Sugo is easily one of my favorite spots. The food is always so good, and the atmosphere is what makes it even better. It's the perfect place for a date night, but it's also such a fun spot for a girls' night out. The vibe is cozy, cute, and makes you want to stay for hours. My go-to is always the Penne alla Vodka. It's seriously so good and I order it every time I go. And don't even get me started on Sugo's Cake it's my favorite dessert and something I look forward to every visit. My wife and I were at a distillery in Roxbury. We live in Danbury. I was looking for a quality food spot in between and newtown came to mind. So, knowing that Sugo existed, I immediately routed us to their location, as this is a place that's been on my list of places to try. Short view? Everything started great. But did not follow through. The service was awesome. Our waitress, and forgive me as I cannot remember her name, was amazing. When we arrived we observed her interactions with her child and it automatically endeared her to us. And, as a server she was absolutely top notch. We understand from conversations, that she often works the bar. Either way she is awesome and the bright spot of our experience. The ambiance of the place was beautiful. Super refined looking, albeit with uncomfortable chairs at the tables. But I'm not looking for "comfort" per se, I'm looking for beauty. And this spot hits the mark. The we began ordering. Off the cocktail menu, I ordered their version of a pina colada and it was tasty af but definitely weak. My wife ordered a dirty martini with bleu cheese olives that she felt was weak. After those, we each ordered French martinis, that were super lacking in all flavor save for vodka. So strong, a bonus, but not good. As an app, we ordered their calamari which I order everywhere we go. This one lived up to the standard. Nice, big, meaty pieces of squid. A good breading, and a decent (if not underwhelming) sauce. I ordered their version carbonara as a main, and it was likewise, underwhelming. It was over buttered and over creamed. Which, if one knows anything about a traditional carbonara, it involves neither butter nor cream. I get that this is a gastropub and as such they will take liberty with ingredients and traditions; however, if I can make a better one at home... what's the point? My wife ordered the seafood grill which included branzino and shrimp. The branzino was delicious (but slightly over), but the shrimp stopped everything. The shrimp was rotten. On the plate it smelled like an unclean barn. I will say, we had to bring this issue to the attention of our server, and she kindly and appropriately comped our latter two drinks as a result. This made us happy as the drinks comped over the price of the plate, however, the smell is one that stays with us. Even at the time of this writing. We finished up our meal. I took home most of my carbonara as I felt confident I could make it taste good at home, but that's not the point of dining out. If and when I spend this type of money on food, I expect it to be right. This experience was not right. And if it weren't for the server, this review would be a 2 star. read more

The first time I came here was in the summer with some friends. We sat outside and got a round of drinks with a charcuterie board. Sooo good! We had a fantastic time together. I ended up returning a year later for happy hour with a different friend. Again the cocktails were amazing and all of the food was soooo good! It was my birthday and it was in the reservation. We were a party of 5. We came here thinking it would be an amazing night. It was not. The service was terrible. There were a total of 6 tables here and we ordered our food and it took 45 minutes to an hour. We got here at 5:30 and didn't even get the check until 8. The food was good. We saw our waiter a max of 6 times the whole night and it took forever to get our drinks. To add on to this it took a longer than usual time to get dessert, yet we were the only ones getting anything. And when it came out they did not even put a candle or anything for a happy birthday gesture. It was in the reservation and was said at the table. Throughly disappointed. I love this place. When you walk in the door you immediately notice that it's beautiful and well-decorated. The waitstaff were attentive and the food was solid too. First visit here was on a Saturday night. Ate inside since all the tables outside had been taken. We started with a Margherita pizza which was delicious. For main we had the gnocchi pesto which was excellent and i had the pasta in a lemon sauce which was delicious. Other party o was with had pasta with mussels which she loved. The star of the show hands down was the Sugo dessert. In my life I have never had warm sponge cake but it works and it was outstanding. My husband and I enjoyed a lovely evening at sugo on at a recent Saturday night. We had 6pm reservations- and had no issues being seated early. We probably didn't need reservations, but it's always good to be covered. Everything was wonderful- from service to taste of food. I had the best passion fruit ginger beer mocktail - it was the tastiest drink I have had at a restaurant. I decided to pick off of three small plates- the sautéed shrimp, fried artichokes and the fig crostini. The fig crostini was my favorite- it was sweet - almost like a dessert. The sautéed shrimp was delicious and the fried artichokes were tasty (although the accompanying sauce was wicked spicy for me- my husband liked it). He got a prosciutto pizza for an appetizer and the osso bucco for his main. He devoured everything- literally left no crumbs. Tried this place for brunch with friends after seeing a post on instagram. Loved the bottomless brunch but the server was very slow with the refills to the point where we asked for new bottles and just poured ourselves. Food was good but the vibes were lacking. It was empty and seemed to cater to an older crowd with no music and random sports on the tv at the bar. I had the breakfast pizza but it was dry and lacking a sort of sauce to bring it all together. I would say "very good" FOOD: Arancini with parmigiano cream sauce was very tasty, Gnocchi Bolognese was great, portion was on the small side, but just enough to fill you up, with possible room for dessert. The venue is constantly being improved with details that make your experience better with things like decorative accents and seasonal theme driven decor that increases the uniqueness of this place. I'm typically here for the lunch special (see photo of that menu below). Three courses including appetizer which includes choice of soup of the day that is always top notch or a choice of four salads my favorite being the arugula and pear, a tapas sized entree my favorite being the Chicken Scarpariello, and a choice of six different desserts my favorite being the Espresso Crunch for an incredible $17.95 !!! You can't make it this cheap at home!!! This place was beautifully designed from the small fall charms on the cocktail cups to the cute little napkin holders. The wall design behind the bar is pretty cool too. The service was great, the server was attentive and very friendly. The bartender was great as all the cocktails were very great and there's so many options as far as cocktails. The bartender was nice enough to let us try the fall new cocktails such as the amaretto espresso martini, the bees knees fall version, a cool pumpkin espresso martini with toasted marshmallows on top (not pictured). The food was so so good. The calamari was crispy and flavorful, I enjoyed the Cacio e Pepe with the breaded chicken cutlet. I would definitely recommend this place. Ordered delivery from Sugo Gastrobar in Sandy Hook CT. I have been going back and forth between & . Im always interested in a restaurants meatballs so we shared a small plate of fried meatballs. A very good meatball just lacking enough sauce. The order was of three meatballs and there was not enough sauce to cover all three. My husband went with the classic chicken parm. I tried his and enjoyed his more than mine. His cutlets were nice in thin with a nice crisp thin breading. I ordered the Sunday gravy which was short rib, braciole, a meatball, sausage, and ragu over rigatoni. The short rib nice and tender but a small piece. Sugo has a really great meatball. This was my first time tasting braciole I could not quite place the tastes I would have it again. I would have dropped the sausage and wish I had a choice for my pasta. The rigatoni were nice and big and tasted fresh. Even though I prefer choosing my pasta the rigatoni did not disappoint. I would love to eat at Sugo and get the full experience.
