I discovered this ice cream place when looking for an ice cream cake for a coworker's birthday and I am so glad I did! The cakes have chocolate and vanilla as well as strawberry, which was a pleasant change, and they offer either nuts or crunchies filling. I also noticed they had a wide selection of ice cream and gelato in unusual flavors, so I purchased two containers to try (pineapple and banana cream pie). Both flavors were absolutely delicious! Wow. We made another hot dog trek today...this time to a place called Tommy's in Carteret and like the last time we had a major hot dog adventure we ended up getting ice cream afterwards. Oh Nasto's you treated us so right the last time we stepped through your door-would you please, please treat us to your wonderful sweetness again?? We had high expectations again since last time the ice cream was awesome and the young lady behind he counter was both super helpful and super hot. This time our super hot server wasn't there, but the two women behind the counter were very nice and very helpful (and still both pretty good looking!)...I believe one was an owner. As for the ice cream, I had a double scoop (no wonder I can't lose weight) with cookies and cream and Holy Cannoli. Now cookies and cream you can get anywhere, right? No way-this was phenomenal...super creamy, chunks of cookies, and just perfection in a cup. The Holy Cannoli ice cream-Holy crap. No fake flavoring in here...just ice cream with smashed up cannoli-and they were NOT stingy with the smashed up cannoli. Every spoonful included pieces of shell and cannoli filling. O.M.G. I had had a couple of ice cream cakes from here, but never made it to the store itself until this afternoon. It seemed as of late that everyone around me kept talking about this place. Then as I was re-watching the Soprano's, the flashback scene where Tony's dad brought him some Nasto's as a kid did me in. Fughetaboutit. This visit was long overdue so I convinced a co-worker to go here with me. Needless to say, it didn't take much convincing. I went with the medium bowl (more than enough) for under $5. 1/2 black raspberry, 1/2 rocky road. I wasn't too worried about the flavors mixing considering I knew this ice cream didn't stand a chance of lasting 10 minutes before I wallowed it all up. My co-worker went with the mint chocolate chip and gave it 5 stars. Of course I had to get not one, but two half gallons to go (one mudslide and one 1/2 vanilla, 1/2 chocolate). They were charging $8 for 1 or $15 for 2 so obviously saving the whole dollar was a no-brainer, or at least a cheap justification for my inevitable diagnosis of diabetes. Then, a chocolate chip cookie stared at me as I was about to leave so of course I had to get one of those. 80 cents, and yes, I was nice enough to share, but I wish I hadn't. The server needed an attitude adjustment, but other than that, I love the atmosphere, and the ice cream itself, of course. Parking can be tricky. $10 minimum on credit cards. read more

I finally was able to checkout Nasto's last week for the first time. They have a nice selection of ice cream with some pretty interesting flavors. I ended up getting a tray of tiramisu, 2 half gallons of ice cream (Graham Slam & Holy Cannoli), an ice cream cake, and a box of the fresh fruit sorbets (orange). Most everything was delicious and everyone could really tell that the quality of the ice cream and desserts was higher than your average store. The Graham Slam ice cream was probably my favorite overall. I could probably do without the orange sorbet in the fruit next time as the sorbet itself was quite bitter...probably from the rind. read more

I never went here before but I always had their ice cream since my family loves the "fresh cantaloupe" flavor. So today I finally decided to go here. It's a corner store so it's not hard to find. Walking in, the staff was very friendly and helpful. I got the coconut and holly cannoli flavored ice cream. I also got the lava cake. It's not really your usual lava cake where you take a bite and chocolate is just oozing out. Instead when you microwave it for 30 seconds or more it will ooze out from the top rather it being in the middle. Their lava cake was good though it was moist and just the right amount of sweetness. Never been to this ice cream shop before, but my friends left raving after visiting last week. I'm very picky with ice cream and tend to stay loyal to a good tasting cone. So when I tried Nasto's Ice cream I have to say the taste was surprisingly good. I could see myself coming by to grab the occassional scoop, or a tub from the freezers. This ice cream was so spectacular, I had to finish the cup I just ate and grab my phone to write this review! This was my first time, and my entire experience door to scraped clean cup was noteworthy. The staff is terriffic, the manager on duty was extremely friendly. She hand packed a small (haha) cup for me of two flavors, classic chocolate and vanilla peanut butter. It was 95 degrees out today and as another reviewer noted, the high fat content certainly makes for a quick melt on my dash to the car to savor it. And savor it I did. First thing you notice is how smooth and creamy this ice cream is, I know that sounds like my name is captain obvious, like I head one person here also say, "its cold and creamy"; perhaps the effect of this product is that it takes you back to childhood (verbally and mentally) when ice cream was a new discovery. Its THAT good. The mouth-feel is incredible, creaminess like the entire interior of your mouth was transformed to velvet on silk. The chocolate was a rich, not too sweet confection with a delicate yet commanding cocoa flavor that reminded me of high quality Belgian chocolate. The vanilla in the peanut butter vanilla was refined, elegant, and the surrounding peanut butter enveloping, deeply nutty, not overly sugary or syrupy or even just plain old peanut butter- this is a peanut butter swirl created by angels! The combination of these two flavors was exceptional. So this is what clouds would taste like in Willy Wonkas' chocolate room... I am almost tempted to go back in and get another, but I'm on a diet and this was just a treat on a very hot and stressful day; I needed comfort and cooling, and Nastos delivered on my expectations and exceeded them. All I gotta say is, if you need a birthday cake, and you're tired of the same old Carvel cake, then you need to double park, and get a cake from Nasto's! My boss was telling me to come here to get a birthday cake for my mother because they have a Neapolitan ice cream cake with pistachios in the middle. Um, really? Yes, I did double park since parking around here on a normal day is pretty much a joke, so I ran inside hoping for the best. I headed straight into the back freezers to gawk at the endless possibilities of selections. Make sure to ask any of the girls behind the counter what the flavors are before making a selection. She wrote on the cake beautifully for me, and while I waited, I of course when nose first into the other freezers to see what I should bring back to work with me. Every town needs a homemade ice-cream spot. It's unfortunate that Nasto's is so far from my apartment because their ice cream is fantastic. They have a big selection of ice creams, Italian ices, cakes, and pastries. I didn't get to try any of the cakes or cannolis yet but they looked very good. They have tubs of ice cream in their freezer section to take home (very affordable too) as well as their pastries. If you live in Newark, it's worth the trek. The staff will let you try the flavors too. My only gripe is that there is no clear line. It gets crowded especially during the summer and everyone just stands in a massive circle with indication of who is next but the crowds come in waves so the lines move pretty quick. read more

Hands down, best ice cream I have had. I am not even an ice cream person and I LOVE everything I have had at Nasto's. First of all, the quality is superb and the prices are soooooooo good. Seriously, I think a scoop is under $2, you get a LOT (I love sweets and I often put part of mine in the freezer for later), and you can tell it is home made and made with real cream and high quality stuff. I've tried several flavors and everything was amazing. The vanilla peanut butter has real peanut butter in it and is amazing. The cappuccino has chocolate chips and has this beautiful coffee finish. The sweet corn was surprisingly really good. The cookies and cream is the best cookies and cream I've had anywhere. They will give you tons of samples and recommend flavors and help you out. It is amazing. Also, their desserts are awesome. The tortufos (basically ice cream balls filled with something, dipped in chocolate) are AWESOME (I liked the peanut butter one the most), the cannolis are great, and the tiramisu looks good but I haven't had it. Amazing prices, high quality and home made, and helpful employees? This place is awesome. Certain employees tend to give bigger scoops and let you get 2 flavors even on the smallest size but all of them are pretty nice and helpful. LOVE THIS PLACE. I would drive 20-30 minutes to get here. Fortunately, I live less than 5 minutes away. Also, they close at 7 or 7:30. It's really early but just get a take home pint or quart and enjoy after dinner at home! And they accept credit cards now (minimum of $10 which is just an excuse to buy more!) which makes things even more convenient. Street parking is easy to find too. read more
