A friend recommended this place and raved about it. So when I happened to be in the area one Saturday afternoon, I decided to give it a try. Came Saturday afternoon around 3pm. The place was pretty busy and we didn't have a reservation but was able to get seated right away thankfully. Happy till 5pm Saturdays so my two friends and I shared a bottle of red wine, there's also entire bottles of liquor on the happy hour menu.... The three of us shared one Samsa with meat (best thing I ate there), kutabi with greens, one order of non, and the mixed Kebab Platter. It was plenty of food for the three of us. I keep vacillating between giving three and four stars to Nargis Cafe. One of my former roommates recommended it saying the he visited pretty much every time he was in the area. So last weekend, when we were looking for a place for a few of us to brunch, we elected this place. I'll start with the good (great?). I had no idea this place was Uzbek inspired but because of it, I'll be looking for other Uzbek restaurants. We sampled several of the skewer/kebabs and they were amazing! The table unanimously agreed that the salmon was the absolute best though none were bad per se. We had a beet salad and kumquat punch to wash things down. I think this may have been the first time I had kumquat punch and it had with pear slices which my roomy was really digging. (Lot's of firsts here, I know). They also had pressed hen which looks like they've perfected the method of cooking/grilling it in that manner. All very good and cool. Now, we were seated outside which made sense for the Covid times. Despite the temperature (~90°F), I felt comfortable in the shade under their awnings. They had a fan going which was properly angled such that I wasn't concerned about respiratory droplets being inadvertently pushed onto people. However, our waiter didn't cover his mouth and nose with his mask (he did have one). I know it was a really warm day but this was unacceptable to me. I would suggest that he could take it off entering the establishment but making sure that it was on properly as he approached our table. This is why I considered detracting merits from my rating. My party had masks on when he came by so I wasn't too worried but I have to mention it for the sake of others. Bottom line: Go! The food is slammin'. Just be diligent with your mask. Also note that parking in the area may take several minutes so arrive to your date ~15minutes early. read more

We made a reservation for 10 people and gave a $200 credit card deposit to guarantee a table is held for us. Unfortunately, one of the couples came down with Covid and we were all exposed since we saw them 2 days prior. I called the restaurant before 24 hrs to our reservation telling them our situation. The management of the restaurant refused to credit my credit card acct and offered us "store credit ". This was unacceptable to me, since most of us live 2 hrs away in another state. By doing the right thing and not coming in to spread the virus, we are being punished. I don't care if their food is good. This is to advise anyone not to give them credit card for deposit, because if GD forbid something happens, they will keep telling you their policies which are not listed on their web under " refunds and cancellations " They also told me that they record all their phone conversations, which is illegal, unless you are warned beforehand. This is a typical " Russian/Brighton" business practices, which makes many not to want to go there. I just want people to be aware who they are dealing with. In continuation, the owner of the restaurant just called me to threaten me for leaving this review. He told me that I was a liar and that he doesn't have to give me my money back as per their policy. My friend ordered plov for me on December 29. And unfortunately, I found a hair in there. I just brought it up to the server when I was there today. But suddenly owner came over to figure it out. She denied the incident and reacted unprofessionally and disrespectful to the remark. Because according to her this restaurant is thoroughly inspected. That the hair I found doesn't prove it!!! I didn't ask for anything only an apology for those. But she didn't do that either, because in her opinion I was cheating her by my appearance. Owner showed me that she didn't care about the customer!!! To such an owner of the institution I will never go again! And I advise others to do the same! If I had known beforehand what kind of owner was there, I wouldn't have come before at all! I don't recommend this restaurant to anybody else! read more

The interior is very nice! A good place to go as a group. We went on a random weekday afternoon and service was OK at best-staff was not accessible. An example of what I mean, we order soups which came out quick, but no spoons for quite a while because we weren't able to get anyone's attention...we ordered the pumpkin dumplings (my aunt is vegetarian)...we were brought the beef dumplings, and everyone took one and when we cut into it realized it was meat-I still ate mine but the rest of the table didn't eat beef so we flagged down someone (who wasn't our server) and explained we wanted the vegetarian option...he cleared the plates and shortly after our vegetarian appetizer followed. When we got the bill, we were charged for both dumplings. When I finally got a chance to speak to our server we explained what happened...he had to call another person (I assume manager for the shift) and the manager made it seem like we had to justify why we feel we shouldn't have to pay for the meat dumplings? I told him we didn't know what they were until after we cut into them and he said well you still ate one and I said yes but for an entire order of 5 only 1 was eaten, and not to mention the meat dumplings which were beef-and eating beef is against the religious beliefs of the ppl at my table. He still seemed adamant not to remove it from the bill, and I then said how ridiculous it was, and how even when we placed our order for entrees we emphasized not having beef in the platters. So it was kind of frustrating that he just was not getting it. I can usually justify not being able to grab hold of someone's attention if a restaurant is busy-but I think there were a total of 4 tables being served. read more

Just got back from Nargiz...I honestly don't know what happened to this place!!! Absolute terrible service..we were waiting for our food to arrive forever...we also ordered a large teapot and for four people one teabag simply isn't enough for a large teapot...we asked the waiter for one more teabag and it took another 25 minutes to receive that! The requested dessert menus did not arrive...I asked for food to be packaged and will take it to go...the waiter ended up throwing it out!!! Quaint restaurant in Brooklyn. I've never really had uzebek food before so this was definitely a treat. The decor was nice, there was indoor and outdoor seating available. It was actually really busy when we went (8pm on a Saturday night, but that's to be expected). We got seats for two quite quickly and started looking at the menu. We ordered the meat Samsa, uzebek plov, beef, chicken and chicken wings kebab. The samsa came out quickly. The pastry part was soft yet crunchy, the beef with onion had a unique flavor to it. The plov was just fantastic. It's rice with chickpea, lamb, carrots and spices. Very flavorful and spiced in a way that makes you want more. The lamb meat was extremely tender and not gamy at all. Definitely one of the highlights the meal. We just kept at it bite after bite. Even the person I'm with who doesn't eat rice are a lot of it. The kebabs to me were somewhat the real winners. The beef was the best out of them. Juicy and tender with excellent flavor. Made me want more and more. I almost ordered another one. The chicken was also extremely juicy and not dry and over cooked. Not as flavorful as the beef, but still a delight. The chicken wings were somewhat a let down. Didn't have much flavor or texture. I actually regretted ordering this. Very busy on a Saturday evening (20-30min wait for 2ppl w/o reservation). We were lucky to get one of the few tables outside. The appetizers came out quickly but our mixed meat platter took quite a while (more than half hour from when we were served the apps). -non: got from the many pictures. Good bread but nothing special. Would not purchase. -samsa: pretty good but lamb pieces had pieces of cartilage which turned me off -cheburek: okay, a little too oily for me. Your typical fried patty that spans cultures. -mixed meat platter: enough for two people with good appetites. A good deal. Would recommend. Of note, there is absolutely no option to buy wine and spirits by the glass, only by the bottle. This was very disappointing as I would have really enjoyed a glass of wine with dinner but the one other person I came with was driving and it would have been near impossible for me to have a whole bottle of wine alone. This is the first time I am trying Uzbek food. Everything I had from here was good. Lulya Kabab was my absolute favorite. It was kabab made out of ground meat. They took a while to cook it. But it was very flavorful, and nicely cooked. Lamb plov was also very good. Lamb was tender. Steamed lamb manti was also good. Fruit Compote was slightly less sweet. But with the food, it went down nicely. Waiters are very efficient here. The moment you finish something, they will take the plate out of the table. Food was also served promptly. Seems like they don't serve water. With check they give chewing gum, which is nice. This restaurant is located at a walkable distance from Coney Island beach. What a disaster. The kitchen is an absolute mess. They brought out half the appetizers, bread took 45 minutes to come out. Then another 30 mins for some more salads. They brought out completely raw chicken. The manager came out to argue that the chef said it's cooked. Are you out of your mind. The meat is completely raw inside. The restaurant has two floors with a modern interior, clean design, and overall pleasing to the eye. We were celebrating my mothers in law Birthday on Sunday and came here at 4 pm. We were greeted by the staff and seated at a corner table on the first floor for privacy. The first floor was busy. We scanned QR codes and faced problem #1; some dishes had no description, and we had no idea what those dishes consisted of. The second problem was when we started ordering, they ran out of a lot of soft drinks /chicken heart/chicken liver, and some other things; remember that this is the second restaurant, and it was in the middle of Sunday. Otherwise, the staff was friendly and whatever we had was tasty, but lamb ribs lacked meat, which was quite disappointing. Saw this Turkish/Uzbek place on the food network a few years ago. There's a lot of Turkish restaurants in the area. I found this to be on par with most of them. It's very popular and get very crowded after 7 I'm not a kabob person and prefer lots of entrees Bread is not included with anything. For a few dollars the Turkish round bread is served hot and it's delicious. Babaganush was good. Feta cheese cigars (3 per order but they are big) was my favorite. Pan fried liver cubes with caramelized onions was also very good. Sautéed meat dumplings were ok. There was something in the spices used that I didn't love. I was expecting pierogi size things but they were small round balls. Happy they had decaf coffee. Pleasant looking place. Excellent service. read more

I didn't start my day thinking I would be having dinner in Brooklyn, much less at an Uzbek restaurant. However, I am glad that is how it ended up. Nargis Cafe is absolutely fantastic! Definitely worth a trip, even from Westchester! No wonder the place was packed. As in standard CoVid19 decorum we sat under a tent outside. The seating was appropriately spaced and wait staff was masked! We started with the Mixed Spread platter! Only one of the offerings was bland. Otherwise the 7 spreads were fantastic! Best Babaganoug and Humus I have ever had, and the julienned carrots were out of this world. Oddly there was Kimchi on the platter. As a connoisseur of this pungent Korean mainstay, I have to say it was tops! My dinner partner had Lagman, a spicy and yummy soup made with lamb, hand pulled noodles, cabbage and Central Asian vegetables and spices. Delightful! I tasted with my own spoon! We both then had kabobs. She had chicken and Ground Beef Lulya and I had Lamb and Lamb Ribs. I am not a fan of cumin. So the Lulya was just ok for me. However, the other three were spectacular! Well seasoned and perfectly cooked!! Vinegar marinated sliced fresh onions were a perfect garnish! We also had pan fried potato's with mushrooms that were great. Uzbek bread came with the dinner. Excellent! We were so full, we didn't have dessert! Portions were large and service was excellent!! Dinner was so good I got two Veal Liver Kabobs to go for the next nights dinner. I snuck one before I stashed it in my fridge. Yummy! Also, prices were extremely reasonable and they serve beer, mixed drinks and some bottled Uzbek sodas! Cozy, cute, and a nice play to take anyone that hasn't had Uzbeki food before :) A good plov is a sign of a good Uzbeki restaurant. The meat was really tender and properly cooked, and everything was just a pleasant bite. The seasoning was a bit milder than I'd have usually liked, but would be more than happy to get the same thing again :3 The achichuk salad was perfectly dressed and seasoned! Would have preferred a few more chilies but otherwise it was a nice opener to the meal hehe The only thing I'd pass on are the chuchvara. Came here on an early Sunday night and this place was packed. They don't take reservation so if you come with a group then come early. Their food was definitely authentic and delicious . We ordered a bunch of kabobs with salad and warm appetizers on the side and everything was perfect. Their complimentary bread (thank you for the free bread) was also fantastic. Best of all, it was huge and pipping hot. YUM! As for their kabob, it was certainly the highlight of the evening. We all shared a bunch of skewers and it was absolutely satisfying. Not only were their chicken and lamb kabobs grilled to perfection but it was also nicely moist, tender and seasoned just right. If you have not experience what delicious Uzbek cuisine is all about, then this place is one that everyone should consider trying. I had such a wonderfully satisfying meal at Nargis Café! We were a group of 5 on a Sunday early evening. We ordered a variety of items to share family-style, and even though I thought we may have ordered too much, we managed to finish it ALLl! When the food is this great, it's hard to leave any food uneaten! lol Service was friendly and fantastic!. The pacing of food service was great - We got to enjoy all the items leisurely without fear that the food would get cold. The only negative thing about Nargis Café is that they do NOT take reservations.
