While working I stopped at Natty Flat's on the recommendation of a customer, and I gotta say it was definitely worth it. The brisket was tender, the beans had just the right amount if bacon, and the mashed potatoes were 10/10. My only gripe was the brisket was almost dry, but some BBQ sauce remedied that real quick. These rave reviews have to be fake or from employees and friends. This place is in the middle of nowhere, there was nobody there on a Sat. at lunch and the serving area looked like a small cafeteria set up with all of the meats in warming trays and nothing looked "fresh" at all. Everyone that knows good BBQ knows that high turnover is key because BBQ sitting around either gets dry or mushy or both. Prices are high because it appears most everyone uses restaurant.com coupons offering 50% off. We took one look at the really poor looking food and turned around and left. Do not plan a trip here. Never reviewed before. I only live two blocks away. Didn't seem quite fair, but who eats often? Neighbors. I even let them do Thanksgiving turkey and ham. Visitors from Cali and I were too sick to get it day before, so young son walked it home in a wagon He put both in frig. Thanksgiving came and went. Nobody got out of bed. I LOVE this place! The staff is always super friendly and the food is consistently delicious. It's my fav. BBQ spot within 50miles (easily better than the more expensive competitions in neighboring bigger towns). I particularly like their chopped beef sandwiches, twice baked potato side and beans but honestly anything you order here will be good. The mercantile and bakery next door is great too! My husband, daughter and I went today and I had the 2 meat plate with brisket, sausage, THEIR beans and mac and cheese! YALLLL it was so juicy and tender and everything had amazing flavor. The people that work there are so kind and helpful. They have a cute candy set up right when you walk in the door that has some fun old school candies. My daughter LOVED picking out her candy. Amazing food...great prices. The food is served in moderation which is a nice change for a bbq place. I had the chopped brisket sandwich with baked potato salad. While the chopped brisket was amazing, the baked potato salad stole the show. 24 hours later, I am still thinking about it. I mixed the regular sauce and hot bbq sauce together, and it made a great mixture. The unsweetened iced tea was brewed perfectly. I had peach cobbler for dessert. It was served at room temperature which I didn't care for, but they heated it up for me when I asked. Over all, I loved this place as much as I love Cooper 's in Llano. We went to this place after seeing good reviews and let me tell you, my husband was so upset because we saw them microwave our food. We spent about $50 for 4 of us and all our food got microwaved. The ribs weren't great at all. The seasoning however was but everything was dried out. Would not waste my time or money here ever again. Such a disappointment. read more

Decent barbecue here, but nothing to get overly excited about. I had a 2 meat combo plate with sliced brisket, pulled pork, red beans and their baked tater salad. The meats were very tasty with great smoke flavor, but both were on the dry side. They keep the red beans simple, which I like. The baked tater salad is a fat bomb, served warm and more like a deconstructed twice baked potato than anything else. I enjoyed the first few bites, but then the amount of fat in them became a little disgusting. The desserts are the real draw here, with terrific fried pies and a really good banana pudding. I may have gone with 2 stars for this place if I hadn't tried those. The place itself is wonderful, with a really fun Texas vibe. Got home and about a tablespoon of brisket and no bbq sauce. Just some butter and cheese. The brisket was dry. The one star was me being nice. If you really want some great bbq drive 25 miles down 281 to Stephenville to the Hard 8 BBQ restaurant. You can't miss it and the brisket is juicy and perfect. Great BBQ. We had the special which was a sausage sandwich with chips and drink for $7.95. Well worth the $. Sausage was hot and tender, not dried out or chewy like I've had many times elsewhere. We take a motorcycle trip every month or so looking for that special BBQ spot. Over the last 5 years, my riding buddy and I have visited easily over 200 BBQ joints in Texas. This time I took my wife along too! The 3 of us landed at Natty Flat Smokehouse which is by far the best we have ever had. The Brisket is tender, the Ribs have that smokey flavor, the sauce is as good as my homemade sauce. What took us by surprise was the Baked Potato Salad. Wow! We had the 2 meat combo with 2 sides, beans (they were awesome) and the Baked Potato Salad (to die for!). A large portion of Brisket and 3 good size Pork Ribs, with toast and the sides. For desert, Peach Cobbler, OMG! The portion that was served to us was a meal in and of itself! We waddled out the door with a goofy grin on our faces. We have found BBQ heaven. OMG they are stingy with their sauce. My family of 7 loves this place and stop by every time we pass by on our way back to Denton TX. With 4boys eating they get 2 sandwiches each. I stopped today and picked up fixings for 12 sandwiches to take home to my family. They gave me 8oz of sauce for 12 sandwiches. I asked for more and reluctantly was given 4 oz more. She said any more and she would have to charge me. Seriously???? When my family of 7 stops in to eat at their place my boys can almost finish the bottle of sauce on the table. The FOOD was good. The staff was friendly and I received my food quickly. That said, the serving sizes vs. the cost felt "skimpy" to me. For $16 with a soft drink... I felt like I would've gotten more smoked turkey if I had bought a cheaper sandwich, rather than the 'dinner plate.' That's really the only complaint. I have eatten here several times but each time is always as special as the first. The last time I had the chopped bbq sandwich meal which included a bag of chips and a drink. The bbq sandwich was so yummy for dessert I had peach cobbler ala mode, it was to die for. The food is prepared quickly while you wait. He dinning room is small but the interior is beautiful. He tables and chairs are from the woodshop they have out back and are beautifully crafted. After you eat your meal look at the gift shop next door its full of beautiful gifts and treasures to take home or to give to someone. Worth the drive to the Natty Flat smokehouse for sure. Here again, just around the corner and my lunch pit stop every now and then. I usually do the meats by the partial pound and have never been displeased from the brisket, sausage, turkey and bologna. The sides are quite good and the sandwiches are bountiful. The desserts are good and the bakery is right next door, so while your spouse maybe shopping next door at the furniture store, guys stop in and get an ice tea or Big Red, kick back and have some que while you're spouse depletes the furniture 401k finances.
