdoor seating. If you're wanting grilled chicken at decent prices, try Nando's.

We had 1/2 chicken with mango lime spice and a 16 oz strawberry lemonade to share. We also had fries and an addon of sweet potato with feta. The chicken was so moist with a good hint of mango lime spice rub. They also have many sauces to dip the chicken and fries. The fries was not bad but the sweet potato was much better. The feta added a nice touch and was not too strong.

The awning outside needs refurbishment and inside furniture is not updated. It's dark inside, almost like a night club. Perhaps it is sometimes. I did not like the decor, it was a little run down and honestly did not match up to the prices. The service was also disappointing. I felt that staff lacked a bit of professionalism and they rarely checked on us. The plates are huge. That is a plus. My partner ordered the goat and I tried the red snapper. I think one plate is big enough to share. I like the spinach, but everything needed a bit of salt. While the red snapper was coated in a lovely tomato and red pepper gravy, I felt it made the crispyness of the fried fish disappear and it was kind of soggy. Maybe you can ask for the gravy on the side. The food is not bad, but given the physical establishment and the service I wouldn't return.

Our waiter was so charismatic, helpful, and kind. He even turned up the music in our corner of the restaurant upon request! The food was generally good, just a bit on the drier end. Even the stew wasn't really soupy. So if you were trying to mix some rice with some stew, you basically got cake on your plate. Regardless, everything was seasoned to absolute perfection. Also, don't know if this matters but it may matter to some- though this is an East African Restaurant, the menu is slightly more Kenyan than Ugandan. Something to keep in your expectations when visiting!

Unfortunately, this location didn't hold up. The ordering process was a mess from the start. They were out of boneless chicken, so we pivoted to a half chicken... only to be told they were out of that too. Then it turned out they did have it. We ordered the hummus appetizer and got the side portion instead, which meant another trip to the counter to sort it out. We ordered medium peri peri sauce and got something noticeably spicier. Too tired and hungry to send it back, we just ate it... and the meal just didn't hit the way Nando's usually does. The mushy peas we'd been looking forward to aren't even on the menu anymore, which was its own small disappointment. On the bright side, I ordered a 5 oz glass of wine and got what looked like a double pour. Not complaining... but it does sum up the vibe. The staff seemed indifferent, whether it was end-of-night fatigue or just an off-night, hard to say. We'll probably give Nando's another shot elsewhere, but this DC visit was disappointing enough that I can't really recommend this location.

An 8:45pm reservation turned 9pm and the restaurant was gracious enough to accommodate. The door was a short distance from the inviting bar so I found my date rather quickly. Social and engaging by nature he had already made himself at home with the host and bartenders. The Elmina staff are exactly the kind that make even the most outgoing person feel right at home. Only a quick negotiation of his return needed, especially since I was tardy, and we were whisked upstairs to our table. Upstairs we found a dining room with dark walls and dark blue velvet that set a completely different mood from the bar and open kitchen below. A larger party was seated nearby but far enough away for our own conversation. Later a two person party was seated in between. Word of advice, you will want to remember to keep your Netflix password to yourself. We were not trying to listen but when the tables are that intimate the conversation finds you. Z was our waiter and he set the tone immediately. Attentive, knowledgeable, and full of recommendations that came in right on time even for two foodies who already knew what they wanted. Drinks first. My Gold Coast Margarita and his Tree of Life arrived and both were excellent. Both drinks landing exactly where they needed to. The Tree of Life arriving in a clear ribbed glass with a gold dusted rim, deep red and stunning, was almost too beautiful to drink....Almost is the operative word! Then the starters:Fried okra and Beef Suya. The okra arrived first, batter fried to a golden crisp with a tender bite. The burnt leek and onion ranch dip took it somewhere magical. The Suya beef skewers were smoky, spiced, and finished with mojo onions that balanced every bite without competing with it. One thing every foodie needs to know. If you have a shellfish allergy Elmina will accommodate. Even the dishes that mention shellfish can be adjusted and you will not miss a thing. At a Michelin recognized restaurant that is music to a shellfish allergy sufferer's ears. For the main we ordered the Elmina Spicy Chicken and Jollof rice. A short wine debate while we waited landed us on the Rabble Red Blend. Then the plates arrived and everything made sense. The chicken and pepper sauce had spice that had layers and the Jollof rice served alongside made it unforgettable. My date did not finish it but made sure I knew how great it was. A few notes worth sharing. The bathroom is on the bottom floor so if you are seated upstairs make the trip before the drinks start flowing. The red wine will elevate the spiciness of the chicken so if you are sensitive to heat proceed with caution. We skipped dessert intentionally so Z brought our plates back in a to go bag filled with all the goodness before we left. Tap to pay from the bar tab to the final bill kept the night flowing. I will note our waiter brought it directly to my sharply dressed date but since I was treating I immediately took it back. Loved that energy. Elmina is Black owned excellence at its finest, an intimate setting filled with beautifully dressed patrons and food that will have you recommending this place for sure. Even the small things are handled, with ample street parking and a welcoming entrance, and a staff that turns a typical reservation into something you will talk about after. Whether it is a date night or a group, the tables here are ready for both. A table worth gathering at for any occasion that deserves something exceptional. We closed the night at Kuro Listening Bar, another black owned gem, a short distance away. The pairing of the two made for a night worth remembering.

The space itself was great, nice interior, well-decorated, and service was solid throughout. They also had two distinct vibes going: one side had a bit of a DJ/lounge energy, while the other was more elegant and laid-back, better for actual dinner conversation. We sat on the calmer side. Drinks were good. We had a sangria and a tequila-based cocktail, both solid. For appetizers, we got the shrimp and the beef samosas. Unfortunately, the beef samosas just didn't hold up compared to Swahili Village's. I've had Swahili Village's beef samosas multiple times and they always come out hot, crispy, and consistent. These didn't quite match up, and that was strike one for me. The shrimp appetizer was nice, good sauce, though it could've used a bit more depth of flavor. I also ordered the pepper soup, which was excellent and genuinely spicy (more than I could really handle, but I still finished it). For entrées, my boyfriend got the Suya with jollof rice, and I got the red snapper with jollof rice as well. He really enjoyed his. The beef was cooked well and flavorful, and the jollof rice was good. My fish was also cooked nicely, though the sauce needed a bit more flavor. The bigger issue: they were out of plantains. That was strike two, and it stung more because it was my boyfriend's birthday dinner and plantains are his favorite. It's rare for an African or Caribbean restaurant to run out of them entirely. Overall, a decent experience, but with the high expectations going in, a couple of misses kept it from fully living up to the hype for us. I'd go back for the pepper soup and give it another shot, but I'm hoping for hotter, fresher samosas and actual plantains next time.

We dined on the Medina side. The room was wonderfully decorated, styled like a royal palace in a desert oasis. Only complaint -- the room was too cold (coming from someone who loves frigid temperatures). The other indoor seating option, which appears to be their main room, surrounds the central pit. The restaurant host (or manager) was incredibly kind and gave us a tour. I think the other seating option was better. Regardless, the food was top notch! We got their Tawle (tasting menu) with wine pairings. We also opted for their lamb shoulder. It was well worth the upgrade! Juicy, charred, and well seasoned. There were so many leftovers, too. Anyway, misadventure aside, our group of 6 was in the upstairs room. For groups of 5 or more they have you do the tasting menu but we asked to do a la carte and they allowed us. We got a lot of food, all of which I can't remember, that included the shakshukah, one of the salads, 3 of the spreads, the veggies and a few others. The cocktails drew rave reviews as did my wife and i's mocktails and we loved how substantive the list was. The fresh, constantly coming bread was amazing. Everything was delightful and incredibly tasty and well seasoned. One note: the bathroom music is REALLY loud (it's the same music as in the restaurant) so if you've got loop earplugs or ones you can easily pop in that don't block out your company, that'll help. Oh and also, the currently on offer bitter orange sorbet isn't actually bitter. It's just the name.

There are some gorgeous pieces of beaded jewelry, artwork, clothing, and more in this store. This is an authentic African collection store so you can find just about anything that you'd like that will relate to your African roots. Mr. Kwame was really pleasant, friendly, he engaged his customers, and he just innately knew what we liked or what he thought would be pretty on us. Blue is my favorite color and he picked out this wonderful dress and I fell in love with it instantly. It fits well, has pockets, and a belt to match. My daughter came into the store and before she could begin to browse, he took one look at her, pulled the mannequin inside, and removed the dress from it. He gave it to her with a humble, rather gorgeous smile, and said, "This was made just for you." She turned to see that it was the dress from the mannequin and once again the words, "I love it!," were squeaked into the air. She went to the fitting room to try it on and it fit very well. So we bought it! She wore the dress right out of the store. I changed into mine later and pinned my hair up with the beaded hair pin. Mrs. Sandy got the orange and yellow dress with a bracelet. She absolutely loved that too. You cannot go wrong in this store. I really thought that he was not going to have anything to fit me because I have such large bosoms, however he did. It surprised me. I highly recommend this establishment. Tell Mr. Kwame that the "Shawn, Lady in Blue" sent you. LoL! 5 Stars.

The luxurious, handsome blue dining…read moreroom within the recently renamed Potomac Hotel feels like a place to see and be seen, with eye poppingly high food and drink prices to match. While the food itself at Dogon is excellent, I found the egregious pricing coupled with rough service made for a very overhyped dining experience. To begin, our party of four was running a hair past the 15 minute grace period for our reservation, and when we called to inform the restaurant of our slight delay the hostess curtly responded with "we will see what we can do." I understand the possibly of not being accommodated, but the wording and tone could have been a bit more professional. Once we were seated, our waiter explained the menu and offered suggestions. There appeared to be a pressure to upsell specific dishes, as the waiter constantly mentioned that we should order the branzino dish, even when we informed him that someone at our table possessed an allergy to a key ingredient in the dish. The cocktails here are mostly priced above $20, and possessed gob standard flavor profiles which did not merit the price nor impress the palate. In contrast, we genuinely enjoyed the majority of the food sampled. The flavor profiles here are spice forward and the restaurant does not shy away from bold seasoning or heat. The dishes are, mostly, technically well executed. The Ben's chili bowl which brought crispy shingles of lamb atop a spicy chickpea curry, ranked among our favorites of the evening. The hoe crab paired fluffy, buttery corn pancakes with a well spiced crock of tender, lump crab meat, making for a light yet flavorful bite. Our pork belly dish had tender meat paired well with a sweet-sour tamarind glaze. The fish fry tasted comforting with a juicy yet crisp fish fillet alongside house-made spicy sauces. The beef tartare possessed a discernible curry flavor, though the bite was marred with a few pieces of gristle. The oxtails brought the requisite meltingly tender texture, though the sauce served alongside ate salty and rich. We ended with the turmeric cheesecake which, while creamy, lacked turmeric flavor and had either some sort of inedible garnish or, worse, a piece of paper on the plate. Note should be mentioned that some of the portions here are appallingly tiny for the price. For example, the hoe crab dish brings four silver dollar pancakes and 3-4 small spoons of crab for $38. The oxtail patties are priced at $16 for two thumb sized pastries. While I am not opposed to paying top dollar for quality cuisine, the lack of polish on the service end creates a disconnect. In addition to the brusque phone interaction and upsell pressure, we also had incorrect plates constantly dropped off at the table. Worst of all, we were abruptly and unapologetically asked to leave our table while finishing our last round of cocktails. Two stars may seem harsh, but restaurants are a hospitality based business and the lack of service warmth was palpable. The food was generally great here, but sky high prices, minute portions, and rough service prevent a return visit.

It's a small but quaint spot with a mix of booth and table seating, making it a nice place for a relaxed dinner with friends. As a picky eater visiting for the first time, I kept my order simple with wings and rice. The wings were the highlight of the meal--crispy, flavorful, and well-seasoned. The rice, however, was disappointing. It was dry and lacked seasoning, and I found myself wishing it had at least a little butter and salt to enhance the flavor. The mocktails were delicious and complemented the meal well. The atmosphere was warm and inviting. The music was at the perfect volume--easy to enjoy while still being able to carry on a conversation without shouting, which made for a pleasant evening with friends. Our server was attentive, friendly, and made us feel welcome throughout the meal. One small note: the ladies' restroom was clean but very small and narrow. It had a hook-and-latch style door but no place to hang a purse, which would be a nice addition. Parking on H Street is always a hit or miss, so plan accordingly if you're driving. I didn't realize where the restaurant was located beforehand, so I was a little surprised when I arrived. It's in a very urban area, which may or may not matter depending on your comfort level. There was a decent amount of seating inside if you choose to dine in. The restaurant was okay in terms of cleanliness, but personally, I'd opt for takeout. I originally planned to eat inside but changed my mind once I got there. Unfortunately, the customer service wasn't the best. I wasn't greeted when I walked in, and when I received my order, the takeout container wasn't fully closed and was placed halfway into the bag. I'm not sure if it was just an oversight, but it didn't leave the best first impression. Now, the food, that's where they won me over. Everything was well-seasoned, and the suya had just the right amount of spice. They were out of the vegetable I originally wanted, but I'm actually glad I tried the corn because it was absolutely delicious. And that suya butter sauce? It was the star of the meal! Overall, while the location and customer service weren't my favorite, the food was flavorful enough that I'd come back if I were in the area and craving suya.
