The meat was tender and marinated. Great flavor. The sope was soft inside. Also tried a tostada de camaron (shrimp tostada). Very tasty. The tostada was loaded and chopped shrimp, beans, lettuce, avocado and cotija cheese. I could have ate one and been full. My husband tried one taco of carne asada and al pastor with a chile toreado on the side. He said both meats had great flavor and delicious. Lovely place. Any incredibly disorganized restaurant. Owner never paying attention to what her employees are doing because she's always hanging out with the people who are there drinking beer. On three separate occasions, I got my order incomplete . One can be a mistake, two ,I should've paid more attention, but three it's ridiculous... I ordered a platter, which, for a full order was $89 and only ordered half and they charged me $77. But when I saw my receipt they rounded up to 80 without even telling me and of course when I got home noticed my order wasn't complete.. My whole Family has had stomach issues all morning . We were in the area and used yelp to find authentic Mexican. Seems like we found it. It's a small restaurant. Seems like they do a lot of business with locals and takeout. Salsa and guacamole were excellent. Everyone enjoyed their entrees. Generous portions. Friendly staff. Seems they don't have a full bar so we weren't able to get an authentic margarita. They do serve a small selection of canned wine and beer, though. They add 3.5% to the bill if you pay by credit cad. To their credit, there's a sign at the entrance that says so. If you're down for casual and authentic Mexican, this fits the bill. read more

I'm not really the type of person to complain about food service but this was by far the worst service I've received! I was actually excited about eating here since it was recommended to me and I was super disappointed. First off, when I asked about drink recommendations the lady was very short with her answers. I ordered an alcoholic beverage in which she didn't ID me which was a red flag since the beginning, I'm literally barely old enough to drink. I disregard her attitude and was looking forward to my Agua Chiles which was more of a Shrimp cocktail in green sauce. I've never had Agua chiles with tomato in it...Don't get me started about the shrimp itself, it was chewy, and fishy in taste which can only mean the shrimp were old. The ambiance was unwelcoming and I could hear our server talking about her weekend plans more than the TV playing in the background. As well as listening to her brag about paying for a bunch of clothing items for someone and her mentioning under garments too. At that point I wasn't even half way through my shrimp soup you can say lol. But I was disgusted with the shrimp, and the conversation of our server with someone she was calling Abuelito. Every time we come into Santa Maria we look forward to coming here. The food is good. This time I ordered just one chile relleno and the hub's had some shrimp platter. I also orders a margarita on the rocks. The food was delicious as always. The service was a bit slow and they weren't packed. The margarita was horrible as it tasted like pure syrup. I want tequila not just the mix. Maybe it was the type of tequila but it was still not up to par. Lo Mejor De Jalisco. It's just fun to say! This is our go to for Mexican food on the central coast. It's worth the drive down to Santa Maria. They serve authentic Jalisco cuisine, which means lots of great Mexican seafood and spicy homemade smoky salsa, served with fresh chips. We usually buy some of it to take home. I think it's an old gas station-turned restaurant, which means is small and no frills, but the food is fresh and delicious. Parking lot is small and can fill up quickly as does the restaurant. So prepare for a wait or just grab an early/late lunch. :) You can get unusual things like nopales (cactus leaves), pulpo (octopus), and whole fried fish, things not found in your everyday texmex restaurant. The prices are very reasonable and the service is good. They serve breakfast too but haven't tried it... yet. read more

Before we get to talking about this place, a quick visiting tip. The parking lot can get a bit full and the lot needs to be driven through carefully as the asphalt is well loved around this area because the restaurant is so good. The coctel campechan is so good here. One of the many things that have kept my fiancé and I coming back again and again. A couple more must-eats here are the "mojarra frita" the "langostinos" and chile relleno combo plates. Keep in mind this place is a bit of a hole in the wall, so it can get a bit dirty, and it can get busy so staff may seem a bit inattentive. But they have over 100 options and you will wish there was a way to try everything. This is what true Mexican food is. It is so much more that tacos and burritos ( though they do that too) . This restaurant truly serves the culture of Jalisco in a plate. Overall, the delicious food far outweighs anything else. And as a person who goes to places and rates based on how awesome the food is, I say if you are in Santa Maria this place is a must try. I could go on forever and not do this place's food justice.
