The soup had seaweed, tofu, and chives; I think the seaweed is healthy but not tasty. The broth looked oily. I asked for my main dish as takeout so I could continue to watch ABC in silence. I understood that my fried rice should have eggs, carrot, and something else but plain fried rice was with my chicken hibachi. The side veggies were not much in my mind. I asked about gluten free and their procedures and they were instantly able to tell me what I could eat and that they clean the whole grill and prepare mine separately! The food is delicious and the service is friendly. If you're looking for something high-end, this is not it because that ambience is real casual. The owners are real personable and the sushi is pretty delicious and I am speaking from experience with sushi in Los Angeles and Florida. My boyfriend and I hate supporting big corporate places . Over priced and no where near as good as a small business owners putting love into the food . We have been going to OEC for quite sometime, but haven't been there since before COVID and before becoming vegan in Jan 2020. We knew we were craving hibachi, but we weren't sure they could accommodate us. We ordered vegetable hibachi with no egg in the fried rice and 2 vegetable egg rolls. You guys, the containers were like 2 lbs each! They LOADED the containers with so much hibachi goodness!!! We couldn't even finish it all, and for $7, it was SO worth it! Fast. Cheap. Delicious! Each dish is about $9 and totally worth it! I got the hibachi chicken and it's so good! First each dish comes with a little salad. Pretty normal. But the dressing is very good. It's slightly sweet and very flavorful, though I can't place the flavor. Next the chicken has a sweet sauce similar to teriyaki sauce but sweeter and not quite a strong. It also comes with veggies as fried rice, fresh but nothing special. The decor of the restaurant is very cool. It's slightly modern but has that classic Asian restaurant feel. The seating is pretty limited so don't bring a lot of people. read more

Just stopped in here for dinner with our 3 kids. Thumbs up all around. Kids are ages 9, 12 and 15. We had plain fried rice, vege fried rice, shrimp fried rice, edamame and 3 different sushi rolls (Philadelphia, crab and spicy tuna.) The bill was just under $40 and there was a ton of food. Admittedly our eyes were bigger than our stomachs, but that means sushi and fried lunch for lunch tomorrow! The fried rice was delicious and sushi was really good for the price. Hmmm...maybe they ought to consider taking the word 'Express' out of their restaurant name. Exhibit A) I waited 20 min for 3 basic sushi rolls and a seaweed salad. Exhibit B) I was the only one in the place when I ordered aside from one other couple at 7:30 on a Wednesday. Granted, a small family of 3 came in about 5 minutes after I ordered, but come on, y'all. Other info: -- There is only one register, so even though you may place your order with someone via notepad, they have to wait until the person using the register is finished to enter it. -- The menu board above the counter lacks descriptions of what is in each sushi roll, which leads every person placing an order to ask, "What's in XX roll? What about the XX?" I noticed that descriptions were in the to-go menus by the register and resorted to ordering from that instead. -- Staff appeared quiet and somewhat disengaged. They had to look at a menu to answer questions from customers about menu items. + The space itself is modern-looking and small but clean, with just a hand full of booths for dining in. It appears they cater more to the carry-out or call ahead crowd. + They offer some combination deals, so for $9.95 you can pick 3 basic rolls (or 2 for $7.95). I opted for the Miami, the California, and the spicy tuna for my inaugural run and added a seaweed salad. Overall, each roll ended up yielding 8 bite-sized pieces which worked out well for me and the hubs (with a few left over). We agreed the Miami and the California were decent, but we probably would not order the spicy tuna again as it was not spicy nor did it taste much like tuna (it was super mayo heavy, blended, and mushy). My seaweed salad was also decent. + Price point was really fair (in my opinion). As I mentioned, I got 3 basic rolls (8 pieces each) and a seaweed salad for just over $14. -- Drink selections were somewhat limited: some Coke products in bottles in a cooler, 5-6 coke products on fountain, or a Gold Peak Tea machine with 4 flavors. Lastly, OEC is located a the right end of the strip by ILoveKickboxing. I will probably try them again given the reasonable price point, decent basic rolls, and close proximity to iLKB as I can hit it after class. Aside from that, I would not go out of my way just to go here again. Fingers crossed they get to earning that 'express' soon and I promise to bump up that star rating. read more

If I had to sum up my experience here in one word (I can't even remember the name of the restaurant, it's so unmemorable) it would be: bad. There is no music playing in the restaurant, it's unwelcoming, and the staff has poor English. It smells like paint (since it's fairly new) and looks like any other Chinese fast food restaurant. The people working in the restaurant aren't even Japanese or Chinese, they are Vietnamese. The food comes in styrofoam boxes- everything comes in some sort of box- it looks like they don't have any "for here" utensils or plates. I got the chicken habachi and the seaweed salad. The chicken habachi was basically a huge container of steamed rice, food court quality vegetables, and mysterious meat supposed to be chicken. The seaweed salad wasn't bad though. TL;DR: 2/10 service 1/10 atmosphere 0/10 presentation 1/10 food Will not be back. Good if you just want food court quality food. read more

OEC closed. The place is now called Nara Hibachi Express. It's very affordable and quick. I ordered the steak and shrimp hibachi. It was delicious and very flavorful. The crab rangoons are delicious too. It's a short drive from my place, so I will be coming here more often. Definitely check this place out if you're into hibachi!
