We are now officially Guadz...came looking for an authentic Mexican breakfast on Main st and we found Nardos. We were not disappointed. My husband ordered the Chile Verde with eggs. The Chile Verde was delicious and his Over easy eggs were cooked just right. I ordered the Chorizo and eggs. Reminded me of eating at my abuelitas. Each came with refried beans. They were so tasty. We are originally from Fresno and we know authentic Mexican food. And definitely Nardos did not disappoint. Staff was cool, met a young man named Gerardo, and a sweet older woman sitting at the booth. Conclusion, great spot, great service, and some great food. Don't let the wrought iron gate and bars fool you into thinking this place is "uninviting" (my wife's words before we walked in) Because the staff here is so welcoming! Bruno informed us that they ran out of salsa for our chips, but also said that his mother would be making some more. It was SO worth the wait! And food was INCREDIBLE. So much so, that when we were done eating, we ordered something else to go for dinner later on - to be able to try something else off the menu. Don't really get the high reviews here. The chili relleno was tasty as was my ceviche tostado. They use a lot of lard and the chips were thick and greasy. Salsa was all chopped onion with some tomato juice, no chunks of tomatoes or cilantro. Worst salsa ever. No beer here and that was disappointing. Clean enough but I would not go back. The husband had menudo and the kiddos pancakes . The pancakes were on point let me tell you Denny and IHOP don't have nothing on these pancakes. They were so flavorful you could eat them without syrup. The menudo was flavorful and the tripe was so tender. It didn't have that funky smell. For being down by the coast its some of the best I have had. Don't miss out on this place. The selling point for me were there beans. With regular pots and pans, on a grill where you can see, just like all my family did. Hand made tortillas and sopes, to die for! It makes you feel at home and like they're really taking care of the food they make for you. This food is real authentic Mexican food that you'd eat any day of the week at your abuela's or your parent's. We've tried a lot from them but the real winner is their tacos! Took mom to her regular after 8am sunday mass joint. (Burp) Nardo's has been here forever. I had their delicious menudo. Good enough size. Tiene hominy y pata. Son had huevos rancheros. Mom had eggs y frijoles and warm milk. I should have gotten their names pero señora and maybe what could be her son, knew my mom and they were awesomely friendly and always smiling to all who came in to their restaurant. We got the last available booth. This place was packed when we got there and when we left. You can always tell how great of a place is by how busy it is and by their amazing staff. Their food is exactly like my mother used to make, the prices are very reasonable and the service is exceptional. absolutely phenomenal, beyond my wildest expectations‼ my son and i dined at nardo's restaurant and let me tell you, the name "nardo's fine mexican restaurant" is explaining exactly what you'll receive when you order anything from this exquisite restaurant‼‼ my son and i ordered a plethora of different entrees and every last drop was honest to god mind blowing & perfect‼ the phenomenal chefs prepped everything exactly to our (picky) liking! for instance, i mentioned i loved garlic so the owner (and our server) mentioned it to the chefs so they added fresh diced garlic to the freshly made salsa that they just whipped up‼ the corn tortillas i had with my huevos rancheros were the best i've ever had‼ my son almost devoured their largest burrito on the menu, on top of the best nachos (with added shrimp) we've ever had‼ we traveled from orcutt just to try nardo's and it was the best meal we've had in god knows how long ‼ the only problem is, their so good we can't stop craving and thinking about them‼ read more

I came to Guadalupe last year to eat steak at the Tavern Inn... but it was in the morning and way too early... so I stumbled into this small mom and pop restaurant for breakfast. It was your typical small town cafe, with some locals hanging out and chit chatting with the owner... she was a cute "grandma" type that did all the cooking...I felt like I was in their home and they welcomed me to eat there. She smiled and asked what I wanted... I told her I would like to eat something she would cook for breakfast... she had trouble with English and asked her son to see what I wanted... he told her what I wanted and she told her son in spanish what she would cook... he laughed and asked me if I would like cactus and eggs? I could tell he was looking at my face and started laughing again... definitely not what I expected... chorizo and eggs... machaca and eggs... huevos rancheros... chilaquiles and eggs... prickly pear cactus and eggs... hmmmmmm.... no matter, I was game... I told him to have her make it... he smiled and told her to make it... he asked if I wanted it hot... I said 'Yes'... I could see her cutting up the pickled cactus and mixing it with eggs and jalapeno peppers... it came with home made beans and tortillas. She smiled as she handed me her concoction of homemade goodness, waiting to see my reaction. So there I was in a strange town with all the towns people looking at me to see how I would react to their type of "home" cooking. It was goooood... at the time I was in need of a road trip and needed something to take away the stress of work and family pressures... this was just what the doctor ordered... home made love on a plate... as I ate the meal I began to cry. She made this as if I needed it... she knew she needed to give me some love on a plate... this was her special dish for me. It was simple, but it touched my heart. Later that night I ate at the Tavern Inn and had their signature steak... it paled compared to Grandma's cactus and eggs... so I went back this year... on my annual road trip... Oh No!... the place was boarded up and for lease... I couldn't believe it... I really looked forward to getting the cactus and eggs again... then I looked across the street... it seemed like a new place had opened up and people were gathering there now... I wondered if Grandma finally retired and decided to go on her own road trip. Heaven forbid she past away. Then I saw the sign in the new place, "Nardo's"... wait... did they move across the street? But why? So I went across the street and walked into a bigger, newer place... and I saw Grandma sitting at the counter reading the newspaper! And there was her son greeting me once again to their new home... wow... some of the old trinkets came along and sat behind the counter, but it had a new kitchen and stainless steel everything... I inquired to why they moved... the son said the city required they had to upgrade their place in order to meet city codes... this place was going out of business so it seemed logical to buy. Happily I ordered what I had a year ago... but this time there was her daughter in law to cook instead of her... Grandma was proudly showing off her new place and had help to run the place now. As I got my plate of love, everything tasted the same... the towns people were the same and still chit chatting away... I was happy and enjoyed my meal, thanking God that Nardo's was here to stay for a long long time... and in good hands. read more
