Native Texas Landscapes came to my rescue after receiving no help from numerous other "dead end streets" I had contacted regarding a logistics problem I had with mold/moisture build up due to water retention on the outside of my home. After retirement, I purchased a home only a few streets off the beach of El Jardin Del Mar and the Gulf. Water retention and flooding had been such a frequent irritation over the years that the house had been treated for termites TWICE, as learned during disclosure, even before I had purchased it! As soon as I called Native Texas Landscapes, Wes Hackney, paid me a visit and made a quick assessment of the problem. What he first noticed was, that I had a slight decline grade in my backyard, causing water to be trapped up against the concrete patio right outside the backdoor. When he showed me the decline he exclaimed: "The patio is acting like a dam since it was poured directly up against the backwall of the house." The diagnosis was as follows: 1. dig out the concrete against the wall of the house creating a "nonconcrete" section between the house and the remainder of the patio; lay decorative flagstones to highlight a short path to the rest of the patio. The flagstones were situated in such a way to enable drainage. 2. Create a French drain (dry moat) engineered to run the length of the backwall of the home, topped with gravel funneling water to a vacant gully outside of the fenced backyard area. 3. Outfit overhead gutters on the back eaves. These "commonsense" measures (which had been completely overlooked by every other company I'd called), only took his entire crew two full days to complete. Best of all, I have NEVER had water retention/flooding/or moisture build up in my house or yard since...and that INCLUDES HURRICANE HARVEY! Price was in line with the other 4 bids I had received. Wes, the owner came out to give me my bid and did a drawing with itemized price during that visit. No one else would give me itemized price list or drawing until they had the job. His ideas where unique and I knew immediately he was he man for the job. I couldn't be more happier. Wes and company designed and built our outdoor kitchen last spring so this spring we got a quote for more work with Native Texas Landscape. This spring they laid sod in our whole backyard, reconfigured and beautified our front beds (including transplanting a LOT of shrubs to the backyard), poured a walkway/driveway extension AND rocked in our fireplace. FEW that was a lot of work you guys! It all together only took the amazing crew 7 days. While we have had some difficulties with communication really what it comes down to is the guys doing the hard work. While they were grouting the fireplace rock we didn't like the color and they had no problem stopping and coming back the next day with what we wanted. I really hope that they take care of their people because they are good hard working folks. Since we moved into our home we have had a pool built and dealt with other construction/landscape companies. I have learned that it does take some patience on my part. If a construction crew or landscape crew around Houston tells you they can start the next day...that they aren't busy...it should be a red flag! It sometimes takes up to a month to begin projects. In most instances as long as I voice my opinion and concern they will work with me and do a good job. read more

Initially it was a good experience. The work was well done and generally everything was completed timely, June 2019. The problem comes a few months later, after a couple of heavy rains, our pop ups popped off. My wife contacted him at least three times and the first couple of times they were busy and the last excuse was they have trouble getting the part. Seems to me they could've ordered the parts when they were doing jobs. It's been over 6 months now and still no action. I reallly don't know what to do now except maybe pay someone else to fix it. They will install a nice looking system but if you have trouble with it later, don't expect them to come running. read more

I met with Wes and was given an estimate before spring break. I was satisfied and prepared to go ahead to have the work done. After seeing his plan for my landscaping and agreeing on the price, I was ready to move forward and hire him. He said he was going on vacation, and he will contact me the week after, 2 weeks passed. I texted and called him, no answer. He finally answered when I called from my office number, he promised he will review the estimate with my changes and get back to me the next day. I was patient as I liked his design ideas and I had time for my project to be done. I contact him again 2 weeks later, he apologized for the delay, and he sent his framing guy to give an accurate estimate to never ever heard from him again. Must be nice to ignore a $26 k hardscape job. He happily took payment for $300 to draw up a plan on our initial meeting but could not be bothered to do what he promised thereafter. I'm sure he does great work, I just never going to see it. read more

The San Augustine grass in my yard was dead. There was some dead Bermuda grass and a few weeds in the front. I was concerned about getting a violation letter from my HOA. Nothing much more than a live oak in the back. Wes Hackney came out and gave me a quote for installing a sprinkler system and sod and plants. I have a pool in the backyard. There was only grass and 1 live oak tree. Nothing that made me feel it was my little haven. Mr. Hackney's crews were fast and knowledgeable and hard working. They are amazing. It is so beautiful. No glitches. I cannot thank this company enough for transforming my yard into something beautiful. It makes my heart sing every time I look at the front and back. The overall job was very nice. However, their scheduling was terriable. we had to constantly run after them to come do the work. Finally when the work was complete they did not complete the stone work in the back so Wes agreed to take $400 off the total cost due to their error. Then he told me it would be a $3000.00 dollar minimum. He told me he would swing by later in the day....and of course I never heard from them again. POOR customer service. Poor workmanship and organization from these guys led me to write this, my first "bad" review. I contracted them to do a whole yard sprinkler system and some minor landscaping and was very disappointed. From poor scheduling and communication to not completing something as simple as filling in the low spots in the back yard, I do NOT recommend these guys. Oh, and one of the azaleas they planted died and they refuse to replace it because "oh it still might come back". I could go on but my advice is RUN, don't walk, to another landscaper! read more

After trying to contact other landscape companies this was the only one that returned my phone calls promptly and kept all of the appointments it scheduled. Two other places in the area never showed up after repeated calls. Native Texas did a tremendous job translating the look we wanted and executing it. The crew was fantastic and courteous. They have continued to follow up with us after the fact to make sure we don't want any adjustments and are happy with the results. We just moved into a home by a lake and contracted with Native Texas to extend our patio, add a firepit and build a pier on the lake. The business owner, Wes Hackney, provided us several design ideas when he came over to visit with us. After discussing what we were interested in doing and making a few minor design changes; he provided us with samples of stone for our selection. The workers were meticulous in cutting the travertine stone for the patio and walkways. The sprinklers were relocated to benefit the new flowerbeds and drippers were added to flower pots. The automated led lighting makes it beautiful day and night. And the quality of the electrical equipment was top notch, with plenty of room for future additions. We used Wes and Native Texas Landscape to landscape our front and back yards. They did a beautiful layout and the yard looked great. He guarantees the plants for 5 years. They also reworked an existing sprinkler system. That was a dismal failure. There was one the was spraying the house and then the covers for the valves don't fit so they fall off, there are dry spots on the lawn. We contacted Wes Hackney about these issues in April He came out and was surprised at the poor job they did on the sprinkler system and assured us he would fix it. He hasn't. It's July. They did a great job when we were paying them. Native Texas Landscape is not following through on their promises. I will not recommend them, nor will I use them again. When we get our sprinkler system fixed, I plan to send Wes Hackney the bill. Very untrustworthy. read more

This company is as good as it gets! Wes Hackney sat in the driveway for almost 2 hours designing the plans for the perfect front yard and by the time he left, I had a plan to move forward. When the crew arrived, they spent days working on the perfect job - from lighting, to planting, to hardscaping. Every time they left, the street and yard debris was cleaned up perfectly. They took their time relocating and testing sprinkler system redesign after the hardscape and landscaping was complete. The landscape ideas were absolutely perfect. This company gave our front yard curb appeal and I am most greatful that I found them! They even helped the entire cul-de-sac moving trash cans to the truck on trash day since there vehicles and trailer were blocking access on that day! Wonderful job and praises to your crew! They are close by, there is someone in the office to answer the phone and they were able to work within our budget on short notice during the Christmas Holiday. The owners and their crew are friendly and professional and worked diligently to fix our water drainage issues from previous landscaping projects and some neglect on our part. Wes came out one evening to meet with us, assess the problem and lay out an affordable plan, we were able to add in some colorful landscape too. One of the owners, usually Charlie, will be on site to oversee the project process, we were able to go off to work for the day with no worries.
