My dentist is located near this Nardelli's Grinder Shoppe, and the promise of re-experiencing a stuffed baked pastrami grinder made the bi-annual appointment something to look forward to. I ordered with a side of coleslaw, a perfect combination. So glad the folks at the counter encouraged me to try their favorite item on the menu during a Yelp event commemorating Nardelli's centennial. Although I live thirty minutes away, I will choose this location when in area. The counter folks are so friendly and helpful, parking is easy, and condiments and meats are perfectly proportioned.

Waffle Rolled Cheesecake

I've been in Connecticut for 13 years and I've never been to a Nardelli's. Huge mistake on my part, I have definitely learned from it. I got parking when I pulled up right on the side. I walked in and there was a few people ahead of me. Stacey greeted me as soon as I came in and said she'll be right with me. She did a wonderful job of explaining my choices and getting the food prepared quickly. Tons of delicious choices in the food case. I changed my mind three times before I settled on the prosciutto hot pepper chicken grinder. Obviously I got it toasted to bring out more of the flavor. I decided to get a dessert. I originally picked up a red velvet cake. On my way back to the register I noticed the most amazing thing I've ever seen, Waffle rolled cheesecake! I filled up my cup with lemonade, thanked Stacey for her hospitality, and grabbed my food to go. Before pulling away I had to sample the waffle cheesecake. Without exaggeration, this is the greatest dessert I've ever eaten and will be back soon to Nardelli's. Loved the grinder. The combination of chicken with prosciutto was fantastic. The hot peppers were just a bonus to go along with the melted provolone on the. Highly satisfied and five stars with my experience.

Quarter for scale, wow!

Nardelli's in Naugatuck is simply outstanding! When I arrived the staff was super attentive and friendly as I made my selections. I chose the vegan Italian grinder, which came piled high with vegan deli meat. They offer vegan shredded cheese and mayo as well. There is also a vegan chick'n sandwich recently added to the menu. I was dead set on the cold cut sub but I passed a billboard along my drive in which showed the chick'n sub. The deli is full of nostalgic pictures on the wall about the history of the area as well as celebrating Nardelli's own place in that history of the past 100 years serving up delicious food. Nardelli's has a place in my history as well. I remember stopping several times at another Nardelli's location just off the highway as a kid. My father and I would share a sandwich, a bag of chips, and a couple sodas. It was always a welcome sight after a long ride up from Pennsylvania on our way to Massachusetts. We took that ride nearly every weekend for four years. Check out Nardelli's for epic hot or cold subs, salads, meats, desserts, and more!

This Chocolate mousse is a must try!

You can't live in CT and go without trying a grinder from Nardellis! They use great quality ingredients and their grinders are HUGE! You have a great variety to select from, plus they also have Salad options and some market items too! It's so fun to look at what they have available while waiting for your grinder to be prepared. Which means you'll be getting dessert! Dessert is an absolute must try, I recommend starting with the chocolate mousse if you love chocolate, it's the best I've ever had!

Italian Combo Half Grinder

A classic spot for grinders in town! You can never go wrong with their Italian combo, and they have an awesome selection of hot food, pasta salad, and more. I love their bread, and the meat and produce is always fresh.

If you are local to CT, there is no way you have not heard of the famous grinder (sub/sandwich) shop! They have been famously featured on many touristy informationals and even on tv/news outlet and outrightly deservedly so! They have been such a CT staple that their interior decor is still vintage and gives a really cool retro feeling if you decide to eat on the spot Nardelli's serve a variety of sandwich options and sides for you to pick for - the choices are endless and every time you stop by you are tempted to try something new because nothing disappoints! I got my usual Italian combo - this menu item is recommended by Nardelli's themselves and as you can guess, within first bite you can find out why! The sandwich is packed with meats and has veggies/sauces to balance it. It's so packed you feel disappointed by all the other sandwiches you may have ordered from competitor shops and you will never stray away from being a Nardelli's patrons. I also got to try a new sandwich this time - shaved steak and cheese grinder - this reminds me of those Philly cheesesteak except CT style. I think I might prefer this because the shaved steak is cut in much smaller pieces and comes with lettuce/tomato/mayo/olive/etc which balances the meats great. I would definitely order this again! Also tried the coleslaw and it was neither too sweet or salty, perfectly seasoned and fresh! You can really tell it was made in-house.

The shoppe is deceiving from the outside. I wouldn't expect much but the second I walked in, I was immediately charmed by the staff, the fresh food in the deli cases and the family business vibe. The women behind the counter were friendly and energetic. They helped me pick out a loaded steak grinder. It was gigantic! I was grateful to be splitting it with my husband. The bread was fresh and the ingredients were so well balanced. The real star of the show was the cheesecake waffle cone. We both agreed that it would be worth the 30 minute drive from Hamden to Naugatuck for that alone! We will definitely be back. Cheers to 100 years, Nardelli's! Wishing you a hundred more!

100 year anniversary commemorative cup- $0.99 refills!!!

Excellent customer service was provided during our last visit on 3/5/22. We had a coupon to honor Nardelli's 100 year anniversary- three full grinders (no plant-based subs per the coupon- no worries there) for $19.22. Excellent sandwiches made exactly as specified. My go-to is the Buffalo chicken (with blue cheese), my husband opted for the classic Italian, and my son enjoyed his turkey and cheese- Mayo only. My daughter ordered Mac and cheese, which they offer cold or warmed. She also wanted a Caesar salad with chicken, which wasn't in the case, so the gentleman waiting on me made it to order. I wish I got his name- he provided the best service that I have ever encountered in ANY food establishment (he was thin with short hair and glasses). They also provided commemorative plastic cups for the same price as their regular fountain drinks. Refills will only be $0.99 in the future. I will remember to keep my cup handy when driving by coming home from work daily. Of note- if you get the coupon- it is only valid at the Naugatuck, Southbury or Oxford stores. We will keep coming back!

Worst experience I ever had. 20-25 years ago, even 15 years ago they rocked, but now they've rolled....down the toilet! I spent 28 bucks for this abomination they sell as a eggplant grinder and a mozz and tomato salad which was ok. The grinder? It wasn't fit to feed a dog! See picture. Nothing fresh, all premade, sub par ingredients, the eggplant was flavorless mush that soaked the bread and a bunch of hard, unthawed chunks. Barely any cheese and it all congealed into a disgusting slurry. The sauce was "Ragu reject" not allowed in reform school or Iranian prison cafeterias. Never again.

Pretty awesome meatball grinder. Sauce was tasty. Bread was super fresh. Nice place. Service was really friendly. Fountain and bottled soda. Numerous diet options. Full deli as well with desserts.

Prosciutto and hot pepper chicken

In all seriousness, I really think there needs to be more adults present in the evenings because the quality of the sandwiches seriously declines with the millennials there by themselves. During the day, I never run into problems like I do after 6pm. Below is a picture of my sandwich that I opened when I got home. I asked for light mayonnaise. I probably should have gone back and asked for a new sandwich, but who wants to go through all that trouble?

A half full container of macaroni salad I can't believe I paid money for, and it was small to begin with, even if it was full.

The outdoor seating was perfect on a mild summer night. They offer a solid cocktail list - I had the smoked Manhattan. The menu had a variety of tasty options, many with Italian influences. I went with the diver scallops & risotto, and Dad went with the pork chop scarpariello - both were quite good. Service was timely and friendly.

I would not be able to recommend this restaurant after our one and only experience dining there…read morelast night. My husband and I are in the area for a weekend getaway and wanted to find a nice place for a date night. We chose Vyne after looking at their menu, which appeared elevated and unique. Pros and Cons below but the spark notes are: Nice atmosphere, good service, bad (and expensive) food. Pros: *The atmosphere is nice. Slightly elevated, beautiful decor, very nice bar area, and the outdoor area is a vibe. *Service was good. Our waitress was kind, efficient and helpful. *Our cocktails were great. Delicious, not wildly overpriced, and fresh. Cons and the reason why I could not recommend going to this restaurant: Overall the food was wildly disappointing, especially at this price point. We paid (with tip and 2 cocktails each) $250 for food we couldn't finish it was so poorly cooked and prepared. * Surf & Turf appetizer (24) - interesting and fresh spring flavor but the shrimp (a main component of the dish) was overcooked. * Scallop entree($44)- Scallops were not cooked well. They were very rubbery, chewy and bouncy. I left two on the plate. The flavor profile was also heavily oil. * Side of Mac&Cheese - now, I have NEVER not finished mac&cheese, it's my absolute favorite food and a treat for me to order. This mac&cheese was so bad that we had 2 bites and didn't finish. For a $9.50 side I would expect something interesting. Maybe a baked dish? Or three cheeses? Anything than what we got - which was shell pasta (undercooked) and a cheese sauce (similar to a Velveeta). There was also a strange aftertaste, almost like a spoiled milk. Besides that aftertaste there was absolutely no flavor. * The Filet Mignon ($52) - maybe the most disappointing of all our dishes with a theme of badly cooked and no flavor. Asked for it cooked medium rare and closer to the rare side - it came to us as a solid medium. The steak didn't seem to be seasoned at all. No flavor. The potatoes had no crisp and absolutely no flavor. There was a generic BBQ sauce on the plate. With no salt and pepper on the table (on purpose with the expectation that everything would be flavored perfectly) it made absolutely no sense to finish a dish that we could make better at home. A truly disappointing meal that we couldn't finish, paid $$$$ for and had to stop at fast food on the way home from because we were still so hungry. I don't review often but I needed to because this is an expensive restaurant for what it is, and I want to make sure people know what they're getting into. Maybe we just went on a bad night, but we won't be going back to find out.
