It feels like I was just here the other day but I think it's coming up 2 months since my prior visit. Yesterday was just wonderful, got to appreciate the outdoor seating since the weather was a perfect 73°. The hanging pansy basket was just stunning, looks like the award winning ones that are on sale at the west Allice farmers market. If that's the case I love that they're supporting local. And the whole block is in theme with the same color palette of hanging baskets!! I thought the next time I came would be to dive into one of their pies. Lo and behold I had to go with what I had last time, since it was so good! The apple danish. Chefs kiss! It hit the spot, and it's dangerous because you could be so full yet you just want...another. Additionally today I got the mocha scone, it sounded promising. It didn't mark anything special for me, but I'm glad I gave it a try. The icing tasted like as if a chocolate espresso bean took icing form, it was very visually appealing and was more on the coffee side for flavor. I felt like it wasn't dry, but it wasn't very moist? Can anything with raspberries be bad? In my book, almost never. That being said I also got the raspberry cheese danish, a classic, they're generous on the raspberry jam. The woman at the counter was personable which is always pleasant especially in a bakery, even when you're tired . Everybody walking through the neiborhood weather intentionally going, or just passing by seemed to stop in. They have a punch card for $5 off after the 10th visit. It can be punched at 3 different locations, a cheese shop and a meat shop! The cheese shop downtown has been on the go-2 list. I know I'll be back here, for one of the pies, for real this time. And for the cutest jar of sprinkles I've ever seen on a shelf. read more

Counter helper is only capable of doing one thing at a time, so she stands and watches the coffee drip instead of helping anyone else. Asked her to make sure that the Nanaimo bar had a full crust. She still gave me a piece with half a crust, so now I have a glob of buttercream instead of a dessert. Slow service with a scowl. Sunday Ham was delicious and so were all the delicious baked goods we took home with us.

We were across the street for lunch (Archie's Flat Top - separate review), and decided to stop over to check out the bakery. What a great treat, literally. This shop both bakery, cafe and coffee shop, all rolled into one. They have several large cases showing off all the different bakery items, breads, donuts, and more. They also carry a large selection of chocolates and confections. Many of the items are made fresh daily there, and the items that they source from other vendors (troubadour, stone creek, simmas, mollys) are clearly marked. They also have gluten free products too (some in a freezer case) Ended up getting a couple of pies to take home, one Door County Cherry and the other Apple. They serve a whole array of coffees and lattes (London Fog please), so I will be stopping back some morning to try one hot beverage and scone. Stay tuned.... read more

When I moved to West Alis, I was pleased to see there was a bakery just around the corner from where I live. The first time I visited I was unaware of their hours and went in around 45 minutes before closing. The woman who served me and my fiancé wasn't rude, but not exactly happy we were in there. We both ordered coffee and a cheese pocket, which were both incredible and delicious. The second occasion we had a lovely woman working behind the counter who made small talk with us and offered us ideas on things to order. And just recently we went in again today and to my dismay the woman working behind the counter was not friendly at all. We ordered coffee and a pastry. And upon receiving my coffee, I decided I wanted another pastry that was quick to grab. I mentioned it, and she rudely told me the total and tossed my pastry up on top of the showing case. This place is so cute. It is a shame that the employees do not feel the same sense of happiness that the shop brings everybody else. I will keep going her just for the quality of goods...NOT the quality of service. read more

We decided to pick up ham & rolls on 11/2. The ham was so unbelievably salty and fatty I ended up throwing it out the day after. Only 1 sandwich eaten. Normally this would be gone by kickoff. I wanted to place a pie order for my birthday and went with the peanut butter and jelly pie. It was absolutely delicious! Tasted just like the real thing. It had peanut butter cream filling and layers of jelly. Also, while I was ordering I got a sausage and gravy pasty for breakfast and it was AMAZING! The croissant was so flaky and delicious! My boyfriend ordered a cinnamon roll and it was one of the best cinnamon rolls I've ever had, and I am usually not a big fan of them. Yikes this place is cute but I just had the worst customer service experience ever! I stopped in to pick up an order I had placed online and no one was at the front desk - I waited a minute or so but had to get going, so poked my head in a door off to the side and saw someone said "hi" and was greeted honestly with the most irritated look. I said I was there to pick up an order, she muttered "name?" and then grabbed my bag for me. Never gave any kind of greeting or apology for having me have to wait and seek out service. The Bake Sale should be on your places to check out if you're ever in West Allis. They had an overwhelming amount of choices!! I truly wanted to try about 25 different things. Sounds like I gotta go back, right? Mine and David's favorite was the French silk pie. That was fantastic and I loved the crust. My second favorite was the cinnamon roll. It was a little dry but the amount of frosting they put on made up for it! I look forward to heating it up tomorrow then I bet it will be awesome. A little disappointed in the peanut butter cup brownie. There was no peanut butter flavor besides the few pieces of chopped up peanut butter cups. I see potential in the brownie but probably wouldn't get that flavor again. The raspberry and Nutella filled croissant dipped in chocolate was good, but also a little dry. Although that may be common with croissants? I'm no expert when it comes to croissants so maybe that's suppose to be. Overall we had a fun time trying The Bake Sale out. I entered having no idea what to expect. I craved sweet and savory. Upon perusing the bakery case, I reduced my choices to two pastries: a Cheese Pocket and/or a Cheese Danish. I asked the employee which she would recommend. She said, "the Cheese Pocket." It was absolutely anazing! Have been there 2x before, bakery ok, went there on a wednesday morning . Clerk was doing something on her ipad. Seemed like she was giving me a BREAK to wait on me . Was looking for a simple but good chocolate croissant, not here. Baker said they don't make them. I did try their coconut chocolate hay stacks which were great but they were out on my next visit . Traveled through Milwaukee and wanted to stop here. Service was fine. I ordered a few things, carrot cake, blueberry lemon scone, and a cream cheese danish. It was $15 for all three things... and they all missed the mark. The carrot cake was extremely dry and didn't have cream cheese frosting, just normal frosting. The scone was terrible, it just tasted like butter and salt. No blueberry or lemon flavor at all. The danish was super dry. I definitely wouldn't be back again. read more

Cool little bakery and local goods shop. There's a case with pies, cakes, and all kinds of other bakery. I chose a slice of carrot cake, as I was still full from a burger across the street. My carrot cake was really good! They had shelves of local snacks and a couple coolers with other items. Everything appeared to be from local vendors. My wife ordered an ice coffee, which was made while we looked around. Kids got puppy chow and gummy worms. This place is mixed into a 2-3 block section of cool little businesses in West Allis. I had the most amazing almond cookie of my life here yesterday. The inside was perfectly gooey and sweet. A lot of places miss the mark on the sweet almond flavor, but not this bakery! My fiancé and I also got a brown butter oatmeal cream pie and snickerdoodle cookie, and both were incredible! Oh, and they have treats for doggies too! I picked up the most amazing smoked ham at the BakeSale and I highly recommend it. Much to my surprise they ran out of biscuits. But guess what, when I bit into the 'cookies' belonging to this six cookie 'cookie platter', I found those missing biscuits alright. These Packer cookies are literally baking soda biscuits. Currently, easily the best and most innovative bakery in Milwaukee County precisely because they're not responding to the siren calls of cheap edible oils like soybean, canola, palm, coconut or cottonseed. This comes at a price I am willing to pay. They are not perfect, but they're trying much harder than their competitors. Milwaukee generically has a good bread scene and they remain competitive with a simple selection of breads and rolls. Dutch crust anyone? The pulled hot ham on Sunday is an inspired idea which needs to be moister; a little brown sugar, butter and water worked perfectly to rehydrate the meat. And who offers house-made peach mustard? Which works better as a ketchup replacement than as mustard. Pasties, a Cornish miners filled meat pastry which have mostly disappeared from the American diet, are available here. Cinnamon rolls could use more cinnamon. Their version of the Hostess fruit pie is the best I've ever had; especially the Door County cherry. As mentioned by others, the filled almond cookie is epic. The brown sugar buttercream oatmeal cream pie, a variant of the whoopee pie, is prize winning. They do mini-pie's, cookies, donuts, croissants, et al. To their very strong credit, they're offering different bakery items to a customer base who has been conditioned over decades to expect a limited menu of very dull offerings. This is what Milwaukee used to be like for your grandparents. A disaster for those on a diet. As it should be. Fancy coffee and a robust selection of other local food purveyors round out this unassuming storefront in an unassuming neighborhood. I'd kill to have access to something this good in Los Angeles. Unlike nearby Grebe's (AKA Grubby's), they're not allergic to butter and eggs or cleaning their equipment. Pretty much the antithesis of the modern industrial or foodstore bakery. A wonderful addition to what has become a mini food makers district. I'd like later hours, but I can cope for bakery this good. My cardiologist would be horrified. What happens in 'Stallica stays in 'Stallica. You want to be a foodie? This is a fine place to start. I'm a very seasoned food traveler and this place is globally competitive for what they do right. The much lower overhead of this unhip 'hood is likely what makes this possible. Indulge in this joint as much as possible before the spreadsheet jockeys ruin it and let your tastebuds explore. They tasted very good, BUT the crusts on both pies were so hard that the pies were almost impossible to cut. The bottom crusts were (hope I'm not exaggerating) tough as leather.
