I chose this rental car service from Priceline it was a weekend rental. I chose the airport location for convenience. Easy to find the entrance to the rental and the counter. The young man at the counter was respectful and friendly. Service was fast. I paid online thru Priceline so all I had to put was a $100 security with a major credit card. I did have my own insurance so I was able to opt out of theirs. Mileage was unlimited. One thing I did like which I have never experienced with another rental company was that they allow you to pick your own in my case SUV from a row available which I must honestly will say was tough to chose. Two things I did not like was no XM radio nor do they have the option of charging a daily fee for unlimited tolls. I was going to NYC so not having the option meant they would bill me for all tolls I went thru. They do have the option of paying a gas charge of $2.95 a gallon if you don't want to fill the car on return. The return process was also smooth. I would like to acknowledge Jack and Darrian one took care of me at the check in counter and the other helped me when I was looking at the vehicle options to choose. I would rent from them again if it's a local rental that has no tolls. read more

Very disappointing rental. Pay close attention to the charges. They definitely try to nickel and dime you. It seemed as if I was charged for the previous rentals charges. I didn't complain. When I received a survey I responded with low scores and a short message. I was then contacted by the manager. Their Tri-Branded Area Rental Manager reached out to me and addressed me by the wrong name in my email. (My email is my name) after I called her out on she addressed me by the wrong name I never heard back. Great company but this location is lacking and it starts with the manager. Again pay attention to your rental when checking out. read more

I would leave a 0 if I could. I rented a car from them . When I returned the car. It was inspected by an employee inside and out. I was told everything is good. Which it was returned with not even the slightest of damage or problem. I was told the printer wasn't working. I ask for an e mail copy didn't get one. 3 months later I got a bill for $5,700 of damage i did to their car. There was absolutely NO damage . I called and tried to fight it. Stay away. My experience with this branch of National Car Rental was exceptional. Car was clean and when my flight was moved to Boston by the airline the local branch, not National's customer service line helped arrange changing the drop off point and keeping my original rate. The rental car facility is a long walk from the terminal and the fees they charge at this location are among the highest I've ever seen. Those are both out of National's control but worth knowing if you're going to rent at PVD. The cars on the Executive and Emerald Aisles are pretty standard for what you'd find at any National airport location with nothing particularly extraordinary. read more

RAVEN--Price gouging occurs when a seller increases the prices of goods, services or commodities to a level much higher than is considered reasonable or fair. My husband booked a car for us to have when we returned to Rhode Island, after a recent move to Florida. He was there for work and my son was graduating 8th grade. My husband got a cough, so thought it was best to stay home. We called National and they said no problem, I would have to go to the desk and put it in my name. I should add that my husband has rented so many times, several times a month for decades. The airport was empty, no one in line at the National stand. Raven was at the desk, and said that she would have to create a new reservation. That's when the transaction went downhill. This woman was cold, rude... she continued to tell me it was a business account and not mine. My husband was going to be there doing business related things....he got sick.... She proceeded to tell me that instead of the price that we were going to be charged, it was now going to be over 200 dollars a day and it would be a Jetta instead of the executive level cars that my husband typically chooses from... I said"you are price gouging me" and that's when Raven said "I'm not going to rent a car to you, you are hostile" So Raven, you did exactly what the above definition states....Believe me, I was numb not hostile- I am scared of flying, my husband could not come, and I was terrified that I was not going to have a car. If Raven had shown an ounce of empathy or care, it would have made a world of difference. So I groveled your Raven, got the car, and returned it the next day, paying 237 dollars for less than 24 hours. I rented the same exact car at Avis for 50 dollars a day, for the rest of the week. Nightmare experience- even my son who is 14 was upset, and he continues to talk about how Raven glared at me snd said "you are hostile" No Raven, you need to be more human.... read more

I rented from them for the first time this in November 2008 and will again. The lady at the counter in the airport was very friendly. The shuttle came quick to take us close by to p/u a car. The cars were clean...the one I choose was clean and did not have an odor like some do of smoke or whatever...so I was happy. The gas was all the way full!! Which I have had a problem with other companies trying to fill it under full and rent. The return went smoothly and quickly. The shuttle back to the airport was fast and had a friendly driver. read more

Outstanding service, especially as we arrived after midnight. Well marked, well lit, but a hike from the terminal. The new walkway is enclosed and has moving sidewalks. TF Green also has a couple cats with golf carts trolling for passangers who need assistance as well. Walkway and rental counters on 3rd floor, cars on level 5 of the garage. I'm very torn about about this, as part of this wasn't this locations issue. But when I've been renting from National for a long time. I called and reserved a car for seven passengers, and when I arrived onsite, they did not have one available. They said that they were over sold on that size car and couldn't give me one of the many that were on the lot. I went into the counter to talk to the lady there, and she was the most angry and rude person I've ever spoken to. I had three adults and four children and asked her if she could help. Her response, "We don't have a car, I can't help you." When I explained that I understood, but I was willing to find a way to get to another location if there was a car available there, she yelled at me, "There are NO other locations and they can't help me either." So, I asked her for a phone number and she said, "LOOK IT UP ON YOUR APP." I explained that I was having trouble getting into the app on the phone because of coverage and she REFUSED to provide any numbers, even though I was PLEADING for just a little help. She then looked over to another company and asked if they had a minivan or large SUV and they said they did, so she so rudely said, "GO THERE, HE can help you." When I asked if I could use my days there, she said, "Of course not, what kind of a stupid question is that?" So, I tried to explain that I had already budgeted the vacation based on my free days with National and asked why she's punishing me for their mistake, and she just said, "I can't help you, figure it out." I went back up to my isle and another gentleman apologised for her attitude and knew exactly who I was talking about, as it seems that's a common complaint about this employee. After about three hours, he was able to find another car that had a third row, but was FAR from the size needed, we were able to find a car. So, I want to commend the people in the lot, but I would suggest NOT going to the counter at any cost at PVD for ANY reason. read more

Unimpressed. Check-in (I'm not an Emerald member) took close to15 minutes - and that was for each customer in line, meaning I waited close to 40 minutes to be checked in, with only two people in front of me when I got in line. I was asked, "how will you be covering the car?" and it took several minutes to figure out that the agent was trying to sell me the insurance. When I informed her that my Amex Platinum would more than cover any damages, she tried to argue with me and tell me that it wouldn't. Had to initial in a dozen (literally, 12) places to decline all the various add-ons - ridiculous, even if I'm not a "member of the club." If I didn't pay for it, then I didn't buy it, right? I signed more pieces of paper than when I *bought* my last car. And there was of course the obligatory attempt at an upsell to a larger car, despite the fact that I'd prepaid for the class I'd reserved. The car itself was clean, new, low-mileage, and well-maintained - as I would expect from a tier-1 rental firm. Although billed as "at the terminal," National is in fact a short shuttle ride away - on airport property, perhaps, but not a simple walk into the garage. The shuttle arrived quickly and the driver was courteous and helpful - but my experience at the rental counter has soured me on this brand. Perhaps my rental counter experience is typical for rental companies; I typically rent from a company that I *am* a club member of, so perhaps I bypass this rigamarole. But the experience is definitely not conducive to making me want to rent from National again. read more

My reason for 2 stars and problem with National is that they don't accept debit cards. My card is a nationally known MasterCard which has a credit option and the person at checkout almost turned me back and they made a big fuss about it. I been an Emerald Isle member for years. Whats this scam about? Beware this does not happen to you or you could be stuck without a car. read more

Very very rude employees in the lot, weren't very helpful at all. Executive member, one of the benefits that Executive members get is GUARANTEED UPGRADES - you're always guaranteed a free upgrade. But they tell me it doesn't work for them. That I have to pay, but when I tell them, I can pay for it, they still tell me they can't give it to me. It's on the website policy, everything is listed there. I travel every 2 or 3 weekend every month and I always rent for that long and this is the second time I've gone here before and they gave me a big issue about it. It's never an easy conversation with them. And the managers are not very helpful at all too. Very rude and don't have respect for their customers. read more

Not sure if this review will help anyone but I feel I have to pass on my experience. I have been an Emerald elite member for several years. I recently rented a car out of Boston on December 18th...a prepaid $1500 SUV. Upon arrival there was not one car on the lot with about 40people waiting for a car. To help National and save ourselves from waiting several hours we were willing to take a 15 passenger utility vehicle with the promise of switching cars after the bust holiday. For 21/2 days after Christmas we waited for a call from National on the availability of aSUV. We called several times every day. Finally on the afternoon of the 28th we were told there was a car at TF Green airport. I left my family, drove an hour to airport. When I pulled in I was informed they knew nothing about this. When they looked in my records they could see that I was waiting for a swap but the agent never put in the reservation. I counted 8 SUVs on the lot but was told they were for others. I was actually told the other people were more important than me and I wasn't their customer. While standing outside waiting to be helped for two hours (or rather ignored for two hours) I called the 800 number again. At one point I was told to wait there until I heard from "the management" department. When asked how long this would take, the agent said 5 minutes to 2 DAYS. I was suddenly disconnected on another call. Lied to by the resolution office...they were going to contact the office directly with options for a resolution. When asked what the options were, the manger at TF Green said there were no options...just that I needed a car. Every agent, manager, and employee lied starting at in Boston and ending in Providence.. That were rude,aggressive, and uncaring read more

I had a great experience renting from National Car Rental. The process was quick and convenient and they were very nice in Providence RI. I am now part of the Emerald club, their rewards system allowing for quicker rentals etc. It is nice to interact with nice, knowledgeable people when you are traveling in an unfamiliar area. read more

Beware. Upon returning a car here in March, I advised the attendant about an incident with the front bumper, into which someone had backed (while I sat parallel-parked). Upon receiving a bill for $1,680 -- that's some bumper! -- I learned they had added in a roof/door frame issue, neither detected nor discussed at the time of return. Nothing with the roof/door frame happened in the waking hours of the two days I had the car, so I'm left to weigh the slight chance that something did happen overnight in a secured hotel garage, versus the overriding plausibility of scam here. Either way, this operation is dishonest. It's always confusing when you use a national company for many years and love that company, then confront something like this. read more

I travel to Providence about 10 times a year. National rental car at the airport is excellent. Never had any issues. Always someone there to help guide me to a car at pickup. As a frequent traveler, I love fast service and smiling, helpful staff. This is what you receive at the National Car Rental location at the Providence airport. There is always a great selection to choose from and the staff greets you when you arrive, assist with bags, if needed and makes certain that you are happy with the car before you drive out. The exit process is swift and check in is very fast, efficient and the staff are so cheerful. I would highly recommend National at this location. read more

Must have got them on a bad day, the staff was friendly but the cars had not been checked back in or something like that. I tried to use the app and scan the car, but the clerk said she didn't know how to use it, so she tried to check me out the normal way, but the car I was in wasn't put in the system as being returned. She wrote down the info and said she would enter it later, I was given no contract, I asked didn't i need that as like the registration in case I was pulled over? She said no we will email you the contract, that never happened.. I'm sure it was just a bad day for them and I would return without hesitation.. read more

Well since you asked for a review here it is, I am a frequent traveler and have used national for a long time. Over the last several years the one thing that I notice and have often pointed out when returning cars is the cleanliness of the interior , I have often found after bottle food remains from the previous rental. But the thing that bothers me the most is the condition of the inside of the windshield, it is seldom cleaned properly or at all causing disturbance when the sun hits the windshield you often see the marks of the GPS as well as streaks where an attempted cleaning was performed. Because the cars are not old they usually perform well mechanically but the cleanliness is an issue every where I rent. read more

I travel all over the country and use National exclusively. However, the PVD location has to be the best of best. Their customer service is exceptional and always go the extra mile upon my arrival without request on my part. On my last trip out I had an unfortunate incident in which I had left my iPad under the seat of my rental car. You can imagine my reaction when I realized this after I had boarded my plane that morning. I quickly contacted their local counter AND someone actually answered...shocking in itself! This particular representative(Barbara) calmed me down and assured me she would personally search for my lost item. Upon my arrival at my home destination I had heard back that my iPad was safe and sound with my name on it for my retrieval. What a relief! I had my item 2 days later without a scratch or dent....) Honestly the last most recent National rental experience went OK, much better than the 3 times before which was a 1st this year. I am limited to the amount of words in this message so I will do my best to explain the 2nd terrible experience I had which was the worst a few months ago with National as follows. Here are some of the examples as to what went wrong. The second horrible experience - Shortly after we call corporate & ask the question again about returning the National Car to Enterprise & they say yes no issues returning the car to Enterprise (which was the big issue a month earlier but I do not have room for the words to explain) After being reassured that we would not have any issues on the way back from our long trip & a 8 hour drive because we have at this point no trust in National, Enterprise, or Alamo we call to verify just to make sure that we can drop the car off at Enterprise Saturday morning. We were transferred literally 6 times & 4 people tell us no issues dropping off the car & 2 people telling us there is an issue one of which tells us we can but it can cost up to $3000.00 to do so & could not calculate even an estimated cost over the phone. After this call & talking to another now Enterprise Corporate individual she proceeds to tell us that we cant return the car here, then that we can drop the car off & that she gave me her word as well as put notes in the system that the local store would be able to see these notes (another lie) we would not have any issues dropping the car off at Enterprise. Now at this point we also filled her in on the issue we had with the car. The back wheel loosened up on out trip! Luckily we had mechanical ability enough to catch it & tighten the lug nuts. Now we are scared at this point & being lied to again. We take the car on a Saturday morning early to the local Enterprise location. It felt as if we were mistreated because I was not only asked to wait & several males were taken care of who showed up after myself 1st or maybe even the managers or workers friends not sure either way but when I finally was given the opportunity to calmly explain the situation to the manager he completely disregarded the issue with the wheel and proceeded to tell me he could not take the car in with out me signing off on a small chip as my responsibility from a stone I am guessing near the wheel that about fell off & was very unpleasant with his tone. I have excellent people skills & have training to prove this. I have witnesses & kept track of most of these calls & situations. I never start problems or speak my mind about issues especially when they are made right as they should be. I left the location with the car drove all the way back home. Now I have to find another person to waste their day and gas to take me to the airport drop off at National for now a second time costing more gas, more time, etc was extremely upsetting. Another Saturday ruined just like the first experience. I am a huge customer service oriented person. I used to love Enterprise and National. I can not believe how terrible they have both gotten at this point. No follow up or anything even with all my calls on file to both corporate offices. The manager of the store who said the chip near the fender was a big issue really did not want to deal with the car return. I was very nice and pleasant even after all of this and explaining what happened. Again no follow up, no email, no offer to make any of this right, no consistency in example the National lady who received the car said the chip was of no concern it was so small and they happen all the time. Just wish it would have not ever came to this and that someone would do something to make up at least some of the gas and time for the people who sacrificed their days to go to the airport with me because of National & Enterprises mistakes & inconsistency. I truly am thankful that you are finally asking how this experience went. I am very surprised it took this long with all the calls made to Enterprise and National but I do appreciate the follow up. read more
