I've been to the Nanking Restaurant in Manhattan and the one in New Hyde Park before. Compared to those two, this location was tiny! That's a good thing because the restaurant was empty when I came here for lunch. I really like their décor, as it doesn't look like a cheap Indian restaurant. The food is always great at Nanking. I had the Kai Chi for appetizer (other places calls them lollipop chicken). They were very good and I couldn't stop eating them, and I'm not ashamed to say that I stole one from my wife's plate. I had the Chicken Tikka Masala with Garlic Naan and both were excellent (just the way I expected). The chicken had a lot of flavor and wasn't crazy spicy. I'm never in the area, but at least now I know where to eat if I'm back in Ozone Park. read more

A decent option if you're in the JFK area and are in need of a sit-down dinner. Given the breadth of the menu (spanning Chinese, Thai and Indian) - it's not a surprise that the items are a bit of a hit or miss. The lamb korma and the garlic naan here were the highlight for us - the flavors of the korma were spot on and the garlic naan was doused in garlic, ghee and baked to perfection. The Singapore noodles were also good- the flavors and consistency were pretty much right on. The Chicken Tikka Masala, on the other hand, was not the best ever as some other reviews suggest (esp not at $15!). It was overly sweet and heavy on the tomatoes - I understand each place has its own version of the dish, but this was really out there and not something I could finish. The papaya salad was also oddly (creatively?) prepared. The green papaya wasn't shredded in thin slices - instead, it was chopped like cuts of French fries. As a result, the flavors of the dressing didn't soak into the green papaya and the salad was bland and a difficult to enjoy. The panang curry was also off- it was too heavy on the peanut flavor and lacked the usually more complex curry flavor. The chicken inside the curry was lightly breaded- also strange to my taste buds. I think I need to move! I'm only going to be in NY for a few hours as I missed my flight back to PHX! I decided to make the best of it and... find something good to EAT! And once again yelp comes through in a clutch! I simply searched nearby take out and at the top of the list was this GEM! There were plenty of vegitarian options and the prices were decent as well! Everything was hot and flavorful I ordered Pad Thai Noodles, Vegetable Spring Rolls and tried something I never heard of Dry Vegetable Manchurian! I ordered the pad Thai extra spicy which it was yet still delicious and they also put sauce on the side! The nanKING of Queens. Since there were absolutely no other food options or choices, except the hotel restaurant, we decided to venture to Nanking which was about 15 minutes away via cab. NOTE: Parking is available on the street; take out is also an option. The restaurant is a decent size (long and wide) with tables situated along the wall, leaving the center open as a pathway for the staff and customers. Upon entering, the cashwrap/host stand is immediately to the right. We arrived shortly after 7pm and thankfully it wasn't crowded so we had our pick of where we wanted to sit. Looking thru the menu, it is very diverse with many Chinese, Thai, and Indian delicacies. In fact, the menu was so extensive that it took us a while to figure out exactly what to order. FOOD & DRINK: We finally decided on the samosas as an appetizer, while we shared the chicken tikka masala, the panang curry, and the nanking fried rice. The samosas were spicy, but quite good. The entrees arrived soon after, along with a bowl of white rice (which we assumed comes with one of the chicken dishes since we didn't order this side). Out of all the dishes, I favored the chicken tikka masala the most. It was simply delicious! The panang curry was delectable, though the fried rice was just ok in my humble opinion. Lastly, our two diet cokes were no charge thanks to a check-in offer via the Yelp app. Thank you, Yelp! SERVICE: Customer service was excellent. The staff checked on us in a timely manner throughout the meal, while soda and water refills were readily given. Great find through Yelp after checking into nearby JFK Hampton. Easy to get to from there. Halal restaurant with full alcohol service. Free 'mangorita' with check-in, although we didn't try it. Beer and wine options are limited but you can find something. I had a Kingfisher, wife a pinot grigio. The restaurant space is not unusual for this cuisine - somewhat small, so it might get packed. When we visited there were no other customers, although two groups came in during. As it was, we had choice seating. Very friendly, professional service throughout. Szechuan chicken excellent. Very spicy with a dark, smoky sauce. Best I've had in memory. Wife's veggie dish also excellent with a similar sauce. Not cheap, especially for the area, which seemed not to be a high rent district. Five stars for the quality of the food and the service. Finding Nanking after a long, tiring international flight and then dealing with JFK and US Customs might be inflating my opinion but I'm sure the restaurant owners don't mind. read more

I wanted to like this place a bit more and my desires was not met. We went on our lunch break after convincing my co workers to drive 15 minutes to try out this place. Emphasis on lunch break. First the waitress gave us dinner menus and we had to request for lunch menus (bait to increase sale for a higher bill amount). Nevertheless, both menus were extensive and seemed tasty. I appreciate a place with an extensive menu. My hot and sour soup was amazing. My co worker corn soup was ehh...ok. As an appetizer, we ordered the Chilli shrimp which was good. Both items took 20 minutes to come out. After waiting close to 45 minutes to an hour, our entrees finally came. Oh, except mine, which took an additional 20 minutes after everyone's meal. This gave me the opportunity to sample. Signapore noodles A- Balance of spice and overtone of Curry Chilli Shrimp with rice- B+ Excellent sauce, great amount of spice, rice was mushy Chilli fried Lamb- Saltyyyyy but very good. It could use more spice. The looks of it is deceiving. It looks spicier than it is. 20 minutes later.........my dish of Lamb Vindaloo. One of my favorite Indian dishes. I had an expectation of that bright red sauce and an atomic level of spice blended with tender lamb. What I got was Vindaloo with no spice, tough meat and an extreme lack of flavor. I grabbed their house made pepper to douse my meal. It still was not where I needed it to be. I had to send the plate back to be remade. This was not Vindaloo from the Goa region of India. This was lamb and tomato sauce. 20 minutes later...my dish was remade. Still was not Vindaloo. I ate it and was appreciative of the attempt. One of my favorite spots. I love their curried shrimp however the shrimp used to be large and succulent now they are tiny and hard as stone. It seems the product quality has dropped while the prices went up. I'm hoping it's due to COVID and will go back to normal at some point. The garlic naan was still awesome. Great place to have dinner while waiting to pick someone up at JFK. I started with the papaya salad very refreshing and a start to dinner. For the main course I had the Fried Chili Lamb which was very tasty. It was about medium heat just perfect. The restaurant has about 12 tables and has intimate red lighting. Nanking was always good to me.. Ever since the location in Jackson heights closed down many years back, I don't get a chance to eat it as often as I'd like. This particular location I really enjoyed. The decor was nice, it felt more on the upscale side, without the upscale price. We ordered a variety of appetizers and entrees. The noodles were a bit of a let down. Visually they look very appealing, but there was immediate disappointment after trying a few bites. The winners were the drumsticks of heaven (lollipop chicken), the fried rice, the biriyani, chicken tikka masala, lamb vindaloo and schezwan lamb. Everyone seemed to enjoy the tom yum soup as well. I got the hot and sour soup which was okay, I remember it being better before. Overall the food was good and flavorful. The only thing our group didn't really like was the noodles. The meal, ambience and staff were all great. I never thought Id find this gem in this neighborhood, considering I use to live close by. Let me start by saying that I found this place thanks to Yelp. My friend wanted thai and I was craving Indian. So this was a perfect match. We went in on a Friday midday when it was not busy. Took my mother-in-law here for Valentine's day. The website said to call and make reservations. When we called we were told they don't take reservations? We get there and the place is packed. There's only one girl running the entrance and taking orders. One other guy that just seemed confused about everything he was doing. They tell us they have a table some people are about to leave from. We wait for them to clean it and sit. The guy never brings us a menu or a fourth table setting. We finally get the menu and place our order. The wait for the food was ridiculously long. Everyone around us was also waiting forever. The little girl on the next table starts yelling to her parents "I'm hungryyyyy, where's the food??". The music (song cover versions??) kept annoyingly turning on and off. They bring us our cocktails which were a waste of money because it definitely didn't taste like alchohol was in there. The food comes and there's nothing special about. My brother-in-law tries to order a dessert but they say they don't have bananas to make it. Then at the end they bring you four sad looking strawberries dipped in white chocolate and sprinkles and hand you your bill. No apologies for the wait or terrible atmosphere. Then I noticed they tacked on an 18% gratuity charge on our bill. The bill clearly states that parties of 5 would automatically have the 18% added on but we were a table of 4. Stopped here for a quick bite and a grand rush of nostalgia. Not sure if this is the same Nanking as in India but we decided to believe it and relive our childhood memories. The place was not too busy for a Sunday. The host was gracious and had us pick our spot. We decided to skip on the drinks and go straight for the food. We ordered chicken corn soup, chicken Hakka noodles, Spicy garlic fried rice, and chicken Manchurian gravy. This was pretty much our exact same order growing up. The waiter was kind enough to check with us our spice levels. Overconfident of my desi palate, I asked her to go spicy, especially when she said other people ask for XX spicy - A bad idea! When the food arrived, it was great to see the portions making it totally worth the money. The food was fresh and all the flavors were on point. No complaints at all. This is an interesting place for Rockaway Blvd. Small and quaint you forger you're in South Queens. The food didn't blow me away...it was average for it's style of Indian meets Thai. For you beef and pork lovers...you're out of luck. The menu is mostly lamb, chicken or seafood. Oh one last thing...there's only one bathroom and so a line can form from time to time because who knows what woman do in there. I googled halal thai food near me and I ordered chicken in green cocnut chili sauce with fried dumplings and jasmine rice. This wasn't it! The chicken was cooked in some kind of sauce no coconut sauce and had mint in it! Desi style! Pudina who does that?!?!] Tastes nothing like thai cusines and the rice is basmati rice steamed not jasmine rice. Lastly the dumplings were boiled and not fried as I asked boiled dumplings with a few burn marks from the stive do not constitute as fried dumplings. An early international flight called for an overnight stay near JFK, so I turned to my trusty sidekick Yelp for some dining recommendations. Enter Nanking! A quick uber from the Marriott Courtyard and we arrived at the small restaurant. The menu covers both Thailand and India and is split into sections. We decided to go the Indian route and got the Chicken Tikka Masala, Dal Makhani, Palak Paneer, and plenty of naan. The food came out quickly and was delicious. Everything had the perfect amount of spice and the Tikka Masala had a lovely smoky flavor. After a delicious meal, I was surprised how good I felt. Indian food tends to do a number on my stomach, but I felt great that night and in the morning. If you are in the JFK area, this is a good bet! read more

The cuisine and being that it was within walking distance were ideal. I love Thai food, and there are some Indian dishes I like. My husband loves Indian food, and there are some Thai dishes he likes. Wanted to try some Thai food, so ordered take out. I had the Thai green curry chicken. Having tried the same dish in other Thai rest, I immediately knew this is not authentic. The curry sauce seems to have so much artificial coloring to give it a more greener color, with the end result, having a shrek-colored chicken. The chicken itself, besides looking like Shrek, also tasted of very low quality ingredient. If you are looking for authentic Thai food, this is NOT where you want to go. read more
