A shoe company sent me a flyer for Naperville Running Company. It was try on a pair of their shoes and get a free pair of socks. I got to choose a brand I liked which is great. The shoe brand turned out to be very comfortable. The store only had a plain color in stock, but they provided me a tablet to search for additional color options. I had come in on a Saturday, and they called me on Wednesday that my shoes have arrived. Staff that I encountered on first and second visit were friendly. I did not feel pressured to make a purchase and they gave me space to look around. Very good shoe selection from a wide variety of brands. There is limited parking out front, but the deck is only a block away. I would return. read more

My wife wanted some Puma shoe and this store was literally the only place on the internet that had it in her size. Accidentally ordered wrong size and noticed seconds after I clicked order. Called the store and they picked up on the second ring. Guy who answered was on top of it. Best customer service I've had in a long time. Thank you! I went here to buy new walking shoes, since my physical therapist had suggested the custom molded orthotic insoles that they make in store. Staff was friendly and knowledgeable and they really knew their stock. I initially got the custom insoles made, but after several days was getting a stabbing pain in one heel (not typical for me) so went back, since they do accept returns and will make it right. The fellow working at this time returned the custom insoles in favor of some other supportive insoles. These were definitely more comfortable, but he had to trim them down, and the way my gait is, I kept walking on the edge of the insole, which ended up giving me pain in the other foot! I went back again, at this point kind of frustrated, and a different guy said, why don't we just try the original insoles that the shoes came with, and if those aren't comfortable enough there's one more brand to try. Sounded good to me; the only reason I tried the orthotics was because my PT suggested it. Turns out this was the best way. The sneakers I bought were Brooks, and while expensive, they are also comfortable and supportive, which is what I need; the first salesman had shown me shoes with a focus on stability, and it is helpful. I will add it was only the third salesman who suggested only wearing new orthotics for an hour or so at a time to get used to them; no one else had told me that, and I have never had them before so I have no experience with wearing them. Overall, for knowledgeable service and hassle-free returns, this is the place in Naperville. read more

Upon my first time in Naperville running I was accompanied with my brother and sister in law, we got the best salesman ever, the guy was an absolute Prince Charming, very smart and intelligent! He sold me the shoes before I ever walked out and came back, I was just too nervous to say anything even when he asked. Came back got another experienced salesman and was out rather swiftly : ) they had a wonderful selection of many brands that they will fit you for and walk you through! They have excellent prices for all the services they provide. Loved this store highly recommend! P.S. I had such a great experience shopping for running shoes here! The staff are friendly and knowledgeable. Steve helped me try on many (!) pairs of shoes, and he was very patient throughout the process. The store also has a machine that can measure the size of your feet, your arches, and how you distribute your weight when you stand. Goal for the visit was to buy a new pair of shoes for my husband. He's been complaining some hip pains after 2 to 3 miles of walking. Here's the great thing about Naperville Running Company - the store is staffed with people who know what they're talking about and so can genuinely help you make the right choice in footwear. About a year ago, I went in for the first time to get the next version of the Nike's I wear and instead they helped me discover the Hoka One One's that are absolutely perfect for me. Had they not taken the time to understand me and my running needs, I'd still be running in sub-optimal shoes. With the Hoka's I've been able to run father with faster post-run recovery time and have clocked increasingly faster 5Ks. More recently I wanted to take a look at the Vaporfly Next%. Knowing they're really hard to find, I emailed with a few questions about the shoe. Marisa answered my questions in detail and offered to set aside a pair. When I went in to try on the shoes, I was helped by Emily so was so incredibly patient as we tried a few times to get the lacing right. I've got a wide foot and the Next% are relatively narrow, but accommodating because the upper is so thin. I must've been in the store for about 40 minutes, absorbing her knowledge and trying and retrying the shoes. (I really, really wanted them to work out for me...) After that time, Emily said "I don't want you to buy these if you're not 100% on them, and it seems like we can't get the fit perfect." Then she explained the various other manufacturers who are coming out with carbon plate, next gen shoes, noting a couple brands that would likely work out better for me. I appreciate the consultative nature of the whole thing -- she steered me right and kept me from making a bad decision, playing the long game, with a customer service focus... that's why I will come back again and again. I'm done with buying my running shoes from some pimply kid at Dick's Sporting Goods who I had to hunt down to help me. Never again. My husband brought me to Naperville Running Co to pick up a new pair of running shoes for my birthday because my current pair made my toes go numb after just a mile! Revelation thanks to NPC....my feet hit the ground flat so I need more arch support! Hooray! The people who work here are true runners. They can tell you about upcoming races and give you experienced advice (they've also got a great iPhone app, check it out!). We came in on a weekday before lunch so the store was pretty empty and I basically had the undivided attention of one of their knowledgeable sales person. In about 20 minutes she had me: 1) walk around barefoot 2) try on about 4 different shoes 3) run on a treadmill to video analyze my running gait Talk about thorough! Their employees really make this place. They ask all the right questions in order to fit your needs. I was asked up front what my budget was and never felt pressured to buy a more expensive shoe. I was even asked if I belonged to a gym, because you get a 10% discount if you do! Walked out of here with my new kicks & my new favorite running socks (Balega, check them out! My husband and I decided to sign up for a race this summer and wanted to treat ourselves to some high quality running shoes. We are both fairly novice runners and weren't sure if we would feel overwhelmed walking into a running store. This place is AWESOME! They ask you what you're training for, what you like or don't like in shoes, if there are certain brands you like, etc. I then took 4-5 steps and our consultant, Dan, immediately noticed that I have a high arch and walk only on the outside of my foot. He picked out 3 pairs of shoes, I ended up getting the first ones he picked. He also recommended an insole given my high arch and let me tell you, I never knew I wasn't running with my whole foot, but after wearing these puppies, running feels so much easier! Props to Dan for making us feel very welcomed and helping us without making us feel judged or unwelcome. So this is the first review for the new location. LOVE IT. Love the indoor mini track and the treadmills are still there only hidden more to the back of the store. Much larger than the old location. I was visiting from out of town for a conference and stumbled across this running store. As an avid runner, I decided to check out the goods. What a cute store! The inside is decorated like a track. They have everything a new/beginner runner to advanced runner would need, from nutrition to sneakers to hand held bottles to runner clothing. One of the nice younger male employees (had a mustache) helped me out figuring out where to run in the area. I need a thirteen mile run and he told me to head down the Riverwalk to McDowell Grove. Had a great experience here. I explained to the employee, Emily, that I was training for my first half marathon and had been battling extreme heel pain for a while and thought I needed a better pair of running shoes. She took the time to understand my concerns, measure my foot/evaluate the shape of my foot and then pulled over 6 pairs of shoes that she thought would be a good match for me. I tried each pair on and walked/ran around the track in the store. She explained the benefits of each shoe as I tried them on and kept her focus on me the entire time. I ended up going with Hoka Clifton's; which I am SUPER happy with; (significantly helped with my heel pain) and I even ended up running my half in them! Also, emily signed me up for the store's rewards program so I ended up saving some $$ which is always awesome. I've been a local NRC customer for years. They treat each customer like they are the best customer they've ever helped. If there was a white glove service for running stores, they would the only providing it. The competitors don't stand a chance. Let me explain why: every time I think I want/need to try a different shoe, they always accommodate my request for the "shiny shoe". Inevitably, I always end up returning the shoes and exchange for my trusty Mizunos, just a newer version. No questions. No strange looks. Just "no problem". During COVID, they have remained connected to the community and supportive of their employees. Today I stopped into NRC on a mission to find a specific running bra I have already fallen in love with. When I first arrived, it seemed a little stiff and unfriendly because the two people working on the floor were 100% focused on finding shoes for the two people already in the store. Even though we walked right by them, the eye contact was not broken on the sale in front of them. After another minute of looking around my opinion changed. From some back room or corner of the store, twice as many employees appeared and greeted me with a kind and gentle smile and offer to assist. Ah, that's the service I was hoping to find in a specialty store such as this. I mean, if I am going to ask about running bras, sizing, and a room to try all this on, I hope to have someone warm to help me out. I didn't take any help other than a fitting room at first. Later I realized the store did not have the size I was looking for and one of the girls working had no problem with ordering them in and calling me when they arrived. She joked around with me and gave me a few tid bits about what she had learned this past week in a presentation from the company I was buying a bra from. What a nice ending to my stop into NRC. When they call me in 7-10 business days, I will look forward to heading back in. read more

Things have greatly improved since my last visit to NRC. I was actually greeted by the girl at the checkout counter, everything was well organized and it took a bit of time for someone to approach me on the floor, but I was helped within five minutes from the time I walked in. Jane is my shoe hero. She noticed me staring blankly at all of the socks and came over to help. She is quick and personable, very fun. I told her about some problems I was having with the shoes I purchased, which is the same problem I have with most shoes. My feet will often start to tingle and feel like they are falling asleep about 10 min into my workout. She listened to all of my concerns and starting asking me some very good questions. This was more of the one-on-one that I was looking for when I originally came in. Although I had been fitted previously, she thought I might be in the wrong size and had me try 1/2 size larger. The difference was night and day. They were the exact same shoes, but fit much better. At first I thought tighter was better because of my ankle problems, but she said as long as I had the right size and a good pair of workout socks that it was actually better to have a bit more movement. She did an even exchange for me, relatively no questions asked other than what I needed. When I tried on the shoes I also tried on a pair of socks that I intended to purchase. I had grabbed three pairs and was using one for the fitting. She took them from me before checkout and somehow they were misplaced along the way. I got home and discovered I had paid for three and only had two. A quick call fixed the problem. They set a pair of the socks aside for me and told me to come in whenever. They even gave me a free pair for the trouble. I am definitely going to keep doing business with them. read more

Both feet are measured, gait is evaluated, at least 3 different pairs are offered for you to try on. Your running gait is evaluated again on the treadmill with the best pair if you wish. This is not Sports Authority--meaning it's not a shoe warehouse--so the prices may seem a little steep. But it's your feet, they gotta last and making sure you're picking the best shoes for your feet should be important and worth the extra dinero. Friendly and professional, yet so down to earth that smiling and helping me entertain my antsy son with dinosaur toys was not beneath them. 5 Stars Easily. I love NRC. read more
