OMG this place has amazing food. A work source and I met here for lunch today and we got the £20 two course option (pricey for lunch but you get what you pay for). I ordered the Jerusalem Artichoke, English Grains, Lincolnshire Poacher, Watercress (n) as a starter and the Slow Roast Cauliflower, Isle of Mull Cheddar, Braised Onions, Ricotta as a main. I also got the Charred January King Cabbage, Miso Butter for £4. The artichoke dish is small but incredibly rich and tasty. Seriously, mouth bursting with flavour delicious. The grains are just chewy enough and the cheese (poacher) melted just perfectly. The cauliflower is good accompaniment to the starter, toasted enough to have a rich flavout. The cabbage is huge as a side and takes quite a bit of slicing and dicing time but it's so rich with the miso butter I was overtly full at the end! No room for the dessert (and ant fudge creeps me out anyway). My lunch colleague had the portobello mushroom side and the venison and said he was quite pleased. The server kindly turned down the music upon my request for better conversation. He was also unobtrusive enough and easy to flag down. Yummy! Great lokal and seasonal food for reasonable prices. We had a table in the basement which was nicely arranged and decorated. We did not feel like we were sitting in a basement. The staff was very nice and had answers for all our questions. They also had great recommendations for dessert and even had us try the ants (yes, ants!!!!) British food at its best! Everything was cooked and seasoned to perfection! Started with the bread (topped with garlic butter or smth) and from the wasting menu (left overs from the a la carte menu) the labneh, blackberries dukkah, lovage oil and pea shoots! The bread was sooo good and complimentary so even better. My friend and I shared the starter of grouse, cobnut, hedgerow berries and salt baked beets. A must order! We each had a main of Hake and celeriac (last minutes addition from the chef) and the Ox cheeks. Both were very good and I usually dont like celeriac. And last but not least we shared the dessert of douglas fir and millet cake which is basically a disconstructed cheese cake. Loved it a must order too. I will definitely come back!!!! read more

The sun seems to finally have found its way to London, taking a stroll into Covent Garden one of the very best things to do! Wandering the cobbled streets is the best way to build up an appetite. Amazing dinner! We happened upon this gem of a restaurant as we were staying nearby. So glad we did! Definitely up and coming to stardom. Just opened in 2016, and doing amazing fresh, wild and whole foods in creative, beautiful and tasty ways. Went there on a relatively quiet mid-week evening for dinner. Took almost an hour for the kitchen to prepare our mains - and the restaurant was hardly busy. When our mains finally arrived, we asked the waitress if the kitchen could get our dessert ready because we were in a rush. Once we finished our mains, we waited another 5mn for the dessert. Still nothing. Finally had to leave the restaurant before having our desserts because we ran out of time. We asked for a refund from but we only got £8 back. Not sure if that was for the dessert itself (i doubt it as the 2 course menu is quite expensive) or the service. Anyway, we expected to get more back but didn't bother as we were late. All in all, wouldn't go back to this restaurant. Food is actually not that bad, but quite pricey and poor service. read more

Been waiting to try this place for a while, had cancelled a few previous reservations but finally decided to give it a try yesterday. The menu, which boasts ingredients (and wines) that are primarily locally sourced British (English), sounds fantastic, and raises ones expectations of a great meal to follow. Unfortunately, Native doesn't deliver on its promise or potential. To begin with, the service is flat - our server felt like a diner waitress who'd been displaced. She was abrupt and brusk, coupled with the terrible acoustics of the basement dining area, this doesn't make for a pleasant start. I enquired as to whether the venison was wild or farmed, she replied "it's wild, but contained"; clearly not understanding the difference between the two options. Next, one of the snacks (hog chicharrons) was unavailable, and when we tried to order another (cow curd), we were told to order bread with it as well (if this is required, why isn't it simply included?). So our original plan of three starting snacks was cut down to a single one, the cauliflower pakoras. They arrived, fried, but not warm - which perhaps was the intention. However, they have absolutely no seasoning, nor any salt (you cannot have something fried and savoury without salt!), and as a result were extremely bland and disappointing. Our next courses were the wood pigeon kebabs (which looked more like a taco upon arrival) and raw rainbow carrots and a blue cheese dip. The pigeon was good, but marred by large coriander seed pieces, which completely overtook your pallet when eaten. I can say the carrots and blue cheese were the best part of our entire dining experience, unfortunately neither of these items were cooked and the skills that brought them forth can't really be attributed to Native. Our main courses were the venison loin (farmed, or "wild by contained"), and celeriac with goats curd. Both were fine, but again seriously suffered a lack of seasoning and salt. We should also note that salt isn't provided at your table, so you'd likely have to request it. Overall a disappointing experience for a restaurant that had so much potential. Great ingredients, fresh and local, unfortunately not treated with the respect they deserve. Maybe Native had simply run out of salt on our unlucky Friday night visit. read more

It is a small restaurant with the kitchen located upstairs and the dining area downstairs which is accessed walking down a metal spiral staircases. Ladies, I don't recommend stiletto heels down these stairs. The Rabbit dumplings, smoked bacon dashi and pickled walnut (£8.50) - reminded me of Asia cuisine. I found the broth was on the salty side and it needed less salt. Otherwise this light dish made a nice first course. Pan Fried Hake, split Pea Dahl, Cauliflour Leaf Pakora (£13.50) - the combination of the hake with the split pea dahl and the cauliflour leaf pakora went well together. The Hake was a piece of beautifully cooked fish, with a cripsy skin and moist meat. The only thing that let the dish down that day was the seasoning of the Cauliflour leaf pakora. It was not mixed throughly, so one side tasted very salty. Apart from the seasoning being a let down that day, overall I thought the combination of the dishes at Native were interesting. With the two dishes I tasted I thought each component on the plate worked well together. read more

If you like spending £60 on portions so small that you have to get a sandwich after you leave, then this is the place for you. Felt utterly ripped off. There really is no excuse for charging so much for such tiny portions. Avoid like the plague. read more

It is difficult to share constructive feedback on Native as in short there is simply no justifiable reason they should be in business. The establishment is a joke. It feeds off cliche trends driven by people with little to no sense about food, service, or social experience. The physical restaurant is very small and almost all below ground. It is sparsely decorated though all seats have a perfect view of the toilet directly next to the main dinning area. The staff are all quite nice but after first sitting down we waited 30+ mins for water, 30+ more for bread and over an hour from then for starters after placing our order. Two+ hours in we had only had a very small portioned course which was perfectly nice but nothing very special and certainly nothing worth investing that amount of time. The food is filled with arrogance combining a multitude of ingredients / concepts which the waitstaff could not keep straight as they described on more than one occasion the same set of items across completely different plates as if to check if we were even paying attention. The main courses arrived 30 mins later and our sole was overcooked nearing cardboard consistency with an unpleasant fishy after-taste. We left after a 3+ hour meal all trying to understand what happened, searching our phones for something else open. If you must go to Native make sure you go with great friends to help get lost in conversation as you will certainly not be swept-away by the experience. read more

I chanced upon Native during a visit to Neals Yard and was prompted by the menu's promise of rural fare to have a meal. The service was excellent; the waitress was welcoming, informative and accommodating (I'm not a great cauliflower fan, so the veg was replaced without question). The food was real delight. I began with the duck egg which was cooked to perfection and followed that up with the fallow dear which was delicious. I had the rhubarb to finish which was, for me, a perfect meal.
