After a cold trip to the aquarium, we decided to stop by and grab a late lunch. A short line and a few standing and sitting tables on the side. We ordered 4x original hot dogs, 2x new englands, 1x lobster bisque, and fries. We had the sautéed onions and sauerkraut on the side and we were given an ample amount! The hot dogs are big, and satisfied our appetites but weren't really anything special. The soups were such large portions for $10. I had the lobster bisque, and it was decent - buttery and viscousy. The hot dogs and the bisque were definitely filling. It was a trip down memory lane, used to visit another Nathan's more as a child but haven't done so in many years. How does one not visit Nathan's when in Brooklyn? Campy, fun and one of the last vestiges of the original Coney Island carnival businesses, its well worth the visit just from that perspective. You'll stand in a line to order, and again to wait for that food, you'll eat with your hands crowded against other people...and you'll love it. We went to Coney Island today, very excited to eat at Nathan's hotdogs. The food was fantastic, after we finally got it. The order peocess seemed rushed. It seemed obvious the cashier didn't eat there. We got our food piecemealed, they forgot our water and ranch. Asking for it was like asking for gold. The first manager just walked off, after asking me three times what I wanted. Ranch is not hard. Diana, the other supervisor said her name was terry (who actually knows). Being honest they were both just rude. Despite the amazing food, I would never return. In all my trips to tourist locations, I don't think anyone has been that rude. Now, I knew it was a tourist spot and I was prepared for the high prices, so I didn't get that much sticker shock to see the ~8 chili cheese dog. It's definitely a high price, but the food was actually good! Order was on the self serve kiosk. It was served on a small napkin/foldable paper container. The dog was lightly grilled and had a nice charred outside. It is an all beef has a classic taste but these dogs are firmer with a "bite." The cheese isn't too sticky think it overpowering, and it wasn't too salty either. It had a good complement to the dog. The chili is actually great, the size of the chili is pretty good and it didn't have any strange flavors. It was a classic chili dog. Bun is average Overall it's better than expected. Nathan's has become an institution in Coney Island, so you can't make a visit without getting a hot dog here. It's 100% overpriced and touristy, but you can't help but still line up with everyone else. There are two lines: hot dog on your right, burgers and seafood on your left. We opted for the classic and got into the right line to order. I had the Jalapeño Bacon Cheese Dog ($7.99) and Loaded Onion Rings ($7.99). They give you lots of jalapeños, but they're raw so didn't add much flavor. The hot dog was just a basic hot dog really. I did enjoy the onion rings as they gave a good amount. Both items had me really full though, so it was a good meal. The boyfriend got 2 Plain Hot Dogs for $5.99 each, which is insanely overpriced when you think about how Costco's hot dog is only $1.50 with a drink. When we were there in January, half of the restaurant was closed due to not many people visiting Coney Island. Nathan's Famous in Coney Island was way better than I thought it would be, and much better than any Nathan's I've had outside of Coney Island. The Nathan's at the New York, New York hotel in Las Vegas, NV DOES NOT compare. My daughter and I shared a hot dog with raw onions and sauerkraut, and we added mustard and ketchup. We also got chili fries with crinkle-cut fries. Everything was really good. The chili cheese on the fries had lots of flavor. It was so good that my daughter, who usually doesn't like hot dogs or fries, actually ate both and liked them! We also had orangeade, which was really refreshing and had just the right amount of ice and soda. A little tip: the kiosk line wasn't really faster. There were only two screens, and the reflections on the screen made it hard to see. The ordering system was a bit confusing, and it seemed like everyone, including us, was learning how to use it. I noticed people in the regular line ordered ahead of us and got their food almost right away. The service was kind of mixed. Some people who ordered after us got their food first, while others who ordered before us had to wait about 10-15 minutes longer. Nathan's is right on the boardwalk, so there are no tables or seats. I've been wanting to try this place forever, especially after coming to the Hot Dog Eating Contest which is always extremely packed. I've never tried a Nathan's before, not even the ones on the street carts so I am curious if there would be a big difference between that and the in-store ones. I ordered their classic Hot Dog and I'm not going to lie, it kind of tastes like a Costco Hot Dog. The bun was very atypical and the hot dog itself was too. I did appreciate the onions and sauerkraut though because they balanced out the flavors of the hot dog and there was a huge heaping of each of these toppings. After this hot dog, I have to give it up for Joey Chestnut and all the other competitors. I felt so full eating one, I can't imagine what it's like to eat 50+ of these within 10 minutes. Nathan's is a staple and part of the fabric of the boardwalk at Coney Island. It's a big "stand" and the lines can get long here usually on nice days on the weekends. There's two lines, one for the counter and one for the kiosks. Not sure which line was faster but both were pretty long. We chose the counter line and it probably took 15 mins or so to get our order in. The days of just hot dogs are long gone. I went with the original order of hot dogs and crinkle fries but the menu is pretty good as far as variety. Clams, burgers chicken sandwiches, chili dogs, cheese dogs and much more. Fries too, there were bacon, cheese, loaded and more. I might have to try something else next time! Once we put the order in, the food came out pretty quickly and you just wait off to the side for your name to be called. There was also an Auntie Annie's that was part of the stand as well, so you could also order their menu as well.
