I recently acquired an older pickup and wanted to make sure it was road worthy and safe so I brought it to Naper Auto Works with a laundry list of things I wanted done. The staff was extremely courteous and methodically went through my vehicle. Instead of blindly doing everything on the list they let me know what their inspection revealed and which items really didn't need to be done. Burglars!! Beware!!!!!! Excessive fees for towing (1 block)!! Diagnostic charges and repair estimates that were way too high. Recommended junking the car. This auto shop is wonderful! Knowledgeable, helpful, fair! Today I had a bunch of dashboard lights go on. I was able to quickly get in for a diagnostic check as I am heading out of town. They found a very simple solution (my gas cap wasn't in all the way) in like 5 minutes and didn't even charge me. They have been a big help in the past in checking my brakes and later fixing my brakes. Will return here! read more

Amazing customer service today with Naper Auto Works!! Was a block away when I discovered I had a flat from a screw that was lodged in my tire. I pulled in hoping that they could swap the tire for the spare so I could get my son to camp somewhat on time. They didn't swap the tire they plugged the tire immediately on the spot for me! They went above and beyond to get me on my way quickly. Would highly recommend them to anyone needing auto repair work. Will definitely be using them in the future for all of my auto care needs. I was looking for a full service mechanic for a newly purchased used car. My search started with Yelp because I wanted to see what others had to say about local businesses. I chose Naper Auto Works, and was utterly disappointed. Dropped my car off at 7am and reviewed what I wanted done... was told it could all be completed that day and that he'd call me with estimates... I didn't hear anything by 10:30am so I called and was told it was being looked at and he'd get back to me... 11:40am rolled around and no call, so I called and was told they were still looking at it... I called again at 1:30pm and was told he'd call me back with estimates... I got out of a meeting at 3:30 and called them to be told they were sorry and there was a paperwork mix-up and none of the work could be completed. I would not recommend this shop to anyone. read more

At Naper Auto Works they were completely honest with me. They told me what was necessary, and what wasn't worth fixing on an old car. It came down to only a few hundred dollars to get a little more use out of my car. I'm now a loyal customer! Always have a good experience. I've had mixed experiences here, the first few visits were wonderful. But, lately the customer service has been lacking, especially on the phone. Over the Summer, I called to get an oil change and I was told the next appointment was a week away. It wasn't near a holiday or anything, so I went elsewhere. Recently, I called to replace the tires on my van. The gentleman who answered my call seemed annoyed by the fact I didn't know the size of my tires. Seriously? The three other places I called were able to give me a quote based on the year/make/model of the vehicle. Repair was done elsewhere. read more

I had my car towed to Naper Auto Works because the starter on my car went out. I asked them to call me before doing any work because I didn't want to be over charged for a simple job. They called me the next day and said that it was going to cost me 411$ to put on a new starter. I had previously looked up the part and it cost around 120$ to buy. They were trying to charge me 411$ to put on a 120$ part. I spoke with multiple auto shops and all of them said it doesn't take much more than an 1-1.5 hours to change the starter (so I got charged 290$ worth of labor which is like 200$ an hour for labor). In the end they knew I had no choice because I had the car towed there and it would cost me to tow it somewhere else. They off set the high labor cost by saying the parts are more expensive. Also I asked them if I could buy the part for them to install they said they won't do it. These people are thiefs read more

I've used them for several years and would give them a well-deserved 5-star rating but for one fundamental problem: in order to keep the repair price competitive they sometimes use substandard parts that don't last as long as genuine OEM parts. So the repair has to be done again sooner that it should. What value is that? Three examples in my experience: 1) new wheel bearing lasted only 25K miles (junk part), 2) new suspension ball joint lasted only 25K miles (junk part), 3) new muffler rusted through in less than 3 years (junk part). Maybe I did save a few dollars initially by having NAW do the work instead of the dealer, but since I planned on keeping the car for more than one year, their service was a FALSE ECONOMY. If you do decide to go to NAW, be sure to ask them to price the repair using GENUINE OEM parts. You may be surprised to find they are no cheaper than the dealer. read more

I called to make an appointment last week for my hummer H3. The guy on the phone asked what's going on, so I told them the problem and that I had it diagnosed by auto zone with a result code P0201, which is the Engine Computer Module. So he scheduled me June 5(today). I brought it there 7:30AM and left it there. The guy at the front desk said he'll give me a call. Around 2:45PM the guy called and told me they don't have parts(ECM) and that they're still looking for any used parts. I told him I have to pick it up since I can still use it for a short distance while they're looking for the engine computer. So, I went to pick my car around 4:15PM. And they charged me $160+ with problems NOT RESOLVED. I was told they did diagnostic and some check-up(I don't know what) and that cost me that much. By the way the result of their diagnostic test is exactly the same with what Auto Zone found (FOR FREE). I thought I could trust this shop since I checked on their reviews. I was wrong! I'm a VERY, VERY DISSAPPOINTED! read more
