On a mission to try out all the different types of pasteis de nata in Portugal, I decided to stop by this shop. I love the shops that only specialize in making the Portuguese egg tarts since they seemed to taste best when that's the only thing they make. This spot was unique in that they served not only the regular egg tart, but they also had a chocolate filled one and an apple filled one. I tried all three but still preferred the original one the best. If you're lucky, you'll get a warm batch so some of them were warm while others had already cooled. The apple filled one was still warm so it was gooey and almost like an apple pie. It wasn't too sweet and very unique. The chocolate one was my least favorite. It was basically like a hazelnut chocolate filling and too sweet for my taste. The regular egg tart wasn't the best that I've had in Portugal but I enjoyed the lighter custard filling in contrast to the other two. The crust on all their egg tarts were flakey but not too crispy, a bit soft. I'd stop by if you're looking for a different twist on the traditional pasteis de nata.

Espresso and pastel de nata - crispy, flaky, and delicious!

Crispy, flaky, delicious pastel de nata. They also have different variations but I did not try those this time - I'll be back!

I was heading somewhere else to get a morning pastel de nata, that wasn't open. This place looked lovely. Beautiful shop front colours and internal displays. Ordered two pastel de nata that were nice but the coffee was shockingly bad. A flat white that was way to hot and not executed well. Disappointed, as a great coffee is essential to start my morning. Service was lack lustre too. With so many other places to choose from, I won't go back.

5 out of 5!!! My favorite pastel de nata in all of Portugal!!! We have tried so many places while visiting Portugal (sometimes 2 different shops a day) and I think this is the BEST!! Perfect crispy fluffy crust and creamy nata that isn't too sweet. The sweetness level is perfect for me. It's slightly less sweeter then all the other famous shops. My number one!!!

This means I can now say who made them best, and more importantly, why. The interesting thing is, I didn't think the pastel de nata here were particularly great, on any dimension - fairly flimsy, doughy crust, with a pudding-like, drippy filling that was too sweet and not quite eggy enough. Don't get me wrong, I'd still eat them any time someone offered, they were still tasty, you just have a ton of options nearby, some of them notably better than the ones here. I also tried one of their fancy-looking cookies, which definitely looked fancier than it tasted. Was just a cookie. Dessert-wise I was unimpressed. They were also always fairly busy, which made ordering feel a bit rushed. So why am I still giving this bakery 5 stars, and why did I come back here a couple more times, including to get food to-go the morning we left, to get food to take on the plane with us? For exactly one reason, and it's a weird one: oddly enough, the samosas here are the best samosas I've ever had, and by a wide margin. You'd think the best samosas ever would come from an Indian restaurant or bakery, but nope, they're here. The other small savory food items we tried were also pretty good, but the samosas are the juiciest, meatiest, most perfectly bursting with spices samosas I've had. Who knew? They also had pretty solid espresso and pretty solid free-squeezed orange juice, but those aren't hard to find in Portugal (I miss seeing inexpensive fresh squeezed OJ all over the city... especially *truly* fresh squeezed, to order, from whole oranges. Portuguese OJ definitely was the best. Though obviously not *better* than other places you can get the same thing around - probably indeed the same oranges. Definitely better than anywhere you can get fresh OJ for a few bucks in the US, though, if you can find such a place. :p)

Despite the crowd, the service moved surprisingly fast and the whole experience felt well organized. You pay based on cone size rather than by the scoop, which means you can load up on flavors without the guilt of counting portions. I went with pistachio, mango and blueberry cheesecake, and the combination worked beautifully. What really sets Amorino apart is the presentation, the staff shape the gelato into a stunning flower design that almost feels too pretty to eat. I also grabbed a Nutella crepe which was every bit as good as it sounds. Beyond the gelato there are plenty of options to explore including their famous macarons, so it is worth taking a moment to browse before you order. If you are walking through the Baixa area, this is an easy and very rewarding detour.

I frequent the one in the ROD so it was not a shock when I dragged my friends in. It's the exact playbook as the one in Houston. You get in line, place your order and then choose your flavours. I went with my good ole faithful waffle with two scoops (hazelnut chocolate and salted caramel) of gelato and topped it off with hazelnut drizzle. The total was about $6.40 which is way cheaper than it is in the states. It was just as delicious and very much worth it. It's easy to find in you're in the Baixa area of Lisboa. Just follow the path.

The custard strikes a great balance -- rich and eggy but not overly sweet. The pastry shell is where these really shine: thin layers of laminated dough baked until they're deeply golden and crisp. The result is that perfect textural contrast: crackly pastry on the outside and silky custard inside. Like most Portuguese pastry shops, the setup is straightforward. You order at the counter, the service is quick, and the focus is on getting the tarts to you while they're still warm from the oven. Cinnamon and powdered sugar are available to sprinkle on top, which adds a nice extra layer of flavour. Lisbon has many places competing for the title of best pastel de nata, but Fábrica da Nata holds its own. The quality is consistent, the tarts are fresh, and it's an easy stop whether you're looking for a quick snack or a traditional Portuguese pastry with coffee.

Service was quick and both packed together in a paper sack. They were nice and warm. We had to remove them to add our cinnamon and powdered sugar in the store so that was one of the drawbacks of ordering to go. Luckily our hotel was just minutes away and the natas were still warm when we got back. Overall our mouths enjoyed the flaky, crunchy crust and creamy texture of the egg tart but it seemed bit too soft this time. Still in our top 3 places to grab pasteis de nata in Portugal.
