    Black garlic Ramen

Ramen was okay for a not very Asian city such as Boise. I just wanted something Asian/homey after many days of non Asian food. It still hit the spot. I would probably give it a 3 in Seattle (my home). But I'd give it a 4 in Boise. Meat was little tough, needs to be thicker and juicier, that would be main critique. In Seattle all the ramen places have better meat slices. It was well flavored though. Broth was right consistency. Lots of toppings which was good. Eggs were perfectly done. Service was quick and helpful - they gave me a spicy sauce at my request which gave the soul a nice kick. Ambiance was peaceful I liked the colorful wall art.

Clean spot, ramen was tasty I wish it was served a bit hotter though. The sushi was ok but for the price wasn't the greatest. Poke was solid. Overall a very solid spot.

Came in today to grab some sesame balls for my Grandma. They are her favorite and Nara seems to be the only joint in town that sells them. I called ahead to have them ready for me just to go in and pick up. There is a Nara by my house and it's not a impressive a this venue. There's beautiful wall art. Decorative flags above the sushi bar. It's a very bright and spacious venue. There were bamboo plants and orchids (I don't know if the orchids were real but they looked real) that added such a nice touch to the place. I did arrive a little early so I hung out for a bit. I told a couple people my name so good think they would put two and two together and know it was my to go order. The gal walked back and forth with by bag. Finally she realized it was my bag and handed it to me. I think it was the way she asked if I had paid yet that rubbed me the wrong way. She made it sound like I didn't pay. I got my tab taken care of a soon as I walked in. A different approach would have been nice. I'm sure the sesame balls were good. They were nice and hot when I opened the box. I wasn't really impressed wit the ramen at the other location so I don't know if I'll try anything else besides the teas and the sesame balls here. And honestly the customer service wa a turn off as well so who knows if I'll be back.

Excellent addition to the shopping neighborhood. While you are shopping it up at one of the stores nearby, add this to you, "what do you want for lunch?" conversation. And then eat here! Top ramen in town and it has been found! Call ahead for a pickup order or come before the lunch/dinner rush. If you can't decide, go with what I go with, the black garlic ramen. To me it is the best! Plenty of parking and the place is very clean and tidy. As a side note, beautiful wall mural to see so if you love art, come stare at it while you eat ramen, like me. insert love eyes here :)

I've been to quite a number of ramen shops across the country as well as Japan (maybe more than I'd like to admit due to my ramen addiction), and I'd say Nara is in my top 10! Having recently moved here, I quickly sought out ramen restaurants that would be my new go-to and was pleasantly surprised by Nara. As soon as I saw they had bamboo shoots included, I knew this place was going to be good. Turns out, it was much better than good - it was delicious! I ordered the Tonkotsu ramen, which is a pork-based broth. It was rich and had the right amount of creaminess that some ramen shops fail to capture for this specific type of soup. The chashu was a bit broiled, which I particularly liked since most ramen shops will serve as is but my personal preference is that it's broiled before serving. The egg yolk also wasn't overcooked - yay! I've already been back here a few times since my first visit and the quality has been consistent each time. Plus side here is that they also serve boba drinks, so you can hit two birds with one. Highly recommend this place if you're in the area!

Thank goodness we found it! This area is so lacking in great places like this! The Treasure Valley is starving for good ramen and sushi and this place hits the spot. Came here last week with our daughter to try it out. Walking in very open, modern place and very clean. Wait staff is super friendly and menu options for both ramen, sushi and other items is fantastic. For dinner I had the spicy Tantanmen and a sushi roll both were fantastic. My wife and daughter split the pork bun appetizer and each had their own sushi roll. They thoroughly enjoyed theirs as well. We will be looking forward to getting back here and giving some of the other options a try. I would highly recommend this new spot and a great option.

I was pleasantly surprised! The gyoza was fantastic and the sushi was quite good. Will defiantly return to try the ramen.

Quite good! Easy parking, convenient location & open until 9 all nights except Sunday until 8. Nice atmosphere & eclectic customer demographics. I went with my new friend, Toto, who suggested the restaurant as it was my 1st time having non-instant ramen. We were seated between a middle-aged married couple, enjoying a boat of sushi and an elderly Asian couple sipping on mild broth ramen. There were some young, trendy people as well as a large Asian family at a high-top table. We also noticed several college students enjoying their meals. The lighting was a bit bright for dinner time, but the sound level was perfect to hold a conversation and not have to strain. I personally love that Jacob, our smiling & helpful server, brought out chopsticks and forks in the beginning. He was quite knowledgeable on the menu and was able to help us completely in our choices. The menu is not huge but certainly has enough items to keep everybody happy. Do not be concerned when you read that a certain dish is 'spicy', because it will not be spicy at all. I like to have a lot of flavor, but not heat. Toto was a bit disappointed that his ramen didn't come with egg, but from the menu, it is clear that not all do. I ordered the Spicy Beef Ramen, and it seriously and literally had NO heat. I asked our server Jason, and he said, that if you want it really to have some heat, you need to get a side of chili sauce or Habanero sauce that they will gladly bring out to you. The rich broth was accompanied by a good amount of cilantro and scallions, giving a great balance of fresh and hearty flavor to the dish. They did not skimp on the beef either. It was generous and tender. I just wish that the ramen was served in a warmer broth, for it was not cold, but really should have been steaming. The noodles were a bit thin, letting us know that they were not made in-house, yet they still held their shape (not over-cooked) and were flavorful. I also was able to enjoy bubble tea for my first time. Ordering the Nara Milk Tea, which is a combination of black tea, caramel, and boba beads, giving a delightfully chewy sensation, but surprisingly, not too sweet. I want you to know that it is possible to get a to-go container, if you could not finish all of your ramen and broth. However, if you order it to-go hot from the kitchen, the lid will become vacuum sealed and very difficult to remove (see photo). Yes, there are restrooms available in the back, but they are slightly difficult to find as they are hidden behind a black curtain, beyond the service area. Prices are extremely reasonable, and payment is directly handled at the table, but Jacob did not hover over us as we paid our bills. You are able to get a printed receipt directly at the table, as well. As we were leaving, Jacob made sure to thank us and say good night. :) I personally will return to try more items on the menu and experience the relaxed & knowledgeable service again.

I went to Nara on Valentine's Day and boy was it a treat! I've gone to the Nara on State street but the location on Franklin was far superior! I arrived around 6:15pm and for a party of two there was literally no wait as we sat at the bar. The service was great and the food was mouth watering. We ordered the pork bao buns that were fluffy and delicious, easily a 10/10. We each also ordered the spicy ramen from the servers recommendation and it didn't disappoint. The broth was decadent and complex and the noodles were perfectly cooked. I would highly recommend this spot to anyone, especially with the fun and buzzing atmosphere.

If you are looking for the absolute WORST sushi experience in the entire Treasure Valley,…read morecongratulations, you found it. I have never dealt with such atrocious service & their Sushi was subpar at best & that's being generous. Right out of the gate, it was a total disaster. The waitress brought absolutely nothing to the table--no utensils, no ginger, no wasabi, nothing. You know, the standard basics that literally every other sushi joint on the planet drops off on autopilot? We had to literally request every single item just to physically eat our meal. Then came the food--or whatever you want to call it. I specifically asked if I could swap tuna for yellowtail and asked about getting what I actually liked instead of just settling for "chef's choice." They completely ignored me & brought the exact opposite of what I ordered. Nothing we got was correct. My guest ordered a lobster and fish roll, and they handed her a plate of literal, unidentifiable mush. There were no actual pieces of fish or lobster to be found anywhere in it. Just mush. And the scam they pulled with the ikura was unbelievable. I ordered two portions, which is supposed to be four pieces total, which again is commonly standard at any other Sushi restaurant. Instead, they brought out two pieces. When I pointed it out, the manager actually came over to our table to argue with me, insisting I was going to be charged full price for half the food. Literally $5ea for 1 piece of Sashimi that tasted like shit. Outside of the painfully incompetent service and the manager's garbage attitude, the fish had no flavor, They didn't even bring out all the food we ordered, but we were so fed up and disgusted by that point that we just paid the bill and walked out. I don't know if this is how they run their business every single day, but it was bad enough to warrant this warning. There are plenty of incredible sushi spots around here. Do not waste your time or your money at this absolute trainwreck of a restaurant. I guarantee I will never step foot in this place again.
