I love to try new food. Since I am in New York, I always make sure I try food from around the world. Its a part of who I am. I came here because it is close to my home and my friend told me its a great place to try some good uzbek food. Why not right? We got there at 8 30 and the place is packed. By 9 10, I was so hungry and I kept on looking at the general manager to get me seated. Finally, he managed to find me a table. If you go as a large group you are lucky because their tables are for big familes. and they dont have two people tables. I like this because it gave me more room to keep my food. I ordered Yoghurt drink ( similar to lassi for indians) meat salad- tashkent greensaland with eggs- navruz Plov Manti Samsa Lamb kababs What can I say folks- Hands down, one of the best meals I ever had. I loved it so much and I will come back again. I was the only Indian girl in the house that night and thats ok because I love loud russian men n women anyways. My only problem for the night was the waitress forgot to pack my plov. I was sad because we barely ate any of our food since we ordered a lot. I got home and realized plov was missing so I called them. The general manager picked up.His name is Mr Arkady ( I am not sure). He was so quick to tell me that he now owes me a plov. Other than the lamb and chicken kebabs, which were packed with flavor and extremely tender when eaten hot, the cucumber, scallion and radish salad was a winner too, esp with the fresh dill on top. The wait to be seated was 15 minutes sharp . We ate well. The food was phenomenal . For appetizers we ordered 2 chebureki , an avocado salad which had radishes , lettuce , onion , cucumbers and tomato . Shurpa soup , a Kim chee spicy Asian cabbage salad , 1/2 of a lepyoshka ( Russian bread ) . 2 glasses of Pinot Grigio and 2 shots rem moniet , and green tea . As an Entree We ordered 6 skewers 2 lamb ribs , which had 10 mini ribs on each skewer , a chicken kebab , a lyula kebab a liver kebab and a lamb kebab . Uzbek plov is absolutely delicious. The lab just melts in you mouth. The rice is definitely cooked in some air of of broth because I couldn't stop eating it. Also got the lagman and fried eggplant to share with friends! The lagman is like fancy expensive ramen but still delicious. If you order the fried eggplant, definitely also get bread to dip it in! This is a small restaurant my friend introduced me too. It is considered Asian food because it comes from the country of Uzbekistan which is outside of Russia, in the Asian continent. Anyway, food is authentic, fresh and simple. Prices are super affordable. there is nothing fancy about this cafe. they play Russian music videos while you eat, (which can be entertaining all on its own!) and service is friendly, even though the English isn't good. Great Food cooked to perfection, and you know it's fresh with the high turn around rate. The only negative is the seating. Even with the renovation/expansion, they still try and fit as many people as possible. This makes it difficult for parties and waiters to go by the tables. And last thing you want is someone's a$$ in your plate. Better seating arrangements are a must! Forget about reservations, they do not exist. Good food, little over priced I think. First time I had the oxtail there I loved it, second time it wasn't as great. Well I love their samsa, thats one reason I go there. Good seating area. It was my first time eating at this particular restaurant but I am no stranger to Russian/Uzbek/Central Asian food. I usually go to the Bukharian Jewish Uzbek restaurants in Queens, but since it was a Jewish holiday and most of the Bukharian restaurants are Kosher, they were closed. I was craving some real Uzbek food since it's the best cuisine on the planet (my opinion). Everything about this place is cool. A plus if you speak Russian (which I do since I'm half Bukharian Jew half Belarussian Jew. The waitress was very nice. The food was excellent! Try the pelmeni soup! It's beef/lamb mixed ravioli in a delicious broth and don't forget the kebabs! From chicken to beef to the lamb and mixed meat called "Lyulya" it's a dream! Food heaven to the max! I don't care for the pork though, since in Uzbek and Bukharian cuisine its taboo plus for me as well. It's prob on the menu. Try if you want. But the best thing is the lamb PLOV. The greatest dish on the planet. I ate outside with a friend who goes to school in the city, he was quite impressed since he never gets out of morningside heights. I had to show him the cool ethnic neighborhoods of Brooklyn like Brighton Beach! Next time I come to brooklyn I'm def gonna eat at Nargis Cafe! So good! and UZBEK!!! I love this restaurant. Their avocado salad can be had as a super heathy meal. Its a hardy portion that is meant to be shared. They do not cheap out on the avocado and the avocado is always ripe. Next, I get the pumpkin Manti. I don't like anything pumpkin but these are delicious. My go to is the Plov. its delicious and I usually have enough leftovers for another meal. The weight staff is always great and attentive. One of my favorite things is the European music videos playing in the background. The only thing that disappoints is that they never have this grilled cherry pepper, balsamic, and goat cheese appetizer that is advertised. I had it a couple of times and it is phenomenal. Usual Russian food for a fair price. Their feta salad and garlic fries are the best. The decor is very okay. I give them five stars for their overall staff effort, taste of the food and just for being the only reliable source of Russian food. If you want to take your none Russian speaking friends somewhere to impress them with your drinking capabilities as a soviet then this is the place. I'm originally from Uzbekistan and now live in LA. I haven't tried other Uzbek restaurants in NY, but Nargis Cafe exceeded my expectations! I could vouch that the food is very close tasting to what it should taste like in authentic restaurants. Shurpa was very tasty and Kabobs had that taste that no other Kabobs have. I was in this restaurant so many times and even my friends from Manhattan asked me: hey please take us again to this place. And so many times I recommended this place. So did I today and it was a fiasco. I always ordered Avocado salad and this time it was crazy amount of lettuce inside and it gave such a bitter flavour to a salad... And where was avocado?? No cilantro? Never happened before. Manty were stuffed with onion, and half of teaspoon of meat. What happened with this place? Craved for authentic Russian food, we trekked all the way from Jew Jersey to Coney Island via public transportations. It was a summer day and after 2 hours we finally reached our destination, a well packed local restaurant in a Russian neighborhood. It's full at 3ish Saturday afternoon and we were lucky enough to get a tiny little table outside by the street. I can reach the plates on my next table and I saw the bill and tips they paid. Out waitress went out of her way everyone had a chance to try everything on the table by individually serving every dish to every member of our party. She even promised my 6 year old a surprise if she finished her food and followed through by giving her a rooster shaped Russian lollipop. This is definitely my favorite Mediterranean restaurant in the area. With a lot of competition around, they easily beat out the rest. The service and food is always consistent! Waiters are attentive and professional. The kebabs are outstanding!! I have tried every kebab they offer (chicken, beef, lamb etc) and they are all so flavorful and juicy, you can't go wrong. I have been here many times and everything I have tried from the salads (nargis salad is my fav), to the babaganoush & hummus served with fresh warm bread, all the different kebabs, the truffle fries, and desserts- everything is always so so good!
