Took my kids snowboarding for the first time this year and rented our equipment here twice. Unfortunately, second rental didn't turn out well for my oldest son. He couldn't make it for the fitting but the store said they have his info. from the previous rental so I just provided with the receipt. They gave him the same size but different boots. The first hour it started bothering his ankles and sat out and didn't want to go back. It turned out, the binding strap was worn out and would not stay tight. Binding strap would loosen with any pressure from the boot. That's a major safety issue. So I ended up renting again at the resort. I told the store about it when I returned them but they didn't do anything about it. Lessons learned from my end. I thought the store would comp me for it since the boots weren't used but I got nothing. read more

Overpriced and n customer service. I had a problem with my spa and called them for assistance. They came out twice and charged me both times for the visit and told me there was nothing wrong with the Spa. When I finally was able to verify the leak and show them evidence of the leak, they tried to blame ion my Pool company. Then They offered to bring the spa into their location for a total of $750 before they even touched it, with more charges necessary to fix the actual leak. only when I threatened to sue them did they agree to take off the first two visits where they told me there was nothing wrong with the spa. Good to see them rebound after Covid as it's a real friendly place. We use them for renting Skis and finally decided to buy a pair to own with boots and bindings. Jose helped me out with selection and it was a fairly smooth experience. The gear and clothing section has good brand name items, however, be prepared to spend some real dough. Rental area was congested but the have expanded this year and the customer flow is much improved. I purchased a pool cleaner online from Pelican Shops (PS). It was the MAYTRONICS DOLPHIN M400 ROBOTIC POOL CLEANER. I liked reading all of their information on comparing pool cleaners on YouTube. They were also very informative when I called them as well. While the pool cleaner is heavy as hell when removing it from the pool, it does a great job. I would recommend this pool cleaner to others as long as you can bend down and pull it out of the water. I'm guessing it would weigh around 40 pounds when pulling it out at first (maybe a little less). I purchased it from PS because they were the most competitive and because of the warranty program they offer. I love the cleaner and I have had no problems with it, so I cannot tell you how good PS is to work with if you have an issue. Some people have complained about their restocking fees. So just be aware that you might have a different experience if you try to return it. However, my experience with both the pool cleaner and Pelican Shops has been excellent. A++ read more

Bought a Cal spa from them 2 years ago. Delivery went well. Had a leak after less than 1 year at the filter housing so still warrantied. It was repaired with epoxy. Now a year later it is leaking at the filter housing again and of course now they want to charge to fix it again. If they had replaced it the first time I wouldn't have another leak. I LOVE this store. More specifically, the people that work here. I've never met a more knowledgeable group of people. My friends and I have been to many different stores where the workers just try to sell you the most expensive items. Here, the employees take their time to measure you, get to know you as a (in our case) skier/snowboarder, figure out the way you ride, what you're looking for, and what will work best for you. My boyfriend and his family have been coming to Jose for years and he's never steered him wrong. Jose is so personable and educated about all of the products and equipment in the store. When I contacted the store the next day, I was told the technician "didn't want to work on my spa". What kind of BS is this? An employee is paid to do a job, and does not have the authority to decide if he want to do it. Manager agreed that he would be paid for the job and the travel time. Unfortunately, the manager didn't have the strength to enforce it. I've dealt with another Pelican store in the past with no problems. This store must be staffed with prima donnas. Beware if you buy anything from them that might require service - apparently it's at the discretion of the employees. This store has a number of 5-star reviews from people who seem to like it ("purchased 2 large umbrellas") and a number of one star reviews - and now I know why. I literally hate writing bad reviews but my husband just came home so frustrated and angry at the poor service he just received. There was a tent sale and my husband proactively called to see if it was still going on and the woman said yes. My husband drove 20 minutes for them to say there was no point in my husband being there. Instead of doing anything to accommodate him and apologize for any miscommunication, my husband left frustrated with the lack of customer service. The install guys on my hot tub, very nice. Salesman was OK but he promised us a $500 store credit and then when we went to use it now they can't find any record of it. The service tech is very nice but it took 3 visits to close our hot tub for the winter b/c they had our tub listed as the wrong size (so couldn't do the service b/c he had wrong supplies), then didn't bring enough of the correct supplies, then, Finally, got the job done. I have been going to Pelican since I was about 10 years old back in the 80s. I love the fact that the place has been frozen in time. What I find concerning is the lack of engagement of the current employees. Most of them seem angry with a low morale. They ignore the customers, work at a slow pace and even seem indignant about doing tasks such as retrieving skis for pickup. While I patiently waited for my skis I noticed a sign saying to be nice to the employees that show up. Come on... That's a little overused and not an excuse for poor customer service. They seemed to be adequately staffed. I even overheard an employee state that he had to go to training for skis he will never sell. I suspect there is a lack of management structure. I doubt the employees are given any meaningful incentives or discipline when necessary. Pelican is located in a very affluent area and probably will be able to get away with their marginal operation. I am sad to say, that I won't be coming back. read more

The Whitehouse Station location gets a 0 star if I could. We went to purchase a hot tub. We spoke with an Andrew S. He claims he doesn't work on commission....haha. Good thing for him he doesn't. He quoted my wife and I a $4,900 price and the. Hit us with the $500 discount urgency. We left and told him we would reach out if we had questions. He warned us the $500 coupon ended at 5pm today. So after discussion and a visit to another business we went back to make the deal. Low and behold the hot tub 1 hour later was now $5499. I then asked if the $500 discount would bring it down to $4995? He said "NO". When I told him he quoted a price for $4900 an hour earlier. He said that was for a different hot tub. Outright liar. We never discussed another hot tub. He is lying so much that the story changes every hour. Scummy way to do business. We were respectful and thanked them and left. He knew he was lying because he couldn't even make eye contact. Also he was wearing his mask on his chin. So not only is he a liar he is also a careless/selfish person. I will pay friends not to buy their hot tubs from Pelican Whitehouse Station, NJ. Dead serious!! By the way Andrew S. it isn't about the money! It is about integrity and honesty. You lack both. Today was my first visit to what seemed like a wonderful pool store. Itt came highly recommend but I just did not find a reasonably priced lounge chair. It was ok and I understood but I did not feel the service was kind. The gentleman was quite abrupt and almost laughed at us because we miss understood the price. I am recovering from cancer so my eye sight sometimes is not the best. The point is no matter what I wanted to spend a dollar or thousands I should be treated with respect. Pelican in Whitehouse is one of the worst businesses I've ever had the displeasure of working with. While the salesman was knowledgeable and nice, everything after was downhill. From no one being available to help figure out the financing, to the crap attitude from the associate regarding all the things wrong with the spa that was delivered, to not being a priory whatsoever - I will never purchase from this store again and would send anyone else thinking of doing so to run in the opposite direction. The installers drilled the mechanics top into the panel in front of the electric so you now can't get to it and they broke it while attaching it when screwing it in. The spa has scratches and a huge bend/bow in it in one side and is filthy. The associate I did speak to told me there's probably not much they can do because the spas are handled by forklifts and scratches are bound to happen. When I'm spending almost $8000, I except you to deliver a clean, unmarked, spa and not drill into the electric panel cover nor break the piece your drilling into. Was told to email pictures which I did early this morning and asked for the Service Manager to call me back immediately. Waited til noon, called them only to be told he's aware but won't be back until this afternoon and will probably call me then. Awful service - take your business anywhere else but here!!! read more

Couldn't give less than one star, tried to get a hot tub and was dealing with the manager who told us if we went with one of two colors we would be able to get it by June 30th then was told July 20th then they end of July. August 1st after not hearing anything I went to the store only to have the manager continue to be rude and when I said I didn't like to have to stop in to find out what was going on with our order, that is when he told me that he didn't like me coming in either.
