Seriously though, one of the best Italian sammich I've ever eaten was at this place. I seriously wish they'd open one of these spots in Tampa. I'd gain so much weight. When you bite into one of their Italian grindahs, you can taste each of the individual meats, and the provolone cheese is so sharp, it will cut your tongue. And the bread... Goodness, you just can't get bread like that south of the Mason-Dixon Line. If you're unfortunate enough to live in this underwhelming city, you can at least be proud of one thing--NARDELI'S. I go here at least once a week, because they make my favorite sandwiches in CT. My personal favorites are the Italian combo and the American combo, which give you a ton of meat and cheese on great Italian bread, and the excellent pepper mix is unbeatable. I wish I could get that stuff at every sandwich shop. The warm turkey club is also a great choice, with tons of gooey goodness. My one warning is that things can get a bit pricey if you don't take care, but everything is good so I usually just accept it. And be sure to give a tip to hear the shout of "Grazie!" read more

This place was a favorite back in high school. It's an institution, but unfortunately seems to be living on it's past reputation. They changed the bread years ago, and have been slowly lowering the portions. I love tradition, but only when the current place warrants the accolades. Large beautiful deli case is pretty much the first thing you see on the way in the door...hard to imagine more good looking deli stuff in one place. Place is well lit, warm and the folks are attentive. I had the Proscuitto Hot Pepper Chicken grinder, a cup of fruit salad, and more birch beer. Sandwich is delivered wrapped in butcher paper. Bread is fresh, warm, and crusty, just as it should be. Sandwhich was tasty. Half was just right. Fruit good, but the regular stuff. I have decided after trying twice, I love birch beer. I like this place and I'm glad that the grinder went down so much in size, because now I feel better about myself when I eat them. My one complaint, and it's a big one, is that everything is always so messy. If I could give more than 5 stars I would! My husband and I are from North Carolina so we wanted to experience a genuine Northern Deli. As soon as we walked in, we were greeted happily and super impressed by the display of so many foods! Very clean and appealing to the eye! I got an Italian Grinder all the way and I've never had a better sub! Their combo of toppings is perfect! I also tried the potato salad which was amazing! And got a jar of Napoli Hot Stuffed Cherry Peppers to take with us! We told the owner we were from NC and weren't sure we could get the peppers there but tried them yesterday and loved them! He told us to call him whenever we wanted them and he'd ship them to us! How awesome! And then gave us some free fresh bread to go with them! 100% impressed with this place and the service! Something has gone backwards! I ordered a wrap yesterday. When the clerk asked if I wanted it grilled I said "very little". I got my marinated Mushrooms and paid. What I didn't know was when they grilled my wrap, it got stuck to the grill. Instead of making a new one they just wrapped it up and sent me on my way. When I got home, I opened it up and found the wrap was burnt and torn apart(holes everywhere). I couldn't even pick it up. I used a fork and discovered the bottom was burnt to where I couldn't eat it. And the topper... I tipped them. (Even that, they USED to say grazie when you tip...guess that's gone too!) When I called to complain, they already had an explanation... they did offer to make a new one and bring it to me...but how can I trust that they won't "mess" with my food, when they purposly snuck it by me while I was standing there? If they had just fixed it when they saw what happened, before I went home, there wouldn't have been a problem. Gonna be a while before I go back! Wish there was a way to post a picture. read more

Arguably the best hot and cold grinders in the State. No matter what you order, it's prepared fresh AND quick. I've been to the Danbury location twice and tried the Naugatuck location this weekend. Their portions are so plentiful that even a half grinder will fill most appetites. I also recommend their own brand of bottled soft drinks. I choose this place for dinner instead of Subway because their choices are more fresh an unique and its a local business. I ordered a breaded chicken cutlet with mozzarella on a soft roll. They heated up up the cutlet and the sandwich I asked the food prepper guy if I could have the marina sauce on the side and he heated that for me too. I took it to go and ate it in my car. I've been a customer for many years. Today was the very first time they ever got my order wrong. That being said, when I called to let them know, the owner answered the phone and she was very apologetic. In addition to that, she also offered not only to replace it, but she offered to have someone drop it off to my house for no charge. I live close by so, I just made the quick drive myself. When I got there, the owner herself had made me a new panini, apologized again, AND she gave me a free parfait dessert for my trouble. It is refreshing to see a business not only fix their mistake, but to go above and beyond the way they did. If I wasn't already a loyal customer, I definitely would be after today. Nardelli's has a fun atmosphere with a friendly staff.. The portions and prices are fair.. However Nardelli's quality and service appear to be going downhill.. My family has phoned in our dinner order once a week for nearly three years and sadly my disappointment has lead me here. The problem is wrong orders and poor presentation. We stopped going there for a while then decided to give them second chance and on our second week back our order was wrong again. Sadly I don't think this family will be going back. Another great find in Naugatuck! I am obsessed with Nardellis. They are an Italian style deli, and I believe they have 3 locations in Connecticut. Their grinders are phenomenal, so fresh, and the bread is delicious. Their salads are huge, and they put lots of veggies in them and grilled chicken if you ask for it. They also have really good pasta salads, like their cavatelli and broccoli and tortellini salad. Oh, and I recently went to a party and didn't have time to bake, so I stopped here and bought 1/2 dozen cannoli. TO DIE FOR. Probably the best cannoli I have ever had. They also make a cheesecake burrito which I have yet to try. It actually has a money back guarantee. The staff is really friendly. They have places to sit. Go here if you are in the area. I went to Nordeli's on Watertown Ave in Waterbury for a turkey sandwich & a salad to go with it. I was told by the cashier they don't specialize in salads (which is ok!) Being that everything to make a salad is a sandwich topping I asked if I could create a salad. She told me I could so I asked for lettuce, tomato, cucumbers, cheese, onions, turkey, & sliced fruit. They make the salad and give it to me & it looked good!! I tipped $5 they rang the bell, screamed and I took the salad back to office to eat. I took ONE BITE to find they did NOT WASH the lettuce. I couldn't leave the office to return the salad so I ate the turkey... A PORTION OF IT HAD MOLD FUR GROWING ON IT... the cucumbers weren't crunchy they were soft and discolored... the fruit were grapes (which is fine) but the turn off of top of bitter lettuce and old turkey was that they left the grape branch trash in the salad. read more

I ordered a sandwich with tomato, mozzarella and balsamic vinegar. They straight up put three crappy slices of tomato and three tiny slices of mozzarella. It was basically a bread sandwich. It's not an Italian deli like people told me. It was a bummer for me that they had no spinach, broccoli rabe, sun dried tomatoes. My wife or myself purchase dinner from Nardellis Naugatuck once to twice a week. Usually good grinders but due to an extremely bland roast beef and cheese the past two visits we asked for oil vinegar salt & pepper tonight. Just finished forcing this grinder down as it tasted like the salt was poured on it and the pepper was overbearing. Kinda inconvenient to leave the house to bring it back. Anyway, I suppose my point is people make mistakes and that's understandable but maybe the staff needs some retraining in sandwich making. I'm still tasting the salt in my mouth as I type.
