A nice little find. It looks like they do a big take-out business. The dining room is rather sparse. The food however, was great. The teriyaki sauce was full bodied with strong flavor and not overly sugary. The tempura was light and crispy. Service was fast and the prices were very reasonable for the plentiful servings. Went in today cause I was craving chicken Katsu. Got my chicken Katsu went back home & when I took a bite the chicken was so hard & rubbery I thought I wasn't eating chicken for a second. Called them back to see if they could make a new one & I went over the old man gave me my money back & decided not to cook my chicken. He literally said "no more fried chicken." Apparently they only have one fryer and they use that for there Gyozas and tempura that the temp is set so high that they need to double dip the chicken to fry the outside panko layer and when that happens the chicken over cooks. I have never felt disrespected before.. & to have the old man not cook the chicken just show poor customer service. Saw that they had 3 1-2 stars review but I tried to give them the benefit of the doubt but I was highly disappointed. Never going here again. read more

Stopped by for lunch while in Newberg. Nara Teriyaki is just a hole in the wall, nothing special to look at, but the food was good at this dinky family-owned restaurant. The chicken teriyaki was delicious; portion sizes were generous. Chicken Katsu equally good. We were pleased with the flavors and presentation. They brought our meals to our table, but that's where the service stops. Eat-in customers are expected to bus their own dishes (and scrape them before putting them in the bus trays). The place could use a thorough cleaning, we could see -- walls over the cooking area showed dirt / grease buildup. Could be better, but easily remedied. read more

I would love to give them more stars because the food is delicious! However in the 2 years I've been going here I have never experienced such horrible customer service on the end of one of the female cashiers. I was berated and screamed at in front of customers and other employees for a mistake that was completely not my fault and I was ever so politely trying to correct. Showed up 20 mins later to pick up, ended up waiting for another 30 mins. The service is terrible, they answer the phone multiple times while in the middle of talking to you. The place itself is pretty much a hole in the wall but in my experience some of those places have the best food. The service was friendly and the food was delicious. It is obviously pretty popular with regulars as many people were coming in to pick up to go orders while we were there eating in. The peanut sauce and teriyaki sauce were fantastic. Killer food. My husband is Asian and very picky about authenticity and he loved the tofu stir fry (he's vegetarian). I had the chicken Katsu with fried rice. Really delicious! I prefer the teriyaki sauce over the Katsu sauce and I put it on my chicken and my fried rice. YUM! This is a little hole in the wall that might not get noticed but it's worth looking into. Worst. Service. Ever. We have eaten here several times and everytime it is delicious HOWEVER...each time takes forever to get your order. Even when I call it in it still takes 10-20 mins LONGER then they say. The poor girl at the front has no idea what she is doing. We asked how long gyozas would be..she blew her cheeks at us....we asked how much longer the order would take..she blew her cheeks at us. This evening we placed an order for spicy pork. After..again waiting 15 more then the original time (making it 35 mins we waited) I got the order home ate some of the salad and a few bites of the meat to find it was chicken. We called and the the person on the other end said cone down and we will sort it out. When we got there he said "why did you eat from it!!" And we said because we didnt realize it was chicken until we had a couple bites. We didnt eat a ton of it..literally 2-3 bites and we were like..oh thats chicken. The gentleman was really un-willing to remake the order until my husband caused a bit of a stink. And even then he wanted us to pay another $1.50 after they screwed up! Unbelievable! ! Great portions, tasty food. There is no ambience in the restaurant and it's not super clean so we usually do take out. But if you are looking for a yummy meal and want to have leftovers later, Nara is perfect. They are pretty busy. The food is good, however the last time we went which was now 6 days ago, the three people that are there all got food poisoning. One of which is now in the hospital. I've been going to Nara for a couple months now. I've eaten there maybe around 20 times? The food is good and they are very generous with the portions and I rarely finish it all. The actual restraunt is very small and dirty, but I've never had any serious hygiene issues yet. My biggest complaint is that the workers there are very unhappy to be there, I've never received a thank you or a smile when ordering. Other than that it was a pretty good eat. read more

If you want to eat here you have to go in. The food is great. My husband and I love it but it's usually busy and we like to call in to pick it up. But WE NEVER GET THROUGH. The owner is flat out incompetent. My girlfriend got us dinner to go last night from Nara and the young lady at the register failed to give her the debit card back. Which is fine, things happen right? When she called to ask if she could come get it the young lady told her they were closing and she had to come the next day. Today my girl was extremely busy and asked that I go and retrieve the card. I hopped in the car and headed to newberg. As my girlfriend called to give permission for me to accept the card on her behalf the owner answered. Not only was the owner very rude but also very hard to understand. He proceeded to hang up on her multiple times. (At this point I've already been driving 20 min). I decided to call my self in hopes that it was just a miscommunication and I could explain the situation better. As soon as I said her name the owner hung up on me as well! We have been faithful customers for a long time now but after this experience with the ownership and seeing just how little the owners and employees care about their customers WE WILL NEVER GO BACK! I hope everyone reads this and realizes that if they don't get care enough to speak politely to their faithful customers then I doubt they care to provide healthy and sanitary food. read more
