Once again, National Appliance came to our rescue. Our roof blew off in January, requiring months of roof repair and floor replacement. Charlie and the National Appliance team skillfully disconnected our kitchen appliances for their month long move to the garage (!), and then reinstalled them once the floors were fully in place. Make sure you understand a service call. They quote over the phone $230 to tell me what I needed. I just thought it was going to be a simple light switch but I ended up waiting 10 days to hear that I needed a complete panel for my microwave. The serviceman did not want the service fee on the spot and he was at my house for less than 20 minutes. So basically I pay $230 for a 20 minute update on my microwave and understanding of what needed to be done. The company explained they have overhead to pay for that's why service call is so high. I think this is poor business practices. Its a rip off to the consumer and negative attitude to the customer. read more

We hired National Appliance to fix our microwave. They quoted $800. A tech came out, examined the microwave, and returned later with the part necessary to fix it. Turns out, this was the incorrect part. He left without cleaning up. He came out again to install the part. My wife got on the phone with Bob and he surprised her with a new cost: $1300. My wife told him she expected $800. He responded "did you think labor was free?" In my view this is an unprofessional way to speak to a customer. They settled at $1,100. I called Bob back a few hours later to convey out disappointment with our experience and that the cost should be $800 given that was the amount quoted. He rudely responded "that's not going to happen" and then hung up. I will not be working with National Appliance again. read more

I told them over the phone that the oven was baking unevenly, and one side of the door appeared to be looser than the other. The fellow who showed up had zero knowledge! He had no diagnostic tools with him! Even I know that you need an oven thermometer to see which parts of the oven vary in temperature. I called several local appliance repair companies that said it would take over a week to get us on the schedule for a leaking washer. National was able to get us in the next day. Felix was on time, professional, and did a thorough job. He told me that the door gasket was leaking due to being unseated and that he could fix it quickly and there as a good chance that it might not leak again, or that he could order a new gasket and come back in a week to install it and that would take much more time. I told him to go ahead and reseat the existing washer so that I could use the washer for the week while we waited for the new gasket. After he cleaned and repaired the gasket he said that it should work well and no need to order a new gasket unless it became a problem in the future. He also gave me tips to prevent the gasket from coming unseated again. I appreciated the honesty and knowledge. read more

We had a washer leaking water. We called National Appliance and the tech who came had limited knowledge of this specific issue and spent over half an hour removing parts to the point where the control panel blow out (when my wife called me to check what was happening he was dealing with electrical elements). He left the house with the control panel damaged and a bill of $205 for his visit. The next day we got a message that this panel needed to be replaced at a cost of $407 yet not resolving the leak issue. The panel was operating when he start working on it but blown out when he left. I called the office but only got VM. We ordered a new $960 washer while spending $612 would not give us the warranty that the unit would be repair. We did use in the past National Appliance Service but after this experience we will definitely not get their service again. read more

Needed a part for our water heater that decided to break down on a Saturday morning. Their Yelp listing said they were open today (9am-1pm), we called to make sure. No answer and voicemail box was full, so we called again, pressed "0" and was connected to an answering service. They had no informtion nor a way to contact someone. All they said is they would submit a message with no guarantee someone would get back to us. So with that, we thought, ok let's drive by and take a chance as we needed to fix this issue. I am extremely disappointed with my experience. I explained to the person on the phone that my washing machine was not working and was older, and I was debating whether to have it repaired or just buy a new machine. I also mentioned the machine was not the best. She convinced me that older machines were better and they just don't make them like they used to and recommended I opt for a repair call which I did. After the 20 minute visit and $230 later, I learned that the part I need is no longer made. After doing research, I discovered that my Kenmore washer is pretty much obsolete due to the fact that Sears is no longer in business which I would assume an appliance repair company would know. This was incredibly disappointing because if I would have known, I would have applied the $230 to a new washer which was my biggest question when I called (knowing washers are relatively inexpensive). Scheduled a refrigerator repair appointment by phone, the woman I spoke with said she could have a technician at my home between 1-4 PM same day. Great! No more frozen salad greens! I get home around noon, and wait. 4:30 rolls around, no repairman has shown up, no one has called to say they're running late or need to reschedule, and only a virtual answering service is picking up the phone. Great response time and service. Our refrigerator broke while we were on vacation. A National Appliance repairperson arrived within a couple of hours of our service request. I waited a few weeks to write this review to give the owner time to respond, and since he did not I have to share this extremely negative experience. This January my range's ignitors stopped working so I called them. They came by, diagnosed a need to replace the ignition module which they did. It didn't work every time, but the technician said it would be fine and left. After a month in which it got worse and eventually did not work at all, I called them back and specifically requested they replace the ignitor part, ideally with a more reliable one. Oddly, the head of the part's department called me back (really he did) and told me it was not the part that was wrong, which I challenged based on my experience. Anyway I waited for the technician to come by and when he did all he could do was adjust things, it was still the same as before. I was fed up and called A Plus Appliance Repair San Rafael, they came the next day, installed a new part and things have been working perfectly ever since (highly recommend them by the way and posting there next). Here's where I get to my super negative review: I called and asked to talk to the owner, shared my story, and requested a refund for the faulty part. He said he'd talk to his team and let me know. This is a scam business. Read the other reviews and sort "lowest rated" to see all the negative posts which I align with. They charged $175 fee for 15 minute initial visit, then they overcharged an additional costs for a 20 min refrigerator repair at $150 and for a part that costs $49 online brand new (but the service order says it cost $149 ($100 upcharge!!) + tax and + shipping. When I called customer service to complain about the other charges and request a fair amount, they were dismissive and condescending. I would definitely not recommend this company to anyone. read more

This company is literally a scam. DO NOT USE THEM. They came by, charged $235 for two devices, installed non-code dryer vent (ribbed, and too thin), left completely off the wall, and to the left of where it used to be. Left the trash (evidence) of the historical exhaust that was to code. On the second device, they took off the cover that was "semi working", called back with a ridiculous quote to replace the detergent holder, we said we will just use it as-is, and now it's more broken (completely off). So, yeah, if we had completed all the services and let them charge us for all the time, it would have been usurious. They don't know what they are doing basically, and are super casual about costs, timing (was late for every appointment - apparently because they won't hire enough people so everyone's always angry with the poor repair guy. read more

After a very long discussion he told me the door could not be fixed and I'd have to order a new one. A few days later I got a $200+ bill for a service call. Really? Highly recommend National Appliance! A few years back they managed to find some really hard to find drawers for my older refrigerator! Just recently, that same fridge starting making some very loud and strange grinding noises and not keeping foods cold. The tech that came over gave us his best assessment and told us they would order a part that was the likely culprit. Again, with this older refrigerator (almost 20 years), the part was impossible to find. Alberto gave us a few suggestions of things we should try before we gave up on the fridge. Simple things, like turn off the fridge, let it all defrost for a few days, and then turn it on and see what happens. Crossing my fingers, but all seems back to normal (quiet and cold) after just a few days! I'm a client of National Appliance for life for anything that goes wrong with any of our appliances! Came to fix my dishwasher. Said it needed a $20 part plus the visit would be $260 altogether but the repair man broke another part during his visit. National charges $175 for a service call. When I made the appointment I told them exactly what was going on with the microwave. When the service tech showed up, he asked me what was wrong with the microwave and I told him exactly what I told the person who made the appointment. The tech knew immediately what was wrong. He said he's seen it several times before. His visit cost $175. Really? If I would have spoken to the tech before he showed up he could have just ordered the part before he showed up. My wife took off work to be home for the 11-1 appointment window. After having to call several times after 1 o'clock we were promised this and that by their office and we didn't once receive a call from the tech until after 6pm when he claimed he was on the way. The fix was for a clothes dryer and it was a necessary immediate fix as our family of five does ALOT of laundry. The tech showed up but only after we insisted that he work the overtime to get it done rather than try to reschedule for another day. 4 days without this much needed appliance was already too long! The tech was very polite and did his job well. I know the scheduling was not his fault but his communication was horrible and that could easily be remedied. How hard is it to make a phone call? He also left a huge mess....why not clean up after yourself or wear shoe covers? In the end they got the job done but it cost us over $500 in lost wages and that didn't seem to matter to them. I'd go elsewhere for service needs if possible. Unfortunately our landlords property manager likes these guys (cheaper than the competition?) and we are at the mercy of who they contract for repairs. read more

My mom's Kenmore washing machine had been acting up. Stopping mid-cycle. Cold water was not working. Decided to call national Appliance. Alberto was great working with. He recommended sending Felix who was awesome. No nonsense no puttering around. Fixed it and now the machine is working great. I would never use this company again and would give it a negative 5 rating. I was not told when I scheduled the appointment that the fee to come out would be $175.00. The tech spent no more that 15 minutes. He pressed a few buttons on the control pad. I have a Bosch electric dryer and contacted Bosch for an authorized factory repair company. My dryer was not producing any heat. The tech came out on March 23, 2020. He entered my home without a facial mask or gloves. We are in a mandatory shelter in place and I assumed any technician that Bosch would recommend would be using a mask and gloves. He arrived in a subcompact car. He said I needed to replace my main board and touch pad. He pressed a few buttons on the control and said he could not determine why it was not heating and I would have to replace the main board and touch pad before he could determine if any additional parts would be needed. He was not in my home for more than 15 minutes. I was charged $175.00. When they called the following day to give quote for parts I told their rep I thought the $175.00 fee was excessive. The rep said the tech listed on the invoice that he was at my home for 30 minutes. This was absolutely incorrect. read more

Well, they *used* to be good, and I used them for many repairs over the years. My last experience with them was the absolute pits, though - and from seeing the other reviews, apparently this was not an isolated occurrence. I told them exactly what parts they needed to bring to replace the water filter in my refrigerator (I can't reach it), which I knew because I had to look it up when I tried to buy replacement filters and learned that the ones I need aren't made any more. Did they bring the adapter? Or the correct filters? Despite my specific request and their assurances that they would do so? Of course not. I'd also given them the make and specific model number of the unit so they could have looked it up themselves in advance if they didn't believe me; I may as well have just been talking into the wind. The ice maker wasn't working, either, and the technician had no idea what was wrong, let alone how to fix it. He was supposed to look into it and get back to me - and have someone else come back out to complete the service later - and they never did. When I called to get it taken care of, they had no idea what I was talking about, told me I'd have to pay another service charge if they sent someone else out even if that person couldn't figure out the problem either, and acted like they couldn't have cared less. Why on earth do they send someone out who has no idea what he's doing, and isn't even familiar with the make and model of the appliance a customer is calling about? More Than 10 Stars!!!! I have used this company for many years. They are always there to help in case of an emergency repair. My refrigerator stopped suddenly, so I called and a technician arrived a day later. Fernando apprised the situation, ordered parts right away, and came back 2 working days later to completely repair the appliance. My refrigerator is clean and like new.
